The situation you discribe is a rarity among rarities. If a Mastermind or Corruptor KBs my aggro away from RttC then I simply adjust and find the biggest pack to run towards. It's hardly crippling in anyway, whatsoever. I have never, NEVER died or even came to the brink of death from a mob being KBed away from my RttC.

In theory, your point holds true but in practical game play, from my experience, this type of situation is not something to hold has an argument against KB.
What I find more annoying on melee AT's and kins is scatter because they go every which way. I'm looking at you assault bot!

Knockback can be incredibly fun. Just ask my fire/nrg blaster when it punches something and it goes flying. It's entertaining - especially if you're waiting on a TF to start and you just start launching things that con gray.

Note: If it cons purple, make sure you launch it and run back to the group waiting. They'll thank you later.

While situational, with some +recharge, you can Power Surge available fairly often. Certainly not 100% of the time, but you don't need it 100% of the time, either, so that's a moot point. As long as it's there when needed, it's decidedly useful.
That's why I wouldn't compare the two powers. Now that I don't need Aid Self for my builds, I grabbed powersurge for my SS/Elec, but my Elec/Elec still doesn't have it, because it does just fine without it.

I still find the crash incredibly annoying, although I've gotten better at surviving during a crash while surrounded by many, many +3 bosses. It's my latest challenge for myself. The last one was seeing if I could consistently use aid self in the middle of fights surrounded by 16 enemies.

    edit:
However, I find tough necessary for my style of gameplay. For ordinary teams, it probably isn't necessary. However, getting your S/L resists up around 60% from 40% is a 50% increase in resistance, which isn't small potatoes. I notice when I don't have tough toggled on.

  4. This week (and it's just Tuesday!) I've teamed with two spiders that didn't have maneuvers. As a min-maxer it does make me bristle. But this point is very true. Actually, the one died on a MoITF run, and probably would have survived had he had another 15% defense (though it's always debatable). There were other reasons, the spawn directly on top of him, not exiting on time, etc. It still is annoying when you know they could be better.

    FireWyvern's reasons are absolutely true.

I carefully asked the two people I ran across. The first player had wanted a more offensive build and had sacrificed the power to pick up the patron AoEs. This made him more of a blaster than a tank/support toon. I can't fault a play style decision, even if stacking TT:M drastically improves a team.

Now the second player was very much in the first category. He had it once, but complained that every time he got hit, TT:M detoggled. My mind boggled. I didn't press the matter. In hindsight, that probably meant they didn't have fortitude either, and perhaps were still sporting the wolf spider passive instead of the crab spider.

But in any case, definitely approach asking the question carefully. Sending a 'Dude u suck u dun hav TT:M' doesn't usually end well. No, this isn't from experience.

...did you just compare power surge to tough?

Powersurge is not available 100% of the time, and therefore is not the end-all power that allows one to become an alpha-brute. At best, it is a situational power.

There are ways to deal with the crash. Pop a purple or Demonic before the crash, and have a blue and green lined up and you can actually be up and running in 2 seconds providing you time it right.

If you dig around both here and the scrapper forums, you will see dozens of elec/sd builds ranging from the incredibly expensive to the moderately affordable. It's kind of silly to post builds that are already fairly common on the forum.

I've heard some people say it's been like that since I16... only... it hasn't.

Still, nice to see the devs breaking that cottage rule when it makes sense to do so.
Energize was added in i16. It is not listed in the patch notes, but the change was necessitated by powerset proliferation as both scrappers and tankers had access to conserve power.

I believe that if you do not respec your brute, you will retain power names, which is why yours did not change.
  8. When I'm in the mood to push myself, I run two brutes at once and see if I can maintain full fury on both. Not only do I carve through mobs at a ridiculous pace, but I have a ton of fun doing it - especially at very high difficulty settings that require inspiration management as well. But after about 30 minutes of that, I'm ready to do something less intense.

I'll admit I've benefitted from having two accounts, and have certainly been able to make more inf from having two. The perks of inf transfers being incredibly easy, SG management, and so on is just an added bonus.

And to be quite honest, even having two accounts full of characters on one server isn't quite enough!

    The Best DPAs

Gloom helps increase sustained single target DPS. It is the key reason why a dark/???/soul brute can pull ahead of a dark/???/??? scrapper. We also don't talk about this because of this.

Try adding some melee defense to your brute. Throw in obliterations into Lightning Rod, Thunderstrike, and Jacob's Ladder. Add a steadfast 3%. Pick up weave. You can hit 30% melee defense without compromising your build.

My elec/elec does fine soloing 3/8 mobs filled with S/L damage. A big part of that reason is that a single luck puts me at the soft cap, and when you solo, inspirations fall from the sky.
  11. I'll throw in DM/Elec into the mix. It has some intersting tools. The End drain of power sink isn't great (what is it, 19% now in PvP?), but it's there if you can catch them off guard.

But for the most part, it's pretty rough being a brute in PvP. SS does have KoB, which is handy.

PvP 2.0 doesn't make any sense. Flurry? What?!

The dispairity between the two is larger then you make it sound, missing from it are things such as arc bonus', end of mish bonus' and patrol XP. THey do quite count for a nice chunk of xp in most RC mishs.
As I joined CoH after CoP was pulled, I didn't realize it was that big of a deal.

As for AE being profitable, I have found it far more effective for PL purposing, as you can still tailor mobs to fit your powerset. It is this reason alone that it is easier to farm with. There's no real way to stop this.

    Quote:
I actually tried to disprove it, I went into RV on freedom, at around 3 in the afternoon and advertised making an AE arc team, managed to get a 5 man team together for eh, bout half an arc. While in RV there was a quite healthy 17 ish heros, and 9 vills.

Triumph was much the same, managed a nice 4v3 in RV and a nice quiet 3 man team, we did a few arcs however before it died.
I know of a few PvPers from Infinity that moved to Freedom for that reason. I wouldn't base PvP stats on Freedom for that reason.

    Quote:
Ok, you don;t have to beleive it for it to be true man
No but I would like to see something besides circumstantial evidence before drawing your conclusion. I realize that until a dev shows some solid data, this is going to be moot. I will be shocked if more people PvP than play AE. That does say something.

    Quote:
Would they prefer AE over PvP, yes, for only the fact that its PvE in a PvE centric game, I am speaking in reference to existing levels of players. Although, comparing who will go to what base over whatelse is different, considering that AE would be more appealing for lack of a severe learning curve, seeing as how PvP hardly resembles PvE.
    We are agreed.

Cimerora took up a nice issue, isn't done, and is certainly currently getting used more then AE( Proved by the numerous ITFs always going on ).

Where as AE took up the better side of what, I'm tempted to say 3-4 issues, and is currently nearing a point where the devs are likely thinking it complete, and as of now, has less users then cim, for more time invested. Is this a failure? Yes, can you fix failure? In this case yes.
There are only two draws to Cim: The ITF and farming the wall. However, I admit you could say that about other zones.

    Quote:
However, until it is fixed, it is quite low on the list of things that can be considered a buissness failure. However, not completely, it has potential, however, like I have said in this thread, it won't go anywhere until the devs come to terms with the fact that people will farm in it.
    Absolutely.

My issue with your post was your statement that PvP was more popular than AE. I don't think they are quite comparable. For starters, AE is an option for PvE'ers as something they can do, while still in a PvE environment.

PvP isn't an option for those that want to PvP. If they want to take their 50's to PvP, there is only one place to go. Those that enjoy PvP will undoubtedly spend more time in it compared to a more casual PvE'er.

I will take your word that this is the case, but I still find it hard to believe.

That leads me to believe that the AI is actually rather intelligent. Why pick a fight with the scrapper that hits like a truck when this tank isn't going to hit hard at all? Sure, I'll go fight the tank. He hits like a girl. That's better than that person over there carrying a broadsword. I think I'll leave them alone.

My main is an elec/elec brute, and I don't notice this, but this may be due to my attacks having a taunt component and my tendency to aggressively use powersink as a taunt and a source of end drain. I also keep lightning field running, which keeps things nearby.

This may be as intended but it was unclear at the time and I haven't seen anything about allies who betray you in the patch notes. It was difficult to pinpoint this because there were other mobs not yielding xp/influence.

In short, it's solved. I know the reason for some of the XP lack and don't understand the reason other xp loss.
Would you consider posting an ARC ID# so someone can look at the mission in game?

PvP I will, and many others, will prolly agree is the third worst failure in the game.
Cathedral of Pain got less media attention than Architect. Many players don't even know what CoP is. Architect still works, and there is parity between missions in AE and in game missions, providing you avoid using custom mobs. Yet if you use the words "PvP" and "failure" in the same sentence on this forum, very bad things happen. Oops.

The only outliar in the data that is AE is whether, when speaking towards AE's population includes or discludes the farmers that STILL use it, in that case pvp might not have double, but definitly more then AE.

    Quote:
Is AE a ghost town?, Litterally? No. Comparitively to the next smallest minority, yes.
Which minority are you speaking of?

    Quote:
My experience on triumph, small server really, is we have an astounding 2-3 AE author regulars, possibly 7 players a week play arcs in week, the authors are included in this number. We have 6-9 pvp'rs that PvP quite often daily, and have on occassion, usually once maybe twice a week, we can peak at a nice 6v6 or so.
I would argue that the average PvE'er is more likely to accept a team invite to AE over a team invite to PvP. Over the course of time, it is more likely to see a larger fanbase using AE than active in PvP.

    Quote:
As far as failures in a buisness related sense, AE can quite easily be considered a failure, this isn't an opinion, but a very arguable fact.
At best, this is an unsubstantiated assertion.

My Mids isn't available on this machine, so I'll going to have to post what I see:

    1) Get a KB protection IO slotted somewhere. While grounded covers the majority of your needs, there are times when you'll want to jump, which for some reason, always coincides when the enemy wants to throw a KB power at you. It's annoying.
    2) You don't need doctored wounds six slotted. I don't even remember the sixth bonus for that set, but i don't recall it being spectacular.
    3) Powersink is overslotted.
    4) Health is underslotted. For example, that 10% regen you get from the 2 LOTGs in CJ is nothing compared to what you'd get with another heal IO. I'm not necessarily recomending you do this (see point 3)
    5) With your accuracy, and followup, lightning field can actually work with only 4 IO's. I never found scirrocco's negative nrg resistance set bonus that important. Hence how twin sets of Acc/Dam/End and Dam/End should be plenty for you (scirr's and multistrike)
  18. I think now is the point in time where someone demands the "Why can't we all just get along hug".

    Go on. I'm waiting.

Advertising for a game you like is a good idea. The reward of knowing you're helping a game you enjoy should be reward enough.

I do admit that CoH doesn't seem to get the ad space it deserves, but I'm not looking at their advertising budget and have no clue what is realistically feasable for them. I do however believe that CoH has a fan kit, and perhaps P_P, you should consider using that fankit to make a facebook group. This costs the game nothing, and the best advertisement continues to be word of mouth.
  19. Procs in toggles roll once every pulse on the power. They aren't usually as useful in toggles because of how much more unpredictable this makes it. Usually, they are more handy in click-based powers.
  20. Be careful, or you might find diminishing returns being implemented in forum PvP.
