And if you think a tank without Taunt isn't able to tank.... Well, I can't say anything nice about that so I won't anything at all.
Not necessarily. Not everyone understands how to punch-voke. Those type of players do need taunt if they are looking to assume the tank role. I'm perfectly capable of holding aggro on my brutes and keeping even the squishiest lowbies alive in incredibly chaotic environments. However, this is where player skill and an understanding of game mechanics kicks in.

While I probably won't kick a player for not taking taunt, I would kick a player if their playstyle is clearly interfering with the survivability of the team. As for looking at powers, I rarely click player info. If I do, it means you've done to get noticed and I'm curious as to the depths of your stupidity.

While I agree with you in principle, Ironblade, I have seen far too many players that would benefit from taunt because they have not grasped the concept of punch-voke.
  2. With power customization, you really can do just about make any powerset 'match' and with some creative writing, you can make just about anything work. Obviously, the pink pom-poms of doom is the obvious pairing, but I strongly recommend against it for one simple reason: If you're wanting to be unique, don't go with the typical pairing!
I bet you thought I was going to say lolEM

-WM/EA is a good combination. Besides having the cult-reference to strong and pretty, it offers a good combination of mitigation options and offers acceptable levels of AoE and single target damage. While you said you didn't want to hear about build, having a balance of single-target and AoE attacks will increase your flexibility with IO sets.

-WM/SD can be pretty clever. Nothing quite makes a statement like a character with a pipe wrench and a manhole cover. 'Nuff said.

-DM/NRG would do alright. The to-hit debuff would help increase your survivability if you choose to avoid IO'ing out the character, coupled with siphon life. I like dark melee.

Just about any set combination would work if you think hard enough about it.

  5. Nice build.

You might want to consider super-speed over super-jump. Coupled with your stealth IO (that you forgot to put in sprint), that should give you invis for the times when you want to stealth something.

Personally, since Ninja Run drops toggles, I'd go with CJ/hurdle and superspeed.

As your recharge is good enough to double-stack Practiced Brawler, you might consider an end mod over the rech IO. You lose about 10 seconds, which really is minor.
  6. When the primary motivator of an elec/sd is significantly more effective on scrappers, there really isn't a comparison that needs to be made. In this case, the scrapper will run circles around the brute. In game, I see numbers around 300 for brutes and 600 for scrappers in similar difficulties for the mini-nukes.

IIRC that issue is not with all AT's that have SD, though I modify mids so often that I forget which is fixed in published versions and by myself. The easy way to test it is just turn off phalanx and see if all 3 go down.

Your range def on that build is 42.4%.

I'm not fond of siphon's slotting here. I prefer seeing more recharge, but it does depend on the desired attack chain.

I also think that for soft-capping, GSFC is going to be much more desirable for the build. You do lose the 5% recharge bonus, but you gain more flexibility with slots as now dark consumption doesn't need to be 6 slotted.
  9. I forgot to add one thing: The reason for the difference in numbers is that Enzymes are technically a defense-debuff. However, as defense debuff and defense operate on the same value, using a defense-debuff enhancement will function the exact same way as a defense buff in a defense toggle.

This is a minor bug, and is allowed to be slotted because defense toggles allow slotting of end redux, so we can slot that particular hami.
  10. Allowing players to select the level of their recipes has numerous advantages:

    1) Reduces the market load on older computers as less recipes are loaded
    2) Increases supply, which is especially helpful redside
    3) Helps alleviate the demand for SK-friendly mid-range IOs.

As long as players can select a level range of 10-50, or limited by the particular IO range, this idea is /signed.
  11. Cytos offer 20% Defense and 33.3% End Redux
Enzymes offer 33.3% Defense and 20% End Redux
I'll let you decide which one you like better.

As for sustaining the ST chain, yeah, you'll probably need those. While you'd save some end having tough slotted more effectively, it doesn't compare to your attacks. Given that you're stacking your mez prot, I might actually suggest swapping grant cover with OWTS and throw that GA 3% there and get a hami res/end in tough.
  12. I can't see it on a red villains background.
Use fruit salad for your export.

    Comments:
-Use Enzyme Def/End over Cyto Def/End. They work, despite being def-debuffs.
-I'm not wild about siphon life, but you did slot it well. If you want to stick with that, I might suggest using mocking beratement's Rech and Acc/Rech for a slight endurance bonus and better recharge in that power.
-I probably would take the end redux out of your purpled powers and slot up tough more for better S/L resistance.

Having to respec out the IO's takes like 3 minutes. And you can tweak your characters powers and slots. That hardly makes it "time consuming and arduous", lol.
It takes me about ten, because not only do I have to reslot everything, I have to redo my power trays. On some characters, that means deleting a LOT of temp powers.

    Quote:
The only real factor between being able to swap around IO's right now is having a ton of currency to do it with. Either by buying respecs, or by buying all new IO's. Its the same thing just without having to spends gob awful amounts of currency (inf, merits, etc, etc) to get it accomplished.
I have a decent stockpile of inf (I'm in the ebil club), and I wouldn't waste 180 mil on a respec recipe. I'm guessing most players that have that kind of inf wouldn't either.

    Quote:
And the folks who can afford to do this now ? You got it - you read the other thread in this topic about "how much do you make in a week". As stated hundreds of millions and some billions are the norm for even decent marketeers in a given week. Usually even farming doesnt make that kind of currency if you wanted to argue for farmers.
    I can pull about 500 mil/week farming easy. I just don't want/need to. I've pulled 400 mil in a single day before.

I'm not going on a "down with marketeers" rant. What I'm really saying it take some of the BS thier gonna feed you with a grain of salt - and realize that this idea HEAVILY effects their interests in the game vs. the benefit it could provide to most players in general.

    Get real.
How about you show me a fallacy first before I believe a word you say? Insulting an entire group of players is poor form.

I'd head to the tech forums when you have time. Crashing when SB is applied is not a common problem. I know at least some nVidia drivers have had issues with the game, and somehow when I installed Aion, CoH turned into a black screen. An update from the 1.8 to 1.9 series or something like that solved my issue.

I stopped keeping up with technology 5 years ago, but I'd take a look at the drivers for that video card. I think your crashing problem is fixable without having to buy anything new.
  16. I propose the following merged server and the new server names:

-Libinfree (living free): Liberty, Freedom, Infinity
    -Tripin' (tripping): Triumph, Pinnacle
-ViViVi: (it looked cool): Virtue, Victory, Vigilance

Then we'll clone infinity and get this:
    InJustice: Infinity and Justice

Since I can't come up with what to do with the rest, just arbitralily delete those. I'm sure then the OP will be able to find a team. It just might speak another language.

    Oh. Oops. On the idea.

    I mean NO.

Salvage prices HAVE changed in the past two years that I've been playing the game. Are we playing different games?

During the AE craze, uncommon salvage spiked drastically due to shortages. While patient bidding would get you it for less than the typical 100k, you would need to buy above the flippers, which generally were around 21k or so, due to competition. Higher-demand uncommons were sustained at around 300k, like Unquenchable Flames for months. Those flipped around 66k. Prior to the AE craze, all of these salvage were readily available and would never approach 100k.

Alchemical Silver saw a radical rise and decline over the past two years. It quickly became the most expensive common salvage with prices averaging around 60k. A concerted effort by some players was able to crash the price for a good amount of time. Currently, Alchemical Silver goes for around 30k

Rare salvage during the AE craze crashed. Platinum, which regularly went for 3mil+ was now selling for 1mil, due to market saturation. Continual use of AE has somewhat stabilized the rare salvage market.

On top of that, we're seeing an influx of recipes that previously were more difficult to obtain. For example, much of the touch of death set has crashed, due to AE ticket roles. It's a great time to buy. Then you have the bronze 15-19 roll set that has supplied the market with a lot of in-demand recipes, from Imperviums to Steadfast 3%'s. The price has dropped somewhat, and is more susceptible to crashing due to a players learning about what used to be a nice niche of mine.

So, I really don't know where you're finding your information, but from my experience you are way off.

    Quote:
Recipe prices have changed in response to changes in the game, but I would argue that they have found a new equilibrium. Of course, the game never stops changing, so prices never stop changing, but that doesn't fit the definition of hyperinflation.

Try an ITF where someone doesn't want SB'd in the caves. Then try to keep SB on everyone else while they run around like chickens with their heads cut off. My point was that when playing Kins, it is very easy to mistakenly distribute SB to those that don't want it, especially during more intense moments.

In any case, those that don't ask for SB don't bother me. Those that scream for SB while I'm focusing on keeping the team from wiping with my minimal tools for mitigation upset me. I left an ITF over that during Rommie's fight.

My experience playing a buff-oriented character appears to be completely different than yours.

    Quote:
I probably wouldn't want to play with them, but only because if they are so focused on DPS to not accommodate a player's play style then that is not my idea of "fun".

I don't focus on getting to 50 the quickest, I focus on enjoying the game. I always have.
It's nice that your focus is fun in a video game. I like speed runs from time to time for the challenge as well as I sometimes have time constraints that mean I don't have two hours to do something. Anyway, I enjoy efficiency, so I'm beginning to get the picture. We have very, very different views on a video game.

I've made my fair share of mistakes in the past, and I don't usually worry if someone buffs or fails to buff me by accident.

I do get annoyed if I get boosted into a group and die because someone assumes that I want it. I'll make a note on the character and if they do it too often I'll let them know.
Which is why a good kin won't SB you mid-run.

    Quote:
I've found the exact opposite. I had super speed on one character for six months trying to get used to it. I prefer any other means of transportation over super speed. I'd use hover over it (and have).
I'm going to assume you play a lot of blueside. I play redside and superspeed works great at getting around in an arguably more difficult navigational setting. It took a while to get used to it, and on some characters, the runspeed is actually capped. I love speeding to the next mob (I'm a brute, so fury is always on my mind). Hover is the devil, with it disabling Lightning Rod on my brute. Meh.

    Quote:
I don't have an issue with the Taxibots. I've known several and people that do similar tasks on other servers too. Generally they are nice, helpful people. Even the one person that slightly annoys me from time to time, I respect (TonyV aka Taxibot Belle).

However when anyone tells someone else:
They have clearly demonstrated to me that they seek either cookie-cutter builds to team with or have a predefined notion of what a power set "should" do. Neither of which I do. I don't like people trying to dictate how I play my characters.
When I read that quote in context, it sounds like that player is suggesting they abandon the build program and actually focus on what the powers do in game. I may have misread it.

In any case, it would be a nicer game if both sides would give the other slack. Maybe that buff on you mid-team was an accident during a very intense moment, or maybe they don't like SB because it kills their FPS. I do try to oblige requests, but circumstances often dictate principle.

I'm also wondering just how old your computer is. I sometimes play CoH on my 5-year old laptop, with 1 gig ram, 1.3 gig processor, and onboard intel vid card. It loads things a bit slow and I run graphics at a minimum, but I don't take a huge FPS hit. If you're running something even slower than that - wow.
  19. First, I'll state that I think the option to either cancel or ignore player buffs is a good idea, and certainly would solve some issues in the game. Even the ability to better control if buffs were displayed graphically would be a nice addition.

However, I do not have any sympathy for those that would lash out at a player who had good intentions to help another player - even if their assistance was undesired. I'll honor someone's request as best as I can in game, but some of the ire that I'm seeing in this topic makes me wonder how many magnitudes greater a reaction would be to actual griefing.

Have you ever tried to keep a team speedboosted on a kin thru an entire TF? Assuming one cast per 2 seconds, it takes 14 seconds to apply the buffs that in 90 seconds will expire. On top of that, you'll also be worrying about transfusion to keep players alive, keeping increase density on the squishes for mez protection, attacking to deal damage, and running in and using fulcrum whenever it's available. I'm watching the health bars of players, verifying that the target I'm targeting through them is in range of transfusion/transference when needed, watching my defenses to make sure I'm not facing cascade failure, and checking the team to see if I should wait 3 seconds for them to gather for fulc or just fire it. WHEW.

In other words, when I play a buff-oriented char, I'm usually preoccupied dealing with the entire team, and my focus on a single player doesn't work. On top of that, I use keybinds for teamselect. A simple D/C and suddenly you're one of the numbers I usually would buff.

So, I find the easiest, most efficient thing to do is offer it up to the team to decide whether to buff or not. Chances are, if the rest of the team wants SB and you don't, you probably don't want to play with them because you'll always have to catch up to them.

I used to try to oblige those that didn't want buffs. Now, it's all or none, because I will make a mistake sometime in the course of a TF, and you will get buffed, and probably will yell at me.

In other words, not buffing a player isn't always as trivial as you would think it is.

    4) My complaint with speed boost these days have to deal with the run speed component (it has gotten me killed too many times). I made a suggestion last summer that people should be given an optional "speed slider" to have the ability to cap their own speed to what they are comfortable with, along with the ability to enable/disable that cap.
I have found that playing characters with superspeed completely eliminates any issue of navigation you will encounter having speed boost. While you may still not like the power, taking steps to reduce the annoyance factor for you will only enhance the enjoyment you will get out of this game.

Can I have your global name so that I can add a player note to never team with you?
While I'm not the person you addressed this to, feel free to add a note to my global as well. It's the same as it is on the forums. As you may not play on Infinity server, you may not know how service oriented the Taxibots are, and how they do try to avoid hostilities. As Wendy is a Taxi, she has to abide by their rules, which includes treating other players with respect. Somehow, I doubt you'll need to add a playernote.
  20. A lot of things changed. For starters, the amount of inf earned per drop was fixed, which means that 50's earn more inf simply playing the game. I'll also ask one question: Red or Blue? Redside has some severe market shortages going on, which is making prices soar even higher than Blueside on some items.

On top of that, the period of quick 50's meant people potentially could go 1-50 in 3 hours. That's a tremendous amount of inf generated in a very short period of time. Multiply that by a large sample of the population doing this, and inflation starts running rampant.

I assume that when the two of these combined, you had a pretty hefty hit on inflation. On the bright side, lots of things are selling more than they used to, which means it is also easier to make inf.

The most profitable method of earning inf continues to be the market, whether it's by flipping recipes, crafting, or simply using the market to sell your drops and listing them intelligently.

Using AE for tickets can be profitable, providing the recipes aren't saturated, which has happened to quite a few recipes (so there's some things cheaper than they used to be)

Running TF's daily tends to generate a nice amount of merits, which can be used to roll on randoms or specific recipes. However, for the time needed, it does not compare to AE ticket generation (though you might find soloing AE at x/8 difficulty gets monotonous after a while).
  21. I like the set options in Whirling Mace more than Dark Obliteration. I'm also not a huge fan of redraw, which is exactly what you'd be doing with Dark Oblit.

I went with whirling on my mace/stone, and I'm quite happy with it, but I designed it to be a taunt bot.

    Tough decision

    Claws/Fire.

    However:
Fire relies heavily on healing flames, which will cause redraw. Every 20 seconds or so, you'll be doing this. The same would go with choosing mace.

Whirling Hands is just awful. I'm happy you like the look of it. If you think you'll enjoy it, go ahead and roll with it. IO's make anything look impressive. Of the three, if you want to avoid redraw, this is a good choice. The damage aura helps with AoE and healing flames helps take the edge off of energy transfer.
  23. I have a few short comments:

-Don't forget the possibility of using Enfeebled in a patron immobilize for some S/L def
-Maneuvers on brutes doesn't do that much. It gets you softcapped, but on a secondary where it can regen quickly, I'm not sure how important the softcap is.

My focus on a claws/WP is a lot different than yours. I'm interested in squeezing as much innate potential before I bring in the set bonuses. At that point it becomes personal taste and your observed ingame performance. So, while I would slot various things differently, your choices for what I think is your goal seem adequate.

  25. Perhaps the reason you see so many of those ridiculously looking names is because people aren't:

    1) Creative
    2) Clever
    3) Patient

To be honest, I like all my names because they are creative and clever. I would be annoyed to see another fire/nrg blaster named Pyrhiccup (what happens when you eat a hot burrito and burp?), or someone make a character named after my main. I'm fairly well known on Infinity, and I would be quite annoyed to see some upstart redsider roll something else called Sprite Night, when I have had that character for a long time, and that sequence of Sprite characters has been a great way of identifying my characters. (*Grumble at the bluesider that took Sprite Light*)

I do not want to share my name with anyone. I'll also assume that many of the players you will play with will also not want to share their name.

edit: "Obscure Names FTL" Heh, I got a grey dot. I only regret that I can't make them turn red.
