    I learned something today. Thanks!

I was comparing the damage auras between scrapper and brutes and I never noticed that scrappers lacked the taunt component in that power. Interesting.

I'm assuming SC = Shield Charge.

Shield Charge and Lightning Rod summon pseudopets. The target of the power is you as it brings you to the target and then spawns the attack. As far as I know, those procs will never proc on an enemy, but actually, will proc on you, meaning you could actually die from those two powers. I guess it is possible that the slotting also affects the spawned attack of the pseudopet, but as far as I know, this is not the case.

I haven't seen any AT match the AoE potential of an Elec/SD/Blaze scrapper yet, although typically that AoE potential is wasted as you aren't always hitting the target cap for your mini-nukes, making something like Fire/SD/Blaze a good option because it offers both AoE and ST dmg.

    WP/SS IO sets

Knockout Blow. You want the recharge for that attack. It's a bit end heavy, but you probably have quick recovery and stamina.

However, this is the kind of question that does better in the specific AT forums, such as the Tanker Board (posting this in the defender board instead would be amusing).

    ? / Inv

Best? Nope, not going to happen.

We have the best single-target set, the best mitigation set, the best AoE set, the best jack of all trades set, the most endurance efficient set - you get the picture.

With that said, here's a few combos.

DB/Inv is a nice combination because you won't be suffering from redraw that often compared to other sets. It's probably one of the few pairings I would do with Dual Blades. On the bright side, with enough investment, Dual Blades can really shine.

I toyed with a claws/invuln before deciding on Claws/WP. It looks very impressive on paper, and would perform quite well with sets. Good damage.

Dark/Inv would be a tough brute to kill. You have the -to-hit debuffs to help mix with your defense.

SS/Inv is a nice combo. Super Strength is just a nice set. Good mitigation, good damage, decent AoE.
  5. If you've teamed with other players that talk about S/L caps, perhaps they were talking about defense caps. It is possible to get a /FA brute to the S/L defense softcap, though I believe it gimps the toon. It's smarter to aim for around 32.5% defense, and then add some appreciable recharge, HP and recovery.

    Or just go HP/regen.

With so many things you can do with IOs, the only thing you can't build for is resistance.

Sounds like a great idea. I have a few 'fun' category suggestions:

    1) Longest and still running noob.
    2) Player most likely to be hit with the nerfbat*
    3) Ugliest character

*Because said player is simply OP no matter what set they play

Calling other servers names is what a way to make your server feel superior? GG
If I based my judgment of a server on Fire_Minded's post history, I would believe Freedom to be a terrible server, where if you don't have a Stone Tank and an Emp you fail. The only real time when healing really is a big factor in gameplay is the first few levels, prior to when other forms of mitigation start picking up steam. That's why I usually like to see a thermal or an emp in the early levels, but as I play redside a lot, I know that no AT or powerset is ever needed to play this game, unless you add stupidity to the equation.
  8. The only possible thing I would be in favor of would be a slowly scaling -end redux similar to how our accuracy slowly decreases as we level up in the early levels.

Once I hit DO's, I'm slotting 2 acc, 1 end redux in my attacks and I routinely pass out blues to players on teams because they don't slot their attacks that way and are always starving for blues.

Pre-lvl 12, I tend to have endurance issues and need to rest, but unless I crank up the difficulty, I have no problems with endurance post DO's. Then again, I'm not running toggles at that level either, which is another common mistake I see.
  9. I see why you're going for defense sets, but you're also going to hurt for endurance from this. For example, death shroud alone consumes 0.44 eps, which will really add up over time, after you start adding all the other toggles.

Performance Shifter is preferable over Adrenal Adjustment in Physical Perfection (proc, end mod, and end/whatever)

You actually get more regen by slotting a numina heal IO over the +regen proc, because you're also getting the 12% regen bonus from the set.

Dark Regeneration benefits from a mix of both accurate heal sets, especially the theft of essence proc (chance of 10 endurance back per minion hit)

Fire/Cold damage isn't incredibly common, so you might be happier with the +hp from Titanium than the Aegis set. There's also reactive armor if you want to 4 slot it for some more defense, though the numbers would be rather paltry.

That's just a few things I see with a glance. I'm sure someone else will be able to offer better observations.
  10. I have a nin/nin/soul I built for PvP. Long story short, don't. There are better primaries to pair with /ninjutsu.

For PvE, having divine avalanche definitely helps survivability. It also is a beautiful set, and with good recharge, has an effective attack chain. However, it is a late bloomer, and I had to respec once I had the better attacks. It's a fun set for PvE.

For PvP, outside of fiteclub, Divine Avalanche really isn't going to help you at all - and this was my mistake in designing my build. I built mine to double-stack DA. As players move around a lot more in PvP, it is hard to reliably rely on Divine Avalanche - especially when you want to use your harder hitting attacks anyway. You'll find that outside of Retsu, you are incredibly squishy.

It can be that I don't have patience for PvP on my nin/nin, but it just seems like other primaries perform better when it comes to PvP.

You do realize that in apologizing for this Mod8 is probably going to fall out of his chair laughing?

This is an incredibly civil discussion on a worthy suggestion, and half of what has been said on both sides is already beyond my basic understanding of phpBB.

Wait, who am I kidding. Most of everything said is beyond me.
  12. I'm not an artist and know nothing about the medium, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.

It seemed you wanted to have the TK'd one struggling to hold up (or is it down?) her shirt, so you might want to have one of her arms holding the shirt, though I like the second one a lot better. (I thought she was laughing too!)

I agree that not seeing the other arm looks odd. Maybe she's holding it out to help act as a counter-balance or something.

edit: Although rotating the bottom girl a bit would solve this problem as well.

Quite an interesting forum you all have here.

    Rikti Hunter

Out of those choices, DM/Elec will grant you some great survivability for mothership raids if your sole focus is Rikti. Fire/Elec has great damage, and offers better AoE, but at a cost of survivability.

However, you could stack some impressive defense on top of that build, though, and get a satisfactory result. I'm guessing around 32% without sacrificing anything, and you could probably push it further if you're willing to begin prioritizing defense over offense.

While I love /elec, there's a big difference between the 90% nrg res you get on a brute and a tank and the 75% res cap you get on a scrapper.
  14. Bots/Traps has been a popular AV soloer for quite some time. I'd suggest heading to the MM boards and start hunting for some discussion on that combination. I think there are even some screenshots and posts on some AV kills.

However, I don't think I'd be too interested in taking a bots/traps MM on an ITF, especially on a PuG. I just don't have that kind of patience to deal with a PuG on one of those.

Chances are if a poll was taken on player opinion, most players would either not care, or be in favor, with a clear minority against a merger. However, player opinion does not matter in this decision.

    Quote:
So, with "heroes would be OK with that" off the table, the argument is that heroes would be "too dumb to notice" and/or "powerless to curb the corruption, and so they would accept it and participate in it." And, not just some heroes would fall into the "too dumb / too powerless and therefore accepting of the status quo" category, but *all* heroes would fall in that category.
Given that most players already are willing to pay BUY IT NAO prices and have no issues giving their hard-earned inf to the ebil ones, I don't see a problem with changing the B to a V.

    Quote:
Moving beyond the "WTF" moment, what is enticing about roleplaying heroes who are dumb enough or morally bankrupt enough to actively support a corrupt system of commerce?
Cheap goods. I don't want to go down this path too far, but in RL, many of our purchased goods can be imported from countries where there are no child labor laws, and workers have very few protections available. The majority of the populace is perfectly happy finding a bargain. While I would like to think that a hero would be slightly more noble, I just don't see this being realistic. I bet if I could check a comic-book hero, over half of those costumes would have a tag that says "Made in China".

Morality has been shown to be second to economics time and time again.

Further, the RP argument is secondary to the practical argument. Having both greater supply and demand not only adds further market stability (which we already can readily observe in the two factions), but also helps alleviate the issues Going Rogue may present as villains may head to greener pastures and heroes may balk at the poor selection redside.

Agreed. The arguments against a merger have been lacking compared to those for a merger.
  17. You can also have another program running in the background if you want to alt-tab out. That tends to make vista a little more responsive when you try it. I use notepad, since it doesn't suck up resources.

  19. Well, I suppose I'm fallible. What a disappointment. So, something was accomplished from this topic.

May I direct you to these topics on server transfers?
Discussion: Free Character Server Transfers for the Holidays!
Discussion: Free Character Transfers extended until February 28th!

I really thought you were being sarcastic with your previous post.

I wouldn't suggest kicking people but you get the idea.
As was already said, there's this thing called 'free server transfers'. It's also been extended until the end of February.

I also happen to frequent the brute boards where I have had the impression that the OP may benefit from looking at trying some other communities. Rather than completely explain my thought process right now (and likely offend an entire server for an unfortunate stereotype), if you would like to understand why I suggested it, just start searching the brute forums.

In any case, nothing ever productive happens with this topic.

    Slotting Gloom

It's important to note that the game only calculates the highest defense value. So if your S/L defense is higher than melee and someone tries to throw a punch, it only calculates your S/L defense, not your melee after your S/L defense. I've run across players that seem to want to stack both because they think they're adding even more defense by doing this.

Also, there are multiple routes to go on a /WP brute. Of those, here are the sets to consider:

    1) 5 Slot Decimation for 6.25% rech
    2) 3-6 slot Thunderstrike for 2.5 - 3.75 nrg/neg def
    3) 3-4 slot Devastation for 12% regen and 2.something HP
    4) Apocalypse for recharge, regen, and HP.

If you're looking to help round out your nrg defense, try going with Claw's recommendation, as it is a solid combination. If you're looking to stack recharge for greater offense, go with decimation or the more expensive option.

Good builds decide exactly what goals to have in mind and then choose particular IO's that achieve that goal.
  22. I'm sick and tired of this topic.

Let's save several dozen pages of discussion right now.

Some powersets of support classes are able to restore HP, some prevent damage, some reduce damage, and still others show that the best defense is a strong offense. All of these options can drastically improve the capability of a team.

If you aren't valued on your team, leave it. If you find you run across too many teams that don't value your contribution, try using the server transfers and see if you can find a community you enjoy spending time with more.

    Buff Ninja/TA MMs plz.
  24. I run 2/8, so the damage is reduced. The difference between a capped scrapper and a capped brute for those two powers is stunning, and arguably broken.

The smaller third radius of Lightning Rod is what really hurts the power. The best option is to target the strike at the boss in the middle of the mob so the boss recieves the bulk of the damage, while the weaker minions are easily defeated by a fireball if needed.
