    Ohh man,

I just recently crossed over to the dark side and I am really having a good time. It really does feel like I have rediscovered everything I enjoyed about CoH when I first started playing.

I have rolled a Brute since I am so accustomed to scrapper types but I am very intrigued by MM. I am going to roll one to play while my patrol XP builds up on my Brute, then play them back and forth for a bit.

    So, to my question.

As a total newcomer to MM my current concept is leaning towards Bots/Dark. I do have some experience with /Dark on a defender and found it pretty fun. If I get hooked on this combination and take him to 50 is it a strong performer? It looks like it would be pretty good to my noobish eyes. Could it be made to solo AVs? How about just general solo leveling?

    Thanks for the help.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only noobish question is the question not asked. With that in mind anything "Dark" is a powerhouse of Yesness. Between Darkest Night and Your protector bots bubbles You'll be the belle of the ball. I went bots/Pain before it became trendy and haven't regreted. Bots is an excellent Primary as they tend to be easy to manage and kept alive by your heals as they don't stray too far out of your range of heal.

In conclusion, go get them AVs. But remember to bring purples and oranges.

did see you mention it, but I also saw enough comparisons with Flash Arrow's unresistable -tohit throughout the thread implying or outright stating that the two sets had basically the same -tohit vs AVs that it seemed necessary to emphasise the difference once you do factor Fluffy in. Although the difference isn't quite as extreme, it felt like watching a comparison with Kin's +dam that kept excluding Fulcrum Shift.

If you don't include Dark Servant you might as well not include Tar Patch in your calculations. Hell, while we're at it we should also not include fearsome stare or twilight grasp.

Look, if we are going to compare and contrast builds, you need to include everything.

I'm not a number cruncher. But I see the benefits one Secondary offers to a "team" over another.

Dark Miasma offers group control and debuffs in the means of Darkest Night, Tar Patch, fearsome stare, Dark Servant and Howling Twilight, All at relatively good recharge rates with the exception of Dark Servant and Howling Twilight; however Dark Servant is a persistant pet and simply slotting him with 2 recharge, you can have him out all the time plus he's a mobile control. TA also has decent debuffs and controls..however two of the main controls are on fairly long recharge (OIL and EMP).

Dark Miasma offers a few things that TA does not. It offers a group heal (Which helps a lot in team play, despite its range) Dark Miasma also offers +stealth +resistance to all teammates in the form of Shadow Fall. It also offers a Rez to a team which is also a decent AoE disorient (Howling Twilight) so you are really getting two powers for the price of one (You don't need a dead alley for this power to work either.)

I'm not going to compare and contrast the debuffs of TA and Dark Miasma, they both are decent AoE debuff and control sets. However, Dark Miasma offers much more to a team than TA does and as a player I am much more likely to invite someone who can add resistance, heal, debuff, controls and rezs, to my team than a MM with a secondary that can only control and debuff.

I don't believe the question should be "Which Secondary is better?" the question should be "Which Secondary offers the greatest benefits to a team?"

How about not. This is a TA discussion, so take your Poison eslewhere.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hit you with Weaken. You are now 74.5% less Special.

    Poison foevah!

Comparing TA to another powerset can make for a very compelling arguement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Comparing TA to other powersets doesn't make interesting debates, it makes threads get locked. Every "TA versus *" thread starts the same way, with some idiot yammering broad generalizations, ignorant conclusions and outright lies, then a demand for a "heal arrow", followed by a few days of me and the other well-informed TA players correcting the ridiculous disinformation, which eventually leads to pointless bickering and meandering side topics about fruit and/or cars, and finally a big, fat lock.

Then we get blessed peace for a few weeks, until the next clueless underwear stain picks up a bow, plays for fifteen minutes and comes to the forum to scream about how TA "is supposed to be better than X" and starts the cycle all over again.

Lord Nemesis could design an automaton with the schematics for these "debates". Steam, clockwork-like precision, it's all there.

    *yawn*

    [/ QUOTE ]

My Weaken does better -TOHIT than your Flash Arrow. My weaken also does -22.5% (mids) damage debuff. It even states that it makes opponents less special -74.5% -Special to be exact.

    Discuss.

With all do respect and this is only my opinion of course; it looks amateurish and haphazerdly put together.

The footer bar looks like it's supposed to be center aligned with the page and instead it's aligned left.

The title bar blends terribly in with the background.

The sidebar could use a border around it.

And there's just too much happening in the background, it looks crowded.

Just to answer a few immediate questions:

Bruce's red name: Bruce won't be posting directly on the forums.

How long can questions be asked? Questions will be collected on Monday, September 22nd from both the North American and European forums.

When will the questions be answered? Shortly after they are collected we'll post up Bruce's replies.

Not long after that, we'll introduce our next dev and ask for your questions for them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A question a bit off topic for Lighthouse or Bruce; Will this "Ask a Dev" be a recuring thing perhaps every issue or once a month? I like the idea because It serves to bridge that rift between developer and player. Making the game feel more like a community.

Perhaps Castle is waiting to see the ramifications of the Stalker buffs on PvP. Remember, he already said he didn't like the idea of Stalkers being buffed in PvP. He's probably been sweating bullets, hoping he didn't break anything.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I hope you're right. I just recently rolled my first Stalker (MA/Nin) and I'm luvin' it except I noticed the placate bug. came on the forum to check it out. First toon I can safely not take Stamina for and it's a melee toon of all things.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Is there any word on this at all? If/maybe it'll get fixed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, since I12 stalkers have gained some significant buffs including Tuesdays MA animation changes. Yet, no new news on the placate bug. Anyone else find this peculiar?

    <QR>

    Um...yay?

Seriously...these Midnight Squad arcs sound most tasty.

    <nomnomnomnomnom...>

    [/ QUOTE ]

"The image I have in my head is of a stodgy old Midnighter rolling a big crate out in front of the Freedom Phalanx. The lettering on the crate reads, “The Arc of the Covenant”. With a smile, the Midnighter asks the group of heroes, “You gentlemen think you could put this dusty old thing to use?”

This is a really bad idea, bringing anything into the game that has any form of religious connotation is a bad idea...

I hope the story is influenced by the arc and not the arc itself. "sigh" we'll see I suppose.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Still doesn't address the concern I have.

You know, that if you put this little bit of code into the game, that it won't earmark it as Ad-Ware/Malware and make my (and various other players) antivirus/Anti-Adware-Anti malware programs go "NUH HUH this is bad juju! you no play now"

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was stated in the article that the advertsiements would be static. The current billboards don't effect your spybots or antivirus programs therefore these ads won't. I doubt they would lie to us on this point.

I would like however to be reassured that my account as well as personal information will be secure and not offered to third party advertising constituents. And that my mailbox in game and outside of game will not be flooded with unwanted ads.

I think these are fair and relevent concerns.

P.S. I would also like to be reassured that we are getting VEATs in the near future. Maybe with an updated news article on what we are getting for VEATs? :P

    LH, where's the Beef?!
  11. I'm with SkyeValentine on this one. The Doom and gloom fire and brimstone speculations are getting a bit irritating. What unnerves me the most is that it's coming from forumites that I would normally consider 'sensible.'

Why make gross assumptions on a campaign that hasn't even started yet? Call me a tragic optimist, but I do believe NCsoft has the consumers best interest in mind as well as their CO* franchise.

Let them implement the ads. Lets see consumer reactions concerning how NC decides to display these ads BEFORE we begin spouting accusations of greedy bottom liners.

I've said it before, I welcome the adds if the proceeds are truely going towards more content and larger staff.

However, if the ads begin to intrude on my game enjoyment, I'll quit. That simple. I'll Send a short and concise formal complaint to NCsoft, Cancel my billing, my account, and quit.

The sky isn't falling, the world won't come crashing down on my head. I may feel a tinge of disappointment but in the end, I'll find another game to enjoy. Couldn't be more simple than that.
  12. I hear a new visual sound will be implemented exclusively for Roleplayers:....

    "Fap.....fap...fap, fap,fap,fap,fap,fap!"
  13. I was actually really excited about this, I laughed when It finally registered that it was a joke. I mean doing away with all sound was a bit much, lol. However i'm just a tad disappointed. My brother plays the game and he's hearing impaired, I think he would have gotten a kick out of the visual sound effects as would I.

Is it possible to purchase the visual sound effects as a pack in the near future? despite the fact this was a joke?

(Modified cause he can hear a little with his aid.)

Using my newly built kinetic capacitor I discovered a way to alter the resonance of these energy strands. After the er…massive release of energy generated in my lab with the kinetic capacitor, I appear to have sufficiently altered the resonance of these energy lines. Despite the minor….mishap in the lab, I am proud to announce that I, Dr. Brainstorm, have opened the door to new powers here on the Rogue Isles, allowing new super powered citizens of the Rogue Isles to access an additional primary and secondary power to choose from!"

Like to have some unique between the two sides. So either DEAL or stop running around crying like you got sand in your V....you know the rest.

As for giving Thorns as a secondary to a controller, wont happen, Why? Its a Assault Power, & Controllers secondaries are Buff/Debuff/Assist.

Silly People, new power fandangling starts happing, everyone like, OMG I WISH MY BLAH BLAH BLAH Had Every Power out there to pick from, WEEEEE.

Do you know why people want MMs blueside? Because redside sucks. The color schemes are all dark and gloomy, in a bad way, not a cool 'Sin City' style; they just look muddy. Not only that, but the texturing is about twice as heavy on the graphics card redside, so people that have some lag issues they can get around, sorta, are absolutely unplayable redside (I'm usually one of those. Fortune smiled and I got an upgrade recently, however, but it's still a 2002 eMachine I run). It's not that we want to remove the uniqueness of MMs- Nothing could ever be quite the same as them- but Blueside enviroment is much more... Hmm. How to put it... Easier to deal with. Especially with travelling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm going to try and respond to this without any Disparaging or derogatory remarks while being as short and concise as possible; so here goes.

No matter how I spin it, those blue-side who want Master Minds are going to argue that Master Minds should be blue side.

Despite arguements against, CoH and CoV are two entirely different games. Therefore people expect an entirely seperate experience. Master Minds like Defenders help distinguish that difference and mold villainside into a unique game.

Perhaps within the near future we might see a type of "summoner" for hero-side that might better fit its theme. Untill then, I can't agree that Master Minds are prevalent aspects in any "Super Hero" theme. They are however very widespread within the Super Villain archetype.

Side Note: I appologies if you don't enjoy the colour scheme of villains, it's an entirely seperate theme than heroes. As far as lag and graphical issues. Your comp is 6 years past it's prime. It's probably about time to invest in a better computer. a 2008 computer from best buy for 400 bucks will get you a VGC that'll run CoH as well as CoV smoothly.
  16. Not sure where all the griefing is coming from but this is my suggestion:

It's a pride factor for those Vets who have earned their veteran rewards (and they should be proud they've helped keep the game alive for all of us.) Why not every veteran reward, give the Vets a "3,5,9, etc. month Veteran" Badge? Those who wish to purchase the veteran rewards as a pack, do so for 10 dollars each veteran reward. Minus the veteran reward badge. They would unlock the badge once they reached the monthly goal. This way we can all distinguish the vets from those who have payed for the packs.
  17. I don't have anything against Veteran rewards. But why not make them available to everyone? institute an optional way of purchasing the pack similar to the wedding pack.
