Quote:PvP is a feature that I look for in every MMO I play. I treat PvP like end game content. If CoX didn't have PvP I wouldn't play it, as I often determine the health of a game by the health of the PvP system and its community.WoW has a bigger userbase to draw from, too, and has the resources to do more specialization.
PvP is a feature, not the only draw to a game and don't confuse drawing subscribers with retaining subscribers. People being drawn to CoX just for PvP are very few, and very far between and as I said, I prefer CoX's PvP implementation than any other MMO I've played.
The majority of players do not like PvP at all and very content sticking with PvE content. So, the $64000 question is why don't more people like PvP in CoX?
If it were as critical as you say, you'd expect the developers to spend more time on it.
The majority of people do not like PvP in this game because PvP is largely disassociated with the rest of the game.
CoX's problem is simple. The developers don't treat PvP like end game content or any other content. Because of this PvP has suffered and will continue to suffer untill they realize that it is just as important if not more than most other content.
There is an enormous desire to be able to duel people in the open streets, this is PvP. However, why is this treated differently than zone or Arena PvP?
Because it keeps with the theme of the game and it is not removed from the rest of the game. -
Quote:your logic is bad. You are assuming everyone will eventually play the end game content because they hit 50. However some may not even be interested in the end game content. If this were true wouldn't everyone PvP after they have gotten at least one 50. Clearly, they do not.
PvP is the Platypus of contents in most MMOs; as it is both content and end game content, so it is particularly important to the survival of a game. -

Quote:But why should i have to make a 1 minute + duel into a 10-15+ minute duel bc some people cant be kind enough not to attack me for a minute?
You know coming onto these boards and complaining about being griefed in-game will not help your problem. If you feel that you are being singled out and unfairly harassed in-game. feel free to file an in-game petition on the players in question.
However, keep in mind zone PvP is open forum PvP while Arena is where you are able to host duels.

Quote:Really? I enjoy Hami-raids immensely because they are team oriented, there's a strategy and every person plays a role.I would counter by saying one more >.>
A low-level co-op zone.
As for the hami raids.
I don't give a hoot either way, I've never done one, and prolly never will. They just don't appeal to me (I HATE the hamidon section of the LGTF.)
Anyway, It would just make sense (to me) to make Hami-raids Cooperative as it isn't specific to either Villain or Hero. -
Place hami in a Cooperative zone so that heroes and Villains can fight hami together.
Hami-raids never seemed to be particularly Heroic or Villainous to me so it just seems logical that hami-raid zones should be Coop. -
I tried CO, didn't care for it. Cell-shading gives me massive migraines. I've heard the arguements "It's a new game, give it time." "They just need to polish it a bit." "Wait and see, it'll get better."
I'm sorry but, time isn't something CO has. There are too many better MMOs coming out on the market for me to throw my money at. By the time CO puts that "final polish" on their game, I have a feeling those other MMOs would have already hit the market. I'm looking at Swtor, Final Fantasy, etc.
So, no. There was no temptation.
Besides, Cryptic wants to compete with Swtor once it comes out. I have a strong feeling they'll be using CO subscription money to launch their other MMO campaigns..I'm looking at Star Trek.
I like to know my money is going towards the improvement of the franchise I am paying for. Not to fuel another project. -
Quote:'greatly' with DR in place tends to be 'minimal', but it really Depends on his Playstyle. I have a feeling he's wanting to focus on demoralizing the enemy and less on buffing his teammates. The new PvP favors offensive over defensive tactics.IMO, the biggest demoralizer is a brute webnading double taunt bot. I get more complaints in zone broadcast from my 3200 hit point phasing brute who does this than any of my other toons. It does however get old listening to people gripe, so it's best to have a fallback toon.
I'll take the other side of the coin and tell you to definetly take the therm shields. Considering most serious pvp doms take scorpion (for good reason), you will get alot of range out of the resist buff to their base resist even with DR. Also quite a bit of the stalker population still run defense based toons, so they will greatly benefit from the shield as well.
If for no other reason, sonic is useful just because it has access to the dreaded stun. All the squishies who know what's going on have acro, so holds are pretty pointless. Having access to another control tool, even if its only 2 seconds longer, is pretty handy. Not to mention when you do damage you're lowering the targets resist and helping your team do more.
But yes, if you are looking to be both support and offensively viable, Sonic/Therm for sure and take the shields. Holds are a joke.
[sarcasm] I don't know, should he even bother with cauterize? They tend to hinder teammates that already have a self-heal more than they do help, with DR in place. [/sarcasmoff] -
Quote:You aren't complaining that we'll be able to solo missions at full team strength come i16, are you?About as much sense as gutting AE cuz people whine about farming, then make it so you can solo missions at full team strength solo just fine for all your farming needs, I suppose.
Oh and making flurry one of my strongest attacks.
Cause, I'm friggan ecstatic. -
Quote:Really? It doesn't matter how you play the game? Cause I play to win. /em smirkReally? Wow...that's sad and pathetic. In online gaming there are no cowards and there are no tough guys. There are winners and losers. It doesn't matter how you play the game.
How the hell do you build a toon not to be a coward anyway? Do you take both taunts in presence pool and roll a tank with a shield that has inherent taunt?
Or do you log into freedom RV and challenge the fiteclub po-po to a duel under Atlas? -
Quote:Hey, Ex GuildWars ladder member here too. Pirates of BBQ bay and Death by Snu Snu.Is there any reason to take a Pain corrupter over a Pain MM? Seems like the MM would have a lot more survivability with BG mode, and if I read correctly it seems like single target spike is prevalent so extra healing isn't going to help.
Looks like I'll need to find a couple of those. Are there PVP tanks that can survive a triple AS? I don't want to go too heavy on the Stalker side, because they're not very useful in PVE and I'd like to keep some balance in the VG composition.
So they're the hardest ranged DD to kill and they're on the same team with Blasters. How does redside compensate now that DR nerfs holds?
What? Doms deal damage? My 50 Mind/Psi solos for crap slotted with damage in her entire secondary. I guess I must be doing it wrong, maybe I can pick a couple up in zone.
I'm mainly interested in controlling, confusing, and demoralizing the enemy team. I expect that in order to get a team going I'll actually have to take a support role - the role noone ever wants to play. Same as in Guild Wars, really - I was a great Mesmer, but always ended up playing Monk. I have a couple Thermals I could adapt for PVP play - am I correct in assuming that I'm better off with Ice/Thermal than Sonic/Thermal for PVP?
If you are looking for a demoralizing class villain-side I'd definitely go corr; either Sonic, Elec or rad as your primary with Thermal and slot the -endo proc. Radiation Emission doesn't hold up so well in PvP since your two main debuffs are toggles and I have little experience with cold domination to be honest.
If you do go therm (which I suspect you will) I Wouldn't bother with shields unless you are using them as placeholders for IO bonuses, with the current rules in place, shields are unnecessarily redundant. -
Quote:Oh man, don't even get me started on how many kills I got with TPfoe a corner and force-bubble (Still do). It's fun to be a bad PvPer.Thats alot of wrong info right there. TP foe hasn't broken hide since the stalker buffs a few issues back. People complained about it so instead of having it actually break hide they put in the phase after tp timer. And yes really bad pvpers got alot of kills with it.
TP foe really isn't an issue, it's fairly easy to counter. -
Quote:It isn't so much that farmers derive some sort of enjoyment from the activity of farming. It's the satisfaction of acquiring the loot, infamy, merits, that allow them to outfit their builds and toons with the best 'stuff' that drives people to farm. (gold sellers are of course the exception. They farm for a monetary value on the dollar.)Some people enjoy having specific self set goals. I enjoy building some of my characters towards specific goals, those that I have specific goals for I play with a mind towards those specific goals.
When I play my Ill/Rad I'm focused on getting to the final goal (my final goal, which is different than anyone else's), I have so many goals for him that I strongly doubt I'll ever achieve them all given my playtime and style, but every step closer makes me smile.
Other characters are more for less directed fun. Those that I don't have goals for, I tend to play in a much less directed manner. I don't really care what I'm doing on my scrapper for instance. If it sounds fun, that's where I'm going. I doubt I'll even bother with common IO's for that one, much less an optimized build.
Farmers farm because they are farmers. It doesn't matter even how you define farming, it could be street sweeping in atlas. If you define their group membership based on an activity, if they participate in that activity they are a member of the group. There is not one answer to why all of them participate in that activity, each one has their own personal reasons.
Given that it's a video game, I'm guessing that the answer for most people is they derive some sort of enjoyment from farming. And that's probably the only true answer to your question.
The developers have created a system that rewards farming and in many ways encourages this activity. Why farm? Because the game encourages it. -
It isn't the damage that's killing people, it's the chance to crit. Just remove the chance to crit on Spirit Shark.
Honestly, the easiest fix to the Melee dilemma (IMO) is to give Melee powers a chance to detoggle travel powers such as CJ, SS, SJ. Then we could get rid of this craptastic travel supression system that is universally despised.
This suggestion would still be a long way from fixing PvP. However, I'll leave the rest of the PvP suggestions to the people who know what they're talking about. -
Quote:Duel Meh!!!Been done. Castle isn't PVP spec'd, but even so he didn't do THAT badly against Johnny Mercone in the I13 testing phase. I think the final score was 4-1 in his favor. I was expecting worse...
I've a Stalker, a Corruptor and a couple others I PVP with once in a while.
Seriously though, it wouldn't make PvP any more attractive to me; PvP is still (for the lack of a better word) borked.
However, with that said I would love to watch such a match. -
I have both /Poison and /Pain secondary. I couldn't tell you which is "better" because my play style differs dramatically between the two.
Poison I tend to be more offensive and less team oriented. Poison is also a much more active secondary as you will constantly be applying debuffs and micro-managing between pets.
As a pain MM I play the role of tank/support; meaning I buff team-mates while drawing attacks away with Challenge. I wouldn't be able to do this with Poison as it doesn't have the survivability Pain has.
Really depends on your play style and whether you're team-oriented or a duelist, whether you prefer Arena duels or zone and team Arena. it IS possible to play a pain MM solo, but the secondary comes into its own on a team.
Arena duels with Pain, you'll most likely be tying matches with scrappers (especially regen) where with Poison you stand a very good chance of winning. -

Quote:I prefer to make ATs that are supposedly not "PvP viable" and then roll FOTMs in RV while laughing my *** off in broadcast. With ae just rerolling is a breeze, i rolled toons i would have never rolled if it wasnt for ae. LOl like my pb I'm working on i hate them but just for the sake of saying i pvped with one i'm a do it, i'm even going to accolade and purple him and stuff lol, i never roll a half *** toon even if it's just an experiment.
And actually, you come help us fight crime i'll pl you myself, hero or vill side lol.
Cause nothing is more hilarious than rolling a fully IOed FOTM with rad/rad/sharks.
Although pwning a Blaster with a petless poison MM is pretty ******' hilarious too. -
Quote:Why not roll all 3?Hello everyone.
I am a new player, and in the last three days have experimented with a Mastermind, a Dominator, and a Brute.
Now I have the dilemma of having to choose one to actually play through. This is a very difficult choice for me! Each does an excellent job of giving its own brand of 'super-villain feel'. I love the pew pew pew of the dominator, the shambling deadly henchmen of the Mastermind, and the bestial kill frenzied smashing of the Brute. They each really do have their own flavour and playstyle, and I am finding it very difficult to choose between them.
To 'help' me in my quest to settle into one role, I thought I would ask the community for thoughts or stories about their own characters, and which class they like to play the best. I would very much appreciate any thoughts you have along these lines.
This may seem a strange post for the PvP forum, however, PvP is my ultimate goal. Once you hit the level cap, PvP is the only thing that matters, and the main reason I play these games, so the PvP community's thoughts are the only ones that really matter to me.
Thank you for any response!
better to understand the roles and mechanics of each AT then to limit your understanding to one. At some point you'll find which AT you are more comfortable with.
I LOVE MMs, however I've fallen in love with my Plant/Enrgy dom. I never thought i'd enjoy Doms. -
Quote:Ahh, you almost had me you silly troll. 2 points for effort.Hello, I'm a PvP n00b. I don't know anything about PvP prior to ... two weeks ago? Point is, I don't know anything about how it works, and I have a few questions because my four matches had some really weird results.
So anyway, I'm running a bots/traps MM, and I've fought against two brutes, one tank, and one scrapper. Every one was smart enough to attack me directly, not my pets. -
Quote:Scrapper Advice for PvP: "Don't make anything but a Regen..Regen are the only thing that works in PvP."I am new to PvP and was wondering if there is anything I can do to make my MA/WP scrapper better in the PvP. Any advice would be great. Thanks!
And you still want to try out PvP? -
Quote:Look, Donna, let me put this plainly. Duels don't belong in open PvP zones like RV, Siren's Call or Warburg. Duels belong in the Arena, that is what Arena was made for.Neuronia, I agree that is stupid. Maybe the calibur of duels stateside from here on union are different, that scenario would wind me up to as one of my main toons is an Ill/Emp.
Smeghead, I see what you are trying to sarcastically say, but if it were my choice you couldn't get me to arena if you tried. Dunno what it is but I hate the place, I don't PvP anywhere other than Rv.
Telling player A that they can't attack players B or C in an open PvP zone because player B and C are Dueling, is directly interfering with the fun of Player A. If player B and C do not want to engage others in PvP in an open PvP zone they can go to arena.
Now, do I agree with Silit and the other PvPers with how they deal with Duels in open PvP zones? No, but then I could careless about PvP. I'm just a farmer in a farm zone that gets yelled at by PvPers because they get too close to my farm equipment. -
Quote:See, this is where you are wrong. It's not that most of the player base "don't want anything to do with PvP," they don't want anything to do with PvP "WHEN it is forced down their throats. "This alone should tell you that most of the player base doesn't want anything to do with PvP and to force it in their face with yet more PvP will do no good.
If you are engaged in a PvE mission it's understandable that you aren't expecting nor desire to engage in PvP content. Nor is it fair to force players into PvP engagement when they are participating in PvE content.
This is where the Devs made their mistake when implementing PvP into this game. PvP should NEVER be a requirement for completing PvE content. However, PvE content should be tied into PvP content, in order to entice, encourage and promote PvP content.
This is one of the reasons why I'm so vehemently against PvP rewards (such as PvP IOs). It does not bridge the divide between PvE and PvP. Instead these rewards widen the gaping chasm between PvP and PvE.
Should there be rewards for PvP content? Sure, but the rewards should not have any affect on game play because we want to INVITE PvErs into PvP not alienate them even more.
It's bad enough the Devs thought that changing the rules completely from PvE to PvP would encourage more players to PvP (What kind of train-of-logic is that?) but now the Devs are giving players that PvP a bonus to PvP with IOs..that's fine, but that just alienates PvErs even more (GJ Devs).
P.s. I hate you all, I want my red wing back. -
Quote:Our definitions of a win are different then. If a regen is running and phasing from me for more than half a match I consider that a victory (for myself), despite the end score.A good regen will either win or tie. Its just a matter if picking the right inspiration load, and yes. Phase shift.
No you won't likely be able to kill a lot of the better MM's but they won't be able to kill you. 0-0 from running is still a draw. Not a loss despite what anyone says. Standing up to fight a MM is just stupid in a 1 v 1.
Elec/Therms you can usually draw them and just drag out the fight. If you can catch them between Phase/Hibernates you might be able to slip by with a win. (The few I have it was about stashing a few blues until late in the match and burning enough to get them to phase, then burning the rest after they come out.)
I'd personally go Fire/Regen as far as a primary goes. The DoT's with sudden death can really come in handy and fire hits like a truck. BS/Regen would be my second choice. DM with its lack of to hit buff/ auto hit build up just seems rough. Especially since you said it will be mostly 1v1.
Lets just agree that if a competent Regen VS's a Competent Poison MM occurs the match no longer involves PvP, but a game of high-stakes marco/polo with the Poison MM as "it."
P.s. Who the hell took my red wing?! -
Quote:Movement has always been the key element to this game. Keep moving. Stalker problem solved.I'm a Union player, and unless im on anything other than my Tank or Scrapper the stalker threat is very real, and very very annoying.
But I guess it's all part of the epic fail that is the new pvp system.
The only ATs that should be having problems with stalkers are Tanks and Scrappers and they can take an AS.
If you're getting ASed repeatedly as a defender, blaster, troller, you're doing something wrong.
P.s. team up. Most Stalkers will only AS and run, they won't perform any follow-up attack if they know your team is near by.
