Quote:Not sure where that rant was coming from but I always love me some forum soaps. :PWhile in PvP, like the title says. I'm a returning player after a two year or so break and getting back into playing. I really enjoy the PvP of CoH, really no complaints even all the current ones I'm reading about.
My only complaint is when a stalker talks smack in hide about how I play. It doesnt really bother me to much until I get a di*k who double teams or triple teams me then complains that I pop or run. I play to WIN! IDC that some people take a beating a die because they choose not to run or use inspirations. I win some and I loose some and I barely ever talk, if your talking in broadcast to the opposing side you arent doing sh*t.
Suck it up, and deal with it. Calling me a Pus*y when a brute and 2 stalkers are chasing me back to my base makes you look like a jackass.
Again PvPers I'm stressing here "Play to Win." Use your inspirations and your travel powers. It's your $15 a month and you can play how you want to. And to all the stalkers that talk sh*t in Hide... Give me a break, are you Kidding me... LOL I look forward to continuing to make you look like a noob.
/Rant
I don't Arena for these exact same reasons. Why should I play by another players standards of "fair" or "honorable"? Inspirations are meant to be used, Your environment is meant to be used, movement is meant to be used (although the devs seem to be trying to do away with this) temp powers are meant to be used and you have the capability to team. All these tools in Zones are at your disposal to accomplish one purpose, to win.
People like Sentry4 don't get that. He's in that strange category of people that still believe the sun revolves around the earth, the world was created 5,000 years ago, that there's no evidence of evolution; and choosing to use your fists in a gun fight is the honorable way to die.
Perhaps this is his subconscious way of conceding to Darwinian law? -
Quote:Please, please..i'm begging you, shutup. You're making me look good.I'd rather die then look like a coward infront of people, or look weak enough to need inspirations. The rare occasions i use inspirations is if my opponent uses their complete tray.
If you see "Win" as simply killing your opponent by any means, fine. But i don't win unless it's fair and i kill them.
Of course i agree with the fact that stalkers shouldn't talk smack. I threw mine away (put him in cap knowing i'm too lazy to get to RV) because no matter what i did he couldn't be as strong as my other toons.....he had to be a coward to get kills and i hate that.
I've yet to see a stalker who can stand their own. Actually i saw Deadly retribution did once, and some other /regen stalker, but that's about it. -
Wasted. The proc USED to have a chance to fire off each time the Carrion Creepers cycled through KB, however with the current changes the proc has a chance to fire off only once the first time you use the power. Slot Carrion Creepers with 2 or 3 damage procs, you'll get the most utility out of it this way.

Quote:Why? What is it about hibernate you don't like?Oh, don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less if they ever change Hibernate. It doesn't bother me. I just think the way it works is stupid, always have.
It's a cage effect that allows them to recover and regen, but do nothing else. Meanwhile you have all the opportunity you need to pop reds, park your heavy, throw your debuff/slow toggles on them, prepare KB.
The person with hibernate is taking plenty of risks by using hibernate. -
Quote:All hibernate does is delay the inevitable. My experience with hibernate in farm zones is that all it equates to is a free kill. "hibernate'll kill ya!" isn't just a catch phrase, for the most part it's very true.Well, considering you think that evasion is some elite skill and running away from your enemy makes for good pvp, I'm not surprised we disagree.
All of the running/phasing/hibernating has always been pretty stupid. The change to allow phased players to attack phased players was a great change, and should have been in place years ago. Hibernate was a stupid power to proliferate across powersets/AT's and has had a negative effect on pvp.
I agree, I like the change to phase shift. Fantastic change. However, I like hibernate, because I get a majority of my kills off KB+stun once the hibernoob is free.
Don't think of hibernate as a way to cheat you out of a kill. Think of it as an opportunity, they are essentially Caging themselves.
So no, it doesn't need a nerf. You just need to get smart with how you deal with hibernoobs. -
Quote:Question:
Power burst instead of blast?
I'm a pvp noob here but I'm not getting it.
You have much greater range on blast. Burst is fairly gimped in comparison being close to 50% smashing damage. The short range is a killer.
If you're picking up total focus, that will cover your short range and blast gives you another 80 ranged attack with comparable damage.
Something I'm missing?
Power Burst is Superior. I'm going to be following up total focus with Power burst, so I will already be in close range. Here's my chain: Power Boost+Power Push+Total Focus+Power Burst+Power Bolt
Depending on the AT I may opt to throw in a hold into that change just to make sure they are rooted. -
Quote:I can tell you after seeing someone's hold that is slotted strictly as a hold, both with pb, that the slotted done last a noticeable length of time longer than mine that is not.
No offense Conflict, I know you're here to help, but that post was completely unintelligable to me.
So you're saying the power that was slotted for hold lasted noticably longer than your hold that was not slotted for hold and this was with PB on both?
I'm gonna go with Mike's numbers below. Seem about right what I got on test. 7-8 second hold fully slotted with PB, 6-7 without. I realize how much a 2 second longer hold can make in an organized spike but it's still painfully underwhelming.
I still feel base hold duration should be 2 seconds in PvP yet with slotting for mez and set bonuses it can be improved. the first hold should apply for the entire duration inwhich you slotted your mez for. and then begin diminishing with each successive application. Otherwise as said before it isnt' "Diminishing returns" it's just "Diminished returns."
But, we have what the Devs have given us..in their infinite wisdom.
P.s. You're thinking of Megalomaniac Accolade power. It offers +special for 60 seconds. Curious as to whether if DR hits everything the same way across the board or accolades may be an exception. -
Quote:If you are /ea you want tf, it hits way to hard in pvp to skip.
You can skip levitate seeing you have power push to make room for tk. Pick up and extra power and more slots. Surprisingly terrify is not a horrible power in pvp. Much how squishies are wrecked by stuns because they can't get any real resistance to it, alot of melee toons have a fear hole in their resistance. I would sneak one of those new slots you pick up in the tk for lev exchange and at least add the hold piece from unbreakable to dominate. Slotting hold duration is vastly underrated in this day in age. I can see slotting non control toons for all damage no duration but for trollers and doms, especially with pb it very noticeable.
Aren't we already hitting the PvP cap for hold duration once we use Power boost though? One of the reasons why I didn't slot for any mez duration. -
So, Mike pointed out to me that Total Focus makes a significant difference and is a great follow up to KB, after considering the mez and damage TF offers I somewhat agree with him. I think I'll be trying it out. Although i'm still a bit weary of the 3 second cast. What do you think?
This is the build i'm looking at throwing up on test in a few days.
How is your build coming along, Jamus?

Thought I'd share the mind/enrgy build that I am currently working towards. I'd like to jump over to test and test out telekinesis. If it's as good as it sounds, I may just have to rethink the build. For now, TK just doesn't fit.

Shoot, I might actually have to rethink my build if TK is this useful. Learn something new every day.

Quote:I say screw skill. You PvP to win, not to build up some absurd sense of honour amongst PvPers.thugs/pain is an easy button. I've seen total noobs make them and kill everyone. They do not require skill and it proves nothing when you kill someone.
Bots/pain takes a bit more skill, it's not as easy as thugs/pains, and i've seen bots/pain die if they didn't know what they were doing.
It all depends if you want respect and a challenge, or possibly a few more recipes and some more rep.
Build what you like, just build to win. I have a Bots/pain and I enjoy her immensely, although I can certainly see the allure of Thugs. -
Quote:You're right, After reconsidering the changes Dominators aren't completely gimped in PvP and a few builds can still be "viable." How the devs retooled PvP to me is completely asinine if their goal was to make it more friendly for PvErs. The use of Dominators in PvE is dramatically different from how they perform in PvP. This is a complete put off for us newbies and it does make the AT seem illegitimate.Been posting here since before you came, will be doing so after you move on.
While true the day i13 dropped, its very far from true today. That dom damage buff lifted them up to blaster level damage with controller level+ mez. If you seriously think mind energy is the only good dom you need to get out a lot more. Especially zone wise.
Maybe in duels or for some zone cheese, and even that is debatable. Doms are a true force in pvp. Probably one of the top 2 ats right behind blasters. But hey, its not like I am in game pvping on the busiest server almost exclusive on doms so you may be right.
No, but it was by far the largest mistake you had in your post. Controllers still have many viable builds. Defenders need some mad love though, everything they can do controllers and corruptors can do way better.
Honestly when this pvp first dropped even I thought the role of the buffer was dead and gone, but after tons more play and time to get into the new system its not. A good buffer can actually swing the zone even more so than in pre 13. The down side though is the only viable buffing sets are emp, pd and therm. This leaves kins and sonics in particular truly shafted.
Feel free to reply with some more bad info and opinions the more times I can reply to you the more you can learn.
You say trollers still have many viable builds, what builds? I'd still pick a Corruptor over a Troller for the purposes of buffing as they also offer control when you need it as well as damage, so I often don't see trollers as much of an option.
We agree that defenders need lots of attention. So I won't touch that. -
Quote:Wouldn't bother with Maneuvers Myself,I'd personally take a patron pool that offers a resist armor if you aren't planing to take Power Boost(stick the mez proc and KB prot proc in your armor). If you can fit acrobatics in, take it, otherwise you need more KB protection. As a MM KB is your biggest enemy.Grrr, I keep changing things
I make a build and then I'm like "hmmm, maybe this would be better" so I go back and change it, but then I need to change this and this too, then when I get done and look at it again I see something else that might be better if I change it and it's like it turns into a never ending circle of change. Maybe I should just wait till 50 cuz until then I'm just winging it anyway, not going to actually respec until 50 and at least then I'd have some actual experience playing with some of the powers and I'd actually know from experience which powers I want to skip instead of just basing it on secondhand opinion and numbers.
That's probably the only thing I hate about TA. Every power looks good so deciding what to skip is very difficult, and you can't really rely on someone else's opinion because I've yet to really see two people that have the same opinion on what's good and what's bad in TA. One person will tell you to skip this power, but someone else will come out and say "no that's a good power, skip this one instead", and then the other person comes back "no, that power isn't so good, skip the other one"
So, nobody has any advice for me?
Also, i'm not entirely sure PB has any affect on Disruption Arrow, if you aren't planing on taking PB at all (Which I personally feel is great. It just adds that much more to your debuffs and control.) you can risk not taking disruption arrow as its a localized -resist and not taking it won't harm your build. -
I just like helping people brainstorm by giving them ideas for builds to be honest. Advice is a bit beyond me. I would recommend heading on over to the PvP threads.
I do know you lack quite a bit of KB protection and mez protection which can hurt you bad in PvP when you are out of Dom and judging by your recharge, you will be out of it for quite some time.
I have no experience with slotting water spout for KB, however that doesn't seem like the greatest idea. I tend to like to be in more control of when my enemy is being KBed, so water spout is frequently slotted for damage.
I'd stay away from the high casting time powers as well like sniper and total focus. Surpised you didn't take Power Burst.
Not sure how telekensis works in PvP. Whether it would keep the enemy held for any length with the new mez rules. Something to test out though.
Definitely head on over to the PvP forums. -
Quote:No, the suggestion was not made solely from a PvP point of view, although I did have PvP in mind. While Dominators may not play the same role in PvP as in PvE I still believe PvE Dominators are very similar to blasters in that they are "Glass canons."... which is who?
I'm not being snarky by asking that, but you say this as though everyone should know. With this statement coming from you, I can make the assumption he's a "name" in the PVP community. But with the OP's post just sitting there, I have no idea. (Yes, making the assumption of "he" as well, I know.) And no, I have no expectation anyone would know who I am, either
Are they saying this based on PVP experience? Solely or primarily from a PVP point of view? I have nothing to base their statement on.
However, I do stand by what I said about replacement vs adding. Find somewhere adding to makes sense and it'd be good, instead of replacing which will cause arguments.
And while some might be irritated with the comparison drawn between the two ATs, I feel the comparison is fairly attributed and to keep in mind the Devs themselves have made such comparisons (Tanks and MMs for instance).
With that said, no I'm not a "name" in the PvP community, by any stretch. I do however like to read the threads and dull out ideas no matter how bad they might be.
I completely agree with the idea of not replacing existing powers. But I still feel Dominators could use a patron power similar to hoarfrost as another means of mitigating damage and keeping themselves alive and "in play" without having to resort to hibernating which can take them out of play for a significant length of time.
Totally like to read other peoples constructive feelings and criticisms towards the idea. -
I would really like to see a patron similar to hoarfrost for Doms. Doms currently have no other option for a self heal other than taking med or hibernating, which puts them out of the game. If Doms are the Blasters of villainside, they could really use a patron power similar to hoarfrost. The patron pool most suitable for a hoarfrost like patron power would most likely be Leviathan. Replacing Bile SPray with Hoarfrost or perhaps the pet would be perfect.
Would this be too broken or would it be appropriate? -
Quote:That's an adorable suggestion.Villian Hibernate has become very popular. It's used prodigiously on Protector in RV. From my experience due to it's fast activation times (.5 sec) it can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in most situations, dare I say practically all. IMO its effectiveness should be reduced mildly in some way. A few suggestions off the top of my head (pick only one): Increase the recharge time. Increase the cast or activation time. Allow a phased player to attack someone in Hibernate. Add a significant travel suppression when the toggle drops (that would also be consistent with having just come out of deep-freeze). Apply a short interruptability to it.

Quote:Get a team member to KB your victim, hover over your traps (with a temp power or hover) TP them. between the KB and drop, they should hit your mines. Done this a couple times with friends.Usually I used TpFoe on my devices blaster, geometry was one of the best ways to lay your trap and pounce, I loved the open boxes in Sirens Call and the small archways in Warbug.
Mac is exactly right, people don't let go of the keys, there were many a time that my 20 odd mines didn't blow because i caught someone mid jump etc.
It took some practice but after a while I was able to time my ports so that you either caught someone on the drop from a superjump or even trickier when they used a rooting power. Brutes that just activated RttC were my fav :P
Anyway, problem now is that even well timed teleports result in players being able to jump or superspeed away before I can effect them. Mines are annoying now because they still activate! Phased characters shouldn't set off traps, surely!
TPfoe still works. It takes a little bit more effort like sillet said, but it's not like there's no way around it. -
Quote:I'll tell you what. You move on and I'll stop talking about PvP.You really should stop talking about pvp at some point, you have almost no clue whats going on. Bolded the extremely wrong part so you can figure out where you went wrong.
Doms were hit hard with the change in Mez. They are still viable, but pale in comparison to what a blaster brings to the table or a corr' with the exception of Mind/Enrgy.
Doms just aren't as effective as they were before i13.
Are you seriously nitpicking at that one bolded AT? Srsly? I'm not sure whether to be flattered or disturbed.
Move on. -

Quote:Thanks for your input and build Tokyo. After some revisions, i've decided to drop the medicine pool in order to get Assault and Tactics, which means PFF fromthe epic seemed pointless if i had no self heal, so dropped that too. here's the revised build, let me know what you think? and if you have any pointers
NP, glad I could give you some ideas. Keep in mind I'm by no means a seasoned PvPer. I PvP very casually, so its best to try and get the seasoned PvPers opinion. I always like seeing alternative builds. Good luck on your toon. -
Quote:umm, TA is arguably the least heavy on endurance with the exception of traps.TA is not easy on endurance (on mm's) so youll definately want to keep that in mind when slotting. I dropped disruption arrow because it is too hard to utilize (w/ a 10 ft. radius) when your pets are knocking everything all over the place. I would build for regen since you are shafted in that department. I am no expert on power boost, but it does not look like your toon would really benefit from it.
Overall I suggest looking at any build for any toon just to get a feel of the typical suggestions for slotting powers. I also suggest looking at the powers stats as you add enhancements, because most of your slots are wasted.
And it's a waste to slot for Regen on a MM. Slot for +HP, KB, Recharge and Recovery.
And TA would benefit significantly from PB, especially if he/she is considering slotting Oilslick for damage.
