Quote:Hey everyone, I know this is short notice, but I'm doing some ITF runs today. If you can't make this, there are already signups for a 7:30 run by Mr E-man here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=1#post2442748
If you want to sign up, just respond to this message with your level, archetype, and character name.
Levels 35-50 accepted.
For anyone not familiar with Master-Blades method for defeating romulus, here it is:
"Rush his platform immediately after the Cutscene (the "Real Rom" wont be spawned yet).
You being there (not using stealth, or attacking a side-group to suppress it) will make him instantly spawn, but the Nictus' bond will be broken.
Once this happens, you can pull Rom away from the platform, and the Nictus will refuse to follow. As long as you keep him in Line of Sight of the Nictus (even hundreds of yards away), he will still continue to use them to Rez and you wont have to worry about them at all.
Without them.. any team should be able to repeatedly take him down easily."
See you all in game. I'll be at Imperious at 4:20 to send invites, so try and be in Cimerora by that time. I'm hoping to do a few speed runs.
What's your fastest time for ITF runs on this server? -
Quote:Wow, when I first glanced at the title to this thread I could have sworn it read Tea Bag.Everything outside of the game seems fast, but when I log in? *raspberrys* Five second text responses, rubberbanding, you name it. Any solutions/links to fix?
I've been having pretty bag lag issues as well so it isn't just you. Wondering if the other Servers are having Similar lag issues. -
Quote:Sounds interesting though I read nothing of the PvP aspect of the trial mentioned anywhere. What made this trial different from a Silver Mantis SF?http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Cathedral_of_Pain_Trial
Basically it was a multigroup raid an SG could go on to get an IOP. It was removed due to a horrendous XP exploit. I suspect that it was never re-enabled because while the devs could fix the exploit they felt it wasn't worth it due to a lack of interest in PvP.
Thanks for the link and explaination. -
Yet another suggestion for travel powers. If you have Ninja Run take fitness's hurdle for vertical travel and take super speed as your only pool power travel.
Saves you two powers and an entire pool. -
I am a complete newb. I never base raided and I've only heard mention of Cathedral of Pain.
Could someone please explain what it was in detail for me and why it was removed?
Much appreciated. -
Quote:Be nice if it was similar to hurricane. Thanks for the confirmation.the debuffs drop as soon as the toggle drops, its not like hurricane. the debuffs apply as soon as the animation finishes.
one tactic ive seen good rads use is toggle the debuff they dont really need 1st to get you to mez them then they toggle the more useful one so that it lasts the whole supression period.
Love to get some advice/tips from a veteran Rad-er. Guessing there's very few to speak of.
Also, what's sacking lingering rads -rech rate? Feels like it has very little effect. Is it DR alone or are a number of i13 rule sets preventing it from being as good as PvE Lingering Rad? -
I can prove that I think I'm self-aware. I'm thinking that I am self-aware right now. What more proof do you need?
A Computer is not intelligent. It needs a program to perform a task/s and to imitate intelligence.
Anyway, this is a cyclical argument. So for the sake of random illogical conclusions we'll say you're right and i've been wrong the entire time. -
Quote:You seem to think it's difficult to prove self-awareness. I think that I am self-aware therefore I am.First off, you can't prove self-awareness so simply saying that you are conscious doesn't really mean much (especially since I could write up a program that simply outputs that exact response), especially since it's pretty easy to simply tell something to act in a certain way to emulate self-awareness.
Write a program that Reasons and can come to the conclusion that It is self-aware without preprogramming this into it. Then you might have a foot to stand on. Have to warn you though, General Intelligence has never been perfected.
Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Looks like I got my red wing back. Someone doesn't like being wrong. -
Prove that I am. C'mon now... asking me to disprove anything that you can't prove is a bad foundation for any argument.
For one i'm conscious. two I have an imagination. I am not exercising a pre-programed directive as I type this. This is learned.
And since you have no definition of what a program is the argument falls to my own definition. I can prove that I am not a program till i am blue in the face and I won't be wrong.
Anyway, I've never cared for philosophical debates. My philosophy teacher hated me. Why i became a Computer Science major. -

Quote:Samuel, that was really long winded. The problem is that the former definition actually fits things easily demonstrable to lack intelligence of any sort. Like a door lock. You rotate a key which "instructs" the lock to lock or unlock. Not intelligent, but it carries out orders on command. And we shouldn't really make a difference between electronic "orders" and mechanical orders, as mechanical computers have also existed. Electronic commands are no more "commands" merely because systems that use them are more complicated or because they require less energy to actuate them. Mechanical actuators exist to do the same thing.
Basically speaking, "operating by design" is not intelligence, not in any definition of the word I can accept. Intelligence requires an intelligent response. A pre-defined response is not intelligent. It may be appropriate, but it is not a decision, not any more so than any inanimate object reacting to physical law. Only when you have an actual, intelligent decision, or a decent emulation of such, can you actually have intelligence. People who are very good at doing what they are told do not do so because they're brainlessly following instructions. They are good at following orders because they are good at interpreting instructions, working out the INTENT behind these instructions, and then carrying them out to the satisfaction of the commanding figure.
A computer can only emulate intelligence if it is given sufficient situational awareness, which very, very few programmes are actually capable of. An AI within a game is, in fact, very rarely aware of even its OWN environment, and that requires no environment perception at all, since everything is virtual and already within the system's memory. Look at basic pathfinding within the game, and how often a pet will get stuck on a railing, running into it an unable to jump. I can see this, you can see this, and the computer can CLEARLY see this because both the environment, the pet's location and the pet's instructions are already within memory. But the AI is not able to comprehend the information and realise that there is a railing in the way and jumping over it the intelligent solution. Because the AI is not thinking of a larger picture, but rather an iterative process of consecutive steps, it cannot understand that you just want it to get from point A to point B, and it's not necessary for it to do it via those exact instructions and could go around if need be.
Something is intelligent if it only needs to be told WHAT it needs to do in order for it to do it, without necessarily having to be told HOW to do it. In predictable circumstances, the "how" is easy to just program in a static way. However, in dynamic, unpredictable and, above all, indescribably circumstances, this is non-trivial, and actually sets the limits on artificial intelligence. Humans are perfectly capable of functioning on unclear, ambiguous orders, in an environment full of unknown variables, using limited, incomplete and often misleading perception of their environment with often unreliable interpretation of this perception. Yet we manage to get through this mess just fine. Computers, at least current-generation computers, cannot. Not unless they are led around like little children or restricted to only very specific, controlled situations. We are intelligent enough to operate basically on our own, and we do pretty well for our limitations. Computers are not.
Basically, a computer is wholly incapable of intelligent action unless it is being controlled by an intelligent person or operating with very limited application.
Try this:
A program is created to perform a task/s. That task/s is designed by a programmer. A computer does not have intelligence as it can not opperate outside the scope of its program. -
Quote:Well, with cold you have a decent amount of mitigation in the form of damage debuffs, etc.DR is calculated on a per power recharge basis. so i slot accordingly. i find that 65% or so is noticeable. above that, pretty meh.
i run without a resist armor with my fire/cold, and it sometimes sucks, but the fact is, freedom zone pvp (what his build was for up until say 2 hours ago) is full of (edited so avatea doesn't ban me) scrappers with bad accuracy, hence i dodge those A LOT.
I was asking more about your rad/rad since it only does about -20% and I believe even that's hit by DR.
Also, happen to know if the Rad toggle effects linger for a few seconds after they drop, or do debuffs drop immediately after toggles drop?
And do the toggled debuffs take effect right at animation or is there a delay for them to take effect? -
I wouldn't be in a PvP zone such as RV if it weren't for the fact that NPCs in PvP zones have a higher rate of purple drop. With the advent of PvP IOs the devs have given me an incentive to farm player controlled pinatas.
Have PvP IO's helped PvP? PvP IO's have made PvP zones all the more rewarding to farm in. hence why I refer to PvP zones more as farming zones.
There are many like me that have been attracted back to PvP zones for the expressed purpose of farming people for IOs while we farm turrets and NPCs for purples.
if it hasn't helped PvP it sure has given us an incentive to farm players. PvP could take a long walk off a short pier for all I care.
I do it for the loot. Players are just an inconvenience.
So, there's your answer. -
Quote:Tell those CoH vets it's time to go redside. Recently went through everything redside, now i'm trying out blueside.A few friends of mine who are CoH vets have recently decided to put their accounts on 'hold' to play another MMO game. Their reason? There's no more content in CoH. With the exception of the up-and-coming Going Rogue, I'm seriously hoping they add more content to the game. I have 640+ badges so far (including all the Mo badges), and I hate to say this, but I have to agree with what they're saying. Each time I log in, I ask myself, "What do I want to do?" Yes, I could do radio mishs an infinite amount of times. I've done all the tf's, my toon is purpled-out, and the only way I can get more badges is by staying logged-off. I've done hami-raids, and ship raids (I even clicked the bombs 25 times before that badge was nerfed).
I really love this game, however I just wish there were more things to do than what's currently available. Surely AE can't be the only thing left as the final frontier. Ever since they deleted the 89 badges I had and took a wrecking ball to it, I've avoided AE since. -
Quote:I much prefer grav/TA for a disruption toon with fly and TP as travel powers.pure support is not the way to go on a grav/FF. Why even pick grav if your not going to use it right? if you like FF and want to only disrupt the other team go with illusion.
Grav/FF looks interesting though. -
Quote:Nice,HP. I went without focused or leadership because I found PBed rad+Rad Infec cuts through most defense.didn't look through it, but i just wanted to drop off mine here in hopes that you'll get a few ideas:
it's definitely a work in progress here, but yeah.. just throwing it out there.
Before I slotted my build I had scorpion shield. Later I switched to a resist armor because blasters were just cutting through the defense and I had no resist to speak of.
You don't find the lack of resist armor to be taxing in combat?
Also, do you find the Recharge past 35% to be worth having? I had 50% recharge and I felt like DR was really hitting me hard. The difference between 35% global and 50% seemed negligible. -
Alright, I like to challenge myself with builds when it comes to zone farming, otherwise I don't feel like I've accomplished anything playing a cookie cutter build.
Here's my rad/rad build. i'm not looking for a critique as I know it could be improved. However I am looking for some suggestions on how to make the build better and how best to utilize primary and secondary. As well as suggestions to best slot.
Right now I toggle the enemy with Enervating then RI as this seems to be the most fluid delivery. I follow this up with Lingering+PB+AIM+Cosmic+X-ray+Spam Neutrino+Soul Storm
Tend to finish off with PB+AIM+Soul Storm, as Soul Storm has an incredibly reliable scourge tic.

Quote:You obviously aren't a programmer.Actually, computers are incredibly intelligent. They do exactly what they're told to do when they're told to do it as quickly as they can (which is a lot faster than you could do so, I assure you). The problem is that humans aren't all that intelligent and can oftentimes be incredibly bad at giving the proper instructions to the incredibly intelligent computer that will do exactly what it is told to do. The problems isn't that computers aren't smart enough. It's that humans aren't good enough at giving accurate instructions.
Computers have no intelligence. They do what you program them to do.
also, I wasn't aware that tab didn't target nearest enemy either... newb learns something new every day.
So target nearest enemy would be ctrl+tab then? -
Quote:the Pet Auras create a large defense and resist aura around the pets that they are placed in, not you (Unless you are talking about the Intensive Recharge pet auras Which you don't ahve to worry about cause Nin doesn't accept them anyway). My problem with Ice Arrow and Smoke Flash is my lack of using them when I had them. They are both great powers, but I just didn't use them all that much. Granted I used Ice Arrow far more than I did Smoke Flash (I snagged it to replace a power I used even less; Aid Self) that still wasn't much. I'll look into it again though.
I thought the Pet IOs worked by making a PBAoE aura on me, wouldn't that mean it could affect all my pets not just the pet it's slotted in? And would they even be practical since I'm always at range (Close enough for Supremecy)?
I do still have Assault in the third build (Taken at level 49) Tactics was skipped though, I understand it's a 10% ToHit boost but how does that translate in the scheme of things to the pets?
Thanks for all the help and putting up with me. Despite having this guy and leveling him up to 50 pre-AE I find myself clueless as to his inner-workings. I appreciate all the help!
The aura procs are always practical and the radius is large enough to encompass all your pets. Get the Defense and Resist aura's for your pets, especially for Ninja and Necro.
I wouldn't bother with Ice arrow to be perfectly honest. Take disruption arrow instead and slot this for recharge only. Between acid Arrows -15% resist the achilles heel proc (placed in Acid Arrow) -15% resist and disruption arrows -15% resist
your enemies will be melting.
Grab scorp, get your shield, Webnade (adds to slow and keeps multiple enemies from running) and Power Boost (For Oil Slick and Acid Arrow cause you'll want to slot oil for damage and proc it out.) -
Quote:Assault couldn't hurt, but between Oil Slick, Glue Arrow, Genins Caltrops, and Oni's Fire patch Assault it isn't really necessary.I figure Assault couldn't hurt, but I'm not sure what I'd take instead since I opted to go with Hurdle/Swift/Ninja Run for my pseudo-travel power (I did snag Hasten at level 8 though). Any other suggestions?
I might, Pinnacle is developing a nice, lax PvP environment so I have the chance to! -
Quote:He'll want at the very least the pet aura procs even if he isn't looking to use sets. Zombies are extremely vulnerable to lethal and fire damage more so than other Pet primaries. This lack of resistance and defense tend to make them VERY squishie so at the very least he should be looking at the 4 pet auras.good slotting ideas, but as he is specifically not using set IOs, I would go with the additional recharge if you decide to put a 6th slot in here.
however, with the level you are fighting at and the additional debuffs you're adding with the revised slotting to Lich, etc you may find you can use that slot better somewhere else. unless you are frequently self destructing a pet, most likely the lich, to use extraction on, it will probably be up often enough with just 1 recharge.
Yet another suggestion, including the Intensive Pet bonuses. Acc,Rech,Recharge Intensive Pet Def Aura,Recharge Intensive pet Resist Aura.
Otherwise: Acc/Rech/Rech/Rech 1 generic Acc enhancement is more than enough for your Soul Extraction as you're supremacy offers a 10% tohit bonus.
Keep in mind the higher the henchmen you extract the spirit from the more powerful the Extracted soul is. So use Soul Extraction on your lich. -

Quote:Currently lvl 50, what would be a good build for PvP? I notice all my ninjas including Jounin do a max of 12 dam to players, so Im assuming I should focus on using TA to hurt the heroes.
Here's a very rough build to consider. I opted out of leadership because your two most important Secondary Powers for PvP (Glue Arrow and Oil Slick) have no tohit check. So leadership for TA is optional (and unnecessary in my opinion.)
Good luck on the build.

Quote:You're best to slot your soul extraction with the Recharge intensive pet Auras. One acc and as many Recharge IOs as you see fit (or the 3 recharge IO's from soul bound).Say, here's one last question. I get the Lich and I get the others, but what do I slot my Soul Extraction for? Right now I have it slotted for accuracy, triple damage and a single recharge. Given that it's on such a huge timer and temporary anyway, shouldn't I just slap another recharge enhancement when I get that chance?
I'll pull up Mid's just to give you an example of how I had mine slotted.
Edit:
Soul Extraction: SBA (Soulbound Allegiance): Rech/Acc, SBA: Rech/Acc/Dam
SBA: Dam/Rech, CTA (Call to Arms): Defense pet bonus, ER (Expedient Reinforcment): Resist pet bonus
This is my PvE setup. My soul extraction for PvP is slightly different although I'm considering getting rid of it. Between the -tohit in my personal primary attacks, lich and Weaken; my -tohit pretty much floors enemies tohit and accuracy.
