Quote:is it 2?I can't remember the last time I used a Shivan so I would not oppose an uber nerf to them if they ever need to take them out of the pvp zone.
When running into content I can't do solo, I have one of 3 options (as of issue 16):
1. Make everything -1 to me.
2. Get team mates
3. Go get toys such as shivans or nukes.
So yeah, I'll let you guess again which of those is an EPIC WASTE OF TIME to me personally. Hint: It's not 1 or 2.
Quote:What Are Heroes Running FROM?
I run because I most likely have my rad toggles on you and i'm pulling your lame PvP butt into a mob of NPCs so I can farm you. -
Quote:Shivans are not a carrot, it's more like a mouse trap.Adding a stick to the PVP Zones to get people to fight won't work if the carrot of Shivans or nukes doesn't. If people run as soon as they're attacked when in the zone for those things they just won't come in at all if they HAVE to PVP to get their shiny.
I think another thing that might make PVP a bit more attractive would be to do away with the rez penalty. Let people pop up in the base at full health.
I am still thinking the idea that there's a chance of getting a shiny if you lose a PVP match might be a worthwhile addition too, but I'm not sure how you'd implement it in a way that wouldn't allow cheating ... -
Quote:The irony.
There's no living or dying, this is just a bunch of pixels we're talking about (and characters never die, they just get sent to the hosp ; compare and constrast with D2 HC mode for example).
This is a videogame, and the only thing that matters is having fun.
That's not saying you can't have fun by winning for any subjective definition of winning (some consider winning to simply having more kills than deaths, some will run away often to try to keep that ratio as high as possible, some will perma-run and not kill more than one person a hour and still feel they're winning because they never lose, it's all a matter of perspective in an open area without clear scoreboards, as opposed to arena matches), but if you think that's the only way, I'd argue you miss not only the point of the game but probably part of the point of life as a whole - always looking for competition in a video game, and a casual one at that, when there's so much more interesting challenges in real life is just wasting time in my opinion.
I think Mac was refering more to his e-peen, if his toon is beaten in a PvP zone... his e-peen dies a little. I can totally sympathize with this. After I get killed a few times in zone (on the very rare occassion that ever happens) My e-peen grows flacid too and mine is huge suN!
In PvP you win or you lose. There's no honor, fairness, dying or living. you can be a good-sportsman and you can be courteous to other PvPers, but those things have little to do with actual PvP.
"onher" and "fareness" are catch phrases of the duelist and arena PvPer. They don't exist in game and who the hell cares if they exist irl? It's a game..get over yourself and get tyransauruswrecked. -

Quote:This is coming from the guy that just said this:We've been over this. This isn't war, it's a game.
Roleplay PVP has already been soundly rejected.
Really? People attacking other players in a PvP zone are bullies? Do you seriously believe that?
The implementation of PvE mouse traps into PvP was a stupid development idea. Sure, it lures PvErs into PvP zones, but it pisses everyone off and puts both PvPers and PvErs off to future PvP encounters. Not sure who's brilliant idea it was in cryptic to bait PvErs into PvP this way, but if paragon studios development team have a chance to change this, it should be. -
Quote:You could even say he'd make a great post-i13 PvPer, eh, eh, eh, COnflict,eh?Your replies to me do very good at reflecting your side of the arguement. Your entire argument boils down to 'I am right because I think I am right'. Ever word you have spoke that has been shot down you choose to ignore and carry on. You have been shot down by cox pvpers. You have been shot down by fps pvpers. You have been shot down by pvers. The fact that you still bother to try to act like you have a leg to stand on shows you have amazing stamina and a really thick head. With that kind of effort and energy imagine if you applied it to actually doing something besides being wrong.

Just because I'm in the zone does not mean I'm there to fight. If you would like to fight, ask me first ("Would you like some pepper? Hot sauce?"), but if you see I'm clearly busy with something else ("This Shivan will make the STF go by much easier..."/"Mmm... Grated cheese... Why do they always put this next to the pepper flakes? God forbid I wasn't looking...") then leave me the Hell alone.
Leaving me alone does not affect your game. I'm not chasing you. I'm not interacting with you. I'm not talking to you.
Attack me, though, and you've crossed the line. There was no point to it. It was uncalled for. It was rude.
This is a game. It is not a comic book. It is not a real world. It is not a war.
This is a game, and we come here to have fun.
If your fun involves finding a player who is clearly not paying attention to you and stabbing them in the back "because you can" then you and I will have problems if we meet in-game.
And this is where the developers (cryptic) dropped the ball with PvP.
A PvP zone is a zone where players should go TO engage other players. Implementing tasks in PvP zones that have little or nothing to do with PvP engagement is ridiculous.
Neither party is wrong. THe PvPers are not in the wrong for wanting to attack other players in a PvP zone; neither are the people there just for temp powers or badges.
The only party in the wrong are the developers. -
Quote:I disagree with this completely. There are plenty of pveers and rpers, me being one of them, who will happily play Counterstrike or Call of Duty or, probably more applicable in this case, the battlegrounds in World of Warcraft, who do not enjoy pvp in CoH.
And I think it goes back to the reasons I said yesterday. The way that pvp is designed in this game renders the other player's character irrelevant to the pveer or rper. There is no advancement of their character's personal story on any level in pvp. The two sides are segregated to the degree that, other than during that small moment of time, the enemy player's character will never be a part of my character's life.
In Counterstrike and Call of Duty, you are playing an avatar. There is no 'story' involved. You will die 30 times during the encounter and kill some people and instantly respawn to go kill someone again if you die. There is no character immersion. In World of Warcraft's battlegrounds, you are trying to accomplish specific objectives within the context of the larger Horde/Alliance conflict.
That is where CoH fails its pvp population.
Until the developers do SOMETHING to make the defeat of an opposing factions player relevant to my character's existence in the slightest, there is no point to me engaging them because my character a) doesn't know who they are, b) has more important things to do, and c) regards them as an annoyance more than anything else.
If they would do something similar to WoW's battlegrounds, where the defeat of the opposing player had some real and definite effect (taking a graveyard, protecting a tower), even if it was only temporary, on the success or failure of the given mission, they might be onto something.
Pveers and RPers are players first and foremost. It has nothing to do with them not wanting to engage in a win/lose proposition. However I think the difference is that they don't regard the fight itself as the win/lose proposition. The fight is only a microcosm of the larger conflict. I think you'd see a lot more participation if the pvp conflicts had some sort of meaning.
I said most. Not all. And I'm refering more to people who refuse to PvP at all.
I agree completely with the rest of your post. I don't PvP competitvely because I am achieving NOTHING outside of being able to stroke my e-peen afterwards. If engaging in PvP meant I was achieving some sort of PvE goal that would reward my faction, my characters progression or SG progression. I would be PvPing quite a bit.
Right now the only incentive I have to attack other players is for the possibility that a PvP IO will drop and that still isn't much of an incentive to PvP cause it really isn't PvP. It's just farming players like I would NPCs for loot. -

Quote:So that being said, what is keeping /rad from being a MM secondary choice?
In answer to Keltic's question; I am what is keeping Rad from being ported to MMs.
The developers refuse to give me rad as a MM secondary because they know I could farm practicly anything with pets that have a 20% damage buff, 173% resistance to everything, +30% recharge time and %50.9 endurance recovery for 120 seconds.
As well as a 300 second rechargable nuke that I can use on my minions. Plus the toggled debuffs. -
Quote:I was thinking more the chance to hold (from purple immob set) and the chance for +recharge procs.
the KB +rech proc no longer works on pet ticks. The +rech now only works upon each activation of the power so it's useless in carrion.
Positron Energy dam proc, the Purple immobolization hold proc and the immobo lethal damage proc are all good choices for procs. I personally 6 slotted creepers, threw ragnarok set into creepers for the global recharge and only the Positron Energy dam proc. -
Quote:I think that's a glitch. But if the Devs made Plant Controls Tree of Life follow the creator, I'd fall in love with the Dev team all over again.I can't be the only one that's actually seen the Tree follow it's creator a short distance. It looks like it disappears underground, tunnels for a while then springs up once the summoner stops moving.
That might just be me though...
P.s. I've seen tree of life follow me up elevators, but i'm pretty sure it's a glitch. -
People engaging in PvE content should never have to engage unwillingly in PvP content. Game designers should never attempt to coax players into PvP zones with badges they need for accolades or powers; if there are such badges or temporary powers that can be attained in PvP zones, there should always be a PvE mission alternative that isn't in a PvP zone.
I don't know what cryptic was thinking with the model they created for PvP in this game. If they even seriously considered what they were implementing or if they were making a half-***** attempt at PvP content just to say they had it.
With that said... Most PvErs and RPers do not like PvP because in PvP there are Winners and there are Losers.
In both PvE and RP there is no forced engagement of another player. There is no fear of losing in a competition to another player; that's why this style of play is attractive to so many and PvP isn't.
I use the zones for farming as I've stated before. I engage PvPers as I would NPCs because my goal isn't to prove my skill in PvP (I'm a horrible PvPer) my goal is to farm them for PvP IOs. I tend to leave badgers and other zone farmers alone if they aren't attacking other players. -
Quote:I've seen PvP. There was a ladder at one point with people who actually PvPed. There was even a small yet existant PvP community on Virtue. No more since i13. What happens in Virtue RV is farming. You can call it PvP; you can also call a cat a dog. What you describe is PvP. If you are fighting other players you are PvPing, regardless what your intent is. Taking advantage of opponents, using heavies and NPC have been part of PvP as long as the Zones have been in the game.
So if that is what is going on in RV on a nightly basis then PvP is alive on Virtue. -
Quote:Trash-talk is to be expected in PvP. It's a viable tactic to try and throw off peoples game. Racial slurs and personal threats are going beyond trash-talk and that's one of the many reasons there is no more PvP community.Little trash talk yeah but there was some serious crap going on out there. Stuff that went beyond the fun trash talk.
People take PvP far too seriously. Why I choose to farm instead of PvP. -
Quote:You could have gotten much more for that recipe. But congrats on selling it.Apocalypse Acc/Dam/Rec which I believe is known as "The really expensive one." Got it in the MoITF attempt last night so I walked away from that TF a very happy camper.
Only problem I see with trading for purples is that purples tend to have varying values based on the rarity of the drop. -
Quote:I approve of this message. It was, and I miss it as well.
Part of me says "I have run PvP Events before, I could do a Bi-Weekly PvP event without too much trouble or effort."
The other part of me says "I have absolutely zero desire to support post I13 PvP, and any time or effort that I would place into building a small casual PvP community on Virtue would only send the message to the data miners that people were in support of the I13 PvP changes."
Generic Villain stood by casual PvP on Virtue for many years, through many changes and was a very talented HC PvP'ers, winning a number of events on Test. When GV gave up on PvP that was a message that resounded deeply with me.
PvP is dead and on Virtue it's..I don't know, what's more dead than dead? decomposing?
The zones are pretty much owned by the zone farmers and zone farmers don't go after other players with the intent to PvP; we go after Players with the intent to farm them for PvP IOs. So ganking and the "liberal" use of heavies, NPCs and turrets is expected.
If you feel the desire to PvP (srsly) Arena is your best bet. Trust me, you won't find serious PvP in zone. You're just going to be farmed (especially in RV). Some still do arena, but there are very few here on Virtue. Your best bet is to move to freedom for serious PvP. -

I don't use it. Or rather I kind of refuse to use it. My experience with walk is in Pocket D. I can't help but laugh to myself, watching people walk in circles around the bar in PD. Not sure whether they are just trying the toggle out or desperately seeking attention from other RPers.
I find the walk to look somewhat whorish (not that it was badly modeled..it was excellently done..I just don't like looking like a skank when I walk.) When I picture Green Scare, I don't picture her walking with such a Sashay, more of a swagger. -
Alright, I'm on a mission to reach 300.0 HP on my dom (from bonuses), 40 HitPoints regeneration per a second (This is with Tree of Life on) 95-98% global recharge and 30.0% Recovery.
I'm not sure whether I can hit these numbers, but trying is half the fun. Money isn't an object..I have plenty of cash to spare.
So, any suggestions on how to meet these goals is greatly appreciated.
My build right now is fairly tight, and i'm currently using ninja run as my main travel power.

I'd really like to have the abbility to teleport stationary pets such as Tree of Life so that we are better able to utilize our summoned pets.
I believe the cost balances the benefit as you are having to give up a pool power and power slot in order to teleport your pet to you.
Anyone else be for or against this? Is it possible as far as coding goes? -
Quote:Tokyo, you may want to read this current thread in relation to your suggestion.
Not really the same thing but thanks for the link. -
Quote:No idea, and you can't turn it off because it seems to have been added to further enforce the ridiculous notion that every fight should end with someone winning.
Recently agreed to a duel with a stalker in arena. Now, i'm a complete arena newb and I knew nothing about sudden death. It was a tie up untill Sudden death and he one shot me. This is a really, really, really dumb feature that needs to be removed or removed. -
Quote:Purple prices rise and fall despite people already having a large store of inf in game. I really don't see this crippling the market in anyway Merits or AE tickets have. The problem is that there are significant long term economic effects caused by never removing enhancements form the game. Basically this would mean that whenever someone upgrades an enhancement they will place the old one on the market to alleviate the cost. Long term this means that the market value of most common/uncommon enhancements drop virtually nothing since most players will simply maintain several sets of them for the use of new alts and then take them out when they either start IO'ing the alt seriously or tire of them. Conversely the IOs that are expensive now (especially purples) will increase in price since people will have a larger store on inf available to spend on them.
-
Quote:Then worst case economy/balance market scenerio is that we have more pre-made set enhancements being sold on the market. Market prices tend to fall as supply increases.Except this wouldn't strictly be a QoL issue. It's a serious economy/balance issue.
As for when he said it, if it wasn't post IOs, it was likely close enough before they were released that he knew of their looming existence. I honestly can't say for sure though, since my memory of the I7-I9 period has grown hazy.
