Quote:No. We aren't asking for 2+ years of villain only content...we're asking for anything that isn't attached with blue-side strings. I want to be villainous, not a hero-side lackey if I want to do anything other than the content CoV basically came with. CoV severely needs new sfs to round things out, and we need more arcs, period. The arcs are better written, which stretches out the replay value a bit more than blue side, but there is only so many times you can replay any arc before it gets boring.Heroes only have more content because CoH was developed exclusively for a number of years. CoV hasn't always been around so the disparity between the sides is simply an artifact of the difference in development time. More villain only content (without any commensurate hero only content) would simply mean that blueside players (which are a majority of the player base) don't get any attention simply because their game has been around for longer, which isn't a good reason to do anything at all. They'd do much better sticking with their current strategy of releasing equivalent amounts of content for each side rather than attempting to give CoV 2+ years of specific focus in order to try to balance out the content disparity.
And with releasing equivalent amounts of content each time, CoV will always and forever be behind in terms of content. Once again...we're not looking for a couple years of just villain things, but even just a couple bones tossed over would be nice. -
Quote:Right now Infinity's population is down...and we've always been a bit of an odd server. We're helpful enough, sorta, and we're active enough, I guess, but we aren't all that community-minded.I'll ditto Slax. I raid on Virtue and once you go Virt, you don't go back (for raiding at least). 30ish minute raids, once Hami blooms, if someone has a Bio nuke (or 2 or 4). Heck, they did a 20 man raid this weekend (took a while).
Justice is also very efficient.
I don't know what it is about Infinity. If a raid comes up, I'll lend a hand if I can though. I'd love to see it come back, blue or red, though I have a feeling a redside raid may never happen again.
We also tend to have real life stuff going on a lot more than when I hang out on other servers. Maybe it's just me, but I never have half as many people going afk for babies, jobs or other random real life situations when I go onto Pinnacle, Virtue or even Freedumb.
We also seem to be more about the small micro-communities. Because I know when I'm in a couple active channels or sgs, I can get pretty much nonstop teaming, but otherwise it's a crapshoot (usually for the worse) if I'll even get a single tell or blind invite for a couple hours of play. -
Quote:This is what worries me, to be honest. And the fact that evidently the marketing team hasn't bothered to update the GR website for months at a time. I didn't even know we had a website until this thread.Again, more than doubling the staff, putting so much time and money into a new boxed expansion and you can't give any of the features that are coming apart from the graphics upgrade? You can't release enough info to make a small designer diary on a semi regular basis? It's almost made me afraid that there isn't much more coming in GR to get excited about. Is everything that's being done in GR so huge and game changing that there are no features you can talk about without ruining everything? Not even QoL features that may be going in?
Either GR really isn't going to be all that great, and I can wait til it's on the clearance racks for the value I'll be getting out of it...
Or I could probably walk into the marketing department and within days do more than they have in years. I don't have any marketing or advertising degrees, but I have helped multiple companies I work for generate buzz for their business. It's not any different, just a different product. You want the buzz and hype to happen before you have the product, so then when the product hits you have people lining up to buy it.
It's also pathetic that us players are the best publicity the game gets, if you think about it. I wandered around the CO boards for a couple days...and there are people in the only other superhero game on the market who haven't heard of us. Not joking, and kinda wish I was.
If they're worried about leaking too much, start a Twitter account for GR updates. Then they'd have a 140 character limit to adhere to and not risk omguber breakthroughs. -
I wouldn't mind helping out on one raid. But it'd pretty much be a one shot deal for me...the set up time is just something I can't do often, if ever, due to real life constraints. And I agree, Infinity for the most part is decent players, it's really the lazy factor.
But I never participated in old Hami...my main was a stormy and I didn't feel like sitting on my hands for hours to do the one thing I was allowed to do, which, if I remember correctly, either O2 Boost someone until my eyes bled or hit Hami once for the damage credit.
But I'll give the new raid a shot if you decide to try it again on Infinity, if you can drum up enough interest. I'm easy enough to train if it involves a) corruptors/defenders/controllers or b) ranged stuff and c) it's on a day I can attend. -
Quote:I wish you best of luck but seriously think your best shot is to move a couple toons to Freedumb or possibly Justice or Virtue for a Hami Raid.
This. Well, given how star-phobic and laz--I mean laid back Infinity tends to be, it could be we just haven't gotten off our tushies to do one.
...most likely what Slax said though.
Also, grats on the teacup human! -
Quote:Basically...my sub doesn't mean anything, really. I know that. But new customers would be awesome. I don't see us getting many new customers with the complete lack of advertisement or hype this game tends to get. And I realize most people operate with short attention spans for purchases, but it doesn't have to be all or nothing, and there's nothing saying that they can't do marketing/ads in waves. Why not do a small marketing splash now to let people know CoX exists and is improving on an already solid base, and then a big push a month or so before GR hits shelves?I'd certainly like to see more tidbits too, but this doesn't seem to be a very good reason from NCSoft's point of view. Why should they care when you decide to buy it, as long as you do decide to buy it? It's not even for sale yet. If they told you enough now to get you excited enough to buy it... what good would that be? You can't buy it. By the time it does hit the shelves, in three months or six months or whatever, your excitement will have faded away and you might not buy it after all.
Better to wait until there is something you can do with that excitement before trying to get anyone excited.
And I like researching things before I buy them. I'm also used to planning ahead to what movies I want to see sometimes years before they hit theatres. I don't see why any game purchase is special or different...but I'm pretty sure I'm just weird like that. ^.^ -
The '6 years old' argument holds no water considering a couple easy facts. First of all...I hear more about UO than I do CoX when reading about gaming things. It's still active from 1997. At this point, they are in a holding pattern when it comes to advertising for new players, etc, but they're still active. I hear about EVE all the time as well, and it came out in 2003. Those are two examples. Ten bucks I'd find more if I did more then just think of things off the top of my head. I think CoX is shooting itself in the foot just pretending that games don't have lifespans past a couple years.
Seriously, I have hardcore gamer friends who would have never heard of CoX if they hadn't known I played some silly little game no one has ever heard of. When they ask what games I'm playing, if I include CoX their response without fail is "Wait, that's still around? REALLY?" Since I've been playing since the release year, I've heard this a lot. I'm sick of it and find it ridiculous they still haven't heard of it other than from me.
I just don't comprehend what in the world the marketing department is doing with their resources. The only ad campaign I have seen was a couple splash pages in some comic books I picked up a couple years ago.
Does the marketing department really think that's all the advertisement the game needs? Clearance sales and a couple comics and a couple web ads?
Though I am wondering how much is marketing fail and how much is advertising fail...or at the two departments merged at NCSoft? As in, the marketing department also handles ads and hyping up the game, rather than outsourcing to their ad buddies.
To the whole GR no info thing: I took a break recently for 3+ months from the game. The only info I had to catch up on when I got back was 'Ultra Mode'. Which I only found out about because my fiance peeked at the forums and found HeroCon reveal info. My interest has actually been rapidly decreasing in GR. I'm sure it'll be cool when it comes out, and my fiance and I will probably buy one copy when it hits, but we're debating wasting our money past that, because at this point we're getting it just for pistols, which are cool, but not worth money we could be spending elsewhere.
I'm not saying that they need to tell me every single thing that is included in GR, but tidbits occasionally would be nice. -

I'm guessing because this time there are 'real' prizes we won't get the plethora of categories we normally do in these things...that being said, my question is, is the self-selected committee the one who is going to decide both the categories and nominees, or just the categories, ask for nominees, and then vote from there?
It's just hard to tell from the first (or following posts) the exact layout of the contest-y type thing. Jiamabob.
Also, if you need a memo writer, I volunteer. I'm all about the useless jobs. -

Like Eran, I'm late to the party, but...
Thanks ya'll. May your losses be few, friends be many, and enemies stay far away from your loved ones. -

Hey guys--
Sorry for dropping off the map. Life was busy, yadda yadda, you all know the song and dance. That being said, I might try to make it this week if ya'll will have a slot open on a strike force team. Mebbeh. -
Awww. Bye, bye Slax.

Being awesome.
With his hammer.

dUmb is srs bznz. You should feel ashamed of yourself! The game is our lifeblood and ye shall not slander it!

On topic: I dislike the WoW-esque feeling of the game. I did adore the different stances and how detailed you could make color selection and the bird tails. /want beast stance and hawk tail nao -
As others have said, this is a heavily instanced game. When using /search (or /sea if you're feeling lazy...), enter close to your level range and hit 'search' button. This will show more than just people in your immediate area. Greys are on a team, whites are not. There's more colors, but those are the two basics. Search also shows you their location...it helps to see just how many people are in missions. There's a strong rumor persisting that Castle let it drop that sub numbers are really much healthier than various powers expected (I think over 100k at least).
And to add to the ghost town impersonation, there are people who /hide from search functions, so you won't see them in game unless they send you a tell or you're standing next to them. And Infinity is a server with a slight soloing bent, compared to, say, Virtue. We team plenty, just not as much as you'd expect with a relatively large server population.
That being said, feel free to global friend me if you want to team, or chat in game, or have questions about the game. @Tiny Bolt and @Tinier Bolt.
Global channels are also helpful--it's where quite a few people find teams. I've heard rumors of finding teams on channels like Infinity Hamidon, but I'm not personally in that channel, so I don't know. AE Anonymous' chatter can be really frakkin annoying, but it is a highly useful channel to find a team in...but you probably want to put it in a seperate tab so you aren't swamped with chatter from it. If you want badge missions and tfs, Infinity Badges and Inf Badge Seeker are great. -
I won't make it tonight, but have fun y'all!
I'll run the start of everything during the week so I'm up to date next week. -
AE Anon kinda goes in waves if it's active redside. I play mostly redside if given the chance, and I do see quite a few people online. I...really don't know what to say. I either solo, play with friends, get an invite to a team, or start one myself. I guess you can always try and prod me in game, though that has varied success, seeing as quite a few times I'm just poking in on my way to something else.
But you can try! Global is same as forum handle, and secondary account is @Tinier Bolt. -
Quote:The guy you're quoting plays on Freedom.I admit I haven't played for very long for the past month or so, but when I was playing last month, Champion didn't seem very empty...and I got into full teams at 5 am on more than one occasion. Which servers are empty?
And as to PCGamer...I used to read it when my brother had a subscription. I never really understood where most of their reviews came from--they always seemed a bit...wonky. I'm willing to bet the person mentioning the money angle (CO paid for an ad, they got a 3 page article) is on the right track. Makes sense, really. Newspapers do so many human interest stories because it's a guaranteed sale. It'd be ten kinds of stupid to a glowing article on CO's main competition when CO is sure money for them (both in CO fans picking it up for the article and future ad space). -
Honestly as a 'fun' movie, a zombie apocalypse but with super powered beings would be fun, and one I may actually go see.
For a serious movie, I'm with the 'new hero' camp. It would be interesting to see the structure of CoH from a new hero's perspective. And we come in contact with the Freedom Phalanx quite a bit, but as the game stands now...we do more than they do for everyday crime fighting. It makes more sense to have a new hero who is actually hitting the streets everyday. It'd be an Everyman play, but with super heroes.
If we went with Epic Film, I'd go with Hero 1's story. It gets me in the gut everytime. Hell, don't make it a double feature, and have him die halfway through, then have a group of heroes run the LGTF for the second half of the movie, so for the climatic scene you can Hero 1 being taken down for his own good. Tear jerker, semi-twist, traditional epic tale, it'd be a great story to consolidate into 3 hours or less, and you can include the blankity-blank Freedom Phalanx without getting bogged down in 'here is generic epic hero team that can beat anything together. Hurrah.' You have many alien fights, lots of fun effects, and can have both the main heroes (first half during the set up for sacrifice of Omega Team) and then newcomers (second half--perhaps the idea of new heroes coming to pick up the mantle of the big dogs). -
Hey, Slax, I know you're mostly in Aion and RL, flying around and doing things like chores...
...why don't I have an official dUmb title? Or is that only a first/second gen dUmb thingy?
Hmmm?
