I would guess that each of us, without exception*, has a favorite axe to grind and hopes it gets more attention with a larger dev team.
*OK, maybe not EvilGeko. -

They're moving from Los Gatos to Mountain View. For some of them, the commute is getting shorter. -

City of Heroes 2?

I'm hoping "Sequels" in the same vein that CoV could be considered a sequel to CoH: "Expansalones" that can be played independently or combined with one or more of the existing titles to increase the scope of the game as a whole. -

How do I get on CoH?
I have a paid CoV account, but whenever I use the CoH Updater, and choose a server, it just takes me into CoV..

Were I them (and I'm not), I'd leave the single-code subscribers (CoH or CoV) with 8 character slots per server, and then sell additional slots (like NCSoft does for Guild Wars). If they charge $5 per extra slot, then having both game codes is worth $20 if you stick to one server as many do. Last I actually saw a standalone CoH or Cov, it was $19.99. Sounds about right to me.
If you play on all the servers, then it's worth $220! -

Huh. Whoa. Deja vu.

I've been in business units involved in acquisitions before, both as the acquirer and as the acquired. This could go very well for us as subscribers, very poorly, or unnoticeably. Judging by statements to effect of "we've got big plans" I don't think it will be unnoticeably.
I'm leaning toward hope over despair. In my experience, being acquired by another business unit that has in the past been intimately involved in your major efforts, if not your day-to-day operations, means the acquirer is coming into the deal with their eyes open and few or no misconceptions. When said acquirer also brings deeper pockets than yours and Ideas, then exciting times are almost certainly ahead. -

[...] that earthquake scared the SNOT out of me.
[/ QUOTE ]
Having been a Californian stationed at a California post in the Army, when we got hit with a 6.7, I barely bothered to get out bed after opening one eye to gauge how much the pictures on the wall were rattling. But get up I did to grab a cup of coffee. When the (much lighter) aftershock hit, I happened to glance out the window maybe 2 seconds later to see a sergeant I knew come bolting out of his quarters like he was on fire. Poor guy was from nice stable New Jersey and was reduced to hyperventilating in the exact center of the parking lot. I thought about making something up about large asphalt pads over soft soil being the worst place to be in an earthquake, but he was scared enough already. -

I am on a panel discussing the future of MMOs at 6pm on Saturday in Theater A.
[/ QUOTE ]
Anyone know if a transcript of this panel was posted anywhere? -
I've discovered that my favorite PvP is the open brawl with at least 20 members of each faction and all or most of the ATs represented. It seems harder to take any of it personally, and each defeat just makes me more eager to rush back from the hospital and get my licks in before the brawl peters out.
Least favorite? Gank squads targetting soloists. Strikes me as the coward's way. -
-
Looks like Saturday will be my day. Too bad the Future of MMOs panel conflicts with the NCSoft Meet & Greet. Choices choices...

It would be so much more effective if you ignore someone's global account, and it ignores all their characters without clogging up your normal /ignore list.

I'm gonna try to try to make it up to Seattle for one day, but haven't decided which yet. Positron's presence may sway me to Saturday, but I'm not a "Ooh Ooh Gotta Meet The Celebrity" person.
See you if I see you. -
The problem is that the new GtG post was copied from the original before editing, so its internal links point to posts that no longer exist. Going to take some serious link editing to fix all of that.

It's been my experience that you can't get the jet pack from the Atlas bank job until you've leveled and trained to level 6 (not 5). I remember having to do it 3 times on one character before he got the jetpack.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hm...really? I thought it was level 5. Does anyone out there know for sure whether it's level 5 or 6?
[/ QUOTE ]
You can get the Raptor Pack at 5th level. The first 2 things I do on a new lowbie hero at the sound of the ding to 5 is head for the Hollows to tell Wincott to go play in traffic and then hit Kings for 3 quick scanner missions and a safeguard. I've never had trouble getting the temp fly power at 5th level. -

Back in college, the Gamers' Guild used to hit the all night diner after our Friday night meet, in groups ranging in size from five to thirty. The discussions were frequently stuff that would get us a nice Homeland Security surveillance team nowadays, including but not limited to:
* The best way to distribute an aerosol poison using only Renaissance technology.
* Decomposition stages of necrotic tissues and the medical hazards thereof.
* Tactical planning to circumvent Imperium nuclear dampers so we could set off a nuke to destroy an Ancient doomsday weapon.
* Placement of undead-infested graveyards as defense-in-depth vs invasion.
* Longbowman training techniques, with vehement disdain from the crossbow enthusiasts.
* Comparisons of different sorts of undead creatures and their suitability for various military incursions. (Can you tell we had necromancy issues?)
* Sculpting the Fiesta Nachos into a model of an abdominal exit wound. (Personal favorite) -

I'm trying to decide on what's the best build for a blaster. Any ideas? Because iv heard losts of things...
[/ QUOTE ]
You've heard lots of things, because there are lots of good fun builds out there. We really need to know more about your preferred playstyle before we can be a lot of help.
Here are some blaster sets I've enjoyed for different playstyles:
Fire/Energy: A straight-forward DPS-oriented blaster with strong blapper tendencies. The blast sets usually have a secondary effect on the attacks, and Fire/ gets a DoT for MORE damage./Energy as a secondary gets you Build Up early and it's a real boon, letting you one-shot minions at the lower levels. /Energy also adds great melee attacks, including the dreaded Total Focus.
Electric/Fire: I've only played this one to 12th level, but so far it's a gross AoE blapper. Electric/ gets 2 early AoE attacks, and /Fire adds plenty more, including an Endurance-mitigation tool which you will NEED. You will die a lot due to the aggro of an entire spawn of almost dead enemies until you learn what you can and can't do (and re-learn again at every new level), but you will also make a lot of teams go DAAAAAMMN!
Electric/Devices: A good stand-off blaster with some very useful tools in the secondary. No Build Up, but Targeting Drone + Aim + Zapp = dead minion or VERY hurt LT. Slot for EndRed on Targeting Drone and Cloaking Device and never turn them off.
Ice/Ice: Poorly-resisted damage type with a solid single-target attack chain, up to 3 holds (1 of them kinda sucks), and some more controller-ish powers. Played right, it's a very safe blaster IMO.
There are as many playstyles as there are players, but only 35 different blaster set combos. Read some guides and go try them out. -

[...] performance in this game has many dimensions of measurement, but not everyone values every axis equally.

Well said. -
If we're talking about a system that I would make as the game designer, my answer will be little more complex than the question, but not by much.
I think Max Def and Max ToHit should have 2 separate values each: Sustainable and Spike. Sustainable would be levels attainable by toggles and long-duration (maybe perma-able) clicks. Spike would be levels attainable with shorter duration clicks (5-15 seconds for Max ToHit, 30-90 seconds for Max Def) that can't be made perma.
With that in mind, what I'd like to seein PvP will resemble several other posters' desires.
Base ToHit v Base Def
50/50 hit/miss
Max Sustainable ToHit v Base Def
85/15 hit/miss
Max Spike ToHit v Base Def
95/05 hit/miss
Base ToHit v Max Sustainable Def
15/85 hit/miss
Max Sustainable ToHit v Max Sustainable Def
50/50 hit/miss
Max Spike ToHit vs Max Sustainable Def
75/25 hit/miss
Base ToHit v Max Spike Def
05/95 hit/miss
Max Sustainable ToHit v Max Spike Def
25/75 hit/miss
Max Spike ToHit v Max Spike Def
50/50 hit/miss
Edited to use the same terminology as everyone else. -
I have enjoyed PvP on occassion, but since I'm usually solo, I'm easy to team-gank. That gets boring fast, so I usually don't stay long.
I also prefer to optimize my toons for PvE or build around a concept, so I end up a little (or more than a little) gimped in PvP.
Hate: No.
Love: No.
Occasionally enjoy: Yes. -
End Reds definitely reduce the End required to summon Jack.
My Ice/Storm Controller has Jack slotted for End and Rech for frequent repositioning via re-summon. I tried to do without the End Red, but it's a real life saver with my toggles running.
