Synapse has officially said that he's taking the crash out of Rune of Protection, so that won't be an issue for much longer.
It'll probably not be the best power for Melee types (who already have their own panic buttons), but the ability to give squishier classes a panic button (or, if you tend to go out of your way for Demonic/Archmage, a second panic button) is alone a pretty good deal.
Really, it has a little something for everyone (two ranged attacks - one with a new mechanism, a teammate buff, a panic button self-buff, and a transportation power). What's not to like? I'll probably be picking this up on the day of release.
(If there's five of them, one for each origin, and if they're priced at 400 PP each, I'll probably grab them all. If they're 800 each, I'll probably grab only two, but Sorcery will be one of those two) -
If you want another PoV...
I much prefer Brutes to Scrappers primarily for Pokevoke and the Taunt Auras in the secondaries, not because of the numbers. In other words, my problem with Scrappers is not that they do X more (or less) damage or have X less (or more) defense or anything of the sort, it's that enemies run away from them, and I have to either run up and down the map chasing them down (hoping I don't drag even more aggro to me in the process) or patiently wait for them to come back (and hope they haven't regenned half their health by the time they do). -
Quote:And the problem is that they did a half-***** job of updating that metastory. The idea behind SSA1 was to update the game world and meta-story - it wasn't meant to be a kill Washington/Cleopatra kind of "what if" situation - it was done in the same way as the removal of old Galaxy City and old Dark Astoria and the defeat of the loyalists.
Those are all basic building blocks for the foundaion of the meta-story - there's no "maybe" about any of these major events, because without them, writing the meta-story becomes impossible.
When your newly-created character first steps into Atlas Park or Mercy, Statesman and Psyche are already dead, and have been for quite a while. That means that SSA1 already happened, which means that Penny Yin is an adult member of the Freedom Phlanax, and Darrin Wade is a "guest" at Vanguard.
Then you meet Penny as a contact, and she's a teenager. Which means you're running missions for her literally years before Statesman and Psyche died. And yet they're still dead. Somehow.
Or if you're Redside (hypothetically, I know you're never redside), there's Darrin, still standing in place and dreaming his small dreams, and he hasn't even started plotting to kill anyone. Yet Statesman and Psyche are still dead. Somehow.
So the problem is not that they removed Statesman and Psyche from the game world, the problem is that it's the only change they made, even though other things also need to be changed to make the whole thing make sense. -
Skeletor, despite his huge muscular appearance, isn't actually very "Brutey." His powers are ill-defined, but powers he's been seen using tend to fall more along the lines of various Corruptor, Controller, and/or Dominator powersets than a Brute (other than a few early appearances, where he used a sword), so I wouldn't worry on that front.
But "Skull with a hood" doesn't automatically mean Skeletor, either. He's got a bunch of identifiable bits - the blue skin the bone design on his chestpiece, his almost Roman-style "skirt", and his clawed feet - that aren't just covered by "Skull with a hood", so I wouldn't worry on that front, either.
In short - make the rest of him different enough, and he'll probably be okay. -
Quote:By your numbers, you claim that every single character with every powerset other than Super strength, swords (which is not a power) and guns (which is not a power) represents a grand total of 3% of the total comic book characters in existence.super strength covers 90% of super heroes
guns covers 4%
sword covers 3%
everything else is maybe 5 characters per powerset
That also means that you are saying there are literally thirty super-strength characters for each character who doesn't have super-strength, guns, or swords.
So if I name, say, Cyclops, Storm, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Flash, Black Lightning, and three-quarters of the Fantastic Four (minus the Thing), you can name literally 270 super-strength characters?
.. or perhaps were you engaging in a weeeeeee bit of hyperbole? -
Quote:The problem with that idea is that power armor is, by virtue of being "armor", defensive as well as offensive. Your typical Power Armor guy can take it as well as dish it out, and that's not something you can easily simulate (or simulate at all) with a Blaster, the squishiest of the squishies.Powered Armor Suits are too generic and easy to emulate (costume creator + blast set = voila!... whatever power armor suits your fancy).
Quote:In regards to the much vaunted Blast/Armor AT, you realize that for balance purposes, the blasts and armor would have to be so weak that you'd be better suited just getting a Corruptor some defense bonuses and calling it a day? I realize that wouldn't give you shoulder-mounted rockets or wrist lasers, but ah well. -
Though, it occurs to me... if you're returning to the game, your old account (if you still remember the login and password) should have Tier 2 (at the very least, depending on how long you played) unlocked.
-
For the power effects, you can right-click on the appropriate square in the Create tab of the Incarnate, and see what their powers actually are. You don't have to have the Lore slot unlocked or even be level 50 to check them.
-
Quote:It's just confusing because Statesman and Psyche are dead and gone from the second you step out of the Tutorial (and apparently have been for quite a while), but Penelope Yin is still a teenager fifteen levels "later" (which means you're at a point in time literally years before Statesman and Psyche died), and over on Redside, Darrin Wade has yet to even start his scheme to kill Statesman when you meet him in your 20's.They have been taken out of the Paragon City PRESENT. They still exist in the PAST, and can still be seen via time travel (in mender Mender Silos' arc for example).
Simply removing Statesman and Psyche from the game's "present" has started a domino effect of temporal anomalies (from the players' PoV, at least, if not the characters') that's played havoc with the game's already-shaky timeline. -
Hm, if those Wikia powers are correct... then, yeah, I want these even more now. (The T5 in each seems a little powerful, but I suppose that's balanced by having to take two other powers to get to it, none of which are extraordinary)
The only question is whether we'll have to buy each power pool separately, or get them all as a Power Pool Pack. (And I'm sure that question will be answered in due time) -
I'm planning on buying them when they come out. I'm saving my points for them, in fact.
I mean, I like the concept behind many of the new powersets (particularly Titan Weapons, Beast Mastery, Water Blast, and possibly Bio Armor), but I've already got four or five characters I'm leveling (including one I did buy a powerset for, my Staff/Dark Brute) and four I'm getting Incarnate powers for (including my newly-50'd Mastermind), so a new power pool that I can use with any of those existing characters is much more interesting to me right now.
(It's why I'm so impatient that they almost seem to be saving information on the new pool or pools for last) -
Quote:My mistake, I meant that to read "We were working on ideas for a new AT, and got pretty far in development, but it ultimately didn't work out." or along those lines. That is the sort of thing that would be unambiguous. That's even vaguer and less informative.
The "ideas that where being worked on" could be taken to be anything at all.
And although I said they wouldn't have to name names, that would make things even less ambiguous if they did. "We were working on ideas for a new AT we were going to call the Hamburglar (or "Rhymalist" if you like), but even though we put all the powers in, we couldn't get the cheese to melt over the bun, so we had to abandon it." They could play it off as both announcing it and cancelling it in a single sentence.
Zero ambiguity, zero cause for speculation.
Quote:"We are not working on any new ATs" is 100% specific, with no room for ambiguity unless you work really hard at self-delusion.
Let me put it this way:
Say you drive by an empty lot every now and then. One day, you notice that the guy who owns the empty lot and a bunch of construction workers on the land, all working on a building that's looking nearly complete. You can't stop and talk to them then for some reason, so you hurry on.
A few weeks later, you're driving by the lot again, and there's a 20' tall fence around the property, so you can't see the building anymore. You bump into the lot owner and ask him about the building and the fence. And he answers "Let me be brutally honest: I'm not building anything on my property."
And that's the only answer you get. You ask "But what about the construction I saw?" or "But then what's behind the fence?", but he refuses to answer that, or even acknowledge that you've asked any further questions.
Would you consider that answer 100% unambiguous? Or would you note the oddly-specific wording and lack of further answers (combined with you seeing him building something with your own two eyes) and go "Hm, something is weird here"?
Well, I'm going "Hm, something is weird here." So are other people. (Players who have been in the game much longer than I have and know Devspeak pretty well. Several in this thread alone, if you care to look)
Especially since the Devs (and Zwill in particular) are usually quite happy to talk about abandoned ideas and failed developments, so this seems like Marketing-speak (followed by Marketing-imposed silence) rather than an actual denial.
I'm afraid I may have put Zwill on a spot here, and I didn't intend to. This isn't actually directed at the Community team, or Devs, or at Marketing, or at the company at all.
I'm just explaining (in more detail than I'd originally intended, but apparently short explanations don't work) why there is still some cause for further speculation here, despite the denial. -
The same way that Robotics Mastermind's Drones drop from the sky (inside a cave), or Thugs Mastermind's Enforcers climb out of a manhole (inside a cave).
In other words, "Repeat to yourself 'it's just a game, I should really just relax'."
Mercs does need some help, particularly in their lack of defenses and decent mitigation. (And I definitely agree with renaming it to "Soldiers", because a Mercenary could literally be anything)
As for actual new sets... I'm all for Pirates, with Swabbies (armed with Cutlasses and weak pistols) as the T1, a Boatswain (with mediocre attacks but rope-related holds and immobilizes) and a Gunner (with pistols and a variant of Grant Cover - i.e., they're providing cover fire for the Swabbies) as T2, and the First Mate (Leadership toggles, and powerful pistol attacks) as T3. The MM himself would be the Captain, of course.
I can even see the appeal of a Clown set. Or, possibly a little more generically, Circus Performers. Clowns for T1, Acrobats for T2, and a Strong Man for T3. Possibly a Lion and Lion Tamer combo for T2, but that may be stepping on Beast's toes. The Mastermind himself would be the Ringmaster, with sonic attacks delivered through a megaphone.
I like the idea of Apes thematically (say, T1 Chimps, T2 Orangutans, T3 Gorilla), but I can't really think of what powers they'd have (other than generic Super Strength attacks for the Gorilla), and it'd probably require a new skeleton. -
Quote:Sure you can. Just say, as I said, "We were trying out a few ideas, but they didn't work out." There, simple enough. You don't have to name AT names, or even directly acknowledge the leaks, just say they were working on something behind-the-scenes which they have since abandoned. Otherwise, instead of shutting it down, you just get more speculation. What kind of speculation, you may ask?Well, expecting a new AT called Primalist and never getting it is a punishment. So yes.
Officially, Primalist never existed. You cannot definitively state that something that never existed has been cancelled. The closest you can get is definitively stating that no new ATs are being worked on.
Exactly. -
Quote:This, with the sole exception of the Summer Blockbuster event. I only got into those by just queueing randomly while I ran missions. (And even that was not a constant thing)When the LFG feature was first added, I was so excited! I thought finally! I could run TFs and Trials without having to go through the hassle of team-forming and broadcasting. It would be like most conventional multiplayer games where I just ask the computer to do it, and it puts me on a "server" that's right for me. All I had to do when I wanted to run one was queue and wait. And now I can even do it from instances! Woo-hoo!
Except no-one ever uses it. I'm not "waiting" when I queue, I'm still running missions, but in a five-hour session of gaming, the queue never once kicked in, yet I saw numerous Trials form over global channels. I've tried this intermittently since, but it never happens. I have, thus far, never, ever, EVER been able to join anything by queueing up for it alone. The system that could have gotten even me to team frequently simply sees no use at all.
Quote:Nothing odd about people not wanting to run an awful trial. -
"Synchronized Chaos" alone made me laugh.
-
Well, it's official. We're in The Future. (We're just in The Future with giant robots rather than jetpacks)
-
No, it's ambiguous because it doesn't acknowledge the powers that were seen on beta.
Saying "We are not working on a new AT" by itself is not ambiguous. But it becomes ambiguous when coupled with the known existence of two full powersets that explicitly reference a new AT.
I'm not sure how much more clearly I can explain this without running afoul of the moderators. I could spell it out the source of the ambiguity more specifically in PMs, if you like. -
-
It was funny when I read it. It was even funnier to open Youtube and sing along.
.... where's the darn Like button? -
Then why can't he just say "We were working on something, but it didn't work out"?
I am neither disappointed, nor do I have anything to "get over". It's curiosity and speculation, not some sort of deep emotional trauma. -
Were the characters there during your short stint as a free player, before you re-subscribed? If they weren't there at all, I'm thinking the most likely scenario is that you created a new account without intending to.
Bear in mind that you can have several "sub-accounts" under each Master Account. When the game was still subscription-only and the free portion was limited to a 7-day trial, I created literally 10 trial accounts under a single Master Account (which are still there). All of them are considered separate, and would have to be subscribed separately. You may have inadvertently done something like that.
So log into the main Account Management site, and check the right-hand side, under Game Accounts, and see how many City of Heroes accounts you have under that single Master Account, and, if there's more than one, whether you subscribed the wrong one. -
But EATs are just a subset of ATs. Excluding the latter also excludes the former.
Using "No new Archetypes at all" to mean "no new regular Archetypes, but here's a new epic Archetype" is like saying "We are not building any new houses. No houses at all. None"... then showing off a new brick house and adding "I meant no new houses made of wood or stone."
If that really is what he meant, then twisting the language like that is about as far from "brutal honesty" as you can get.
As much as I do feel there's something screwy somewhere, I don't think Zwill's the type of guy to do that. -
Well, what Zwill said on the subject of a new AT was, "I am being brutally honest. We are not working on any new ATs." (That's from memory, so it may be a little off, but that's the gist of it)
Which... I don't know. "We were trying a new AT, but it didn't work out" seems more direct if it was actually canceled, leading me to think something is up, but I'm sure we'll find out in due time.
Anyway... um... yeah. Other than those, there's at least one more leaked melee set that hasn't been announced (which, to be safe, I won't name). There's also the Sorcery Power Pool (plus at least one other PP suggesting a Natural pool, with three others for the other three origins on top of those two suspected but not actually discovered, even unofficially), though that's not a full powerset.
(I'm actually the most excited about Sorcery, since I can add that to my existing characters rather than having to start another one. I'm not done with my Staff Brute yet!) -
I think AT access depends on when you made them. If they were unlocked by getting to level 20 before Freedom, you may be able to keep them. Check /mypurchases and see whether they're listed there.
