It might be rather intrusive on some sets though. Particularly ToHit Buff/Debuff sets, Acc, and possibly Defense sets. However, Since I almost never use sets, it won't be any sorta problem that I can imagine. -

I think I just figured out what you did there! It is FANTASTICALLY ingenious. I was posting above about how impossible it was, but I was thinking "inside the box" or circle, as it were. It was the Numina that clued me into the process that you used. The funny thing is, I had almost figured that out after I posted my over-long "it can't be done" post.
So glad you proved me wrong! Instant download for me.
(However I think people who make a good use of Set IOs will be disappointed with what you had to do to make this work.) -

The kids in school where pretty brutal to me when I was growing up. One of my earliest memories is being teased one day when I went up to the blackboard to do a math problem. It musta been about 3rd grade? At any rate, I was eventually placed in a different school, but that didn't really help. Most kids don't really start to feel different until puberty hits, but for me, it was much earlier than that. You see, I am a mutant, and as a result I looked somewhat different from my peers. My skin has a distinct silvery color to it... and as such, I kinda stood out.
Between school offices, therapists, and doctor's visits, I felt like I was never home. The doctors thought I might have some sort of skin disorder. I've been rubbed with every cream you can think of. But what most of them hit on, was that it must be argyria. So my home was searched, my diet inspected, my parents questioned and so on, to determine how a boy of about 6 is getting into the quantities of silver that would do this. In retrospect, you'd think living in a city full of superhumans would have made the answer obvious. But, with no history of that kind of thing in my family, and some greed on the parts of the doctors, it was never mentioned. No silver was ever found in my body or my home.
As you might imagine, I spent a good deal of time in the principal's office as well. I got in a number of fights due to the many kids taunting me. And older brother wasn't always around to save me; I think he feels guilty about that.
But, as time went on, I got a thick skin (no pun intended) about things, and let things slide. I got a lot more easy going, and actually embraced one of my nicknames (that was supposed to be hurtful): Silver. Some chemistry nerd eventually heralded me being called A.G. (aka Ag, the chemical symbol... I haven't the foggiest how that one stuck, but kids are weird). Things went... relatively smoothly. That is until I started puberty.
I thought things had been weird before? That was nothing. There were a lot more hospital visits on the horizon for me. I started having incredibly strong itching sensations all over my body and portions of my skin would get really hard and uncomfortable. All of this would fade, but in the mean time the doctors tried valiantly to figure out what was wrong. There was one day when the itching and discomfort was almost unbearable, I stayed home from class for most of a week! I went to the store one evening when the symptoms seemed to have faded, and finally figured out what was "wrong" with me. That particular evening the corner store I went to for some snacks was being held up by some whackjob with a gun. I guess I didn't listen to him well enough, and he shot me. *pa-TWANG* The bullet simply riccochetted off my forearm! Most of my body was suddenly covered in a hard metallic substance that, apparently, was bullet-proof.
I knew for sure now that I was a mutant. I stopped shaking and punched the guy out, and ran outta that store and back to my house so fast that I didn't even realize I had left by the time I got home. I later found out that the crook got arrested and there had been no casualties in the robbery attempt. At that moment, my destiny was clear: I had to learn how to use my abilities and help other people. I mean, they didn't call it "City of Heroes" for nothing.
My brother never really understood why I wanted to put myself at risk. He looked at my ability as some sort of curse, something to overcome, not embrace. But, he was busy with placement tests, and then college admissions and term papers, and business. Always marketability and stocks and bonds and investments and blah, blah, BLAH. Though, I knew that he cared about me. After my parents died, he was all I had. He took me to countless appointments, he helped me with the bullies and the homework from school, he tried really hard. But in the end, I feel like I was holding him back.
And so it is even today. I just found out that he is enrolled in the same Special Force that I am. I guess he just recently developped powers. I guess it goes to show that mutation is a mysterious thing. He never showed any signs... not ever. Which, is a bit odd. But as one of the GIFT personnel told me: "everyone develops their abilities according to their unique genetic code and specific mutations." There is no blueprint for how it will go. And so, I guess we will serve together in this organization. I just hope the other teammembers are capable and I don't have to lead them anywhere. I don't know that I am ready for that. I just am not that confident in my abilities. -

The problem here, as I understand it, is that for each Enhancement that is "composited" there are few inner symbols that exist then are necessary to properly convert them to the IO or TO symbols.
So let's look at the case of two enhancements.

The first is Accuracy and the second is Confusion. If one were to make an icon conversion pack, then the game will look in the pack folder for the image that has the filename that is coded for it to place on that particular Enhancement. In this case, that is the same image (only one file) for multiple Enhancers. So, an Icon pack would have an image whose filename matches the one the game calls... and will apply it to ALL of the Enhancers that use that image. AKA, the two above will have the same inner symbol STILL.
What you are proposing, is actually altering the physical code of the game, which I don't believe is at all possible. I could be mistaken... and even if I am, that type of a change is HIGHLY against the EULA, not just frowned upon like the work that I was implying needed to be completed.
Shadowdream, I am really curious what it is that you had planned to do, now that I know the situation in which we find ourselves. Prolly best to only PM those who are curious though.

Techbot, this is pretty much the modus operandi of Sharker, in case you haven't noticed yet. Someone makes a suggestion that makes something easier, and he basically flips out over it. I have to say though, I am a bit surprised by Bill's fervor in this case.
(Also, unrelatedly, see the edit I made to an earlier post that is pertinent to the discussion of a client-side fix.) -

[Edit: So.... I looked into a couple things, and it doesn't look as though it is possible for the players to edit the Enhancements in the way that has been suggested up-thread. You see, the Enhancement images are created from various pieces on an as needed basis (or so it seems) and the unfortunate part is that the image that gets overlaid onto the colored background is it's own thing. Soooo, what this means is that even if a Hold image were created to be overlaid, it would be applied incorrectly based on the images that are currently in use. Sci/Tech would get the biggest shaft, having only what, two symbols to work with. I feel that we must simply continue to lobby for some kind of update or somesuch. A client-side fix just isn't possible as far as I can tell.] -

Well then... I may not have to bug Corva about this at all (and not do all the research and renaming and such that I had planned). Do you plan to do the rest and make an installer out of it like you did for Corva's pack?

I almost NEVER use IOs. I have a few characters that I slot at 32 with level 35 common IOs and keep on them until 50 (even in this case I have to go 20+ levels on DOs/SOs and then continue to update with them until 50), but those are rare because I find it to be a pain in the butt to craft all of those. It is far easier to spend a few minutes at a store. -

In fact, I tend to think that the server decreases in "bestness" as the population gets larger. Working backwards, though, I would say there is a tipping point, at about Justice's population, where smaller tends to decrease the "bestness" as well. Just one guy's thoughts.

I happen to think there are far too many weapons available as it is to the various ATs... and this suggestion posits making an entire AT that can ONLY use weapons? (And to add to the randomness of it, only two primaries gain certain benefits?)
