WOW... what an exciting session! Two folks undergo a shift in their appearance (one was temporary, and the other... well, no one's sure). Another is in the Hospital and a totally new person has been introduced to us.
What a day!
Also, after the TF I was able to afford a slightly larger TP room. After next week's second half to the TF we should be able to place a new Porter and a few more beacons (if we get any, that is).
Lastly, please try to only place salvage in the racks that is useful for the creation of items for the base. If anyone wants specific salvage, I am sure we are all willing to share stuff. Or, I can designate a rack for Base Item Storage, and the other 2 or so for items you think others might need (rares, mostly). -
Quote:Thanks for the plug!If you're interested, there's a running (and sticked!) costume help thread in the Screenshots & Art forum.
It really is a great thread to pass through every now and again.

Here's a slightly reworked shot from the TF tonight. Whatcha think?

Quote:That would be why you should take screenies from the costume editor.Hers mine (flying so I could get the feet, camera wouldn't get the distance I wanted.)

That would be how ya does it.Then make sure that the URL is NOT underlined.

Ohhhhhh! There is something else exciting going on: I may have filled our 8th spot. However, it is unlikely he will be able to join us until next week Thursday. I sent him a buttload of info on stuff including the name and costume (so no issues should arise in that regard). I haven't a clue what character he will make, but I tossed out that making another Troller a second Blaster or a Kheld would all be pretty cool. Personally, I am hoping he rolls a Kheld.
OOC: I am certain this means that hilarity will ensue... it being a lvl 32 power and all. In that same vein... I am planning something interesting, plot-wise, to occur with my character near the end of the first part of the TF, if things go how I imagine they will. -

Quote:Bwah? The question was specifically targeted at NOT buying another copy of the game.Recommendation : If you start him his own account, (https://secure.ncsoft.com/cgi-bin/Store.pl) I recommend either the Architect Edition w/ Magic pack (that one lets you choose either Tech/Cyborg or Magic), Good Vs. Evil, or Mac [Client is released, Celebration] Edition. In that order. GvE gives the Jumpjets/jump pack as well as the pocket D VIP card, and mac edition gives some nice costume bits and the mission porter - mac edition is just a name, by the way

Quote:First of all, phrasing the question about [Mystic Fortune] that way kinda presents it like a false dichotomy because no one was given a choice about it's recharge. It does what it does, so there was never an issue of being MORE or LESS pleased with the power based on recharge. Hypothetically, though, if the power were to have had a 2 hour recharge? Well, I prolly wouldn't have used it a lot (obviously) but it would have boiled down to about as much as I use it now. In fact, it is only when another player uses it that I remember I have it. When it comes to [Mission Transporter] I use it about twice a play session. Once when I start out (unless the first mission is in the same zone as where I logged off) and once just before I quit. But, I don't really get any "enjoyment" out of using [Mystic Fortune] anymore, it was fun and unique when it first came out, now, it seems more like a burden sometimes... a buff I feel obligated to use if someone buffs me with it.Actually, it is not a ridiculous comparison if you consider that, regardless of the end result and who the power apparently aides, people buy that power based on a description on the store website and thought it would enhance their enjoyment of the game. Please don't tell me you wouldn't have gotten LESS enjoyment from the power if you could only cast it every 2 hours and don't feel you got MORE value because you don't have to wait that long. That's just confusing, dude.
One might argue that passing out "colorful but very miniscule buffs" to other players is merely a way of ingratiating yourself to them, and it's actually more for the caster's benefit than than the recipient. One could also argue that transporting yourself to a mission in just a few seconds is rather worthless if your teammates can't do it, too. Don't you still have to wait for them? However, if you had to pee or train your character and fill the empty slots, you could "catch up" with the group with Mission Transporter.
Given the HUGE drama recently surrounding the prompt to [Mystic Fortune] I find it funny and a tad ironic that you spun an argument like you did in the second paragraph I quoted. But, I can understand the issue with getting to the mission first with MT and having to wait. However, that isn't when people tend to use it. Most use it when they would get there LAST without it. So, in that way it is quite useful. Also, it is important to note that just WHO a power affects is NOT an issue of perspective, it is an issue of targeting. Does the game let you use it on yourself? Than it is other-affecting. Period. If I had been talking about "benefits" then I could see that POV, I suppose. And it is important to note again that I buy the Packs for the costumes, NOT the powers.
Also, when you compare MT to other transport powers' recharges, I feel you are missing a key element or two. Self-buffs and self-affecting powers, by and large, cost more and do less than teammate-affecting powers. Also, there is no other power in the game that can bring you, the player, from ANYWHERE in the game (except a large portion of Pocket D) to the EXACT spot you are trying to get to with a single click. The closest power is probably [Recall Friend] or the Pocket D/SG Base teleporters. However, one is limited by zone and the other can only get you to ONE particular place. So, as you can see, the recharge in this case is balanced by utility.
Now, would I COMPLAIN if they made the recharge an hour instead of 2? Prolly not. But, I think it is fine as it is, and would not ask anyone to "fix" because I feel as if I had been ripped off (or slighted in some way).

Hmmm, well if only a few of us know about the early time... then maybe we should just plan on the regular time and do w/e for half an hour in hopes that you arrive and we can start the TF.

There are plenty of out-of game sources of information that you could have looked at to determine the recharge time BEFOR buying. Also, you could have typed [Mission Transporter] in-game in chat and gotten that info as well... BEFORE you bought it. Plus, as others have said, whether you care about them or not, you got other stuff besides the power, so it DID NOT cost $9.99 by itself. Period.
Also, there is no need for a reduction in it's recharge, there are a TON of ways to get around (especially CoV-side) besides just using that one power. Not to mention that calling out Murphy's Law shouldn't really be a reason for the Devs to change anything.
Also also, it is against forum rules to create a poll/voting thread.
Quote:This is a ridiculous comparison. The utility of the powers is completely different. Giving a colorful but very miniscule buff to another player is not comparable to giving yourself an incredibly useful time-saving travel boost, regardless of the price. And I would have STILL bought the pack if [Mystic Fortune] was on a 2 hour timer, it matters none to me.What is the recharge time for Mystic Fortune, which is one part of another item pack and costs the same amount? The power aids the recipient for 20 minutes, but how useful would the power be if you could only cast it every 2 hours? Would you even remember to use it?

Or, worse yet, it SEEMS to be fine, some players think it's fine... but when A LOT more players take a look in Open Beta it is seen to be broken/bad and needs to undergo a long and tedious fix. Then people rant because it was "promised."
I guess I still stand by the fact that I would much rather get something late and working, than early/on-time and defective. -
Quote:Oh rly?...especially given that most stores no longer carry the MA DVD expansion.
I continue to see it on store shelves all over the place. Odd that your local stores do not carry it. However, I can't really comment about the rest as all the ideas I would've had have been suggested. -
Quote:The problem with this is that it is meaningless. It is a cerebral effort... nothing more. And if all you want is a thought experiment, go nuts. However, in the actual game world, there aren't as many as one might think that give a damn about the numbers and play what they like. I would wager that most folks are like that. Therefore, you are getting responses that talk about there still being Scrappers and opinions and prefrences.Obsolete, in this context, would indicate that one archetype is "numerically" inferior to the other, while possessing no strengths to compensate for this. Who has more IO's, more skill, more influence, or more pimples on their back is all irrelevant. The question at hand deals with basic, equal-ground gameplay.
Also, to use your car example, I would pick the Escort due to gas mileage and cost to insure... -
Quote:Why? Isn't that what new alts are for?ITF and Lady Grey aren't cutting it anymore, need 50 and "post"-50 content in the baddest way please.
I don't mean that you should stop doing what you like... just expressing how differently I see the game, is all. Also, don't get me wrong, I understand that a ton of people enjoy playing their high level character. It's just that I don't, and they get shelved pretty much as soon as they ding 50 (except my two badging characters).
Given all of that, it seems obvious that I wasn't excited about the Incarnate system, and so don't really care at all that it got delayed. Hell, I am more excited to fly through Praetoria for the first time and mess with the new costumes. -
I know this might be strange, but I look at Brutes as Brutes and Tankers as Tankers. Woah!
(Numbers added by me.)
Quote:To answer your questions though...1)Do you look for a Brute whenever your team needs extra DPS?
2)Do you look for a Brute whenever your team needs someone who can soak up the damage?
1) Ummm, I don't build a team like that. I invite w/e players are available. Same goes for a TF/SF. However, if I have the availability, I try to get one of each AT in the mix. So... I guess the answer to your question, would be "no."
2) Again, I don't look to fill certain roles like that... because, frankly, it's not necessary in this game (usually). So again, I guess the answer is "no." But, if I am planning to do a SF with AVs I will typically try to have a Brute and/or MM around. -
I am okay with an hour earlier... if we can get the word out that is.
Also, I wanted Fenn to know that I very much liked what he did in the dorm area. So much so, that I copied his room design over to the rest of the area... I also made a few changes to his conference room, but nothing major.
Also... we have our very first Teleporter in the base. Unfortunately, I didn't have the prestige to actually make it go anywhere...So, that is job one! Earn prestige. Secondarily would be to earn some Beacons!

You know you can edit your first post infinitely to include extra information... right?

Quote:I have weird internal rules when I lead a team about who it is that we should wait for, and who we shouldn't.On another note, the one thing that kills me is waiting for everyone to zone, especially if the team can proceed without the whole team in the instance. OK, so Joe Slow is taking 25 minutes to train up. I can respect that, I've done the same. But do we REALLY need to sit around and tell knock-knock jokes until he's ready? I mean, it's not his mission and we already have seven people in the instance. Let's go already. Joe can catch up when he's ready, or possibly join us for the next mission.
In fact, they actually vary quite a bit. I don't always expect a team to wait for me, even if it is my mish... even if I am the leader, unless I am practically in the door to the mish and people start killing s***. That bugs me, I mean, 3 seconds woulda killed ya? If I see "On Mission Map" for location, I will wait for them to load, pretty much every time. If I see they are in a zone with a WW and are a zone away, I will generally not wait.
Then there is the situation of TFs. I almost ALWAYS feel we should wait for members in that situation. I just think that if you are doing a story that is based on a team and requires a team, then the whole team should be present (barring ppl saying not to wait or shopping, etc.).
Also, if someone develops a pattern of being slow to a mish, I will stop waiting for them. Basically, what I want is kinda the Golden Rule here. If I would expect the team to wait for ME in a situation, then I will probably wait for them.
And then there are "dead weight" players. Players that seem to do nothing except exist. They aren't actively stupid, they don't cause team wipes... they just stay a room behind at all times, or use a single power over and over (like spamming heal auras), or any number of other useless but still "existent" actions. I, as a rule, will not wait for these players ever. I mean, the only reason that they haven't been kicked is that they are padding spawn size. Though as soon as they are actively stupid, or start expecting me to wait for their uselessness... they are gone.
