  1. I officially formed the SG a few moments ago. Everyone who is in it now has permission to invite anyone else, Jason is currently in possession of the Super Leader rank... however, it does seem based on character alone, that Mao Kahn should prolly be our leader.
  2. I am officially hijacking this thread so that I don't have to update my sig or make a new thread for ANOTHER one of our groups.

It is designated Iota Sigma 12-5, but we will officially refer to it as 'The Isle.'

-Dr. Wachhorst has been instrumental in the process of containing the beasts we have begun to bring in for our experiments. Speaking of which, now would be a good time to mention the staff who we have recruited. A team has been brought together comprised of geneticists, mutagenesis experts, mages, arcane historians, and statisticians. They have worked together to try to create races of beings that can serve a variety of functions while maintaining the ability to revert back to a human form. These 'islanders' as we refer to them, will be instrumental in a variety of applications, mostly military.

-Fantastic! We have seen the islanders give live birth to their own kind!! We were never sure that this would be possible as so many genetics experiments end in reproductive disaster! These 'natural islanders' should be the crowning achievement of Project Moreau

A bit of musing by John, here, that could act as a good descriptor.

Wait -- there would need to be a sun of some sort, and the asteroid would rotate to create night and day. Or, the "sun" rotates around the asteroid like a moon?

You are not incorrect, see above.

    New Zone

Where would it be? (Paragon City, Rogue Isles, Preatoria, Co-Op, other)
Co-Op, though ostensibly in Paragon... sorta. Unlike other co-op zones, it would be less of a "lets join up to fight the evil" as just a place that is accessible to both sides and would serve as a hub between different places with intriguing appearance and unique zone events.

What would the zone's history be?
This zone would be a version of Boomtown that Cole attempted to overlay with Praetoria. However, the process of merging Primal and Praetorian Earth failed, at least in part, and has caused damage to the barrier between dimensions. As a result, "dimensional bubbles" have opened up across all of Boomtown that make portions of it appear to be from other dimensions such as: Praetoria, Primal, the Rikti Homeworld, the Shadow Shard, Council Earth, etc.

What significantce to the city would it have?
It would serve as a way to access various dimensions. (Possibly a way for villains to get into the Shadow-Shard as well.) The zone would have zone events in which the "bubbles" expand and forces from that dimension become dominant in the zone. There would also be portals to various other locales like to the Rogue Isles (giving another way to get from the RI to Paragon).

What unique features would you incorperate?
    See above.

    Who are the enemy groups?
Rikti, Praetorians, Council, 5th Column, Soldiers of Rularuu, possibly Freaks (which would be from limited "bubbles" from the Freakshow dimension in some Portal Corp. missions)

What are the main issues for inhabitants?
The changing landscape of the zone expressed by the various Zone Events the resultant instability.

What level characters are best suited for a trip there?
    Hmmmm, 30+?

What qualities does the Giant Monster(s) have? (If there is one)
Not sure what, if anything, would be appropriate. Possibly an aspect of Rularuu when the Shard's Zone Event is going on. Possibly a random AV version of a Praetor now and again.

What other things should we know?
    Unsure.
  6. Meh, something like that happens to most folks eventually. BTW, nice costume on that dude.
  7. I don't know about that... I think it would more depend on the Dmg and various protective Mods that are given to this new AT. I don't think most would argue that an Assault set stands up to a Scrapper's Melee set in terms of Dmg... and part of what seperates them is the Scrapper's higher Dmg Mod.

And no, its NOT tank maging. HEATs and VEATs have Assault/Armour, and they are not tank mages. End.
I have heard folks talk of making a Melee/Summon or an Assault/Summon AT as well that would feature pets whose role is more buffing than attack. I say, make both the Summon and the one you proposed... the one for Red and the other for Blue.
  9. For those who missed it, my point was that it doesn't make a heckuva lot of sense to give a Scrapper (a close combat specialist) a weapon that is ONLY intended for Range no matter the fact that some sets already have a few ranged powers... because those powers are making use of the Melee weapon they already have in some way.

Also, using NPCs as an argument for why a PC should get something is just plain illogical. They are given powers for very different reasons than a PC is. Take your KoA example, without the wrist bows, it would be far easier to hover above them and be safe... they were given range not because the Devs felt "scrappery" NPCs need crossbows, but because they needed ranged powers so that PCs don't game the system and those weapons fit the theme of the NPC Group.

I also have issue with forcing re-draw within a single powerset... unless of course you want them to create an entirely new weapon stance with blade in right and gun in offhand... but that would take a lot more work, and make [Brawl] even more convoluted (programming-wise).

Finally, the T9 proposed for this set makes little sense. How does one attack enemies around you with a sword, and then simoltaneously fire shots, missing all of those folks, and only hitting folks farther out?

Well, based on that answer... I am still against the idea. There are plenty of sword sets already available in this game, it really doesn't need another one. And yes, it is different. Those other "weapons" are from a completely different set, and each is only used once to give the character access to specific "gimmick" powers. Were the gun for that same purpose, I would have less of an issue with it... but it is designed to be used as much for damage as for aesthetics in the proposition in the OP.

Likewise, I am against the idea of a Gun APP for melee ATs as well, with the possible exception of using the gun to offer customization to the Weapon Mastery pool in some way, perhaps.
  10. Ummm, check to see if the Chest Symbol box is checked in the SG window.

[Edit: Dang, beaten to the punch.]
  11. To me, a ranged weapon should never be a part of a melee set regardless of the fact that melee sets have ranged powers in them already. Ranged weapons are for ranged powersets, and melee weapons for melee powersets. Aside from ridiculousness, what seperates the spirit of this suggestion from, say, Archery Melee?

I am also dubious of the suggestion to instead create a Katana 'Manipulation'-styled set for Blasters... as again it crosses that above barrier. There is just something about the aesthetics of it that I don't like.

  14. I loved that strip. Can't believe how well those two capture the essence of C&Hs.

    Age of a toon?

Certain wandering NPCs when clicked on will give you the number of hours you have "been on patrol." Can't recall which consonant the NPC's name starts with though.
  16. Villains could definitely use a SF in that range... and the premise sounds sorta interesting to me.

Personally, though, I would sooner see a TF Focused on King Midas and the Gold Brickers... would be nice to fight him, or at least SEE him.
  17. As an aside, I wonder what awesome could get turned out by one of the characters in my sig as inspiration.

From left to right: Skull-Force (an ex-Skull Thugs/FF MM), Twostripe (an assassin DB/WP Stalker), Rustblight (an ex-Vahzilok 'Rust' Eidolon; Kat/Energy Stalker), Schwarzpunkt (an Austrian businessman turned rogue; Dark/SR Stalker), Bioflux (Twostripe's brother and an Elec/Nin/Mu Stalker), Wylde-Fire (my main Hero and essentially me with powers; Grav/FF/Energy Troller), Dr. Sikuliaq (a psychologist with a magic cape; Ice/Storm Troller), Slashblot (a crazed ex-print shop worker; DP/Kin Corr), Mantis Engine (robotic automaton; Ill/Rad Troller) and Soulforged (an undead man whose soul was forged into the chains; KinM/Fire Brute)

    Too much info, yeah, probably.
  18. I... well... I think ZX has a pretty good in with the Devs, actually. It would seem that several chest emblems were added to the game based on the above ideas... as well as some that are in the game files (PIGGs) yet don't seem to be in use (yet).

Maybe I have said too much.
  19. *We're

I don't think I would use any of those... esp not the Ben 10 one.

Robots, Mercs and Ninjas could be crossovers to work for both alignments, though the heroic versions should have alternate forms to the villain versions.
We have Hero MMs... that's what happens when a MM crosses over to... (wait for it)... hero-side!

No it doesn't. The experience from 1 to 50+ is left untouched. Also, Incarnate powers do nothing to fill holes in characters that one doesn't plan to run through 804 Trials.

Here's a hint: It's not for the opportunity to run costume contests in Atlas Park. People don't play a game for seven years for that. They play it for new powersets, costume pieces, archetypes, missions, zones, mob groups, new stories, zone revamps -- that all-inclusive content that players, old and new, can enjoy on their own terms and that CoH has provided largely without restrictions. We expect CoH to give us the same standard of what it gave us for the last seven years and that now makes us sound entitled? Or our years-old playstyle is now "weird?" Or that we're in a "tiny minority" for not being pleased with the state of affairs? Shame on Paragon Studios for setting such a high standard and shame on us for holding them to it.

If the endgame exists only to support [...] running BAF 40 times on the same toon, [those folks] will be paying to keep the lights on [themselves].
Wow. You just summed up my feelings EXACTLY with regard to the most recent content releases.

[I however, don't feel the need to target a particular poster, and as such, removed those references.]
  23. I have seen that same error (though everytime it is a different PIGG file that is identified as the culprit). I wish they would fix that. CoH has been crashing for me more consistently than ever since i20.

Odd, I was involved in this event for the majority of the evening, and had little to no issues when it comes to lag... and my system is NOT top of the line. I DC-ed twice, but while actually playing, I couldn't complain.

The key, is to spread out to many different zones and instances of zones as the Community Reps instructed. I was in St. Martial 2 and loving it throughout the evening.
