I refer you to a word that is very popular among "gangstas" a word that is used to describe their best friend, which was once used only to keep them down. A word that I know would be censored, and even if it wasn't I would get modsmacked and possibly banned because I am white and used it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
There is, of course, a difference here. The N-word you alluded to has been embraced as a way to remove its stigma. If I were a black man, I might feel that me using the N-word is empowering, as now it is MY word, not the word of silly racist white people. The same goes for the other F-word and the gay community (though that one offends me regardless).
  2. That is exactly what I was told by a Scrapper one time. He said to stop the KB, to which I and the other PB said that we can't really, a lot of our powers have it in there. He responded with, than don't attack.

I actually didn't for a few groups (not because I really cared what he thought, but to see if the enemies killed him or something ). Basically, with me standing around the team didn't move as quickly and more people took damage. I jumped back in and nuked, clearing the rest of an entire spawn. I think I did my job, as he didn't have anything to say after that.

    Sports Pack?!

    [ QUOTE ]
Ack. While I can appreciate the time you took outlining your idea, I hope none of this ever makes it into the game.

I don't know if I was somehow scarred as a child, but for the most part I can't stand the kind of atmosphere that tends to surround organized sports. All too often sports reinforce the thinking of if you are 2nd place you're still a loser. To a certain degree that kind of thinking is already in PvP, but at least that is a 'self-contained' part of CoX.

I already try to avoid business with TV's playing on the weekends, because invariably there is some sports event blaring. I don't want to have to avoid CoX because it is becoming City of ESPN.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I completely agree with you... and yet, I still kinda like the ideas that are presented. Especially if there are any new costume items added, no matter how specific an item may be, it can always be co-opted into use as something else!
  4. It would be if it was made up of only the Granite and other "rock-men." Aren't they vulnerable to Dark and Smashing damage?
  5. For some reason I have this strange gut feeling that there will be at least one new AT, possibly as many as three but not a full set of 5. Perhaps, a new epic AT will be the only addition... unlocked by a new method (maybe successfully side-switching a character). Nothing is confirmed at this juncture regarding new ATs. Heck, we don't even know what existing ATs will be granted access to the new powersets that are presumed to be included with i16/Going Rouge!
  6. I have a lvl 50 Grav/FF already on test that could easily respec into Force Bubble to help out... this sounds like a decidedly odd method of Hami success. If this ever gets off the ground, PK, give me a holler: @Thirty7

That's the nice thing about facts, they're not debatable.

    [/ QUOTE ]
A philosophical quibble: facts are indeed debatable, and mutable over time. Might I comment that it was once an accepted fact that the Earth was flat.

    Power Myths!

    [ QUOTE ]

Rude = insinuating yourself into my fight when I do not want your help. If I wanted help, I'd form a team. If I did not want to fight I would have fled.

I'm not interested in "killing faster". I'm interested in "challenging fights", testing my character's abilities (and my player skills) to the limit. I want to see "can I take these five +3 freakshow" or some such, and your drive by debuff just removed a big chunk of my fun because you assumed I both want and need your help, when that should be my call, not yours.

So yeah, I think it's rude.

Same with drive by buffing. Every time I get hit by a random speed boost or ice shields, I have to go sit and wait for them to wear off so I can continue with what I was doing. (If I'm doing open world fights, I'm usually testing a build or a power, it's hard to test something when someone else keeps throwing something new into the mix).

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think you can safely say that your play-style (and choice to solo in an MMO) are not the dominant choices among your fellow players (not that you shouldn't do either). Therefore, people will assume they are helping and swoop in to do so... we ARE playing heroes after all (or a case of honor among thieves if you are playing red). Either way, I would assume most people do not realize that they are, in effect, unintentionally griefing you.

I think the dominant response to a drive-by buffing or debuffing is a "Thanks, dude" or the like... Heck, in AP I have even gone Dwarf with my PB so that I could Taunt enemies helping a lowly troller to actually be able to kill them. He thanked me for the help and we teamed for a bit with him as an SK, was a good time.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Why not just throw the stupid thing out and never think about it again?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I dunno... I kinda like the idea that you are renting out part of an alternate dimension (or wherever the bases actually exist). It feels like something that should be there. Plus, you need SOMETHING to do with all of that prestige.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Alright so basically this could be done by having an "Item Creator" similar to what we have available with the tailor screens, including save and load buttons. If the items can be saved/loaded that way, they would be easily shared like any costumes or critters. Perhaps they would need to then be "published" like arcs for AE content are.

My only question for the implementation is what impact would this have on the item count limit that causes base problems some have experienced. If the items are still separate pieces that are just placed in the proper configuration then this could actually make the problem more widespread as more people find it easier and easier to find themselves at a higher item count. If the items created in this manner are placed as a new, static unit, then it could conceivably lessen those issues, or at least I'd think.

Or would this be too ambitious an idea to implement?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I would imagine the system would probably still need to count the items seperately. I also imagine that something is being done with regard to the item limit... However, this doesn't change how truly ambitious of a suggestion this is, or how relatively few people would actually use this feature. AKA, it would be awesome (any one part of it even) but it has a snowball's chance of coming to fruition.

What? That was the website by which the anouncement was first released. The link he provided was from one of the buttons on the Press Release page.
  13. Welcome to the party Minato! What server do you play on currently? I would love to show you around town, as it were on either red- or blue-side. I have a VG on Guardian in need of a fresh infusion of members, and an SG on Infinity that would love to show you the hero-side game as well. Drop me a line in game! Global is: @Thirty7

Drive-by Foe Debuffs are kill stealing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They're not kill stealing, but I consider them rather rude.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Rude = Helping you kill faster? Color me confused.
  15. It certainly would be.

I think the best way to accomplish this is to create a "Build" mode. This mode would allow you to construct anything you want out of any of the available base details, and then save your creations (possibly in you personal inventory) for later use. That way, you can place the new items anywhere you want, and you can freely delete them, edit them or copy them as necessary. Basically, exactly what you suggested but the creation of the items would take place outside of the base itself... that may make it easier to implement (using an empy base's largest possible room as a "staging" area, perhaps).
  16. [ QUOTE ]

LOL. If you actually played with me, you'd realize that #1 I don't farm. #2 I don't PL.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Whether you farm or not, it doesn't change the PoV you were endorsing, does it?
    [ QUOTE ]
You're just putting me into your convenient factions so you can attempt to bash my PoV. I never even said anything about non-farmers being 'stupid'. You said that just so you could feign being offended.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I said it to belittle the debate itself. It has been done to death (odd that I am still participating). Also, to hightlight how many on each side of the debate sees the other side. I only used the word "ebil" from your post as it is decidedly a silly word.
    [ QUOTE ]
If you're going to troll you have to be a lot more subtle and smarter than that. I'd suggest you save that energy for posting and come up with something better than a convenient 'snip'.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It was a tad "trollish," wasn't it? I guess I have grown a bit tired of reading the same arguments over and over again (hence the comment about me being tired). It seems like every time (regardless of what may have been presented before) the argument never changes (not directed at you personally).
    [ QUOTE ]

And how is it that you are offended somehow that someone level pacts their toons to get to 50 without playing.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Offended? Hardly. It just doesn't seem right to use a feature that was designed to alleviate some of the pitfalls of being a casual player who's friends with someone he never sees, as a way to get two level 50 characters. Whether or not the work is doubled, you are still playing one character and getting another (on a seperate account I might add) to 50 without touching it.
    [ QUOTE ]

The other pacted person is basically going through 100 levels to assume the burden. If you don't think the developers had thought of that before implementing the system, I think you've done a disservice to their intelligence. I'd suggest worshiping at a different altar then.
    .
Just because something offends you it appears that you feel that somehow it shouldn't be done, when it doesn't affect you in the slightest if you choose not to participate in it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If any PLing is involved, the "burden" you mentioned is circumvented. Also, I recently saw that a Super Team was going to be using Pacts to slow down their leveling progress. is that exploiting the system? A little bit. You are getting characters to 50 that you know will have an easy (and fun, I would imagine) ride, and getting some freebie 50s on the side.

    [ QUOTE ]
And if you feel that no one will care if you post anyhow, I'd prefer if you didn't even begin in the first place.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Firstly, I don't care what you "prefer." Secondly, my point was that no matter how many posts and threads talk about farming and not-farming, no one seems to change their minds. So, if I the ability, I would remove all of these pointless arguments and discussions. But, they are here, and I feel compelled to argue against them, on occasion.
    [ QUOTE ]

Either step up and put in a cogent well-argued response, or don't even start. It just makes you look bad to claim, 1) I'm too tired to refute your argument 2) If I think something is vaguely wrong then it shouldn't be approved 3) No one's going to read or reply so it's time to play the victim card.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    1) I already said why I stated that.
    2) Of course if I think something is wrong I don't think it should be approved of. But besides that, aren't you arguing the same thing? You seem to believe (though you don't do it yourself, apparently) that there is nothing wrong with farming or exploiting the game... and are saying that people shouldn't disapprove. How is that different than what I am saying, again?
    3) I didn't say no one would reply... I was pretty sure someone would, eventually. Again, I already stated my reasoning for that part. And where is this "Victim Card"? I never claimed that I was hurt by anything or that anyone should pity me... that is still what playing the victim means, right? Or did they stealth a change of that?
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I thought that the active pact partner had to do twice the work to get to 50.

    2 x work = 2 x 50s

    Where's the exploit again?

    [/ QUOTE ]
It wouldn't be twice the work if one of the characters PLed their way to 50. Again, I said there were A LOT of exceptions.

    Claws Costume?

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm not talking about making it it's own set, I'm talking about adding it in as a piece of costume weaponry. Instead of having some claws popping outta the wrist, lets see some feral claw options. But I guess just wait and see what happens. People lobbied for dual pistols and demon summoning hard enough and got it...

    [/ QUOTE ]
I know what you are asking for.... what I am saying is that it isn't as easy as you seem to think. Mostly because of two things: the animations in Claws do not have an open hand, but instead a closed fist, and there are no fingers in CoH/V. Between those two things, what you are left with is either altering a lot to add in fingers, or basically adding a new powerset's worth of animations work.

Again... I think this would be a cool option to have, but it seems to be limited by technical issues as well as a limited benefit (i.e. a lot of work to only benefit people who play Claws).
  19. I agree completely Tim. I run a rather small SG on Infinity, and our membership has turned over a lot... few of the people who I had in it when it started are still active now... but I somehow always find new fun people to pal around with in-game.

Also, there are a lot of people posting about how "the only fun in this game is farming, why would I want to do X when I could farm" I think all of those folks need to take a step back and see if playing the actual game is fun enough to keep them here, if not... it's time to move along to something else.
  20. I approve of this message! *thumbs up*

I have given all of the members of my SG the ability to pay base rent just so there is a chance that I don't have to go and do it. On hero-side I am far less annoyed about it, but on red? Oh my goodness does it annoy me. Its in the one zone that I never go back to once I "outgrow" it!

    Claws Costume?

    [ QUOTE ]
I dunno. It seems to me like its settling for less when we could just as easily have the monstrous hands as a type of "claw" since they already exist and its a matter of just swapping them out like a glove. They have the swipe animations and such already...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, this is not as easy as it sounds or we would have it already. As another said *points* up there, BAB weighed in on this in another thread a while back... it simply isn't trivial to alter all of the animations to a set and tie that to a costume piece. IIRC you would have to dupe the entire set with new animations and have a whole new powerset called "Feral Claws" or something. It doesn't seem logical to have two claws sets. Would I like to see this option? Hellz yeah, I think there should be a ton of options available to cover all kinds of character concepts, but technical limitations win.

Well, I found this post from him around i11 and the Weapon Customization stuff, but that isn't the only post I recall seeing about it... hmmmm.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
All the other stuff was okay because it wasn't using the MA. But the minute someone uses this "creative content outlet tool" for "non-creative" purposes, all hell breaks loose. And, I've gotta agree with Iggy. A nice long post apologizing for removing badges is nice, but where's the nice long post apologizing for removing characters and banning accounts (especially those that were done on accident)?

    [/ QUOTE ]

In my opinion, the apology needs to be to the community for all the people that were accidently banned for 3 days with no reason. No apology needs to be handed out to those that exploited the system, no matter how they (the exploiters) try to rationalize exploiting, its fairly clear on its face that MEOW teams were exploits. While I grant that the devs have the authority and can temp ban accounts for exploits I still dont neccesarily agree with it. I don't always agree with what the developers have decided in the past, however in this case their decision to run a script hurt players that may have never stepped foot inside a Architect Building and more than have stayed away from exploits. Furthermore I think the handling of the ban, no response from the devs in any way, no " we understand that there are players who have been erroniously banned, if you think you are one of those please contact customer service and we will take care of that right away", nothing, in fact until recently any talk of it was deleted.

My biggest beef though is just how it was supposed to be case by case and instead they ran a script to ban folks. The fact that they have a script for that is alarming. The time they spent writing that script would have been better spent fixing the rikti com officers in beta before going live, it would have saved them a lot of headache, a lot of goodwill, and a handfull of subscriptions.

maybe next time they will listen and fix the massive exploits before sending it live and having to do the same thing all over again.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Snipped. (Basically: Exploits are cool, I exploit, everyone does. Getting to 50 in 8 hours is the same thing as getting there in a few days. Hyperbole, blah blah.)

    [/ QUOTE ]
I want to go through and comment about all the ways I think you are wrong. However, I just don't have the energy... and no one who reads it will care anyway. All of the "ebil farmers" and "ebiler PLers" will continue to hold their beliefs, and all of us "stupid non-farmers" will continue to hold ours.

And, for the record, I don't think that the folks in charge of those bannings handled things well. I think that an acknowledgement at the very least should be made regarding what happened and how. However, if you level pact a character and get its pact-mate to 50 and never play the other character, there is something wrong there. To me, that is exploiting the system (there are several exceptions to this opinion however, a lot, actually).
  23. As long as they tell us when one of those is broken... that's all I care about. Wherever they do that is up to them, this suggestion would work as well as the current system for telling the players these things.
  24. Snippet:
