Don't forget reading Herbs as 'Erbs.
All because there's a [censored] h in it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait... people actually pronounce the H in herb? Who does that? -

So put a little differently, The devs can't make you play a lot of hours, but they can make sure that if you don't, you fall behind those that do. Put in the effort, and you'll get the rewards. Kind of the backbone of an MMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
And here I thought the backbone of MMOs was the fact that they are a game, and are therefore for fun! I must be doing this wrong.
Also, what difference does it make if you "fall behind" when there is absolutely no in-game content that requires* you to be "ahead" of anyone in terms of IOs or Purples?
* Caveat being that one could argue PvP is an exception. I would point out that while it will certainly give one an edge, it is still not required. -
Dude, it's Crabform. Sheesh.
-
I am under the impression most things within a GM's power can be done at any time... it's just that a lot of times the violator in question doesn't happen to be online when the GM/Mod takes action.
-
I have no idea what you are talking about, but if it fixes those issues and is actually possible...
Why not? -

/unsigned just on principle. The game is based on american comic books/superheroes, not japanese ones.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, because the difference is so vast.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you have to admit that their is certainly a different design aethetic that is used in anime versus what is used in Bronze/Silver-Age comics such as the ones on which CoH/V is based.
Given that, the difference is significant enough that I can say I would probably not like any of the extremely niche items that would be suggested. However, as I have said before, if the items added would be of a slightly more generic nature, then I am all for it.
Admittedly, American comics are definately moving to merge stylistically more and more with the manga or anime style. However, we aren't really talking about modern American comics when we talk about the design and art that goes into CoH/V as much as we are about the more classic/iconic art of the Bronze/Silver-Age. -

Any of the items that dude is wearing would be sweet... most of the other options, IMO, aren't cool. In fact, I don't find most of them even vaguely aesthetically pleasing.
And the Lvl 1 Rage power? Ummm, no. No booster should give a clone of a power that already exists. -

I'm so annoyed that this pile of lame jokes got put in the official cannon. Am I the only one who would like to see Blue Steel be used as an actual character and not just as a punchline?
[/ QUOTE ]
You are not the only one.
But the jokes were funny nonetheless. -
Also, since the lvl of the IO makes almost no difference, shop through those available to find a good deal. I think mine were some rather odd levels (i.e. not 50 or 35 as is typical), IIRC.
-
Not as far as I know.
-
36 per server... 11 servers... that would be 396 total characters per account.
Considering you can have as many accounts as you want, the real maximum is infinite. -

5) People who actually talk. I don't like running missions with complete strangers who never say anything. Crack a joke, make a comment, ask a question, ANYTHING but stoney silence!
[/ QUOTE ]
OMCC do I know what you mean! I was on a PuG recently that said virtually nothing... so I said: "Hey, does anyone not like hot dogs?" That got things moving! -

Ok I think we are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I like making characters, so I want another AT to make character with. I can already see that you have no more advice to offer me regarding my OP.
Its a game, "getting the most out of it" doesn't have any meaning to me. I play for fun, the content of Co* isn't exactly stimulating to me so going through stories and arcs, contacts and dialogue doesn't really get me going. On my lvl 50 I completed contacts to about lvl 20.
I like game mechanics, I like being creative. So making costumes and learning how to play new characters is what I'm about.
You don't really need to add anything because I know your suggestion would involve blood sweat and tears. I have shed much of that already since 2004 so I don't really feel like doing that becasue its a game and its about fun. I feel like I would have a lot of fun playing a villian epic AT, not lvl'ing a tired old villain I quit playing a year ago.
So point of this thread is for people suggest the best way to get my character to 50.
Thanks for your comments so far. Any more suggestions would be great.
[/ QUOTE ]
My post did come off really heavy handed and preachy didn't it? I guess I kinda lost sight of the goal here. Yes, you have my number, I don't like to PL for any reason... but, I can also see where you are coming from. I would suggest taking a look at the couple posts above this one... some solid advice there.
In the name of PLing, the safest bet on Red is to head to Cap and give a shout for farms, advertising as a lvl 30+ will definitely be an advantage to your acceptance rate.
I guess what my whole point was, was that you stated you don't like the drab environment of the Rogue Isles and so don't really want to play through the content anymore to get to 50. That's cool I get that totally... but then you say you want to play a VEAT. I guess, it just seems to me that the RIs will still be uninviting for you, even if you have a cooler newer AT. For me, I learned to love the Isles only after I found a character I could enjoy playing, and I got him to 50... by the end, I knew that I would play both sides of the game.
So, I guess, make sure you will actually like where you end up before you go through the trouble of getting an AT that you might end up hating because of where it is that you have to play it. -
Thanks for the catch, Yuri. I can't believe I missed that.
Also, as an aside, if the parts that are added aren't sooo niche that they could basically only be used for anime styled costumes, I am all for it. More options isn't really bad, most times. I was a bit too knee-jerk even in my more thought out response. -
Let me see if I have this right...
Playing in zones you don't like would "spice up" your gameplay?
Also, I have been playing for just over 2 years now, and refuse to be PLed more than a level or two. If I get to the point where I feel I need to PL to 50, I will quit playing and find a new game.
However, you stated that you really like coming up with new characters and costumes and playing lots of different characters. So, why wouldn't you just do that? Isn't the point of the game to have fun? -

boughten: the past past tense of to buy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, it is an archaic form of the past participle of to buy... most normal people say "bought." After typing it, I checked to see if it was a real word because it didn't sound right... it is, so I kept it. -
I would strongly recommend against doing that. What's the rush?
-
AE = Architect Entertainment
MA = Mission Architect
AE missions are made using the MA... so by and large they are used interchangeably.
IMO, both of your characters are viable as candidates for quickish leveling to 50. Obviously, your Brute is slightly closer, but it wouldn't matter much in the long run which you chose. I would recommend that you pick whichever one you like to play as the most.
On a personal note, I am slightly more likely to invite a Brute to my team than a MM, if only because it is easier to play a Brute and therefore I am a bit less likely to run in to crappy players that way. -

Aett, on an unrelated note... why is your avatar's signature stop sign been Hitler-ized? (I know it changed some time ago.) -
I don't require any particular build to start a TF. I do however try to build a balanced team, and will search out components if I feel we are lacking in any one area. It also depends a lot on the TF.
For instance, if I am making a PuG team, and find that I have 5 members and no control, I will look for a troller or two, heck, maybe even a second tank (assuming I have one). I also sprinkle Khelds into my invites b/c they can no doubt fill in one or more roles that may end up lacking once the TF gets underway. -
If it makes you feel better, I took it at face value and didn't detect any "snide" in it.

Of course, I tend to save lightform if I know there's a boss or some such coming up. Don't think I've had to worry about a mid-pivotal-battle LF crash.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
I pretty much only pop Lightform in order to fight a boss or some other expected foe, or as a sort of panic button after an unexpected ambush or something. In these situations, either I survive, and get ready to pop a heal and a blue later, or I die trying and needn't worry about it.
