What percentage of your characters have biographies?
100%. Every character I make has a biography/history.
Do you usually write them at creation or after you've had a chance to get a feel for the character?
I know what the bio is at creation about 98% of the time, though it usually doesn't get written until all of the physical details of the character are nailed down (costume, powers, etc.) Sometimes as late as level 10, sometimes as early as level 1 just after it hits Atlas/Mercy.
Has a good biography saved a character you otherwise weren't that thrilled with?
Yes! In fact, I was about to delete a character when I thought of a new costume and bio that suddenly made the character seem fresh for me. I kept it, and still play him now and again.
And I have noticed that behavior on the bio screen. I am fairly certain the character count jumps you mention are due to HTML tags randomly coming into existence and being counted such as a "<br>." -
Indeed... I got an idea for a new character by looking at a stop sign partially covered with snow on the way to work this very evening... I shall see if the name I picked is taken, I kinda doubt that it is. Not sure what he will be ATwise though, it is likely he will be my Dual Pistols/Pain Corruptor though.

Whatever one you want?
But if you like the control aspect, then definitely go with [Soul Tendrils], unless of course you like losing life to stun foes...
Not helpful? I know... but I just don't know why you are asking us what YOU should do, it is your decision and totally dependent on what you like and don't like. -

Quote:And because YOU like it, the idea is awesome? Nice to be calling out others for doing exactly what you are.Ya I said it. Because YOU do not like Facebook and Twitter, YOU automatically shut the idea down. Get your head out of your ***. Seriously people. Any way to get more subscribers to this game, is a good idea.
Quote:And YES they should be having links people can post to their pages. Offering 7 days or 14 days of FREE time. No CC required.
Word of mouth only went so far. Now it is time to try new and different ways to get people to play.
Secondly, how is it "new and different" if (an)other game(s) have/has already done it?
Quote:For the longest I thought it odd that the people @ my local BestBuys didn't even know what CoX is/was. Well Its because word of mouth didnt do it. It didnt ultimately spread the word - enough -.
They need new ways to get the word out. So, instead of knocking this idea... Its time to start posting CHEAP ways to advertise the game. And links on POPULAR personal webbys like Facebook and Twitter, could definately get the word out there to more people.
Also, what if people don't WANT this game to have tons of newbies? What if they like this game to have a small-ish and manageable subscriber base who will actually be loyal to the game, instead of scampering off the next time a shiney button rolls by like a lot of the standard "networking site" users tend to be categorized as.[/quote]

Yes I know calling people ***** may not be the best thing to do. But, frankly I dont really care. This community chases people away with their snobbish attitudes. -
I guess I don't get why folks are arguing against a change that has NO negative impact whatsoever. Things get cheaper: WOOT!

Yes, your title is indeed a bit vague... I had no idea what this post was going to be about.
On topic: I have noticed an issue on my Spines/Elec, but my Electric Melee character is a Stalker, so his targets die pretty fast, I haven't noticed it much.
Yes, the prevailing theory seems to be that mobs run when:
1) low on HP
2) outgunned
3) recharge is basically non-existant
4) out of endurance
The last two basically translate to mean "when it has no powers available with which to attack." -
Thanks! I would have done that ligtening and such myself, but I was rather pressed for time.
-
I thought about that... but I have a different character using that face, and I try not to make any of my characters re-use too many parts.

Odd, I liked it the way it was... allowed me a giant easily clickable link to the main page. Especially, since I can't go to the main site while at work... it's blocked, yet mysteriously these forums are not.

I have not personally experienced this problem, luck I would guess, but it does sound annoying. Barring operator error of some kind, which seems unlikely, I fully support implimentation of one or both of the fixes you propose.
Short version?

Okay, so I took inspiration from basically all of you folks and came up with something I like... at least enough to make. I would love any suggestions you folks might have on it though:
Presenting, Project Alcatraz, in Entity form:
I especially liked how the villain claws melded with the black plant matter, so I went with a Claws/Dark Brute.
(It's a bit hard to see, but I went with the face that has the mouth and eyes sewn shut... and added a third eye to his forehead. I may work out some sort of symbolic reasoning for this. I also plan to get the bone wings, and see if they look better.) -
Quote:That is a pretty dang good idea, I shall have to mess with that. Thanks!Cosmic horror is very difficult to pull off when limited to a humanoid shape, the most I have ever come up with are themes off of the classic angelic/demonic look.
One Idea comes to mind, don't have time to put it together. Use the veins/vines look, with tentically-appropriate collors for the vines and normal flesh tones for the skin, add bone wings with the same tentacle color on the bone part, throw in a third eye and you'll have a look like an eldrich horror wearing a poorly fitting man-skin.
If I have time tonight I may try to throw an example together.
Quote:I really wish claws had actual...claws..for stuff like this.
As for the costume..something using the Bio set.

So, I have what I think is a relatively decent character concept, but I just can't get a costume I am happy with for the character's "demon-form."
Let me tell you a bit about the character.
He was doing research funded by Crey to pull energy from an alternate reality that had recently been discovered that was literally brimming with energy output. Little did the scientists know, but the reason for this was that the reality had been used to imprison a primeval destructive force (this would be the "demon" for lack of a better word). So, the experiment gets underway, and a link between the two realities is made, the ancient force is released, and becomes trapped in it's new prison... the body of the research scientist.
The character's main form is going to be a typical scientist looking dude, but I want a ghastly kinda cosmic horror or demon form to use for him as well. I tried to put together a costume, but I was vastly dissapointed with it. I know the frequenters of this thread are quite creative, so I would appreciate your assistance. The less "cliché" the better.
Oh, the character will be named Project Alcatraz and will be a Brute... I am still deciding on powerset, but it will definitely be */Dark Armor. For primary, I am looking at Super Strength, Claws or Dual Blades (leaning toward Claws or SS). -
I'm not surprised that it rolled out at the time that it did... rather that it actually happened at all. There are other parts of this game (namely the signature TFs) that are woefully "out of date" and have been with just as much if not more "time" to set right.

Quote:Ummmm, I don't believe the word "dank" is one used as an adjective to modify colors.I did it the other way around: I've got my Poison vibrantly colored instead of the sickening dingy yellow/green it was before. All the powers are colored according to the buff or debuff they do: purple for the mez protect, dank teal for the -speed, orange for the hold, etc. With the shocking contrast on the character's costume, it actually looks pretty good.

Am I to assume there is something wrong with boys who like boys (especially if they are hot)?

Wow, I am a bit surprised that this got changed so quickly...

Quote:Good point. I just find it hard to believe that people really enjoy making ridiculously specific IO builds for people they don't know. If they do, well, then as you said, it's all good. I am just not one of those people.Well, it depends what you mean by work. I think words like "work" and "lazy" suggest some kind of work ethic which isn't really appropriate to a game.
I kind of enjoy writing down lists of powers and IO sets in a notebook, adding up all the positional defences and then screwing up the piece of paper and throwing it in a bin. Its not work, its play. If another player who would find that tiresome and frustrating wants to capitalise on my love of these activities, good on them.
On the other hand, I would find setting up a supergroup and opening it to the public, or starting a task force to be a real headache. I'm quite happy to freeload on other people who do so, but I dont think that makes me lazy or the people who set up these things should feel exploited. They're doing what they love, I'm doing what I love, as it should be in a game.
I am one of those folks who tries really hard not to worry about enhancements very much, I slot common lvl 35 IOs at 32... just so I don't have to worry about changing them out much on the ride to 50. -
Quote:I would say, do whatever you want... and make adjustments based on teammate complaints.I was away when it first came out, see i didn't see all the post about it in test or when it hit live, but i've heard about it. I've mostly made natural characters since i'm back so now it's time to have a really flashy character. But.... i always play on lowest setting and i'm color, so i have no idea when my graphics might be a little too much.
Anyone know what kind of effects and what kind of colors are the most likely to give someone sickness? I don't want to incapacitate my whole team. =P
(Still wishes there was a way to turn OFF customization so that you didn't have to see other people's [sometimes] abominations.)
