  1. If I'm going to do TA, I will do it "whole hog" and roll a TA/Archery Defender, or maybe alongside a Ninja MM. So, I guess, I really am a hard guy to please when it comes to controller secondaries.

    Thanks for your input, nonetheless.
  2. I think I stated it in my OP poorly... but I am not a fan of my current concept. I was looking for a new one.

But, perhaps making a suitable costume and some power color alterations could help. Maybe it is just the zombie-ness that is turning me off to him?
  3. Woot for text to background contrast, eh?
  4. I have always felt a sort of pull toward the villains in a story. I feel bad sometimes when they lose, especially if they only lose because they are the "bad guys." And my favorite comic characters were the morally reprehensible like Sinister and Apocalypse.

And yet, it took me some time to start playing redside in this game. Perhaps it was due to the computer issues I used to have with the somewhat more graphically intensive zones, but I just hated the look of it. At some point, I decided that I would get a 50 over there at all cost, and so I did. And I haven't really looked back. Now, I love redside, and have been spending a LOT more time there. Especially since moving our VG over to Justice.

  5. Okies Controller-y folks, I have wanted to roll an Illusion controller for some time now, but I just can't get a concept that I really like. And there are a few secondaries that I am somewhat hesitant to use, which certainly doesn't help. So, I decided, why not try an Ill/Rad, I have heard they rock, and I am enjoying that combination of powers nicely, I just hate the concept I have for the character... So, I need a new one.

    Here are my options:
    • Re-roll the Ill/Rad in such a way so that I can enjoy the character AND his powers. This would be my first choice.
    • Roll some other set as a secondary. This is a fine choice as well, but I really don't want to play Empathy. Also, I already am working on a */Storm and have a Level 50 */FF, so those are right out as well.
    • Keep the character I have, but rework his costume and bio... this is my least favorite option.
At the moment, my character is named The Mask of Tah (he was going to be brought Rogue ASAP) and something just isn't clicking with me. He is a zombie-looking character with the Magic Pack's skull mask. Basically, he is an ancient entity of trickery and deception, named Tah, who was imprisoned within the mask and now yearns for freedom. Some unlucky person put on the mask, and allowed Tah to possess them. Over the years, that person's body has wasted away, and Tah is able to assert full control, leaving Chaos in his wake.

I am not sure what it is, perhaps the look, but I just can't get excited about playing him as he is described above.

Any ideas on what I can do to finally make an Illusion Controller I like?

    [Edited for clarity.]
  6. Might I inquire as to why you wanted to know? It is an oddly specific thing to ask, for seemingly no reason.

Well, there is nothing of use in this thread aside from lots of entertainment value in the form of Schadenfreude... So I would advise you to post in a PvP section and see what kinda responses you get, though lots of PvPers are less than nice.

Personally? I find stone unplayable as it is now. Any changes would probably be a good thing. But that's just one bots opinion.
    Agreed.

Oh man, that is such a hard decision. I think the Rikti War one would be fantastic! It would really put your skills to the test to have the gigantic battles that I envision video-graphisized. If anyone can do it though, you can!
  10. Fantastic!

I have to say the scorned female segments were my favorite... very nice touch, especially the Sister Psyche one.

  12. I have to cast my recommendation for a DM/SR Stalker. It was my first Villain 50 and I still really like playing him, which is rare for me. Also, the build was exceedingly tight... I actually have all of the Primary AND Secondary, a travel pool AND the fitness pool... getting all that stuff to mesh around the somewhat incovenient scheme at which the "required" Stalker powers open up was a bit obnoxious, but the end result was great fun.
  13. Orion, wouldn't it make more sense for the "No Emote" costume change option to be under "Standard" and not "Special"? After all, it is standard to not have an emote to use at all, well at least it was before they were made.

Fleeting Whisper did a post about them being customizable several months ago... or was that a different type of editable menu? I can't recall now and am too lazy to look for the post.

    That was my first thought.

And that this would help Defenders and other ATs that lack damage... what impact would it have on Brutes and Scrappers who solo just fine as is? What about on a full team (I bring this up, because currently the system can only spawn for up to 8 players, what if that is a hard cap in the programming)? Would it not trivialize content if a team of 8 all had such pets, effectively making them a team of 16?
  16. Well, pretty much anything, in a way. After all, GL can make most objects with his ring, and if the character is only "inspired" by GL, then you can stretch things as much as you want. And now, with all the different colors in the GL universe, the powers don't even have to be green!

I made a character that was inspired by GL who was a Shield/BS Scrapper and was festooned in yellow and black. The idea was that he had a gauntlet that could transform his thoughts into solid projections, and he used that ability to create a sword and shield (I was planning to use the Vanguard Sword and energy shield)... he got deleted as the pact he was in fell by the wayside.

Is it really any better to force players resort to adding junk letters to the name to make them syntactically unique, than to just have the system find some way of doing it?

I would never personally accept a name like "xx Darkfaith xx", but I would take "Dark-Faith" if "Darkfaith" was already in use. But nothing will stop some guy after me from taking "xx Darkfaith xx", and then there's this guy out there with an immersion-breaking copy of MY NAME!

So, it's disingenuous to say that such a system would be unacceptably bad, because we already have a system that's equally terrible, which produces exactly the same kind of garbage names that you want to avoid. True, you don't have to give them to your characters, but other people give them to their characters all the time and you have to use them if only to put them on ignore .
You see, there is a simple way to handle the garbage character names that already exist in the game: ignore them.

I try not to team with people who have such names. In my experience, they are lazy and unimaginative. Not qualities I like in a teammate.

However, I and many others don't. I wish you could have heard the reaction at Hero Con when it was suggested that something like this be implemented. More than 95% of the room roared in strong disapproval.

I like the fact that I have to be creative to get a unique (server-wise, anyway) name, and that I know for certain that NOBODY else on my server has that name (if I'm creative enough, nobody on ANY server may have it).

So to me, and apparently a LOT of others, any suggestion that reduces the uniqueness of names is not palatable.
This is my opinion on the issue in a nutshell.... well, it's in a quote box, not a nutshell, but you get the idea. Well at least I should hope you get the idea. Wait, where was I going with this?

While this part is unequivacally true... I don't think it leads to this conclusion:

If only for the reason of: what entity is able to display these badges as a title?

All that being said, I don't think they need to be changed, but I also think that some of them are just plain odd when applied to your standard villain. I see no problem in amending a couple of them to have slightly less "rainbows and butterflies" sounding names.

Though the forthcoming answer does not go along with your hero-only request...

I had the best luck against them on a SR Stalker... and would have had even better luck if I had had it be an Energy Melee or Electric Melee instead of a Dark Melee. I once singlehandedly withstood the combined assault of the CoT that wiped the rest of my team... I gave them enough time to regroup, buff up and finish off the stragglers that were left. And IIRC [Elude] wore off during the fight.

It's much better to just sit back and enjoy the trainwreck.
    You are oh so right.

My Fire Control Kineticist is slotted with nothing better than Lvl 35 common IOs and a coupld KB Protections... and can farm effectively on certain difficulties. If I really wanted, I could Respec into a different epic and go crazy on IOs... but I find farming to be HUGELY tedious and completely unfun. In fact, the only reason I did it at all was just to see what difficulty my poorly done Kin could handle. Now that I know, well, meh.

In summation: Who cares? If your build is "the best possible" then so be it, how does that actually impact ANYONE but yourself? Oh, and by what measure have you said you are the best? Go farm some Knives of Artemis for me... If that were MY yardstick, then I am confident your build would fail. Of course, that is a ridiculous measure, since farming them is stupid, but I think my point is clear.

No problem. It is VERY often confused by people, even those who have spoken English their entire lives. Heck, even "informed" sources like the news media mingle the terms. In truth, it is a pet peave of mine when they get jumbled, so I seem to notice everytime.
