    Whoa.....

I have one and only one question for you: What server was this?
  2. To answer the question in the OP's subject: Nope, not a chance.

PvP being a very minor part, is one of the things that kept me playing this game in the first place, I would love it to stay that way.

Edit: Also, this post is 1337. Aww yeah.
    And then there's this.
  3. Definitely send a petition in-game. Mine was showing that I had 28 months of time.... when according to the date of my last reward, I should have already gotten my 30 month badge.

I sent a petition, and got a response in a day or two that it had to be escalated, then I was told that my rewards had been recalculated and I received my wayward vet badge. Total turnaround time? Four days. Not bad, considering the first petition was filed day after X-Mas.
  4. My issue with Purples is almost (ALMOST) nothing more than a personality quirk. You see, part of the issue is that when I hear something being hyped excessively, and becoming the target of some folks' obsessions, I tend to avoid whatever that is at all costs, it becomes an equal and opposite revulsion (almost) for me. Like a friend of mine realized one day, when he was in his teens, that he had never had gum. Well, everyone is like, oh my god, have a damn stick of gum, and he says no thanks, I have survived this long without it, I certainly don't need any now. And so it is with Purples. But that is only part of it.

The rest of it comes from the fact that of all the activities in the game, slotting is my least favorite. I hate doing it. I spend the least amount of effort possible. To the point where I take the time to slot the fewest times possible. For instance, I slot for the first time on ANY character at level 12, and then keep them up until 22, when I get SOs. Then, at 32, I slot level 35 common IOs, and don't slot anything else on my journey to 50... except for dropping in SOs in the new slots I acquire.

In fact, I almost never even use any set IOs, except for a few of them that have dropped (like an End Mod one, can't recall the name, it was a Proc) and a few -KB ones.

As a tertiary concern, is the fact that I really don't see the need to go above and beyond what I do. I don't play any one character enough to really need or want to get his numbers above what they are with simple IOs and SOs... it isn't worth the drudgery of calculating the numbers and slotting, and marketeering and what not. I play this game to have fun, and that is not fun for me, so I don't do it... and honestly, I have never had a problem where a bit of perseverance hasn't helped... While I'm sure an extra 2% of some stat would fill in the rough spots a bit on various characters, I simply don't care enough, and won't play them enough at 50 to justify it (the only 50s I routinely play are my two badging characters).

    Oh?

Here's his bio, one of my personal favorites I must say:

"Transcript of Therapy with Dr. Meg Franken
Date: 09.18.08 @1103, Re: Chris Allys, Loc: Franken's Office

[Franken] : Chris, lets start off with something you said last session; you said you were a villain.

[Allys] : Honestly, doc, I don't really sit around and think about it. I'm not very introspective you see. I just do as I'm told. Some folks have been rather miffed when I tell 'em their number's up. Ain't my fault exactly.

[F] : Following orders? What exactly do you mean by that?

((At this time, a monarch butterfly lands on a nearby windowsill))

[A] (To the butterfly) : ...Right, okay. But, ahhh, these sessions are court-ordered Clyde... Uh huh. Yeah, I'll get right on it.

[F] (Baffled) : Are you talking to that butterfly?!

[A] (To Franken) : Yeah, o' course. That would be Clyde. I guess this concludes our session. (Gets up to leave) Clyde says I need to bust some heads. That guy sure has a way with words don't he?"

With throwing Pollux in there, it is odd that you didn't add Castor. And that is a GREAT idea for future characters. But, I have names for both now.
  7. Nice concept there, with the more accurate type of fairy. Can't say I would have thought of that due to the common image of a fairy tale princess' type fairy.

That's all well and good but, I for one, will not slot a purple even if I get one.
  8. Oh so very much... some kinda help that was, if I had wanted to get banned, I wouldn't have needed to ask for any help on that one.

  10. For the Ill/Rad, I had thought about a name focusing on the star design on his chest... but everything I thought of was a bit cheesy, thanks for the assistance so far, guys.

I don't use Purples, but thanks anyway.
  12. [Edit: Thanks to all those with serious suggestions, but I now have names for both characters: Chris Allys (thanks to Pum), and Mantis Engine which I was able to come up with (I changed his concept to being the invention of the scientist, and not the scientist himself).]

I have two characters (one brand new, and one a transfer from a different server) that are in need of some names, unfortunately, I am drawing a complete blank.

    Here's what they look like:

And now for some biographical information:
The one on the left, is a Natural Axe/WP Brute. He was recently released from jail, and has court-ordered therapy sessions. Basically, psychiatrists are convinced that he is delusional and believes a butterfly is commanding him to do various crimes... most recently the attempted murder of a police officer.

In reality, he really does hear the "flutter-by" (as the character calls him) talk to him, and really isn't crazy, except that he lets a butterfly tell him what to do...

He will only be wearing "normal" clothing and isn't really a super-villain in any sense of the word, so a name that is less "flashy" than the standard would do him well.
    ____________________

The one on the right, is a Technology Ill/Rad Controller. He is a gadegetteer who has created an array of devices, most of which are powered by fusion reactors.

His story is less fleshed out, but he has watched as countless inventions, inventors, scientists and research gets funneled into the evil of the city. He has seen the name of science get dragged through the mud and get blamed for all manner of evils. In fact, he has sold some of his technology to Mueller Industries, a company owned and operated by who he discovers is a super-villain himself! This is the last straw, he decides to use his inventions to fight crime, especially corporations like Crey and Mueller Industries.

Something classically super-heroic would fit him nicely.

    Thanks in advance, Justice!

@Konshu: Wow man, that rune idea is pretty flipping fantastic! Remind me to send you a PM next time I need an idea! And I had to laugh a bit too about the duct tape.

It is, you just spelled it incorrectly. Allot means to "set aside a certain amount."

Also, this reminds me of another grammar pet peave of mine. Adverbs. It seems no one (which reminds me that "noone" is not, nor should it ever be a word) really knows what they are or how to use them. Everyone just goes for the adjective these days, because, well, I don't know really. Ignorance?

    Example:
Drive safe going home, the roads are icey.

Safe is an adjective, and can only describe a NOUN, whereas the word "safely" is an adverb and can, as the word implies, describe VERBS. It infuriates me to see billboards and other public media constantly killing the poor adverb, I mean, what did it ever do to you? Aside from describing your actions succinctly and gloriously?

And yet another one that bugs the heck out of me: between. "Between" should only be used when talking about two things. "The wig is between the cow and the rototiller." NOT to be used to say things like, "Between the three of us, there is a porpoise." "Among," is the word you are looking for people, AMONG!

And another thing: the comma goes INSIDE the quotation mark, as does a period! Exclamation points and question marks depend on the usage and are more complicated, but those other two are absolutes, dang it!

In this same vein, but incorrect, is my favorite set of contractions of all time. It is too bad that I am positive it is not grammatically correct to use them: the double contraction!!

I'll've butchered that marsupial by the time you get back.

She'd've drunk that penguin under the table, if you'd've let her!

Man, if only those were "real," if only.... *laments*
  18. Mine are placed in 3 rooms, instead of two. And arranged almost precisely as Justaris suggested. Except that Atlas has its own pad, seeing as how it is so oft traveled, I decided to give it its own dedicated access, and PI and RWZ are in the center each on their own as well. Then, I have another room that only has the Pocket D teleporter, and connected to that room, are all the remaining hazard zone TPers.

    So:

[City Zones] -> [Pocket D] -> [Hazard Zones]

I find it to be a rather intuitive system, and works just fine for us.

I have also seen it organized based on what areas branch from where. So, AP and Perez would share a spot, Steel and Boomtown would share, IP and TV, etc. This one is slightly harder to organize, as several zones attach to PP for instance, but it often ends up making a lot of sense as well.

Thanks again for the words of advice, Local. I don't think any of my characters except for one* is punny or less than serious. Names are SRS BZNS... but after that, they are all me and as fun as the team will let me be. To me, if I can't take the character part seriously, it just isn't going to be a character I will want to step into, which I guess is a bit odd, since I almost never role-play.

I think I am going to go with the gadetteer character, and thereby the Ill/Rad, which is ultimately what I really wanted to make anyway.

    Now for a name...

    * = I just made a guy on Freedom *shudders* that is named Sewer Breath, he is a rather hideous Lost-like character who will ONLY gain XP via sewer runs (I might try to do the sewer trial with him if I ever get that far)... right now he is at 6 after a part of a run, we shall see how often I play him and how far he gets.
  21. Okay, here are two sets of costumes that I came up with to match the aforementioned concepts.

The first one is either an arctic explorer/adventurer or perhaps a product tester for Viper Clothing who got lost on a glacier. In either case, he gets his delusiony/cold powers from some sort of interaction betwixt his environment and his innate physiology and winds up with powers. He decides to do good/evil with them (this may be a candidate to go rogue).

The second one is a guy who specializes in fusion-powered gadgetry and has donned a costume and gauntlets that can project holograms and emit radiation to various effects.

I really have no idea which one I want to go with at this point.
  22. Thanks a lot for the extremely well thought out post. I appreciate your suggestions, but I hit a wall when I get to the Magician concept... the Ice/Storm Controller I am currently leveling is of Magic origin and all of his powers are due to a magician type feel (including the hat and cloak in his costume). Since his powers were acquired from a mystical source, he figured why not go full bore and really look the part.

However, you are right, the Magician idea really would fit the concept the best.

Of course you do bring up a good point that the various effects could easily be explained via technological devices. Perhaps I should go with a gadgeteer character (something I haven't really done) and make him sort of a cyborgy Batman? Hmmmmm.

That is precisely what I was thinking. In fact, I read that hypothermia victims are often combative toward rescuers in late stages of freezing, perfectly meshing with [Deceive].

Dang, now I am torn... Ill/Rad or Ill/Cold. Very different concepts I would be going with... one would be, I guess, Natural and some sort of explorer and the other would be Technological. The Ill/Cold could also be the result of cryogenic experimentation... Geez, now I seem to have the opposite problems.

I endorse this message, I too am a jerk.

All kidding aside, I loathe the idea of appending global names. It can make nice, names, like Apparition look like crap, if played by a dumb player: Apparition@J3rkPants12.
  24. Short Answer: There is no best. Alternatively, define "best."

    Longer Answer: See Bill's post.
  25. Some interesting ideas there.

I think I may have just thought of an interesting idea... what if I go Ill/Cold and play the Illusions as delusions caused by hypothermia? It is a matter of fact, that people see and feel odd things as they experience hypothermia... perhaps that could work.

Hmmmm, maybe some arctic adventurer who himself experiences his own delusions after a brush with death at the hands of the icey north? Does that have a snowball's chance in heck? (I know, bad pun.)
