Last I knew, Paragon Studios didn't publish subscription numbers anymore. So, that would mean there isn't a site that has reliable statistics... unless some dev has defected to a random website to give them some kind of inside information.

Also... if a game is going to wane, this would be the time. CoH/V has been around for, what, close to 6 years... and now we are on the cusp of what (I hope) will be a giant expansion we have heard little about in the last few months. Many, and I mean MANY, people are unsubbing until GR drops, and I can guarantee we won't just get people re-upping either when it does. We will be getting new subscriptions once that box hits the shelves. Also, keep in mind that from an anecdotal persepctive, I am seeing new subscribers in Paragon/Rogue Isles every time I log in.
  2. Yeah, over a full month... but it was worth the wait. He looks pretty sweet, if a bit technicolor-dream-coatish.

'Tis true. Though I have done duos of characters with my BF that are related, they could meet... and level pact (one set were brothers, and another were partners... they are Praetorian heroes who are acting as double-agents within Arachnos: versions of Shadow Spider and Viridian).

I think this point right here, is the crux of the issue. I wouldn't mind the somewhat insane difficulty of the missions if the abilities gained were of a scale of magnatude better than the hero APPs... but they aren't. For a long time, many were far worse.

I am somewhat hoping that Villains are given APPs in GR, and that Heroes are given a line of PPPs (Manti, Psyche, etc.).
  5. I've gotten my Mercs/Poison to level 20... and haven't really experienced any problems. Of course, that really isn't all that good of a sample of one, I can't even slot SOs yet.

My only issue seems to be the apparent squishiness of the pets... or perhaps that is a lack in the secondary to keep them alive. We shall see how it pans out once I get into the 30s.
  6. Defense is pretty much better across the board. However, I think this is especially true on "squishies," like Controllers. They have far less HP, and so can't suck up the hits that they will be taking if you focus on Resists (albeit smaller hits, but more of 'em).

With regard to your slotting question? Do whatever you feel you should do. If you think that the power is underperforming, adjust it... that's what respecs are for. I, personally, adhere to the philosophy about giving a fish vs. teaching to fish when it comes to build questions.

My second 50 was a Dark/Dark Defender. I greatly enjoyed that character... except that the heal seemed to only miss when I really need it.

Also, to contribute to your anecdotal evidence: recently I have seen TAs apologize for not having a heal after I have invited them to a team. I actually /e boggled. I told them that TA is a good set, and I am glad I have one on the team... and that any jerk who makes you feel like you need to apologize is just that: a jerk.

As the subject does pretain to theme, its starting to become the main forcus of me playing the game, and sends me to pick some odd choices for power sets.
This is all the game has ever really been about for me. Period.

My next project is a Vangaurd Themed Scrapper, that will be using Claws and Invln for the themed choices, and will be a Natural Scrapper. It will be taken to the RWZ as soon as it can to gain access to the Vanguard Laser Claws, as well as the Vanguard Armor Pieces for his costume to make him be a Civilian who joined the Vanguard, due to his family being killed in a invasion, and wants revenge.I think it would be pretty cool to have my own Vanguard Soldier!
I just have to ask one question... try not to take it the wrong way. If you are bothered by cookie-cutter builds, then why is it that doing a character concept hundreds if not thousands of characters already have doesn't bother you?

    Quote:
I have a few more concepts in mind, but, I wanna hear if anyone else has any ideas to make themed characters, and if so, what kind?
All of my characters have some sort of theme. All of my characters have a back-story written in their bio box (or soon will).

At the moment, I am trying NOT to make any new characters, as the ones I have are plenty. [Click the image in my sig for a sampling of them.]
  8. A lot of my characters have connections to one another. And that's aside from the SG/VG connection which I have downplayed (all of my heroes are in the same SG, and all of my villains share a VG).

    • Mender Cocytus and Svyx Qordlin are related through an accident of sorts, though I don't think they really know what happened to connect them... if they even know about each other. Svyx was trying to escape from a prison dimension just as Cocytus was time-travelling to a spot that was "connected" to Svyx's location. As a result, Svyx's otherwise failed attempt succeded, and Cocytus was thrown off course, and frozen in space (giving him additional super powers).

    • My main hero, Wylde-Fire was in a relationship with my deleted Blaster who was the brother of my second Stalker.

    • Schwarzpunkt (my first Stalker and first redside 50) owns a company that has spawned a soon to be vigilante Hero infected with what amounts to be a technological virus (Spines/Elec Scrapper), and one of my MMs, Ophidius Rex, a scientist who used to work for Scwarz's company... until his cloning process paid off. Now, Ophidius has an army of Mercs and has split off from Schwarz's company. Also, there is Mantis Engine, who was created bu a guy who got pissed that he ended up unknowingly selling his inventions to a villain (Schwarz) who used them to commit crimes. Now, Mantis's inventor has dedicated his life to crime fighting via his creation.

    • There's Jon Zander whose family was slain by my brute, Chris Allys an Axe/WP. They are also connected by a mysterious magical entity who appears to Chris as a butterfly to give him instructions (and is his impetus for criminality) and saved Jon's life by granting him regeneration and raising him from the dead. In other words, the "butterfly" created both of them. I was going to make the butterfly as an actual character, but I think I like him better as an unseen player.
  9. To provide a mostly useless, albeit very exact answer to the question you posted as your title: yes, I am sure there are many people who play that combination. I, however, am not one of them.

  11. What Mac said.

(I may not always like/agree with what he says, but this time... he so totally nailed it!)
  12. I recall helping a Stone Brute with this mission on my DM/SR Stalker. It wasn't horrible... but he had a glaring hole to Psi damage (which is everywhere in this mission) and I had to wait for Elude to be available for each of the Fonts (which, considering the map is 89.8 miles wide, wasn't a big wait). All in all it wasn't that bad.... no wait, it sucked, and it was really annoying, for both of us.

[If you can't tell, I was downplaying the suck factor for comedic effect. If I failed at the funny, go find a joke you like, and pretend I used that one instead.]
  13. LMAO regarding this whole thread.

However, I figured it was about time someone counterbalances the huge type, with something a bit... smaller

As wild as that speculation may be... it is a rather logical one.

It might also have to do with my PM regarding Granite Armor and whether or not they are changing it...
  16. Might I point out, that other sets, too have holes that cause issues. Psi is a popular hole in defensive armors, as is Fear, another one being Endurance Drain. Dark Armor has a level of protection against each of those, and simply lacks KB. On Fire? Well, I am a bit confused on the thingking behind it. Yes it has a high damage component compared to most other Armors... but it seems to be a touch more "holey" than others.
  17. So... what I am hearing you say is that you want the KB Protection removed from Willpower and Ice Armor because it doesn't makes sense conceptually... and added in to Dark and Fire Armor instead.

    Is that right?
  18. I am greatly looking forward to the start of Beta. I can't wait to see what things look like... and also point out flaws in grammar and costume parts.

    First, a tip on searching.
    1. Click on "Search" up at the top of the forum.
    2. On the left, under "Forum(s) to search," select "Suggestions and ideas."
    3. On the right, Keyword Search Terms. This is probably where your problem was if you did search. Try the following, exactly as typed:

    +vehicle -"re: "

This will search for anything with the string "vehicle" in the title. The -re: portion of it removes replies, so you'll see the root of every thread that comes up, letting you see just how many threads there are on this. (The last helps for other subjects, as well.)

Be sure to put the space between the colon and last quote.

    4. Click the "In subject" radio button. This is a search, not a cute blonde in a bikini. Here, you want to ignore the body.

    5. Leave Username Search blank.

    6. Date range, Newer Than, change the 1 to a 3, and the time to Months.

    7. Result format doesn't matter. Click on "Submit."

Now, on to the topic at hand....

    Short answer, don't expect it.

    Long answer:
There are a lot of problems with the idea.

    1. Movement.
Forward and back, even turning - ok. But you can do things that a vehicle can't - such as strafe (direct side to side or angular movement.) It doesn't work with a vehicle.

    2. Terrain.
Not every place has roads, or even makes sense for "off roading." Go look at Founder's Falls. Go look at Crey's Folley. Or Eden. Try to get to the north islands in Talos. What, do you have a kubelwagen? Look at the Pit in Sharkshead. Try to use your travel power (car) to get up to some of the doorways in high caves. Cars and motorcycles would be more like Superspeed - horizontal movement, period. And look - I'll be blunt - flat out *stupid* tied with, say, Combat Jumping or Superjump.

    3. Combat.
You get ambushed on the way. How do you fight? Just have your powers blast out of the rolled up windows? How do you buff or debuff? EVERY power would need a new animation. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. Then you want people with motorcycles instead of cars. Redo ALL the animations AGAIN. And they still wouldn't make sense - how do you use Footstomp in a car? Or Stalagmites?

    4. Customizing.
Yeah, it would come up. Not everyone would want a sports car, or a mid-70s Buick boat, or an exotic, or a minivan, or whatever else.

    5. Making "sense."
This was touched on in terrain - how do you get across water? How about the Shadow Shard? And if you want downright ridiculous looking, go do the heroside 25-34 Respec. Look at the Sky Skiffs inside of rooms or the reactor room. It makes no sense and looks *ridiculous.* Something that, yes, the devs try to avoid.

That's just a quick overview of some of the issues with having vehicles as a travel power.

Not really a power set per se, but I would love to see personal transports such as: steeds, hover crafts, motorcycles, etc.
    1. Which, means what exactly? Perhaps if you were a bit more vague, well... you couldn't have been.

    2. I assume you mean as a new Control set? This could be intriguing... but is a bit too specific to be a really good set, depending on how one interprets this suggestion of course.

    3. Not gonna happen. Basically the Devs have said that in order to make a water set they are pleased with... the minimum specs of the game would have to go up, and that would alienate current players.

    4. As a melee set? I don't see how this would work in any way that wouldn't look stupid. Plus, Standard Code Rant.

    5. Again... what does this mean exactly? Is this a debuff set? An armor set? And if either, what would it do?

    6. I am vehemently opposed to "mounts" in this game. Notably, for all the reasons listed in Bill's Cut-and-Paste response (I am sure if this thread lasts long enough, someone will dig it up).

Albeit nitpicky of me, I feel I have to comment on this line. Just what, exactly, constitutes "correct" slotting? Unless people are going out of their way to be annoying, or ignoring things like ED Caps... well, I just don't see a "wrong" way.

In fact, many somewhat unconventional slottings can be justified. So, I guess I just don't know what you mean.

I don't even need to quibble on your use of an absolute like "impossible;" that word alone kills whatever point you were going for in the above statement.

    Bah sore subject with me.
Ummm, I think you are under the mistaken impression that the person (or people) who work on one aspect of the game (mission design) have some sort of mystical control over other parts of the game (bug fixing: which itself is a myriad of different things).

It's akin to asking BaB to fix a Task Force... it ain't gonna happen (unless of course, the bug in the TF is related directly to an animation, which seems a touch unlikely).

    Bwuh?

I specifically took [Provoke] on my MM to get the aggro onto me. Why would I want it on the pets, they take my damage, I don't want them to get their own too. Of course, I do solo with him a lot, so that might have something to do with it.

And yes, the attacks do use a lot more endurance than a standard attack on, say, a Blaster... but they have their uses. I usually take one of them (but never all three).
