That's why you should make these costumes with the AE editor... you have access (potentially) to ALL of the different pieces, even those that are unlocks or specialty.

I don't know what to think about that. I guess I'm like Marcian. Get rid of it. As I said before, it's a galvanizing topic, the sort of thing that makes people go "He does WHAT!? Oh, Hell no!"
And to me, even if it had been a mistake that didn't make anyone do that, I would be all for them changing it. I think the game should be as the Devs intended... not as they "accidented" (err... it's a word now ).

  6. The only guess I can make as to whether or not our hope will occur, Dispari, is that they were vehement about rolling out a VEAT so that the sides would have equal ATs... it would make sense to me that they would want to have the epic/patron pools be as equal. Though, that is a long shot.

Any thoughts on who the Hero Patrons would be? What the Villain Epics could be?

In my mind, the Patrons would be probably: Positron, Sister Psyche, Synapse and maybe Manticore. It is truly hard to pick just four... As far as Epics go, there would have to be fire, dark, plant, pychic, munitions, energy, etc.

And this is a moral argument against it... based on the idea that abuse is wrong, and therefore incest is wrong because it is a form of abuse. This gets at the root of the issue for me with this whole incest discussion: what if it isn't abuse? How does one define, abuse? Is the abuse aspect the only thing that makes incest wrong, or is it wrong inherently?

    Consider the following:

(Let's make sure that we divorce our discussion of superheroes...) What if two gay twin brothers have intimate relations? Technically that is incest, but it doesn't produce any of the ill effects in offspring that we have discussed, nor does it necessarily involve any sort of power dynamic (though it could, I suppose). Of course, one would have to put any bias against homosexuality aside in order to consider this example properly.

P.S. Just so we are clear, I can't say that I am personally for incestuous relationships, but I am having a great deal of fun discussing it. Playing devil's advocate is wildly entertaining for me. Also, with some of your last comments Mr. Grey, it appears as though you may be at least somewhat annoyed. I think it is best to not take these posts as trying to impugn your position or your character... but rather simply to explore what things boil down to, and the basis for these various claims. I know I said it before, but to me, this is purely academic.

Of course, it's not like we really do have a lot of story to work with on that one. I'm going by the fact that, up until now, he was an evil *******, the opposite of his fine, upstanding alternate in Prime Earth, and that his relationship with Dominatrix was supposed to be the final nail in the coffin to show how far gone he was. I'm assuming that Dominatrix is downright warped and insane, leaping into a situation like this because, frankly, her moral compass is smashed to crap.
This is not aimed at you in particular, but I have to ask for some clarification here. Isn't: "[Dominatrix] caught Tyrant's attention and has been serving him loyally, in all capacities, ever since." the only reference we have to go on here? I guess I just have to wonder where any of this other stuff is coming from.

But then, they're supposed to be "rebooted..." So maybe this won't even be an issue later...

Of course, if that's the case, I still demand the current Praetorian missions and arcs be changed to reflect the change... But I'm pretty certain that's not going to happen.
I am confident that the current arcs will be scrapped and updated in a similar fashion to how the cape mission was updated after the time capsule opened.

At the very least, we can assume the new character models will be used... presumably with new bios.

Of all the things that have been hinted at, and of all the questions that the Devs answered at Hero Con... this was not one of them, and as such, remains to be seen.

I soooo wish I knew though. My gut feeling is that either a third type of pool will be created that will include all 11 ATs that have access to an Epic/Patron or 2 new pools will be created: a hero Patron pool and a villain epic pool.

I actually really want the second, but I don't know. It may just be that a solution along the lines of the markets is put into place.

Plus, it tells me you can't come up with a proper way to defend your opposing point of view. You provide examples of it happening throughout history (which illustrated the fallibility of my absolute on its own, but you kept hamming on that like it was important), but the examples are shot down by the weight of their own end results. They illustrate my point just as readily.
Well, in the interest of actually "arguing" then... I will lay aside semantics if you will (not that you have used that as a tactic... yet).

I guess I keep wondering why you have brought up genetic issues and birth defects via incest so much on one hand, and then used terminology such as "unforgivable sin" on the other. It has me confused: is your argument a logical one (incest has bad results, therefore don't do it) or a moral one (incest is wrong) or is it both?

Which, I suppose, brings me to another point. Compare, if you will, a genetic anomaly that crops up in a child of a consensual act of incest to a baby born with some genetic condition that the parents knew there was a good chance of it getting based on their own genetic predisposition. Does that mean that it is unforgivable also for known carriers of genetic diseases to reproduce? The same effect is created in the child (genetic problems) and the same knowledge is basically present (most people know that incest can bring about issues in their children). I am pointing this out to see just where you would draw the line. If one is bad, why not the other?

Well, that's reassuring... Be wary that the people around you don't take advantage of your trusting nature. Your attitude is a good one to have when heads are getting hot.
Trust me, I am about the most cynical and guarded person I know. Few take advantage of the trust I do mete out... because it is not given lightly. What I expressed to you earlier was my ability to step back a bit and look at words for what they really are. Something I am only good at when not arguing fervently. At this point, it is purely intellectual for me. I have no emotional stake in this.

There are worse things in the world than murder. I always thought it strange that maiming isn't regarded as serious a crime. If anything it's worse, you have deformed or crippled somebody for life, but "hey, at least you didn't kill him..."
You know, I think I agree with you. But it would be very hard to make practical. Imagine prison terms and murder rates as a result... You get life for making someone lose a finger, but only 10 years (or something) for murder. I think that people who busted each other up in a fight pretty bad would just finish the job in order to have it easier.

You haven't given me a proper argument, either. You demand that I shouldn't deal in absolutes... Yes, I know that.
No, I was not trying to make you feel bad, perhaps others were... my only goal was to point out that flaw in your argument, and if you were able to prove your statement I would have then been able to continue with any points I might have had. I felt that the statement I called out seemed to be the biggest most important "fact" you had, so I refuted it. That is argument, isn't it? Statement, and refutation, counter-statement, refutation... And I am not sure where you got that I was in any way trying to defend imaginary people. That wasn't my aim at all.

It's essentially all I've been given. Even when "Well, royalty did it..." was brought up, it was also pointed out that they wound up with defective offspring down the line, which I feel negates the argument.
I suppose you are correct here.

Some sins are unforgivable. This is one of my few lines in the stone that I feel is absolute. I will not support a monster just because he provides a convenience.
Well, I guess that is where we differ. I don't believe in "sin." And I will never be able to say any one thing is "unforgivable," there will always be extenuating circumstances I can come up with in which it would, indeed, be forgivable, or even moral to do something. It might, in a given bizarre scenario, be the only morally just action. I just can't abide absolutes, period. (Well, except maybe that one.... >.>)

Your disagreeing with me does not make me condemn you. I can't judge you by what you say, but what you do, and I don't know you or your works.

That is truly, and I mean this, an admirable stance to take on judging others. I only wish I were as just as that.

And, no, I do not think you are a terrible person. What I do believe, is that you are the type of person who can draw a line in the sand and say, "this, I cannot stand" and you mean it. Me? There are always extenuating circumstances. Even incest, even murder.

And in the end, you have not really argued anything but: "I feel this way, regardless of reasoning, regardless of facts and will continue to feel that way. You guys really should just agree with me." Does that sum it up?

I guess I can't look at just ONE dimension of a character (one that could have been poor editing in the original canon) and call a character "evil" automatically, without considering other details.

But... do we want them back? Speaking from my own experience (albeit limited) I have never met a player in a PvP zone who was worth appreciating as a player, they have all been jerks. And most of the folks who I know of who PvP are making the obnoxious farm missions in AE and being jerks when they do anything else.

  22. I had a couple powers wrong, and so the OP is now fixed for those.

Unless someone finds some more powers I missed in this initial pass, I believe I have below all the icons that "should" be changed. Now, all I need to know is how to format them so that they will work with the game.

You can go here for the final results!

What is humorous about this, is I am almost certain that the original usage was dismissive in nature... as in "pointless thread is pointless, you can tell by the author." *shrugs* I guess missing the point is par for the course though.
  24. Okay folks, I was wondering if you could help me out a bit, seeing as how, amongst us, we have played around with every power in the game. Obviously, I have not.

I recently played around with the Traps set, and noticed something rather annoying. There is currently one icon type in this game to represent two very different applications, and it frustrated me a bit. The issue is the two different ways that location based effects are placed. They can be dropped, and they can be summoned to a particular location. I think it would be great if the icon made the functionality apparent on site.

So, on to the project: In the spirit of Vanden's Icon Pack, I want to alleviate this problem (at the least, for me, and at best, I hope they can be included in Vanden's pack... we shall see on this last one) by altering the icon used by all of the powers that "drop" so that it is different from those that "summon." In order to do this, I will need to compile a list of all of the powers that do either of these things, and make sure I have them in the right group... BEFORE I make any changes. That, is where you come in!

What follows is the list I have at present. Are any wrong? Are any missing? Etc.

“Summons” — Powers that, when activated, allow the player to select a location that the power will affect via a “reticle.” (Icons in this category, will remain unchanged.)

[Archery: Rain of Arrows], [Assault Rifle: Ignite], [Cold Domination: Sleet], [Earth Control: Animate Stone], [Earth Control: Earthquake], [Earth Control: Quicksand], [Earth Control: Volcanic Gasses], [Devices: Caltrops], [Ice Blast: Freezing Rain?], [Ice Blast: Blizzard], [Ice Blast: Ice Storm], [Ice Control: Jack Frost], [Ninjitsu: Caltrops], [Plant Control: Spirit Tree], [Sonic Resonance: Liquefy], [Storm Summoning: Tornado], [Thorny Assault: Thorntrops], [Traps: Force Field Generator], [Traps: Caltrops], [Traps: Seeker Drones], [Trick Arrow: Disruption Arrow], [Trick Arrow: Glue Arrow], [Trick Arrow: Oil Slick Arrow], [Dark Miasma: Dark Servant], [Dark Miasma: Tar Patch], [Electrical Blast: Voltaic Sentinel], [Fire Blast: Rain of Fire], [Fire Control: Bonfire], [Fire Control: Fire Imps], [Flame Mastery: Bonfire], [Gravity Control: Singularity], [Ice Mastery: Ice Storm], [Illusion Control: Phantasm], [Illusion Control: Phantom Army], [Illusion Control: Spectral Terror], [Necromancy: Zombie Horde], [Necromancy: Litch], [Necromancy: Grave Knight], [Ninjas: Call Genin], [Ninjas: Call Jounin], [Ninjas: Oni], [Mercenaries: Soldiers], [Mercenaries: Spec Ops], [Mercenaries: Commando], [Plant Control: Carrion Creeper], [Plant Control: Fly Trap], [Robotics: Battle Drones], [Robotics: Assault Bot], [Robotics: Protector Bot], [Thugs: Call Thugs], [Thugs: Call Enforcer], [Thugs: Call Bruiser], [Temporary Power: Raid Deploy Pylon], [Temporary Power: War Wolf Whistle]

“Drops” — Powers that, when activated, affect the area immediately around the player’s current location. No reticle is used for these powers. (Icons in this category will be altered, it is subtle, but I think it will be enough to make them distinguishable. Suggestions are welcome regarding the outer border.)

[Fire Manipulation: Burn], [Fiery Aura: Burn], [Devices: Gun Drone], [Devices: Trip Mine], [Devices: Time Bomb], [Storm Summoning: Lightning Storm], [Traps: Poison Trap], [Traps: Triage Beacon], [Traps: Trip Mine], [Traps: Poison Trap], [Traps: Acid Mortar], [Luminous Blast: Photon Seekers]

(Note: This list was compiled based on a pair of lists I found on the Wiki. Namely, this one, and this one.)

I can agree with what you're saying, though.
What do you think about the proposed Icons themselves? If you want, I would be willing to compile a list of them, and see what can be done. I would just love to see that functionality included in your pack!

    Quote:
City of Data says Triage Beacon works on any ally, not just teammates.
Ahhhh, I think I had the wrong idea of what the teammate border really meant. Perhaps there should be a marker on the ring indicating ally or enemy? But holy crap would THAT be a monumental task! At least my other idea, is pretty narrow in scope: a single class of powers.

[Edit] I found out that there are a TON more powers that use a targeting reticle then those that don't (powers I have termed "drops"). Dropped pets and AoEs, therefore, were the ones that got the new icon treatment. Was A LOT less work then I thought. I simply created a "mask" of a few pixels to cover the two areas on an ordinary "summon" ring so that it looks like a downward facing cone border, I think it conveys the effect quite nicely.

Without further ado, here are the icons I have come up with, what do you think? I would be honored if you used them... *hint hint*

[Fiery Aura: Burn], [Fire Manipulation: Burn], [Devices: Trip Mine], [Devices: Time Bomb],
[Devices: Gun Drone], [Traps: Time Bomb], [Traps: Trip Mine], [Traps: Poison Trap],
[Traps: Acid Mortar], [Traps: Triage Beacon], [Storm Summoning: Lightning Storm],
    [Luminous Blast: Photon Seekers]

The thread in which I gathered the intel for this is here, which refers back to this one.
