When I realized I was leading a team of free players, still learning the game, I decided to take it slow. So they could have ample time to read the enemy bio's and etc. After pointing out the boss in the 2nd mob I realized they didn't even know about the info screen.

The pace of gameplay these days, combined with the 'Just wanna bash skulls' mentality that accompanies the free crowd, leaves very few of us to care about lore.
Well given that most people aren't even doing the starter content, they're just farming DfB from 1-20, it's hardly surprising. People don't want content, they want to get to level 20 (for some inexplicable reason that they're unable to properly articulate) as fast as humanly possible. I don't even really get why as Freebies only have 2 character slots and can't do Incarnate stuff, so it's not even as it they can roll loads of alts or just play endgame stuff.
  2. It's bugged, anyone with a renewal date between the Freedom launch and this Thursday might not have had their stuff yet and should get it this week sometime.

Personally, I've had my first lot of reward points (yesterday) but not my PPs and my renewal date is the 20th.

    Both?

Find out next week, same bat-time, same bat-channel. (assuming some one finds out by next week.)
The devs have said a couple of times that the problem with scabbards and the like isn't designing them and attaching them to the models, it's that as it stands they can't make them dynamic. So you can have your scabbard, but it's got to either always have a sword in it or always be empty (yes you could get around it with multiple costumes, but that isn't always an option) and so they don't want to half-implement them.

I'm not sure how they "talk" given that they're not even functional robots, presumably it's all a psychic projection and you just *think* they're talking.
  5. Defiant has certainly been a lot busier the last few weeks, can't really speak for any of the other servers.
  6. There's no sure-fire way to tell, it basically comes down to how generous or lenient any GM who happens to see your character is feeling at the time and whether or not anyone petitions you (which generally only happens when you really take the piss and rip off well known character names and looks).

Well not everyone has Omega clearance.

I agree with everything you've said apart from this; I actually *like* having non-combat parts of story arcs that aren't just "Go talk to this contact". In fact, Leonard's arc is probably one of my favourite in the game for exactly this reason.

    Unlocking TFs

I don't believe so, but it's been a while since I've done either on a toon that didn't have the contact unlocked so I can't easily check.
  10. Please note the difference between a Speed Run and a quicker run. The former being an attempt to run the content as fast as humanly possible, the latter being an attempt to skip unnecessary parts of the content. This is the difference between a 15 minute ITF, a 45 minute ITF and a 2 hour ITF.

For example, the "Defeat Security Chief And His Men" missions on Manti are on gigantic maps that can take upwards of an hour to clear if you kill everything. Stealthing to the Named Boss (if not to TP the team then at least to locate him) does not make it a speed run, it makes it an "I don't have 4 hours to dedicate to this TF" run.

A lot of the old TF content is like this (don't let's get started on the Shadow Shard TFs ) and so even for new players it's often beneficial to run them in an "optimal" way, that isn't speed running. *Explaining* this to new players goes a long way towards helping the situation.

That said, if you're doing a "real" Speed Run, say so upfront.
  11. It looks like the same problem a lot of people are getting at the moment which is that 2Gb basically isn't enough RAM to run the game and all the other bits and pieces needed to keep Windows up and running.

The real "solution" is to stick a 64-bit operating system and a couple of gigs more RAM into your PC, but in the interim there is a "workaround" posted here: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=273543 which might help you. Please read the whole thread so that you're aware of the caveats.
  12. Wrong, it's $10 for a single costume slot for *all* characters on your account.
  13. For no good reason it's not available in the UK until Thursday. Though I have no doubt it's already on sale in some shops because nobody seems to care about release dates these days.
  14. If he died once that doesn't sound so survivable...

However, DM is generally a good set for survivability as it provides ToHit debuffs, less resisted damage (Negative Energy), a Self Heal, a self Damage/ToHit buff and an End Recovery power. Though it does lack in terms of AoE damage.
  15. Sorry, it's a good idea, I'm just a little jaded; I appreciate *why* we always get screwed over on the downtime, but the apparent lack of effort to make it a little easier for us hasn't gone unnoticed.
  16. Sister Jocasta is even worse, when running her tip mission yesterday she insisted on running off along a corridor, down some stairs and across a room to attack a group that weren't even on the way out of the map, aggroing everything along the way.

I wish I could have just left her to die.
  17. And miss out on the chance to mess with EU players? Inconceivable!
  18. OK, here's one; why would anybody without superpowers choose to live in Paragon City? I mean, for all the supposed heroes running around, it's got a serious crime problem with muggings on every corner, tens of different groups of organised villains roaming the streets, whole areas of the city cordoned off as hazard zones and at least one alien invasion in progress.

If you're just a regular Joe, what's your reason to be there? If you're a good guy you're never going to achieve anything that outshines all the heroes and there's a good chance that if you do some villain will move in and have you killed and if you're of the criminal mindset then even the most audacious scheme is going to be easily foiled by any number of caped crusaders.

One could put forward the idea that *every* city is basically the same in the CoX universe so it doesn't really matter where you live, but for the sake of a decent argument, let us assume that Paragon is more or less unique in its ecosystem (besides, I'm betting most of those other cities don't have their own Hamidon).
  19. You know that's a sickeningly expensive build for not a lot of benefit. For comparison, here's a cheap build that I put together for a friend (LoTG Defence IOs being the most expensive parts but even if you swapped the LoTGs out for Serendipitys you'd only lose a little HP and Regen) with almost universally better stats than your build - and you could probably get the whole thing for the cost of your 5 Gladiator's Armor IOs.

Obviously my build doesn't have much in the way of +Recharge, +Damage or +Acc but then that wasn't my remit

  20. More specifically, you can earn Reward Tokens by any of the following:

    1 per month subscribed
    1 per year subscribed
1 per retail box code applied to your account (you can probably still find them cheap in stores or online)
1 for your first purchase of PP
    1 per 1,200 PPs purchased

Reward Tokens should be awarded at the end of the billing period, points *should* be awarded at the start but anyone whose billing date was between the Freedom launch and this Thursday might not have had them yet and they should be awarded this week. I haven't had anything yet, so I don't know what's WAI and what isn't.
  22. I've thrown a quick PM their way, so hopefully one of them will get a chance to take a look and see if there's anything they can do to help

Paypal say that about everyone, they also say it about you when they randomly freeze your account, or reject your transactions, or if they're bored and don't have anything better to do with their time.
  24. It sounds like nobody has bothered to tell NCSoft Support that Freedom has launched and that you can't buy PPs outside of the NCSoft/In-game store - I expect they think you're trying to buy game time which is why they're telling you to try other stores.

It might be worth PMing one of the community reps on the forums (though Beastyle or Avatea might be better choices than Zwill as he's got a several hundred PM backlog he's working through at the moment) and ask them if they're aware of any issues with purchasing through the store from your country and if you give them the support case number from the NCSoft site they might be able to chase it for you, given the timezone difference you're working with it would probably help.
  25. Not within the mechanics of the game/market - you could always just give her £10/$15 so she could buy it

As an added bonus it would get her two reward tokens that will unlock things like most of the non-global chat channels, tells, ability to join SGs, trading, etc.

Edit: Or for the same money you could buy her a month's VIP sub so she can see all the neat stuff and then decide if she wants to carry on afterwards.
