  1. Well, /bind b "powexec_name speed_boost" works just fine.

Putting a space in the power name would imply 2 arguments, but powexec_name only takes one.
  2. Why doesn't: /bind f "powexec_name fulcrum_shift" work?

Siphon Speed issues I get, yep that can indeed be a pain...

IR... nope, still not convinced. Leaping requires you to check around and press the jump key in order to do your jumping. You can't leave your toon to get where they need to get to on their own. It requires almost the same careful consideration of where you are going as IR.

    Brick. Space bar. Nuff said.
  4. This is why I never go to Warburg. HvV combat is fair enough, but my idea of fun differs somewhat from being ganked the second I step out of the safe zone.

    My Ice/Axe Build

Well for a start you haven't taken Chilling Embrace.

    Ice/EM

But herding is bad and the devs stopped that with all of their half-arsed changes to the game mechanics, didn't they?

    Why a Defender?

    You can make /Dark controllers

Dark is the only Defender primary you cannot have as a Controller secondary.

You're entirely right - not sure how I missed that one.

    Why a Defender?

    You can make /Dark controllers

I don't think any of the Defender primaries are unique - they're all also controller secondaries (Unless I've missed something obvious).

I've never liked controllers, they're just not any fun for me (Same with scrappers), but I'm absolutely loving my Kinetics/Elec Defender (Currently Lv31). I can solo on Rugged without any real problems (Some bosses can be a pain and mobs with a lot of mezzes) and in teams I can play a major part.

Hell, last night we were fighting Babbage (We destroyed him in a matter of minutes) and I had his end down to 50% within 60 seconds, he was slowed to a crawl and hardly doing any damage. If we hadn't killed him off so fast I'd have been able to drain all his end and keep it at zero with Short Circuit, rendering him unable to attack.

Once I get Fulcrum Shift in 310k xp time, I'll be able to turn the tide of entire battles, weakening all the enemies and putting the entire team at the damage cap, not to mention the +Recharge, +Speed, +RES and +Mez protection buffs that I can hand out.

FF can be a very dull set to play because of its lack of interactivity - a lot of builds can just be buffing team every 2 minutes and standing there with your toggles on - but by no means are Defenders dull.
  10. I know, but I want to know how much of my screen I'm going to end up filling with icons - last time I teamed with a Kineticist pre-AoE cap I had to close the team status display because it was obscuring my view of the game

    Phoenix Fanatix

You won't be killing very much with it I'm afraid
  12. Holding 100% of the aggro is no good if you're dead

And Tough is still ~24% RES vs S/L 3-slotted, which I really wouldn't call minute.
  13. With any luck I'll be able to spec out the fighting pool completely come I7.

The point of the pool powers is to help patch weaknesses or add bonuses to your build, problem is that tanks are in many cases required to take power pools in order to do their job properly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, I believe that's what I said. My point was that it's practically all tanks, not a particular problem with Fire primary.

Although I'll happily bow to your greater experience on Ice, I don't recall seeing many builds which omit Tough/Weave and Combat Jumping.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't have Weave, don't have Combat Jumping, didn't take Tough until I5 and even now it's only really useful against predominantly S/L foes.
  15. The point of the pool powers is to help patch weaknesses or add bonuses to your build, problem is that tanks are in many cases required to take power pools in order to do their job properly.
  16. I can still tank without running Tough - sure it makes heavy S/L mobs a bit harder, but it's not like it's "+RES All" or anything - in fact I can often tank better because not having to run Tough saves me a lot of endurance.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I did Synapse TF yesterday and there were no voids or quantums at all but instead there were lots of novas, dwarves and a shadow cyst crystal! It was pretty scary on such a low level but the team did really well, to be honest much better than many high levels teams I've seen.

I've only got 2 crystals during my 36 levels of peacebringing and they worry me a bit as I've seen them cause multiple teamwipes when team didn't know how to handle them or wouldn't listen. If it happened on a team because my PB was in it, I'd feel a bit responsible. On the other hand I find them kind of exciting and not really that bad if everyone just concentrates on taking the crystal out fast.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Wait till you get to the later Kheldian arcs - you'll get missions with 4 or 5 Shadow Cyst Crystals to defeat (and they're mission objectives so you can't skip them ).

I can solo them easily on a 4+ man team with my Warshade and with a little luck when I'm on my own.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Well, as a fire tank, the first thing I will say is that I'd like to see the Ice tank who can out tank me!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *waves*

Against anything other than Fire damage and up to +2/3 mobs, I'll see that challenge.

    [ QUOTE ]
And then we come to the reason I consider fire tanks to be the best tanks, rather than the weakest... Fiery Aura. Nothing holds aggro like it when slotted correctly and coupled with taunt, makes them so much more effective at aggro management than other builds.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I refer you to my earlier statement

Edited because I bollocksed up the quoting.
  19. But the fact that you need to take Acrobatics (+CJ+SJ) and Tough & Weave (+Punch/Kick) to be able to do that shows a huge flaw in the powerset.

The lack of knockback protection was supposed to be a balance for the offensive power of Burn. Burn has now been rendered all but useless unless you're Fire/Ice but the rest of the powerset has seen nothing but nerfs. Personally, I'd resent being forced to take 6 pool powers just to have a functional tanker.
  20. I probably should have qualified my "poor heal" statement with a "relatively". All of the other heals add an HP bonus which is a significant boon for a tanker - especially one depending entirely on RES for damage mitigation.

Whichever way you look it at, Firey Aura is currently the least survivable of any of the tanker primaries.

    [ QUOTE ]
Although that made me laugh. Better Res than Ice eh?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Despite the fact that DEF+RES > RES > DEF, DEF is still better than nothing - in fact in many cases DEF can be better than RES. Ice has pseudo-RES in the form of Chilling Embrace, not to mention that even assuming the flawed 2 RES = 1 DEF, Ice still outdoes Fire for damage mitigation by a long way.
  21. Are you serious? The Fire Primary is easily the worst of the tanker primaries at the moment - weak RES, no DEF, no knockback protection and a poor self-heal.
  22. I don't think it helps that there are a lot of bad tanks, whereas anyone can spam heals and look like they're being effective with a defneder.

I've been on teams where people have congratulated the defender for "Good healing" while in reality they were just standing there with Healing Aura on auto and occasionally using Heal Other. If a tank is [censored], it's a lot more obvious.

I dont know what it is, it just feels so heroic to make that one last stand... thats why on countless occasions i make it a priority to be the last one to leave the fight... even if im fudged from the very beginning...

    [/ QUOTE ]

OFT!!!! Best bit about being a tanker imho: 'RUN! I'll hold them off!!!' and everyone makes it away. Brilliant feeling knowing you're the only thing stopping a wipe...

    [/ QUOTE ]
Except that those poor sods never run when you tell them to :/

    [/ QUOTE ]

With my tanker hat on, it's my duty to go down with the ship, so to speak, so that the others can all escape unharmed.

However, with my defender hat on, it's my duty to try to keep everyone alive to the last and will often stay and do my best to keep the tank (or whoever) alive for as long as I can - even if they're telling me to run.
