Sounds like the result of Geo-IP usage and lazy ISPs (Or Geo-IP providers).

Same with the Fire and Ice swords as well, much to my annoyance.
They're not actually objects like the "weapons" are, just FX. -

Using my awesome powers of search-fu, I present you with Wilf's Guide to Non-Empathy -
Ack!
Macs are not "just" PCs. While the hardware is now pretty much the same since the switch to intel, the Mac motherboards use EFI instead of a BIOS for initialising the hardware. There are a few PC motherboards that are starting to add support for EFI (And Vista is EFI-aware) but it's still pretty rare (And why you can't just run OSX on a PC without some tweaking).
CoX Mac will not be running under any kind of emulation either - as I said in my earlier post, it will be using Cedega, which is based on WINE, which is a reimplementation of the Windows API, not emulation of it, which means it runs as fast (and often faster) than the native Windows version.
That all being said, make an offical Linux version damn you! -
Possibly some graphical element causing the issue - does it still happen if you leave Striga with that character or change their costume?

Az, you're evil
Anyway, I could be wrong (and I'm by no means an expert on this so someone correct me if I'm wrong) but reading the press release, it looks like some sort of software that lets mac users use the exisiting software to make it run on their machines, kind of like a PC emulator, sort of?
[/ QUOTE ]
Transgaming make Cedega, which is based on WINE [http://www.winehq.org/] and it's *NOT* an emulator (Wine Is Not an Emulator), but a re-implementation of Windows APIs such as DirectX for *nix and BSD based systems. Cedega focuses heavily on the gaming side of WINE while other groups such as Codeweavers focus more on the application side (Their CrossOver app lets you run things like Office 2007 on *nix).
More recently, Transgaming has started releasing standalone "ports" of games for Mac and Linux that use Cedega (Such as this announcement about CoX). But it would be nice if they released it for Linux as well - the "problem" with Cedega is that it uses a subscription-based model rather than a pay once one. -

Could you have made that answer any more cryptic?

I can if you'd like, that was the simplified version -
SSH tunnelling is very useful, *but* is a nightmare when UDP is involved (i.e. Your common or garden SSH software won't tunnel UDP because SSH isn't designed to handle it) which is why you can't login (The game itself uses primarily UDP). Essentially you need a 3rd party app to wrapper the UDP packets in TCP packets and unwrapper them at the other end such as http://sdtcon.sourceforge.net/ (Never used it, but it claims to do UDP tunnelling properly) or manually if you have an *nix box somewhere (Cygwin might work, probably not) http://zarb.org/~gc/html/udp-in-ssh-tunneling.html.
Your other option is a full-blown VPN to a "friendly" machine outside the uni firewall that will get you access. -
Not really that surprising, it's very hard to make a gaming/internet venue of that size profitable, especially given recent economic factors.

As Spad said, this is very unlikely to solve anything anyway, but if you do want to try it the text to type at the command prompt is [u]cmd[u], not [u]smd[u].
[/ QUOTE ]
*whispers to Standoff*
Why would you type cmd at the command prompt when you are already at the command prompt ?
I think you mean at Start-Run ?
[/ QUOTE ]
Which is all moot as you can just type "ipconfig /flushdns" at the run prompt as it doesn't produce any significant output that you'd want to read.
-
[ QUOTE ]
You can try flushing your DNS. If you don't know how:
start>run>type in smd, hit enter.
at command prompt type: ipconfig /flushdns
this command work on XP I do not know about Vista.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't suppose anyone knows where this "DNS Cache Flushing" mythos with regards to CoX originated from?
Short of NCSoft having suddenly relocating all their servers or some kind of coordinated DNS cache-poisoning attack, flushing your DNS cache will do absolutely bugger all as far as fixing any connection issues goes. -
-
To put it simply, a "Defended" attack is any attack that doesn't do you any damage at all, by what ever mechanism you choose.
A "Resisted" attack is any attack that does you *some* damage but your abilities mean that it does less damage than it ordinarily would. -

the risk v reward in the game is a joke, GMs as zone events are ignored because they are just not worth doing, the hamidon is now univerally ignored because HOs are just not worth it, more easily obtainable on the TFs just like the recipe choice.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well I already mentioned GMs, which we all know are a joke and I agree about Hamidon - they need to increase the rewards for defeating him - but otherwise the Risk vs Reward isn't bad at all.
Remember that most forumites are more knowledgeable about the game and as a result often more skilled than the "average" player and so any discussion of Risk vs Reward needs to take that into account. -
It doesn't detract from my game and I don't really care about it, but I suspect that the Devs will do something about it because it breaks their Risk vs Reward paradigm (Giant Monsters still excluded obviously - I'm sure at some point they'll get around to sorting out the rewards so that defeating a GM is worth slightly more than 2 bosses), just like they did for Croatoa.

Are you running Aero in Vista? If so have you tried turning it off to see if the problem persists?
Also, which driver version are you using?
Latest Vista 32-bit drivers are available here: http://nzone.download.nvidia.com/nod...ional_whql.exe -
Can you run it in any other resolutions if you run it Windowed instead of Full screen?

The EU servers seem to work perfectly well and I don't see a need to move.
[/ QUOTE ]
^ lol. I'd agree with this if it wasn't for the whole server lag and un-useable arena issues of late.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have not experienced lag for a long time, so I don't recognise your problem.
But if you've got lag now, surely playing on servers hosted in the USA would make it worse given the additional hops you'd need to connect to
[/ QUOTE ]
On average the US servers, at least the East Coast ones, are fewer hops than the EU ones if you're in the UK or Scandinavia because the transatlantic links are better than a lot of the routing through mainland Europe. -
Mostly just keep the cables and the subwoofer itself away from anything with a significant EMF or that might cause feedback (PCs, other speakers, microwaves, microphones, nuclear detonations, etc).
If it's going bang then it might just be feedback - if you have a microphone, especially if it's sitting on your desk, try turning it down (or off) and see if the problem goes away. -

For the curious, 49710 is derived from 2^32 (Largest 32-bit integer), or 4,294,967,296, divided by 86400 (60*60*24 - the number of seconds in a day).
So, if for whatever reason the game thinks that you've played a character more recently than the time you're looking at the login screen (Probably due to small client/server time differences), it wraps the time around to the highest number it can use (49710). -

The traditionalists are trying to negotiate peace with humans. They can be considered "blue side" rikti.
the reconstructonists want to continue the war, but at the same time are negotiating with Recluse, presuably out of a mutual desire to destroy Paragon's heroes. The can be considered "red side" rikti.
[/ QUOTE ]
Which makes no sense given:
"Traditionalists seek: Total rule of: Humans; Rikti; when: Home-Earth contacted"
Unless he was lying, of course. -
There are two factions among the Rikti; Restructurists and Traditionalists.
The former just want to get along (i.e. Since the Rikti portals were cut off they figured they might as well try and make a life for themselves on Earth without too much focus on the annihilation of all life.
The latter are the ones who spend all their time trying to re-open the portals to allow the Rikti homeworld to send more ships through and begin the invasion anew.
To quote from one of Angus McQueen's missions:
Rikti are: Divided. Two Factions: Restructurist; Traditionalist. Traditionalists are: Fanatic faction. They seek: Iron-clad rule. They seek: Total recreation of: Home-Earth Rikti society. They are: Bound in: Old Second class citizens: For Traditionalists. Restructurists seek: New ways. Restructurist reforms: Blocked by: Traditionalist agenda. Traditionalists seek: Total rule of: Humans; Rikti; when: Home-Earth contacted
So, it's quite plausible that Restructurists would be forming ties with humans, even Recluse. -
There are lots of ways to reduce the ratings problem, from anonymity through weighted scores to not using the mean rating, but ultimately all you can do is *try* and stop griefing/abuse because if people are determined enough they'll find ways around it.
As for inappropriate content, I presume it's designed to stop dialogue along the lines of "What the [censored] do you think you're [censored] doing, you [censored] [censored]", highly offensive content, or copyright infringing content, rather than penalising those who want to create missions for more mature audiences.
