I only even attempted to log into my master account today to purchase the new booster pack (for my wife's account as well), and this will get resolved, but..

..it would've been nice to know I even needed some of that information from my master account before implementing the new measures, in other words, quite a hamfisted process you followed NCSoft, somehow I think the brilliance that is CoX Marketing was in charge of this as it has that familiar aroma of fail.

Let's be honest, every single problem they've caused with this new system could have been avoided if they'd given even a day's notice before switching it on.
  2. The build is quite old (I've only just come back from a 2.5 year break) and it's also halfway through IO Setting, so some of the slotting might look a little weird (Especially in the armours) but it's partially intentional

  3. My only concern with Spiritual is that it'll further increase my End usage and I'm not sure that the faster recharge on EA will be enough to compensate.
  4. I really can't decide which path to take for my Ice/Fire Tanker; on the one hand he's quite end-heavy so I was thinking maybe Cardiac, but then he also has a reasonable damage output so Musculature is an option too and of course more recharge is always welcome for Hoarfrost and Energy Absorption. The only one I've ruled out so far is Nerve and I'm not even really sure about that one.

Any suggestions on the best course of action? I can provide my build if it helps.

    Ta.
  5. It does caused a bit of a problem for those of us who bought the game from Steam and want to launch the game from it, however.

As I said, however, there are ways...
  6. Not that you have to use the launcher to get it...

Since I've been back I've noticed that people are getting awfully antagonistic on these boards.

The point, I believe, is that if you want access to X thing then you have to do Y thing. That's pretty much standard across all games ever. If you don't want to do Y thing then, unlike most games, CoX gives you the option of doing Z thing as an alternative, it's just more long winded than Y thing because they'd like you play the content they've added rather than buy/farm your way around it.

That's not saying "shut up and run the raids", it's saying that if you don't like the conversion rates to get all the Incarnate stuff then you either need to run the raids or not have the Incarnate stuff and vice versa.

I don't really think it's unreasonable for the Devs to make you do things to get stuff.

Now it's not all bad, for Hamidon Raids, Rikti Mothership Raids, and the new content being added with this update this could be a really really good thing. However the fact that you can form a team of 48 players "for any purpose" is what makes it bad. I mean 48 players is a bit excessive for standard missions that currently exist in the game. I don't think most of our current mission maps are even large enough to support 48 players.

Keeping in mind that larger team sizes also mean larger mob sizes, a team of 48 players would fill a standard sized mission map so full of NPCs that players would be killed by mobs standing on eachother's heads the moment they loaded into the mission. Think, full team of 8 Masterminds but much much worse because of mob sizes also being increased.

Basically in order for this to work the game would need entirely new map sets for already existing missions, maps big enough to support the larger team sizes. Either that or Leagues would have to be limited for tasks that can already support such a large number of players and not be made available "for any purpose" as the quoted in the above announcement.

One of the Devs said during the EU Sneak Peek that you're still limited to the maximum number of players allowed on a given map or TF/SF - so most instances will presumably (or already do) have an 8-player (Or at least, lower than 48-player) cap to avoid exactly that problem. For example, the Lambda Sector trial is limited to 16 players (except when it wasn't and there were 21 of us, but it's still in development so we'll let them off )

Or, you know, just don't do the raids. Yes, you'll miss out on content and it'll take you longer to get the stuff that you want, but the same could be said for pretty much *any* aspect of the game - hell, a lot of MMOs wouldn't give you the alternative route to getting the Incarnate slots & powers.

To me, it doesn't make sense why there is this great sense of urgency to contact me out of nowhere. What gives him greater urgency than Statesman or Lord Recluse asking for my help? With these new mid-level TF/SFs, it ties in very well to the ultimate destiny of my characters and a foreshadow of greater things to come later. At least now, once my characters reach 50, the stakes will be higher and it gives me a greater purpose.
Because you told him it was urgent - it's the joy of time travel plots

  12. ...and I thought I'd buy Going Rogue and reactivate my account. Turns out that playing DCUO for a few weeks really makes you miss all the things about CoX that you used to enjoy.

I've seen a few familiar faces about, but 2.5 years away means I've missed an awful lot so, other than the Incarnate "intro" arc for the Lv50s and - obviously - Praetoria, what are the things new that I need see/do, the old things that have gone and the other things I've forgotten?

If anyone wants me I'll be respeccing every toon I have and trying to use up to 100+ free costume changes they've accumulated...

But if you spend an entire day on a game without any sort of communication with the "real" world, then that is (imo) starting to get into an addiction/too much.

The only problem there is that in the real world I'm not a gun-toting, super-power-wielding, F1 championship winning, implausibly resilient, god-like entity - sadly.

But sure, I suppose you can drop taunt on a tank and grab provoke, only thing is you will have to hit it every 10 seconds (on default)

Well, that & the accuracy check of course and the fact that it uses up one of your 4 pool choices.

Its really funny that when people say about other games being competition, like WoW, people say "oh no, different type of game, not competition", but when it suits, suddenly it is

    [/ QUOTE ]

Competition is so relative though - I wouldn't say Left 4 Dead is in direct competition with this game, but it's been consuming an awful lot of my time this past week.

    [/ QUOTE ]

All other games are "competition" in that they consume time that could otherwise be put towards playing CoX. I have approximately 45 hours a week when I'm not eating, sleeping or at work and that time has to be divided up amongst the leisure activities I want to do.

Well I'm OK, I cashed in on my Data Mining shares before the weekend, I pity those of you who still hold any.

    downloading

    [ QUOTE ]
well basically when i get to the updater thing it comes up with fixing files and just doesnt seem to do anything it does slowly download but 7 hours so far and hasnt completed the download and i do have good laptop real new and has had cov on before any ideas

    [/ QUOTE ]

If it says it's fixing files then it isn't actually downloading, it's repairing files that don't match its checksum. Sometimes the checksum can get corrupted and it causes it to keep trying to fix things that aren't broken.

If you look in the CoX folder there should be a .checksum file - delete that and reopen the updater; hopefully it should start working again.
  21. I've said it before and I'll say it again; the problem with PvP in CoX (at least prior to I13's changes) is that if you're new to PvP, haven't spent a large fortune on enhancements and/or have the wrong build, powersets or AT then it's just not fun.

Every time I've made the effort to venture into PvP zones to give it another shot, I end up getting 2-shotted (Or perma-mezzed) over and over again - primarily by blasters - managing maybe a 1:25 kill:death ratio before getting sick to death of it and leaving again.

I've tried Tankers, Brutes, Dominators, Scrappers, Defenders and Warshades (I don't have any Blasters, Corruptors or Stalkers of sufficient level) and they all end the same.

I don't have the time or inclination to spend tens or hundreds of hours and hundreds or thousands of millions of inf on making a "perfect" PvP build of the right powersets to be one of the "good" PvPers, but I would like to feel that I can occasionally pop into one of the PvP zones and have a reasonable chance of having a genuine battle with someone, rather than getting massacred the second I step into the zone.

This isn't a problem with PvPers - I get the whole "PvP makes people act like children" thing, it's human nature to be competitive and it's human nature to act like children when you know you can get away with it (i.e. Over the internet) and that's fine to a point - it's a problem with how PvP works at the moment and is a factor of the way that CoX was originally designed (thankfully) without PvP in mind.

Now I haven't tried the I13 PvP changes yet, but I intend to and really hope that they will mean I can play my Tank or Warshade or Brute in PvP zones and have a good time. I'd expect to and have no problem being beaten by more experienced PvPers and those with powersets that exploit my weaknesses (Fire vs Ice, etc), but not simply because they're a blaster and can keep my tank perma-mezzed for the 10 seconds it takes to chisel my health down, for example.
  22. The biggest problem is that *most* people who are complaining about I13, in exactly the same way as with all previous issues either haven't tried out the changes at all or have only tried them out very briefly.

This leads to the typical outcry that everything is irreparably broken and that it's the end of the game as we know it. Then, a couple of months later once the kinks have been worked out, feedback based changes have been implemented and people have had a real chance to get used to the "new" game, reviews are generally much more favourable.

    Hence the "Doooooom!"
  23. Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!

    That is all.
