Already up to Lv12 and I'm loving the combo; below is my planned build. I've tried to make it as good as I can without spending a fortune, gimping myself or taking a bunch of powers I'm never going to use.
So, the question is, is it any good?

Quote:I think the idea is to convert the Empyrean merits (when they don't randomly vanish from your inventory) to get the rare stuff rather than paying to craft it.And 100 million ? Wow yea I have it, but even for me it's a lot. I surely cannot do this on all my characters. I could do it on maybe 1 or 2 even 3, but that is it. It would take me some time or a bit of luck to get it for anymore of my toons slotted with these powers.
-
So, last night I ran a few successful trials and ended up with 5 or 6 empyrean merits. I woke up this morning, logged in and they're all gone. Asking around it doesn't look like I'm the only one.
Can anyone provide any insight here? Or do Empyrean merits just randomly expire every Sunday morning? -
To answer my own question, yes, it looks like it is apply correctly, there's just no buff icon for it.
-
Should Interface powers be carrying over into fluffies? The Alpha certainly does, but I'm not seeing the Interface buff icon and it's unclear from what I've gathered speaking to people whether or not it should be.
Does anyone know for certain? -

Not sure about the Launcher, but:
Rename the updater from cohupdater.exe to cohupdater.eu.exe and then launch it. When it asks where to install to, point it to the directory above the one where you've installed the US version (i.e. C:\program files\ rather than C:\program files\city of heroes\) and you should then be good to go.
As for telling which you've got - fire it up, try to log in and if you can't login you've probably got the wrong oneIf you get a list of 4 servers (Defiant/Union/Vigilance/Zukunft) then you're in the right place.

Quote:The SP3 thing is not a pretty amateur bug, it's a pretty understandable oversight. When I've writing apps and building websites I try and test against all current OS/browser versions and as many of the "older" but still in use ones as well - for example, I *still* have to test against IE6, however much I hate it and the amount of extra work it causes me - but I'm not going to waste my time testing against Opera 8, or MacOS 9, or Windows XP SP2 because they're completely unsupported by their developers and have been for quite some time. As it stands, the devs will be having to test against (at least): Windows 7 (x86), Windows 7 (x64), Windows 7 SP1 (x86), Windows 7 SP1 (x64), Windows Vista SP1 (x86), Windows Vista (x64), Windows Vista SP2 (x86), Windows Vista (x64) SP2, Windows XP SP3 and that's assuming that they don't test against Home/Pro/Ultimate as separate entities. Adding in old, unsupported platforms to their testing creates substantial extra cost (time & money) for what should be an almost insignificant proportion of the userbase. The recent Issue 20 update has been released with severe trial crashes, messed up character slots and a pretty amateur bug with XP SP3,
All this combined with being an EU player has resulted in very little game time for the working EU Player base
Frankly I've been amazed by the number of people still running XP SP2 and it certainly explains why so many botnets count their membership in the tens of millions these days.
Yes, unplanned downtime is bad, but the devs aren't actually obliged to do anything to compensate us for it (Read your user agreement). In fact, if I were them I'd almost be tempted not to do anything because I know full well that *anything* they try and do by way of compensation is going to make people complain about how it isn't how *they* wanted to be compensated. -
Quote:I find it's the other way around, purely because the Heroside unlock arc is so monumentally tediousMore likely (for me at least) on Villainside. Heroside, you unlock the Midnight Club early (teens,) and can ignore the info/badge/runaround arc in the 30s. Villainside it's the other way around - you get introduced and do the runaround, and more than once I've thought by 35 or so (given the number of alts) that I'd unlocked the club, when in fact all I'd done is the mid-teens talk-tos.

To get a T4 Alpha you need any 2 of the T3 Alphas from that tree (i.e. You have to craft 2xT1, 2xT2 & 2xT3 to make 1xT4).
It's not immediately obvious but if you expand the window or scroll down you'll see the options for all the possible combinations of the 4 T3s to craft your T4. -
Quote:You need to put quotes around the "C:\Program Files\City of heroes\cityofheroes.exe" bit of the string as otherwise Windows interprets the spaces as the end of the current command.Okay, so this is weird:
Having cut-and-pasted the command line as instructed and then clicked "OK", I get the following message:
"Windows cannot find 'C:\Program'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
What fun Windows 7 is!

Quote:My /Rad controller has hit 1100 before with Fallout; of course it does encourage me to let my teammates die...that and vengeance. As Psy said, Destiny does not resurrect. Barrier does. Barrier is incredible. Don't worry about obsoletion; it's just something to stress you out. Play the game and enjoy.
EDIT: Your Judgement isn't affected by buffs. I've seen a Blaster fire off Inferno for well over 1.3k damage with Build Up and AIM; no other AT can do that. -
If you use the Titan Sentinal util, you can export your current build into Mids' and/or post it here, that way people can look to sculpt the existing build rather than starting from scratch and maybe making totally different choices to what they would with some context available
.

Well 80 is just HTTP; it's what the launcher uses to check if there are any patches available and get the latest news/info to display. Then the actual downloads take place over 6994, but I seem to remember that they have a sequence of different ports that they try if one doesn't work.

Quote:The problem with the LFG system at the moment is that most people are getting into full leagues before joining the queue, so that people "on their own" so to speak aren't getting into the instances. This is my first post so please forgive me if it is not in the correct thread.
I have been in waiting mode for three days now and as of yet have not been invited to the new trials. I see it says three to five minutes in waiting period but I have stood around for 40 mins and still not gotten invited. What am I doing wrong?
Where is the contact to start a trial?
I can't speak for the US servers, but certainly in the EU the place to go for getting involved in the trials is Pocket D. There isn't a contact as such, the league leader just joins the LFG queue with enough people to start the trial.
And yes, the "ETA" timer on the LFG tab does appear to be something of a random number generator at the moment -
Have you tried the NC Soft Launcher?
Can you browse to http://206.127.147.17/ which is the updater address? -
I saw someone mention this during the Beta, it seems to be specific to people with Level Shifts vs Lv1s and could lead to some supremely embrassing moments in Atlas.
Would be interesting to see what effect the +2 & +3 level shifts have on this, but as they only work in the trials I can't think of any way to test them. -
Ah, an IP based whitelist and security questions; it's almost like they asked the work experience lad to devise a secure, 2-factor authentication system for their account management and if he could have it done by the end of the day that would be great. And I agree that not having any obvious way to remove IPs from the whitelist is a Bad Thing - even moreso if I access my account on my phone because that IP is far more dynamic (and widely assigned) than that of my home connection.
As the old saying goes: If you're not going to do it properly, just half-*** it and hope nobody notices -
Glad to hear it; yes the trials are a bit grindy and yes they're extremely hard on PUGs (mostly because people never listen) but I've had fun even on the ones I've failed so far.
My Ice tank is feeling ever so squishy though -
Oddly, my pure Human Form Warshade.
I say oddly because during my first play phase (i3-i12) I never really enjoyed my WS at all; she was a real nightmare to get to 50 and I basically just parked her afterwards. Since I've been back though, I dug her out, did a moderate respec, completed her IO setting and she's now an unstoppable (apart from disorients; Damn You, Disorients!!) killing machine, abley assisted by 2.5 fluffies of doom.
That said, I do still love playing my Ice/Fire tank, oldest and survivablist of my toons, but my WS is just a little more fun -
Quote:Limiting your browsing to "respectable sites" is sadly no longer good enough; so many of them end up compromised via SQL injection, 3rd party advertising providers, XSS or just shoddy security that even visiting "safe" sites can be dangerous these days.going on the internet (respectable sites only
) I see no loss of performance at all.
This is why I run Adblock & Noscript in conjunction with client AV and a decent edge firewall on any machine that even goes close to the internet and ensure that not only Windows, but also all the 3rd party crap like Flash, Java, etc are kept up-to-date and, where possible, a not installed at all (Like Adobe Reader).
Of course, the truly paranoid internet user will only browse using telnet from a OpenBSD box
