What's your netgraph (/netgraph 1) looking like during these disconnects?
-
Quote:The Updater issue affects x64 versions of windows and appears to be caused by the updater or some associated process locking the files that it needs to update, causing an Access Denied error. It could be worked around by moving the updater + cityofheroes executables to a temporary directory and running them from there; once the update was complete you could move them back and you'd be good to go.What was the updater issue and how was it solved? I don't want to have to mess about with techy stuff every time the game is patched
In the case of the Launcher, it doesn't look like it's as simple to fix and I haven't yet been able to replicate the problem in order to establish what's causing it. -
Quote:Anonymous do everything for the lulz, if it happens to coincide with an actual "cause" then it's a bonusAint the reason they did it in the firstplace because of the PS3 Jailbreak thing? If so I support the hackers. Sony think they are too high and mighty and need to be brought down a peg. If the hackers are doing it for the 'lulz' then it's a bit out of order

Quote:If it's the same issue as the updater one - and it appears identical - then it's not an admin rights issue.I agree with Leandro, it sounds like an admin rights issue.
Personally, I installed CoH to a non-default directory outside of the regular Program Files directory, so I never have to deal with this. There's no reason for it to be in the Program Files directory anyway, especially since things like savable costumes and Mission Architect files came into being. -
Quote:I don't think it's Anonymous, they do things like this for the lulz and therefore prefer defacing to stealing info (unless they're then going to post it on Pastebin), not to mention that they'd claim credit if they'd done it.Yeah from what I've been hearing, Sony had very poor protection on PSN and SOE servers. Maybe some of these hackers could get past even high end security, but at least then Sony could say there was really nothing they can do.
Anonymous has been denying involvement as well, so who knows.
And for those of you thinking that it's an elaborate double-bluff, you're wildly overestimating the intellect and attention span of the average Anonymous contributor -
It's an x64 issue that appears to affect Vista & 7, though I guess could affect XP too if more than 6 people ever installed XP x64. I thought it had gone with the switch to the Launcher, but apparently not.
With the updater I found I had to copy the affected files out of the game directory, run the updater from said temporary location and then move them back, but in that instance it was throwing access denieds on the updater executable itself rather than an ancillary file, so I'm not sure that would help here. What appeared to be happening was that when you launched the updater, it was locking the file, so it was unable to access it to update - I'm guessing something similar is happening here.
If anyone is au fait with Process Monitor then it would be useful to see if that sheds any light on it (I'm not able to easily replicate the issue myself otherwise I'd do it).
Another option is to use Process Explorer to see what has a lock on that .dll file when it throws the error (Do a Ctrl+F and search for the crashrpt.dll). -
Looks like the x64 issue that I've previously seen with the old Updater. The fix there was to move the offending files out of the game directory, run the updater again and then move them back (where appropriate) but I'm not sure if that would apply to the Launcher as well.
Also not sure why they're struggling so much with x64 platforms either. -
Is it Windows 7 x64 in either or both cases? If so then it looks like the Updater problem has translated to the Launcher, though I'm not sure how to fix it in the latter case.

Build Up+Aim+RoF+Fireball+Breath of Fire = Win (Unless you don't have anyone to hold the aggro in which case it usually = Debt)

I think poor writing is to blame for dim movies
-
None of them would be in my list for "Highly survivable on SOs alone", at least not in the context of all available Tanker primaries.
-
Thing is though, memorizing them takes quite a lot of crafts, which cost money, so memorizing is only worthwhile if you plan on doing a lot of marketeering or using them to supply all your alts.
-
Commons or Sets? Sets I can understand if there aren't any recipes on sale and people really want them NAO, but commons I don't get because you can always buy the recipes from a crafting station and have it almost always work out cheaper than buying crafted.
-
Depends where you put them.
The +End IO only gives a +10% recovery buff, but that's to your overall Recovery, not just the power it's in. -
XP is pretty terrible for these sort of things, it could be a dodgy hard disk, optical drive, install disk, full moon, you name it; there are a few things you can try.
Firstly, , make sure you've disconnected any other hard drives as the XP installer will install the bootloader onto what *it* decides is your primary drive, regardless of which one you pick to install it on.
Boot off the XP disk to the recovery console and try a "fixboot" followed by "fixmbr", which will repair the bootloader - this would likely have fixed your initial problem, but given what you've done since then it's now less likely.
You can try a full format of the drive, again the XP installer is extremely poor at dealing with problems with partitions and MFTs.
If you've got >2Gb of RAM, stick Win 7 on there instead. -
Quote:What I'm saying. The participation threshold (that qualifies you for any Incarnate Salvage as opposed to just 10 Threads) is entirely an individual thing.Just to clarify, because I'm losing track here:
Is Smash_Zone saying that once you get the opportunity of a roll on the reward table, nothing at all will increase your chance of a Very Rare? (that league success only helps you get that opportunity, but does nothing further once you get it)
And similarly, is The_Spad_EU saying that actually once you've got that opportunity your chance of getting a Very Rare (or otherwise good result) from the reward roll can be further depending on how well the league performed, beyond just getting the opportunity in the first place?
In essence, disagreeing on this point? Or have I misread/misunderstood somewhere along the way?
League performance can boost qualifying members' chance of getting higher tier rewards, which is why a lot of people still seem to get more Uncommons than Commons after the "fix" was rolled out; because their leagues are doing well and that's skewing their results upwards. If it reaches the point that it becomes too prevalent (remember that us forumites are not a good sample pool as we tend to be more knowledgeable about game mechanics and the like than non-forumites resulting in - I would imagine - more successful iTrial runs on average) then the devs may have to adjust the modifiers again. -
The problem with retrospective 3D in movies is that you're having to invent information that isn't there. It's not like with HD where most old movies were shot on 35mm film which has plenty of resolution to go back and rescan at 1080p (assuming you have the original still); sure it looks a bit "crackly", but that's film for you.
In order for movies to actually look good in 3D (Not that it's even proper 3D, just stereoscopic) it has to be shot in 3D, otherwise you're just guessing what it would have looked like if you'd done it properly. That said, all the 3D movies I've seen so far apart from Avatar appear to have had half their scenes designed simply to look good in 3D, which means they look really odd in 2D because all this stuff is flying around for no apparent reason.
In other words, 3D movies, on the whole, are a waste of time. 3D versions of movies that weren't shot in 3D, doubly so. -
Quote:The various levels are weighted by how well the league does overall, so if you complete all the "objectives" (That give you Astral Merits) then everyone who qualifies for a reward has a higher chance of getting a "better" one.I just want to know why Uncommon drops more than Common. Is that WAI or a bug? Cause that seems counter-intuitive.
Based on the Beta server feedback, they set the Uncommon weighting too high and as a result, when leagues did better than expected on i20 launch, it resulted in Uncommon coming up more often than Common.
It's now been fixed. -
Quote:Bug. They were supposed to have enabled temp travel powers for iTrials but what's actually happened is that they now sometimes work and sometimes don't. Also, all temp travel powers are now disabled in Ouroboros. What's up with the temp powers on I-trials now? I've been away for a month or so, and I ran a lambda today, part of the time my temp travel powers are available, and part of the time they aren't. Since ninja run is my only travel power, it's kind of a problem. Is this WAI or a bug?

Quote:Probably about a 1 in 8000 chanceWhat feature of Assassin's Strike makes it so that it will miss THREE TIMES IN A ROW when double Build Up'd and would kill a Paragon Protector before it could MoG?
Also note that there was nothing happening between attempts besides waiting for Build Up and Placate to recharge to try again. -

Quote:Opportunity implies a binary choice, chance implies probability.*props chin on hand* 'K, please explain to us the difference between an "opportunity" and a "chance."
If I meet the participation threshold, I have the opportunity to be awarded a Very Rare, but not much of a chance.
If my league performs well and I have the opportunity to be awarded something, then my chance of getting a Very Rare is increased. -
Quote:Because it's not. There's a core difference between F2P and what CoX does; in F2P you don't pay anything to access the game at a basic level and then all additional features cost you money. With CoX, you pay a basic subscription to access the game and all of its core features, the things you can pay for are all "cosmetic" (that is to say that not purchasing them does not affect your ability to play the game or your effectiveness within it).Edit: In case you guys haven't noticed, CoH has already taken on a lot of characteristics that are common to F2P games. Pay additional money for more character slots. Pay additional money for special costumes. Pay additional money to gain extra powers for your characters. About the only thing we're missing is paying money to gain access to certain classes/ATs and additional content. We are inching closer to F2P than most would care to admit and frankly, I'm a bit surprised more people haven't spoken up about this trend yet.
They might make your life easier (Ninja Run, Mission Teleporter) or prettier (Costume Booster Packs) or more flexible (Server Transfers/Extra Slots) but no game content is gated behind them.
Now, once you start either gating content or providing serious enhancements to players who purchase things (by way of powers/buffs) that aren't available to those who don't pay, then you have a problem. Seriously, the way that a lot of games are going these days with some of their DLC and "Pre-Order Bonuses", they might as well just bundle a God Mode instead.
Note that this does not cover expansion packs.
