Quote:My problem with that argument is that, in the vast majority of cases, the people who care enough will have already run off to Google and started researching and those who don't aren't going to be swayed into doing so simply by providing them with a handy linkOr you could point them at reference material and let them research it themselves rather than give vague, ominous warnings.

If you don't know what UAC is, what it does and how it operates then I wouldn't recommend turning it off.
I'm going to try and replicate this issue on my Laptop (Don't run the Launcher on my desktop) to see if I can figure out what might be causing it. -

The Windows Virtual Store folder is where Windows 7/Vista puts things that apps are trying to write to places that they don't have permission to, when you have UAC enabled.
The application doesn't know that they're in the virtual store instead of where they should be because Windows lies (for want of a better word) about it. Removing the virtual store contents is pointless if the application you're using is just going to put them back there again next time you run it (which is what it looks like here).
The "solution" is a properly written application that behaves correctly with UAC. The workaround is to disable UAC.
Either way, it shouldn't actually cause you any problems (contrary to the Launcher's claims) unless you're running in a multi-user environment and multiple users are running the same app (because the virtual store is per-user). -
Quote:Basically, you memorize them by crafting lots of them; the number required varies, but generally increases as you go up in level.
If you complete enough of the right selection of common invention recipes, you will memorize them, and related others. Memorizing a recipe unlocks a set of choices under the Memorized tab. Using a recipe under the memorized tab does not consume a recipe object, so you are not required to have a copy of the recipe in your inventory. -
Pretty sure it's not as simple as it should be - last time I tried the Launcher insisted on downloading everything again until I uninstalled it and went back to the updater, which worked fine.
Might want to backup HKCU\Software\Cryptic as that's where useful bits like the installation directory are kept and what the Launcher uses to "convert" updater installs. -
The participation metric doesn't affect *what* reward you get, only if you get a reward or not; if you're getting uncommons then you're hitting the participation threshold.
I've never had good drops, either in iTrials or in the game generally; 2 or 3 purples ever across all my toons and 3 or 4 incarnate rares (no v.rares), so I can appreciate how annoying it is when the PRNG seems to be going against you, but apart from contributing documentary evidence to the devs that clearly shows results well outside of the statistic norms and therefore implies some kind of bug in the reward rolls, there's not much you can do about it other than take the alternative route to Incarnate abilities and spend a fortune to get them. -
They can take my full name, address, date of birth, email address and credit card details, but I'll be buggered if I'm letting them write data to an arbitrary location on my computer!

Quote:I didn't realise that was the case, however, given the number of support threads I've seen caused by the Launcher not having sufficient rights to do what it needs to, I have my doubts about its effectivenessThe launcher offers to take full ownership of any pertinent game directories, so that you do indeed fully own the files. If you were to install City of Heroes within C:\Program Files, then you would not own the City of Heroes directory. After taking ownership, no admin rights are required. The NCSoft Launcher asks for this privilege once, and fully explains what it is doing. After that, it never asks for admin rights again.
In contrast, the old launcher was written before UAC and limited user access existed.
Calling NCSoft shady is hearsay. If they are so shady, why do you give them your personal details and bank information? -
Unfortunately, Microsoft's documentation also states that applications should be installed to the Program Files [(x86)] directory and that global (i.e. Not user-specific) settings should be placed either in the application directory or in HKLM (The All Users profile has been deprecated since Vista). These locations all require administrative rights (either directly or via elevation) to write to.
I would be genuinely interested to hear your suggestions for how else a mass-market application specifically designed to interact with frequently updated games, such as the NCSoft Launcher, could be designed so that it does *not* need administrative rights.
For those keeping track, I don't like the NCSoft Launcher, for several reasons, none of which are this -
Quote:He said to the surviving gangers that "the energy of the Tardis had stabilized them" and that they were proper humans now, which implies that the same would be true of his bootsOne small glitch.
The things that were switched?
They should have melted when The Doctor melted the thing in the Tardis. They were The Flesh too. So he's wandering around barefoot right? -

Well obviously
But what I meant was, in light of all that it's become apparent that he's been aware of with regard to Amy, did he already know about his death prior to this episode? Like I said, surely it would take impressive plot blindness for him not to have figured out that he sent himself that invite and there can't be many reason for him to have done it...
And I'm pleased that they had the good manners to show the FleshDoc dissolving at the end so as to avoid the otherwise inevitable "but which Doctor actually survived"ness that would have ensued (not that there's anything to stop him coming back when they want him to) -
Saw the Doctor switch coming, well most of the switches really, it's pretty much a mandatory component of that "evil duplicates" trope.
Did not see the last one coming, but in retrospect a lot of things now make sense *except* how the Doctor knew all about it (and I don't just mean the pregnancy, I mean the Flesh & the eyepatch woman and soforth). It also raises the question of whether or not he knew about his death prior to Amy blabbing about it (I mean, based on past experience surely he'd have figured out that the TARDIS blue envelopes sent to him, Amy, Rory, River and Canton would have been sent by him...?) -

Can you download http://launcher.patcher.ncsoft.com/N...entVersion.xml via a browser?
Are you using any internet security software that does host blacklisting? Are you using one of those idiotic Hosts file-based ad/malware blocking "tools"? Because it looks like something is redirecting ncsoft.com (or one of its sub-domains) to localhost (i.e. your own machine). -
Quote:I believe it is that the "solo friendly" path to unlocking Alphas only requires you to run iTrials with a single toon who can then purchase unlock vouchers for your other ones - without knowing the costs associated with the vouchers, it's hard to make a judgement on whether this is very handy or rather pointless.Am I reading this wrong (and I hope I am) or is the solo friendly path to Incarnate progress dependent on completing iTrials? Someone please tell me I'm wrong, 'cause I want to be. Team-dependent solo-progress is just too...something...to even bear thinking about.

Or, you know, refrain from using your incarnate powers...
-
Outside of any bugs, the only thing that will buff Incarnate powers are other incarnate powers (Primarily the Alpha slot).

Quote:Because most maps are designed with the maximum spawn size of 8 players in mind and even then some of the smaller indoor ones struggle to keep the spawns apart on full teams. Allowing more than x8 would seriously break a lot of them. Why don't you just increase the difficulty barriers? x5 I imagine wouldn't be feasible, so how about the amount of NPC's you can take on? I wouldn't mind that; would make me feel pretty good going up to the Fateweaver to be able to choose "I think I am as good as or better than 10/12/15 players." and pull it off.

That's exactly what random is; a true PRNG has the same chance of churning out the same result 50 times in a row as 50 different results in a row.
