Not to mention it's somewhat distracting.
Well it still beats the clbuttic censorship systems that bought us such gems as world-class athlete Tyson Homosexual and the ever popular game Buttbuttin's Creed: Brotherhood.

To be fair the old Updater still has the "Upgrade to the Launcher" page, though it doesn't have a "This won't work any more" message and that would probably be handy.

    Steam

Not sitting at the computer brainstorming possible reasons why it wont work. I haven't download the ncsoft launcher because i don't want to affect steam.Hopefully they will fix this and hopefully it will work.
Installing the Launcher shouldn't impact Steam (At least it hasn't on my PC) but it does mean that you'll have to add it as a non-Steam game if you want the Steam overlay, etc. to keep working.

    Steam

When I did a clean install on my laptop, having never had CoHLive on there before (But having the Launcher installed for CoHTest), Steam set itself up to use the Launcher for CoHLive, but no matter what I do with reinstalls I can't get it to do so on my Desktop.

I don't believe so, they could well be asexual, hermaphroditic or have some other gender dynamic that doesn't fit into "male" and "female". On top of that, the Dwarf & Nova forms are based on two *additional* species who will have their own genders and even then we'd have to presuppose that the different genders were physically distinct.

It should detect your existing install automatically, but otherwise try starting it with the /LaunchGame=Cityofheroes switch and when it asks where to install point it at your current install directory. It's how I did my Test server install.

    Steam

OK, seriously, how do I get my Steam install to use the NCSoft Launcher? Because at this point I've deleted the game out of Steam, emptied the directory and deleted the registry keys and, after a 2.5Gb download & reinstall, am *still* stuck with it using the now-useless Updater.

    It's not funny any more.

I did it once and never again; you forget just how bad the later films were.
  9. I love this bug, it's saved my blaster numerous times by allowing me to "run away" while held

I don't *have* to, but I want to continue to. It shouldn't really surprise me, but it would have been nice if they had bothered to either update the Steam client to use the launcher without having to screw around with it or, at the very least, provide clear instructions on how to modify the config of your existing Steam install to have it start using the Launcher.

Now I can probably work that out by myself given sufficient time and will, but I really shouldn't have to.

Right now there are going to be a lot of people who bought the game on Steam, don't read the boards and who won't have a clue why their game suddenly stopped working today.

Yes, there's nothing more I enjoy than downloading circa 4Gb, followed by all the patches that have been released in the last month or so, in the hope that it may or may not fix something that I shouldn't have to fix in the first place.

It was bad enough that the update to the Steam version of CoX when they were doing the sale last month forced me to re-download the whole client and repatch for precisely zero benefit, so I'll be damned if I'm doing it again.

Except it doesn't. At least mine doesn't and never has; though weirdly it does on my laptop for no apparent reason.

As usual it's totally ambiguous and I haven't been able to get any clarification about it; quoth the article (emphasis mine):

After this date players will only be able to launch the game through the NCsoft Launcher, or through the Steam platform.

Primarily because the latter predates the former by a fair number of issues and I doubt it would be simple to alter the game so that character names are only unique to a given global rather than unique to a given server, even if the devs wanted to, which I would imagine they don't given the issues it would inevitably lead to.

Given that Apple's intention seems to be to turn all OSX installs into iOS with bigger icons, the two may become one and the same sooner than you think.

Well nuts to that then, I still refuse to use the Launcher for the Live game until they fix the Steam version to work with it cleanly. Guess I'm stuck with 0.9.3 for now.

  20. http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/fre...s_details.html has most of the info. I'd forgotten about the "purchasing" of reward points.

So instead of waiting through months of free costume tokens and respecs, you should be able to ignore those and spend your resources on whatever you do want (subject to the limitations of the "Tier" system which I admit I have only glanced over).
Basically, you can pick rewards within a tier in any order you like, but you have to complete a tier in order to be able to pick a reward from the next one up.

  23. You won't ever be able to "catch up" with someone who's been subscribed longer than you, but if you're a VIP (i.e. still subscribing) then none of the Paragon Rewards are "neccessary" for playing the game properly AFAIK.

But yes, there may be some cool stuff you'll have to wait to get.
