Ditto, been through 3 or 4 different nvidia cards with City of Heroes and never really had any problems.
But then I haven't had any problems with my ATI card on my laptop either, so YMMV. -
Quote:I've found it's really random. On some toons it's fine and on others all the City zones are "covered" whilst all the hazard zones are uncovered.Symptom: Post-Issue 21's release, players who have had city zone maps "explored" and fully viewable on the Map function are now finding the whole zone dark again. Any explorations of the map are removed once the user zones to a new area.
Issue: This is the third time where the map function's "Fog of War" (where a city zone's map is grayed out, indicating non-exploration) has broken. Previous instances have indicated that there is a global "ceiling limit" in how much fog of war data can be stored. Each time this has broken, that limit has been raised to accommodate the new areas.
Has anyone seen this behavior on characters that have had most, if not all, of the city zones fully explored and opened up? Chime in here to add your experiences, please. -
Quote:Level pacts don't work at the moment. It's one of the "known issues" with i21 due to all the changes in account structure and they said they were hoping to come up with a way to re-implement them in the near future.I started two characters on Protector yesterday. I made a leveling pact between the two logged one off started playing the other. All throughout the session, I got my normal "half" notices. But when I logged them in today, It says, your leveling pact has been broken. One character is level 16, and the other is level 2. I've filed a petition.
Edit: And no, I don't know why they haven't removed the option. -
Quote:I wouldn't count on it staying that way, once the Name land-rush is over I suspect a lot of players will migrate back to their "home" servers. While I don't doubt that Exalted will remain a popular server, having 5+ Atlas instances isn't likely to be a common occurrence in a few weeks timeI just wanted to say I started back on Freedom with i21 release.....
But last night for the heck of it I started a new Time character on the VIP server.
I was shocked at the population. It's great! I had no idea it would be that happening. I didn't think many would go there because my understanding was that 'free' accounts couldn't go there... correct?
I guess I missed all the dev related content there but now that I've just started a new toon there, I was really glad to see all the players the server had attracted. This game is just SO much more fun with teams to me..... Great to see all you folks out there. -
I'm assuming that's because you get a ToHit buff at lower levels anyway.
-
I can't say I've noticed it, but I'll have to look more closely now.

Quote:Never been a fan of OpenDNS myself - if your ISP's DNS servers suck that badly then try Google's (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) - but if other machines behind the router are working OK then it doesn't sound like a DNS issue anyway. Can you load the tinypic.com site itself? I used to have issues with some of the many imageshack CDN servers back when people still used it, but the main site was always OK. If not then what error code are you getting? 404? 500? 64? etc.Doing an ipconfig /all gives, in order, my router, then the two OpenDNS servers. Checking on the system (also Win7 x64) that has no problems with it shows... the exact same thing. (They're set to automatically grab the DNS server addresses.)
Manually set the network adapter so it's using just the OpenDNS servers - no change.
Setting it to use my ISP's (Comcast) DNS servers - no change.
Note that it can *find* tinypic.com just fine, on a ping. And that the other system, using the defaults (router/opendns1/opendns2) and the same OS, same updates, has no issue.
Which would be great if I were the one trying to use itunfortunately it's *other* people using it that's the problem.
It's got to be specific drivers, then, since the other system's also Win7 x64 and gets there just fine. -
The server status display is one of the known issues they have to work out. It's not displaying server load accurately.

Quote:The servers are up, their access lists are not; thus we mere players cannot login to them yet.Brain melting...melting...meeeelllllttttiiiiinnnnngggggg gg.....
Ok anyway, I keep seeing posts that lead me to beleive the servers are up, but others that make them appear to be down, and the server status page just says unknown. Are we up or down?
*turns into a little fly with a human head* Help me!!!!! -
If I build a fence to stop you getting into my garden and then tell you that there's a secret door in it and what it looks like, it makes it rather easy for you to find said door and defeat the entire point of the fence.

Quote:That's why you have to tell them you're doing it before you actually do, it brings out all of the supposedly linked issues without anything having actually been changed. Then, once all that's died down you silently introduce it and any issues that are raised at that point are likely to *actually* be caused by the change as opposed to peoples' imagination.Yes, but you're assuming that the logic of telling people that it's been there for months will actually stop the claims of it ruining their PC. The response in most of those cases is usually "well, it just took this long to cause the problem!"
It's the same psychological behaviour that allows you to do tell people "I've just made some changes on the back end which should improve things, see how it is now" when they tell your their PC is running slowly, without actually doing anything, and 90% of the time they come back to you with "Oh yes, it's much faster now, thank you".
The human mind is wonderful and annoying thing. -
Quote:New Atlas, New Mercy, New First Ward, New Underground Trial, New Powers, New Costume Pieces - that's a lot of shiny new textures and animation FX to download.I find it hard to believe they created 2.5 gigs worth of new content. Why is it that 10 years ago we all knew how to write binary patchers that were able to apply a delta on known content with only the new content? Yeah yeah I know everybody on this planet now has fiber to the home 100 gigabit internet connections. Screw us poor sods that have slow capped internet.
Grumble... need to move to a place that I can get faster internet.... I hear south korea has some nice speeds. -
As with all anti-exploit measures, providing too much detail with regard to specific triggers would only make it easy to work around.
My personal suspicion is that they haven't actually implemented anything at all. They'll leave it a few months pretending they have and let all the DOOOOOOM! die down before silently turning it on. Then they'll wait another few months and *tell* everyone they've turned it on and getting the DOOOOOM! all over again before pointing out that it was running for months without anyone noticing.
It's pretty much what we do at work whenever we roll out new software, because we know that everyone will immediately claim that doing so has ruined their PC. -
Quote:Resetting the TCP/IP stack and deleting your network card seems a little overkill for trying to flush the DNS cache (which is all you're likely to achieve anyway). One thing to consider if it *is* a DNS issue is if your PC is using your router or modem for its DNS servers, rather than your ISP or a 3rd Party. If so, then it's possible that the cache there has issues and a reset would be helpful.Yeah, you're right, I messed that one up, was tired. I know it was something on my PC that needed to be done. I know I also updated my network card driver. So try this: Delete the network card driver in the Device Manager and get Windows to reinstall it. Windows should do this automatically when you reboot.
However, it's rare that DNS issues persist beyond a few hours unless someone has really screwed up the TTL somewhere. -
Quote:Nothing, just launch the game and it should prompt to check the consistency due to a recent update. Done.I copied over the piggs, but what do I need to delete to get the updater to check what it has again?
If it's really being stroppy, just force a repair from the launcher to achieve much the same thing. -
Quote:I copied my Test install over (it was updated to "Beta" level late last week) and I didn't have to patch any further. Can't say for sure if you copy the Beta install over.Oliin is correct. This is what I did with the GR beta and it worked flawlessly. Got into game in about three minutes, with most of that being taken up by the file check after pasting.
Since there will be some updates that never made it to beta this time around, there will probably be some kind of patching necessary but it won't be the whole 2.5 GB download that it would be otherwise. -
I would guess the former, there are doubtless several thousand people hamming the update servers for a 2.5Gb patch, if you've got an up to date Beta or Test install then I'd suggest copying that across on top of your live install (sans "user" folders) to save yourself a lot of time.
-
Quote:I just copied my Test install across sans the "user" folders and the logs folder; Launcher seems quite happy with it.65% done already. I'd rather do a fresh DL than copy the Beta, just in case
Now then...
Freeeeedoooom!
Warning, naughty gesture =P -
Just copy and up-to-date beta/test install across if you've got one, save yourself 2.5Gb of downloading.

Man, people are going to be pissed when they find out that the AE doesn't exist on the VIP server, they'll have to level to 50 by doing *gasp* content.
-
I know there used to be a bug whereby characters who'd just logged off would be shown as having last logged on ~4,000 days ago so it could well just be a manifestation of that. Not sure why that number would be the one though, it's not any obvious wraparound or type limit.

Quote:As with anything there's a fine line to be walked between defending our right to privacy and what is required to make use of any given service. If you want to remain totally anonymous and keep all of your personal information totally private then it's arguably doable but you have to make a lot of trade-offs to do it.Yeah, because anyone who worries about erosion of their privacy is a conspiracy theorist. Clearly if you care at all, you're some sort of nut.
It disgusts me that people act like this.
More importantly, it's essential to focus on those things are really are an egregious erosion of personal privacy (warrant-less wiretapping, the removal of the right to anonymity online -which they've recently done in South Korea - and soforth) and not to get caught up in things that are relatively minor and completely optional lest you weaken your position.
Yes, it would be nice if NCSoft (and others) didn't feel the need to put such broad statements into their EULAs in an attempt to prevent cheating, protect themselves from legal action and, quite probably, obtain demographic information to sell to advertisers, but they do. While I agree that it's something that probably should be raised with NCSoft in an attempt to get the terms clarified and/or narrowed, it's not something that should be framed in the same terms as civil rights abuses, government spying on their citizens or bodies such as the RIAA trawling for the personal details of thousands of people on the off chance that a couple of them downloaded music off the internet without paying them for it. -
