*looks in* So it's been two months and.... No? Nothing fixed yet?
Maybe I'll check back in a couple more months if I'm still here. -
Quote:Post them for Tunnel Rat. Gee. Why didn't someone think of that?Fix what? Did anyone post complaining that the ice shields gave them headaches or made them dizzy in the years since they were released? It was mentioned above: If the effect causes your physical discomfort PM Tunnel Rat or post it to her thread. If you just don't like it... Meh.
To be blunt, if the shield effect bother someone so much, even when they just see someone with the shields on, perhaps a nice game of hi-res pong is more appropriate.
Oh right. It's already been done. Nearly two months ago at this point, when some of these problems were brought up. The end result was that it will be fixed "eventually" so that people can change the graphics that cause problems on their end, but that it's a long way down the road.
Beyond that, this problem could have been avoided by simply leaving the game's buff mechanic as it was until this could be avoided. Wouldn't have hurt a single person any more that way than it already did. People would have been buffed occasionally, but they at least had a fighting chance before.
I'm saying this as someone who isn't affected by this problem and plays multiple buffing toons. This was a bad decision to not temporarily shelve the AoE buff changes, and it really reflects poorly on the people who let it go through. -
Quote:After it goes to live is to late to fix the problem for those players though. It's something that should have been held off until AFTER they fixed it. As for it being a small AoE, that's fine... if you're outdoors. If you're on an indoor map? Not so much. And how do you avoid it if you're not even aware it's coming? Now you don't have to just worry about being the one who gets targeted, you also have to worry about being within 30 feet of someone who gets targeted. That's insane. The range of the AoE is pretty small. You can easily avoid it once you establish how big it actually is.
They've also been actively looking for effects that are causing physical problems, so if you've got some specific ones in mind, PM Tunnel Rat. She is the one making most of them now.
All the details were given beforehand by others. It's most mind-boggling because it's like they learned nothing from the issues that came from Sonics on some players. Look at how long that took to fix, and that was before we had power customization giving people the ability to create color combinations that could wreak havoc on people's eyes. I mean.... seriously? Do we really have to have people go through that sort of thing all over again just to make it easier for people to click one person to buff an entire group? -
Quote:I would agree except there's more to it than that for some people. No, the problem isn't purely "I dont' want to be covered in ice" or some matter of cosmetic vanity. There are documented medical issues that some players have with some buffs that they now can't avoid. This was part of the problem brought up after the initial announcement. The problem existed every time someone buffed you. It's just easier for people to do that to you now. The only way this change is a problem is if you are teamed and you tell a buffer to not use shields. It's too hard for them to skip you reasonably now.
But for the small percentage (relatively) of people who hate shields compared to the multitude of others who want them, and the group of people who will now play shield-based buffers because it is not as tedious? This absolutely should have been implemented now.
It has been known a long time that there are pretty challenging technical issues to overcome with regard to canceling a buff granted on you. Should they never implement any QoL like this unless they can handle every corner case?
Unless they cause havoc for your PC, I never understood the rage of people who get their costume covered up buy a shield effect. If you want to admire the costume, spend 10 minutes alone and unteamed before you log out and spin that camera around all you like :P
So now, instead of simply asking to not be buffed, they have to not be anywhere near anyone who might be buffed to avoid whatever health issues the buffs bring out for them. In other words, logging on now becomes a health hazard.
This is not an improvement for those players, and it is something that the dev team can't claim didn't know could be an issue. It was brought up well before it went Live.
They announced the change without considering all the implications. Then they chose to push it live anyway once it was pointed out. I find it to be rather unfathomable that it's considered acceptable for them to introduce a "feature" that actively hurts a portion of the player base after those players had been able to avoid it for for the most part for seven years. -
Quote:Shield buff issues were pointed out in Beta. They chose to not take them into account when pushing through this "feature" that now causes problems that didn't exist previously. Can you please put a null gull in atlas, as well as one redside.
Already seeing the mass grieving of buffs. Or non grieving as the people buffing each other want it but the other 254 are stand by victims.
edit: after returning back in game
Why didnt you let null gull allow you to turn off the shield buffs? Atlas is ice shield city now. I don't want to be covered in Ice.
This is actually a game breaker for me. If I want an Ice toon I would make one. Why would you not give an opt out? This is insane.
This was very poorly implemented. Color me more than a bit disappointed in the devs after this half-issue update.
Seriously, the ball was dropped in a big way here IMO. -
Personally, I'm just waiting for the invasion of Time/Sonic defenders soon to be named "Generic 123 456 789" that we'll see within a day of this going live. >.>

I'd like more information as well please.

Best wishes, EMPulse, and congratulations on the impending arrival of the little one.

Quote:Needless to say, your post got my attention immediately. I'll have to see if there's anything amiss in my bases, or if anything else is somehow broken. It is "broken" though not by his wrongdoing. It just amused me to title the thread that way.
As always, thanks for the heads up on a potential base issue, Ara. -
Quote:Wow... thank you very much for picking the House of Heroes for our bar as the winner, plus the Honorable Mentions given to Ellis Industries and DH's Apartment.-Challenge: Capped-100 (Rooms with less than 100 Objects in them). Winners: The Victory Corps. Honorable Mention: Ellis Industries CLOSED
-Challenge: Bar/Tavern. Winners: House of Heroes. Honorable Mention 1: Vampires Coven. Honorable Mention 2: DH's Apartment. CLOSED
I'd also like to congratulate the Victory Corps and Vampires Coven for their bases as well. Very nicely done! -
Love the new issue, Antoinette. You really have a good eye for what we can make in the costume creator, and this issue was every bit as slick as the last one! Keep up the good work!
And I'm not just saying that because my base was in it -
Quote:That's completely within your right to play the game the way that you want to. You'll find that just about nobody here will ever argue that you should change what you're doing to fit the groups you join. There are always SGs out there recruiting. I'm pretty certain that if you looked around for a better option, you'd find one that more closely matches what you want.I have two accounts. The NA is all solo SGs very fast loading. My Eu account is all other SGs. On my NA accounts I have rooms full of recipes/enhancements and salvage. I'm probably going to cancel out of all the SGs later this year on my EU account though. I play this game to make progress I'm not really an RPG player or a socialist. I have to get things done when I'm online.
I just found it amusing that you came here complaining about other people's bases, and you wouldn't see how hypocritical it is that you're complaining that others won't redo their bases (and change their playstyle and/or goals) to meet your playstyle and/or goals.
It's really not worth getting this angry about. Find another SG and the problem is solved -
Quote:Are you crazy? If your an SG leader, your base load time directly affects the satisfaction of your "team." Who wants to slow their own teams down? Cutscenes is a perfect analogy. Devs love it and think their cute, but players hate them after the first time.
I'm not angry, more like surprised.Quote:Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to stifle creativity but I'm just saying for the very large SGs, you have to temper your "creativity" for the benefit of the members, right? It's plain inconsiderate to me.
You lack leadership skills truly if your just so focused on yourself.
You'd hate the base for my teen SG on Virtue, which was designed to have no less than half of the plot taken up by sewers or abandoned subway lines with each expansion. The entrance to the actual functional area is hidden among the tunnels and sewer lines. There are tunnels that lead to dead ends. Hidden rooms and abandoned areas. It's not a base that you just jump into and know where everything is.
I'm sure that you think I'm a terrible SG leader and base builder for creating such a thing, I know. What could I possibly be thinking by making things so difficult for my SGmates? Why did I do such a thing? What makes me torture them this way?
Lemme clue you in on something. I built the base that they wanted, asking for their input because they can obviously earn a lot more Prestige than I do all by myself. I gave options and they wanted the ultra-complex hidden secret in the sewers. I wouldn't tear it all out because one person joined up and complained after the base was set up that way, at the request of the people who have earned the millions of Prestige spent to build what they asked for.
With all due respect, if you join an existing group, you need to understand that your lone concerns are not going to be the only priority. I'd recommend you look around for groups that actually do have what you're asking for, instead of complaining that everyone should redo their base to cater to what you think should be done.
Your belief that your view of bases is the only acceptable one is the problem here, not that other base builders are "bad leaders." Demanding an existing group redo their designs to suit you is what's truly "plain inconsiderate."
I sincerely wish you luck finding a group that has what you want. That would be your best course of action at this point. -
Try the Cubicles, found in the "Other Furniture" tab, I believe. Works perfectly for that.

Quote:Sorry but I burned up enough energy fighting about AE stuff the last dozen times all my stuff was invalidated by changes. I'll let the rest of you play the bug report game.File a bug report anyway. Complain there and they'll have to pay attention.
Maybe I'll check it out in a few months and see if they ever fix it. -
It didn't. I tried to save an AE critter called a "Delta Class Guardian" and it flagged the name as invalid. Moreover, it wouldn't let me use a different name for it after that.
Stuff like this is what made me stop making AE arcs months ago. Now I come back this morning with an idea and find that we're back to this stupidity.
Seriously, if this is the path we're on, delete the whole system already and consider it a failed experiment.
Edited for a typo -
Wow.... finally got to see this (Thanks to Ara for linking it for me) and it was all very cool. Great stuff indeed! Looks just like a style magazine and was full of great tips.
I'm still quite flattered that you liked my main's home enough to feature it that way, especially with a two-page spread -
Quote:I liked the revamping of Praetoria that we got for Going Rogue. It was no longer written as simply being the evil goatee universe, showing that there was lots of grey area in the morality and decision making process. For those of us who wanted solid storytelling, this was great stuff. The Praetorian bashing gets so lame. Not directing this at anyone in particular, but seriously. Get over it.
Going Rogue introduced Praetoria and brought with it a buttload of new stories, not to mention gave some of the CoH's lore an ACTUAL physical place we could go. It also ties into everything quite well. Why all the hate? So you blew through it all in a week, who's fault is that?
Personally, I <3 Praetoria and everything it's brought with to the game.
Everything since then has been a step backwards, showing that Praetoria is indeed simply the evil goatee universe.
Rather disappointing. And this is why I hate that everything now has to tie into Praetoria somehow. -
Quote:Count me in this camp.I'd be cool with virtually ANY base-building love at this point - even incremental improvements would be better than the most recent (non-existent) ones.
However, I'm sure I speak for a great many who would NOT support any changes that would require scrapping what (for me) has been years of devoted tweaking to one or more large bases. If that happens... *shrugs* the system will be dead to me. I don't have the time, energy or will anymore to start over, rebuilding bases that (in some cases) have over 1000 objects in a single room. Further, even in cases where that number might be reduced (for example, by the addition of floating "floor" sections), I simply don't want to re-create entire layouts again from memory.
I've got seven bases, some that have taken the last four years to get the way I have them now, and I miss the four I've had to walk away from. If we're starting over completely, I don't have the time now to spend recreating any of that work in any remotely reasonable manner.
It would pretty well end my base-building interest, and since that's been a large part of my time investment in this game, to create the locales that dont' otherwise exist for the RP of myself and my SG(s), losing all of that work just might be enough to make me lose interest in CoH entirely. My bases as they exist now are a large part of my characters' lives, and losing them would be like losing part of the characters. -
Quote:The quote above is from the post I quoted previously. You can't argue that it's a more of a problem for the small or solo SGs, then comment about the wait time to earn Prestige, and then follow it up by saying that it's not about those things. Its an incongruity within the system, and it is off-putting for small or solo sg's. To go from having an upgrade of some sort every few days or once a week for months, to having to wait for a month or two months or longer for the next one does not make sense *within the context of the system itself*.
Quote:Again, I'm not going to lay out my resume about which groups I run, how many players are in them, or how many bases I have. Its simply not germane to anything except your straw-man.
It's just funny seeing people who campaign for these changes find it invalid when someone who is in the position they're supposedly saying it benefits point out that it's not needed. Small SGs by definition have fewer resources to draw from, and that makes sense, and you've admitted that much, which I applaud.
You want me to say there's a gap? Yep. There is. There's always a gap of some kind between any levels of acquisition of equipment for this game. You're going from the barest essentials to a level of basic functionality that's expected for groups by crossing that gap. It's more noticeable for the small groups, as you pointed out in the post I quoted.
Is it a problem? Not remotely as broken a situation as many in these forums still like to claim, for a group of any size.
That's my view on the matter, and I've already provided information in this thread on what my small group does that makes us view it this way. -
Quote:*sigh* Thread necro or not, an incorrect argument is still incorrect on your part. You've declared that things need to be easier so small or solo SGs can have all the shinies as quickly as the large SG can get them. I still want to know however, what exactly is it that a small three-character SG (as an example) has done to earn the same rewards as a 50-character SG.But when you reach that 400k point you must now wait an inordinate amount of time for the next functional upgrade. That's *inordinate* based on a comparison of only the other upgrades that have come before, and those that will come after, not some fantasy comic book world of bat-caves vs. justic-leagues.
Its an incongruity within the system, and it is off-putting for small or solo sg's. To go from having an upgrade of some sort every few days or once a week for months, to having to wait for a month or two months or longer for the next one does not make sense *within the context of the system itself*.
Even if both groups have been around since the creation of SGs, if the 50 character SG as a whole has done more mishes, TFs, etc to earn Prestige than the 3-character SG has, then the 3-character SG does not have the right to complain that they should have been awarded the same tangible rewards for their accomplishments.
If things were set up so that no group was able to cross that divide you're complaining about, then you'd have a valid point that something was broken. The problem however is that some groups can earn the means to bridge that gap faster than you can, and you and a few others apparently don't like that.
Go run some mishes (or play the market, if you prefer) and earn the Prestige to get the stuff you want, and the problem goes away. These are not the dark ages of base building when base rent was impossible to pay for any group at all. Costs came down by a lot in issue 13. The gap is far from insurmountable for small groups.
So yes, I'll continue to disagree with you, and I say this as the base designer for a group of at most 8 players who somehow manage to earn enough Prestige to keep six bases active and expanding, which is apparently impossible according to what you've said here. -
Running Tips mishes on my level 50 Inv/SS tanker for the last week, whenever I have a Devouring Earth mish, it spawns Greater Devoured as bosses, despite my difficulty set to not spawn bosses. This was not the case pre-i19, even if I had it set for x8.
All other factions from Tips seem to be spawning as normal, with bosses still being lowered to Lieutenant rank. -
Most of us use either desks (in particular the Counters in the Desk tab) or in some cases such as the space station bases, we use the various large containers in the Tech tab. Can also use the stone blocks from the Arcane tab, just off the top of my head. I know that I've also used some of the items in the Cabinets tab as well.
