  1. You guys rock!
    Thanks!
I always love the Halloween event!
The Zombie invasion was pretty fun too! Looking forward to more of it.

    Hurrah!

I'm not sure what is behind the resistance is to lowering the time needed

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't think the DEVs intend every/any character to have all the Day Job badges.
I think they will end up getting nerfed of players start trying to get all the Day Job badges on each character.

I'm pretty sure it is intended for extra flavor and not a mini-maxing thing.

I'm starting to think that they should limit any character to only having 4 or 5 Day Job badges. That would limit the number of Accolades a character could earn, and maybe that would stop this discussion about needing reduced time for each badge because each character MUST learn all the Day Job badges as QUICKLY as possible and because the set time is ALREADY (pre-release) TOO LONG to wait!
    Yikes!

The badges represent things you have done, not *what you are doing*

    [/ QUOTE ]

The DEVs have set the time as 30 days. You are saying that you can't wait 30 days and that it should be shorter period of time because it is, apparently, too long.

I've clarified my "now" previous as well. As far as I'm concerned, wanting it before the time that the DEVs have it set for is wanting it "now".

A little child can want a cookie "now", but the child's mom still will have to go to the cookie jar to get it. If she goes to get it when the child says "now", she's getting it for the child before she intended to give it to the child. To the child, it is "now".

This is not meant to be derogatory toward you. I'm saying it this way so that my point is clear. If you take it offensively, that's on you - not me.

    "Gotta catch them all!"

I have patience. It's apparently a rare trait these days.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I farmed Empath. Patience what now?

(of course, I'd never *ever* farm Empath twice. I do have a Hero and a Villain badger, but only one of them will have that badge.)

Side note, months ago I had a conversation with a prominent badger about day jobs joking about how they could make it as awful as possible (or, screw the pooch as my grand parents would say.) One of us jokingly said "I know, make you stay logged out for a month straight.".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I think there are more patience badges, you just have to keep being patient.

I've heard people complaining about the Vet Badges, too.
Oh, how horrid that they should have to play for 15 months for the vet wings!
Sure you can't get recipes for the vet-wings, but how many other kinds of wings can you get recipes for?

The time doesn't have to be continuous. So the month strait didn't happen.
....but none-the-less prophetic or hilarious that it came up in conversation!

I don't think it's awful at all, but then
    - I do have a lot of alts
    - I don't intend to try to get all the Day Jobs badges on one character
    - I don't even intend on getting Day Jobs badges for alot of my characters (because they aren't appropriate)
    - I'm only planning on getting Day Job badges that fit character conception or ones that lead to Accolades that are in character conception.
    - I will park my characters that I want to get certain Day Job badges at a parking spot for that badge when the Day Jobs go live.
    - I won't worry about how long it takes to get the Day Job badges

For my input, I'm now suggesting that once a Day Job Accolade is gained, there should be a period of at least another 30 days before another Day Job badge can be gained...if not longer...

How many Day Jobs can a hero have?

I'm sure if you dig through these forums you will see many more based on what I can guess from the implications in his message.
  7. [ QUOTE ]

This is disingenuous and I am tired of people saying it like it is fact. Nobody is asking for these badges "now". People are asking for them SOONER than one year. If you can't understand or don't care that badgers don't want to wait that long, then your opinion on the length of time doesn't really matter. I've seen nobody in this thread (to my recollection) suggest anything less than 10 days of offline time per badge. I personally think 14 or 15 days would be fine. Neither me nor anyone else is suggesting "now".

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, you can be tired all day long.
My opinion is worth as much as yours or anyone else's. I guess you need to learn that.

And, yes, there are people that "can't wait for the badges", and ones that have to have them "now".

You fall into the category of wanting go get the badge sooner than the DEVs are planning on allow you to get them because you don't want to have to wait. I'm assuming you want to get all of them as well - on the same character.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the DEVs intend a character to have all the day job badges.

And "now" really means as soon as possible or sooner.

I'm glad that you can't just buy another "expansion card pack" in CoH.
I'm glad that there are Vet Badges and that the day jobs will take 30 days to kick in.

I have patience. It's apparently a rare trait these days.
  8. CoX isn't going to play on the XBOX 360, so it won't compete and isn't in competition with Champions On-line for XBOX 360 customers.
How do you think a game that is designed for the XBOX 360 and computer systems is going to stand up against CoX?
How do you think a game based on one of the best RPGs systems ever made is going do sell to loyal followers once the system is gutted from it and all you have left of the original game are signature characters?

Champions Online is the Marvel Online project regeared into the Champions universe from what information I've seen.
The only archetypes you have in the Champions RPG are based on the skills and powers picked in character creation; they don't influence what powers you can have. Characters that are tough are Bricks. Characters that shoot ray beams are Blasters. But any character can buy any power - the system is points-based and any character can pick any power as long as the points add up. Champions Online starts with archetype selection.
I think advantages, limitations, and disadvantages have been thrown out the window.
If you are Champions RPG fan, you will know a pale imitation when you see one.

    --------

As for DCU online, I don't know how that one is going to pan out. It seems to me that they are going past their goals. It is likely to turn out like the platform games; you can be your own judge of what that means.
I'm sure that the DCU online will lure some DC followers to it - at least to check it out. It isn't going to pull away many Marvel or independent fans.
It's has some great mechanics ideas, but can they pull them off? and how will they influence game play?
Think it is hard sometimes to get a team together in CoH?
What if you had to worry about teaming with other characters because it would drag your alignment (stages of good or evil) around?
If you are the holiest of the good or the vilest of evil, you'll pretty much have to solo. If you are the run-of-the-mill you can contribute to dragging every other character to the center of the alignment spectrum.
And it will be another game of signature heroes. Players apparently won't be playing DCU characters; they will be running into them.

To me, neither game is a threat to City of Heroes from the start. Maybe years down the line they will have time to catch-up (good luck having the highest month vet-badge if you don't start playing until next year or two years from now). The other games probably will have a higher low-end graphics setting, but that will keep many people from being able to play it.

They potential loss is in players (that own computers) that have never played a super MMORPG before. Marketing needs to target new customers before they start playing the other games.
The trial account is a good start. Now it needs to be hyped to the public.
"Play for Free and see why City of Heroes has so many loyal fans! Amazing powers! Startling abilities! And a friendly community of helpful players!"
What MMORPG can say that! "A friendly community of helpful players!" - from what I can tell, that's virtually unheard of in the MMORPG market!

    Go, City of Heroes! GO!
  9. Well, I haven't read any of the other posts, but I'm sure there is lots of whining.
I would think that this is the kind of system where every character isn't supposed to get all the badges, and that makes sense to me.
This is about characters day jobs. Now, admittedly, I've quite a few jobs, but I'm "older than the hills and younger than the mountains". It took time to do all those different jobs and learn the skills.

Badge hounds are going to go crazy about getting ALL the badges - NOW - because they HAVE to have them ALL. I can understand that mentality. It still keeps Pokemon going - "Gotta catch them all!"

Me - well, I want day jobs for doing crazy stuff. Being in the bodies of water in the different parts of town, being up in trees, hiding in the few open chimneys in the city, standing in the door ways to shops (you know, you come out of a door that you stand in front of when you log out when you log back in), hiding out in the sewers, standing at a bus stop, blah, blah, blah, blah...but I know that this is a start. There will be more badges as the game evolves. City of Heroes is constantly in a state of flux. It is one of the things that makes City of Heroes a great game.

    I love this game!
  10. Thanks, KitsuneAscendant.
    That was very insightful.
I appreciate this information begin available for reveiw before purchase.
  11. Yeah, let's be able to put mission contacts in our bases so only people in our sg can run the missions we create.
    -
I wonder why someone would want to restrict who could run the missions that they create?
...I can think of a whole bunch of reasons why...
I don't think I need to list them here. I'm sure they are pretty obvious to the DEVs.
  12. [ QUOTE ]

It says "With the exception of those elements which are contained within the Selected Games..." That sounds like the scope of the game to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yep, I see that. It does say "elements", but it is not specific as to the meaning. Is that characters and building or actions? Seems weird to list all the other disclaimers if they are considered acceptable because they are "elements".

    True?
  13. "implies....conduct that is otherwise unacceptable in reality"
This is the one part that really affects the "Dark-side" aspect of this contest.
I didn't see any implied "dark-side" activities in the video that you referred to via your link. Sure there was footage of "bad guys" and CoV places, but anyone that hasn't played the game would know neither fact.
I think we all know what "dark-side" means -- "conduct that is ... unacceptable" aka evil. Unless we are going to say that "dark-side" just means spooky, but I don't think that is the intent.
Watch the teaser. See how they break these rules that they have posted.
  14. No. I don't think that is correct.
It is pretty clear. (read the official rules yourself)
It says nothing about the scope of the game.
It's to protect them from liability. The equivalent of the stickers that say not to stick your hand in a lawn mower blade and "don't try this at home kids" - only they don't want that kind of content (apparently).
    Remember. It isn't NCSoft's rules.
The rules have nothing to do with the game.
Several people have posted questions about this on the contest forums (www.gametrailers.com) and there has been no official response to the legitimate questions regarding this.
It would be nice if you were the interpreter; however, that's not the case. LightHouse has already pointed out that we need to take it up with them. We have; they haven't responded.
  15. uh, did anyone else read the official rules? The video on the site doesn't even follow the rules.
    Listen to this!
    Part 3 section a
    "... any....violence..."
"... any display of physical injury, death or property damage or conduct or activity that could cause physical injury or property damage or that is reasonably likely to do so..."
"...appears to display, encourages or implies that any activity or conduct that is otherwise unacceptable in reality, has been or could have been involved..."

I don't even need to delve deeper.

We are talking about a contest showing our "dark side" that has to do with a game about comic book violence....or did I miss something here?

I mean...the teaser spot shows "violence", "physical injury", "death" (sure doesn't look like that guys being arrested to me!), "implies....conduct that is otherwise unacceptable in reality" (or is joining a street gang considered legal at this point?).
I guess any use of mayhem missions are out as they show damage to property...
I'm not sure how being "dark side" in anyway is "acceptable in reality"...oh, wait...I do see that everyday practically...so maybe it is...but out and out supervilliany I'm assuming...well, maybe not...I've seen that considered acceptable too...
...so as long as it has to do with conspiracies..I guess it's okay...just not talk about bank robbing or flat out...or kidnapping...or....I guess maybe conspiracies are the only thing that is considered "darkside" but acceptable?
Meh....well...I guess we can do something with that...just have to make sure no one is getting attacked in the background while characters talk about conspiracies?
....I guess it is all a Nemsis plot after all...(except on weekend when they don't have enough staff on hand to cover everything...)
  16. I'm not one of the un-evenesss of chars per servers, but max 36 per is going to have some people want to transfer characters from one account to another.
2 slots + extra veteran slots really isn't that many free slots. But I won't look a gift horse in the mouth (which has nothing to do with the Trojan War btw; it would be an insult to check a horse's teeth if someone was giving it to you - you do that when your buying a horse..)
I gained 4 per server when adding CoV so, that was much cheaper and had alot of additional content.
I'm suprised you stopped the scaling at 5 chars. I'm sure there would be plenty that would by 10 or 20 at a time (since here will be 24 more slots per server?) - heck if I just wanted 4 more per server that would be 44!
I would really have liked the $4.95 for the 4 addtional slots per server or $9.95 for an expansion that came with costume, gear, etc. and 4 additional slots per server...oh, well...the "a couple on a specific " will make more loot for NCSoft....so I hope for some great game improvements!
  17. Boo! I certainly hope this is April Fools!
I really like the sound FX.
I don't mind having the visuals as an additional option, but to remove the existing sounds...please, no! STOP THE MADNESS!

Why get rid of something that works?

Can't it be set up so we have the option of having the Sound FX, having the Visual FX, or having both FX packages downloaded onto our harddrives if we want?
I have plenty of room for both!

If someone doesn't want one or the other, let them choose which to keep!

Please. Please. It will ruin part of my immersion factor if you take them away now!

If it's an April Fools joke, then good on you. I'll be that FOOL for a game that I love and sound effects that rock!
  18. This has been brushed under the rug multiple times, but, since I saw another player complaining on the help channel about need to respec-ing out of the teleport power pool, I'm going to bring it up again.
    -
There are problems with Teleport Self.
    1) They start with the dreaded "red ring of death". There are countless places in the city that you can run, jump, and fly to that you can't teleport to. In the middle of teleporting across town, you don't have much time between teleports and any place that shows up a red ring (showing a place you can't teleport to) could mean your death. This can be seen as easily as trying to teleport from the super group base entrance in Talos to the back door of Wentworths (you won't die traveling between the two, but there is no reason that you shouldn't be able to teleport into the back door Wentworths).
    2) Teleport Self is the only non-toggle travel power.
    3) Teleport Self is the only targeted travel power and range of movement is an issue.
    4) There is little time between teleports and this means that lag can mean your death much easier than with any other power pool. It is very easy to fall out of the air. If you fall into a group of foes, that cold very well mean a trip to the hospital.
    5) Hover is very necessary for the survivability of a teleporter and ease of use. No other travel power pool requires another travel power in order to make the travel pool really usable.
    -
I think this can be at least partially resolved by....
    1) there should be no "red ring of death". You should be able to teleport to anywhere that the cursor lands.
    2) Teleport should be a toggle power. Let it burn more end if necessary. It is already click to move. When Teleport Self is active, it puts you into a "non moving" hover state with the Teleport reticle up until the power is turned off. This way you will not fall out of the air while Teleport is on. You can't move, so it doesn't work as hover (which allows movement and gives a defensive bonus). The teleport reticle is separate from enemy/friend targeting, so other power uses should not be effected while Teleport Self is in use.
    -
In the past when I have started these threads, people have posted "there isn't anything wrong with teleport". That is not what this topic is about, so please refrain from posting that teleport is okay and there is nothing wrong with it.
Do please post problems that you have had with teleport and any suggestions that you may have that can help fix it.
    -
Thanks for taking this into consideration before posting.
  19. You might have seen my posts to be wary of SG/VG scams.
    I usually don't get involved with SG/VG's.
Though I can not vouch for the good (or bad) intentions of other SG/VG - I can tell you that I really appreciate the Repeat Offenders. I have a character in Fortissimo (Virtue Heroes) and Black Ice (Justice Villians).
Most RO SG/VGs do require players to have certain powers by certain levels, but these restrictions are usually not very harsh, tend to be within the conception of most characters, and - from my experience - put in place for 1) sg/vg continuity (ala the Green Lantern Corps) and 2) team synergy <sp?>. As there are multiple SG/VGs across multiple severs (Freedom, Justice, and Virtue) within the network, there is probably one that will meet your needs.
If you join, expect a mature gaming environment.
Team recruitment posts are only for active RO SG/VGs. If you aren't on a RO SG/VG, this is not a place to start your own PuG (Pick-up Group).
I'm mostly an RO Merc and they are good about allowing me to fill in on teams that are started by RO SG/VG members.
  20. Oh, and speaking of which - Go, Repeat Offenders!
I don't know how many other multi-sg/multi-server sg/vg's are out there, but RO is super cool.
See you out there game-side, Monkey!
  21. The City Rocks!
Keep on giving me more Alt fodder! Yahoo!
  22. Dual Blades - Can't see them in action. From the poses, looks like the swords are a bit long (but I guess we are in a Final Fantasy world). Some of the positions look a bit combat awkward. I hope at least some of the "moves" involve keeping the target at range with one blade while delivering a blow with the other - ie. preferably one with a acc-debuff and def-debuff (unless there is some other way to portray the ability to lock-up/parry opponents weapon with one blade while openning them up with a shot with the other). Thought it is not always the case, curved blades tend to be more for mounted warriors. Strait blades for people on foot. Think about the motion of the blade when you impale someone while riding and you'll see why I'm saying that. I do understand that curved blades look cool and you want to give them a different look from the other bladed weapons. I was expecting more short swords (or sai), a parrying blade and rapier, or batons/fighting sticks. Criticism aside. I'm looking forward to seeing the power-set in motion.
    -
Willl power - I can't get the site to come up. I'm pretty security concious, so it may have been blocked due to some spurious cookie or another that may cause other users security issues. Just a heads up. Of course, maybe other people are getting to the link a different way other than clicking on it and maybe the link itself is bad. I don't know which. I can't get IE to bring it up at any rate.
  23. Yahoo! Filled up test server slots again! Not all have secret id's, but 7 of them do....lol and only one with a trenchcoat secret id...but that's such a classic...how can you pass on that one at least once...
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Hmmm. I don't remember that content poll...

I may have voted in it, or I may not have.
    Now I feel bad.

    Oh well.

Grats Pos, lookin forward to another year.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I only saw one poll and it wasn't much of one. Basically, it only asked to pick two of a list of pre-generated environments [ie. Underwater, space station, moon, mars, etc.].

I really don't want to show disrepect for a great game, but someone has to say it.

I really don't wan to pay a monthly fee and have to buy a new "expansion" every two years. Maybe this is what it take to keep this game on-line. I don't know. I know that the last new box was $40+ and came with an increase in my monthly fee. Minor benefit that it was - the most benifit that I recieved was my additional character slots and Siren's Call (which I go to pretty infrequently because the balance is still terribly broken in my opinion - and it is still "tag your it" no matter what anyone says). I don't want to play a villian all the time. I'll play one infrequently - and even less so than I would if they were really villians.
CoV feels like I'm still a hero - I'm just doing sort-of bad things - if that makes any sense. I steal money, but I don't really get it. I steal weapons, but I don't get them - I turn them over to someone else? Anachros broke me out of jail, but their thugs attack me on the street. I kidnap people, but I don't hold them for ransom - I turn them over to someone else. But players seem to be enjoying it, and that's fine. I'd like to see how much player time has been spent in CoV versus CoH since CoV has been release though. I bet it is pulling players away from CoH - thus, lessening the ability to get on/gather a team - and it is a team based game....
I'd like to see more varied lower level content - new story lines. I have a 50 sure, but If it's just more missions at 50 - it seems kind of pointless to me. I like that rush of leveling and that new feeling of getting a new power, even if I've achieve it with another character.
What made me really upset was how CoV was made to appear to be a big new stand alone thing, well I guess CoV was stand alone. Get CoV and get the content. it's just CoH wasn't stand alone with out CoV - don't get CoV, dont' get the new content (superhero bases, access to the PvP zones.) You can still play it, but... you know what I'm saying.
    - The bases and PvP access should have been given as a free expansion to CoH. We shouldnt' be required to have CoV to have access to CoH content.
Boxed expansion (I mean stand-alone game I guess) versus free expansion..free expansion? Well, I did pay for it or you wouldn't have made it. It's just that my monthly fees went to the new content versus paying for a box a the store. This new free content is mroe for the CoV players than its for the CoH players, and Once the next box set comes out, we can expect the new "free"c content to be for the new boxed set versus the CoH or CoV - of course, it looks like the New CoX will cap-ons for CoH and CoV, so that "stand alone game" will probably necessary to have complete content for both CoH and CoV, of course - you could just get it and get all the benefits of the new game...and quit playing CoH and CoV...it will just lure more people away from CoH...This new box set (expansion) will have to be pretty major to get me excited enough to buy it...and I'll tell you now, the only reason I bought CoV was pretty much the beta. If I hadn't had the chance to play the beta, I wouldn't have given it a chance - extra slots or no - PvP or no.
heck even PvP is getting to be a joke. Characters are standing on top of a building duelling in Siren's call on Champion server...why aren't they in the arena? Heroes and villians standing side by side? attack a villian and the heroes don't help you and the villians swarm you because you are disrupting them? what's that all about?
I don't even know what the gladiator thing was all about.
Free ideas are great to get, they are free and you can turn them around and make money off of them. That's great. You can even pick and choose which ones are "yours' and take credit for them. Great. There are alot of people posting. Lots of free content ideas.
    I'm furstrated. I'm tired.
There are more fans that are excited. You can get back to one of their posts now....that seems to be most of them....
...I do really like the idea of CoH, and I love to play with people that want to be heroes...
I just don't see anyone saying that it ain't all sunny and roses...so here's this post. I've wasted enough of my free time.
I'd delete this, but I've already wasted my time writing it.
