  1. I blew up a bunch of Clockwork with Self-destruct on Sunday morning.
  2. Hey, you were that guy that didn't care what my opinion was on another thread.

    You are already /ignored.

You response is meaningless and probably intentionally trolling.

Feel free to be a jerk. It suits you.

    The mood on MA

    [ QUOTE ]
Was I in the bad for exploiting the ‘Awesome Button’?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yes.

It was clearly stated by the DEVs when they first brought up the MA and many times since that they were not giving us the MA so that we could use it for farming or Power-leveling.

Really this isn't the thread to be talking about that aspect of this.
    That should be here ::

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...page=0&vc=

I like the MA. I think it is fun making missions for it.
I think if people can get off their high-horse about their "rights" to abuse the system, the MA can become the truly great thing that can be.

    Stopping the abuse isn't oppression.
Abusing the system is counter-productive to the longevity of the game.
It is a reality that "some" of us want this game to last. That won't happen with insta-50's and hyper-inf inflation.

I, however, feel that there will be people abusing the MA until they are stopped and have to pay a penalty for what they are doing. That is the only way to stop them.

    Bottom-line.

As long as "they" can get away with exploiting, that is what "they" will do.
  4. Yeah. I use:

    /macro Heal "inspexec_name respite"

If editing macro's wasn't wonky at this point, I'd suggest adding the other heal insp names in with editing, but it's acting weird when I try to edit.
The code that you would want to splice onto the end while editing the macro would be ::

    $$inspexec_name "dramatic improvement"$$inspexec_name "dramatic improvement"

I use a Logitech Dual-Action gamepad and I think it works great for the game. I play about 95% gamepad.

I have one of my buttons set for nearest target and one set for next. That works pretty good.

I try to set up all my powers in the same kind of pattern for my various characters so that I can play all of them on the fly without having to do a whole lot to adjust to the different powers.
  5. oh, and by the way - the /help is not a channel
/help pulls up a help menu
but you can access the [Help] channel by using /hc

Kind of confusing as all the other channels have the name of the channel after the /, but so many new players apparently complained because they weren't getting the help menu by typing /help that they changed the /help channel access command to /hc.

    Confused?

Yeah, it doesn't make much sense but that's what's gong on at this point with the [Help] channel.

Good luck, btw, and welcome to the City.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
I see several "how do you know if it is too hard" objections, which would be valid if the author stayed in godmode through the whole design cycle.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You don't have to test the mission before you can publish it, so it isn't like allowing someone to cut-out part of the cycle by "pre-viewing" the mission in test mode by using an "unkillable" tester setting.

I think this "unkillable" tester setting would allow you have some grasp of how powerful creatures are even if they can't kill you. The easiest way would be to allow a character to be beaten down to 0 hp, but they simply don't fall as they normally would.

I think it is a good idea because you could use it to concentrate on the surroundings and the mission texts with out worrying about being defeated. I find it much easier to find text coloring issues when I'm running a mission. I also find when spell checking and grammar checking my own work it is easier to catch things when the are in a different frame of reference. This goes for all my writing in general.
So if I'm paying more attention to staying alive then "testing" - aka checking -, then I'm not really able to do the "testing" - aka checking - that is the whole point of running that kind of test.

I will admit that I do much of my "testing" live for xp at any rate. That goes from group testing to final mission testing. If it is a group test or far from being completed I simply unpublish it. If it close to being completed it just jump right on to editing as soon as I've completed it and just republish it when completed.

I've debated about chiming in on this thread for a while, but I might as well since I agree that it would be a useful development tool.
Long, long ago when I was making a computer game, I put in a "unkillable" mode simply so I could check to make sure everything was working as intended. This feature definitely makes sense.
Both modes of testing are very useful.
  7. The travel powers are situated at level 6 and level 14 so that you can appreciate getting them.
The goal isn't instant gratification. It is working to become more powerful and feeling the triumph of being able to do something that you couldn't do before.

If you can travel around the city with travel powers from the get go, you do not appreciate them nearly as much as you do after you have run around the city on foot.
    Agreed?

    That's the point.
The same goes for leveling. You run into groups that you can't beat. You have to avoid them or they will send you to the hospital. After several levels, suddenly they better be the ones looking out for you.

If you want to fly before level 14, it isn't that hard to get a raptor pack by level 7 or 8 by doing safeguard/mayhem missions.
If you want to superjump before level 14, it isn't hard to get a jump jet pack by level 10 by doing safeguard/mayhem missions.

You can even buy the Good vs Evil booster and get a jet pack at level 1.
You can buy the Mac Edition/Valkyrie booster and get a mission teleporter! (I don't know how early this kicks in, but I figure by level 4 or 5 at least).

There is really no reason to diminish the game by allowing people to have travel powers at level 1. Because that is what it is doing, its diminishing the game.
It is diminishing the game in the same way as allowing someone to make a 50 from the get-go.

Earn the reward and the reward is worth something. Give the reward away and it isn't worth a thing.

The game is about the quest to become a great hero .... not start off as one.
  8. It isn't a discussion. That's my point of view.
  9. The newer platform-systems can search the internet (the draw back needing that you don't only need the internet connection but you can sometimes be required to pay a monthly fee to go through the platform's network to get out to the internet.). Pretty much what you miss out on are utility programs (word processing, spread-sheets, etc.).

I did a lot of platform a gaming before CoH came out. I was never "catch and release". I would buy new and used games, but I would never sell them back for trade. The ones that I had that I would have sold wouldn't have sold back for enough to make it worth giving up the game - pretty much no matter how bad it was, it was still worth more than $2 to me.

The main draw of the platform-machines is that they are much cheaper than computers. They are starting to edge up there though, so things might be changing if they platform-makers don't watch their price-point.

CoH pretty much killed platform-gaming for me.

    ---

    Oh, right back on subject.

I think it's the opposite of what the OP said. Adults are usually using their disposable income on their children. It's the children (of various ages) that have disposable income. The children aren't usually paying for where they live or the food they eat, etc.
I would agree that more children have platform systems as compare to adults. Adults that have a platform system tend to have a computer as well.

Also, platform games have a shorter life span. I've been playing CoH for almost 5-years. I probably would have been buying between 3-6 platform games a year if it weren't for CoH.
The new "games" that I have bought since CoH came out was CoV, and I've been gifted the boosters for the game.
In the end, due to the subscription price, I actually pay more per year to play CoH than I spent on platform games. And that isn't including the computer which cost far more than a platform system.

Since it doesn't include subscriptions...I think that impacts what is really happening in regards to gaming dollars spent.
  10. I don't want to see co-op supergroups.
I think that the groups in the Rogue area should be separate from both sg and vgs. They should be rougegroups.
That goes for the Markets and Vaults as well. You should get frisked on the way in and on the way out to strip you of what you have on you.
But I've always been for keeping the sides separate.
I don't want to see a merger to gray-dom. I get enough of that in real life.
  11. No chewing needed.

    I don't think that anyone should power-level.

People do it. I think that new players doing it are ruining their enjoyment of the game. What many consider to be a grind, I feel to be the hero's journey. You don't truly become something if it is handed to you on a silver platter.
You didn't earn it. Here it is.
The journey is the game. By bypassing the the experience of working your way up to the xp needed to level, you are missing the game. By leveling "normally" through content, you have plenty of time to get adjusted to each new power and use it enough to gradually get an over-all view of the interaction of your powers. This is to say nothing about missing out on actually "teaming" with other people in order to learn to play cooperatively with various groups of players and archetypes. I'm not even going to go into the one-tactic mindset or just considering yourself uber knowledgeable because you have a 50 or a epic archetype character due to the fact you were power-leveled.
By power-leveling to 50, you undermine what it means to be a level 50. Being level 50 or having a Epic Archetype character doesn't mean what it used to. Once upon a time, having a 50 or an epic archetype character meant that you could be trusted to have some grip on the game content. Forget that. It's shot out the window and gone.
Luckily, we can look at other people's badges and see how long someone has played. That is the only way to have even a somewhat accurate estimate on how familiar someone is with game play.

No one should be power-leveled or should power-level. You can move fairly fast through content while playing it. You don't prove to anyone that you are a great Hero or a vicious Villain by being power-leveled. You are a cape-rider and a wannabe.

You may have the power of a 50, but that doesn't prove anything to me.
  12. J-Force :: The Unseen Supergroup of Over-populated Freedom

There is something inexplicable about the so called J-Force. One of these things is that so many people seem to think that you either have to love or hate them. Whatever the case maybe, what I have to ask is who the heck are the J-Force and why would they be offering so much influence to have people write about them if they weren't trying to get more publicity?

The inexplicable part of the J-Force to me is that I have never run into them. Yes, I have heard rumor of this infamous J-Man and the rag-tag group of followers that are members of said J-Force. I have even seen a J-Force tag on a wall - perhaps it was in King Row? This highly visible J-Force has the amazing ability to hide in plain sight on the most populated server (aka Shard) known only as "Freedom". Some would think that a group of this incredible presence would be unmissable with in the plethora of heroes within those tall concrete and force-field walls of Paragon City, but they would be wrong.

It has come to my attention that some love the J-Force, while others just have a bitter, in-built hatred for them. Is this a matter of being heroic or villainous, or is it something else entirely. I'm sure many have good grounds for picking either decision, at least as far as their own personal opinions of the situation. I myself have no real call at all and, therefore, stand with both feet firmly in neutral ground on the situation. J-Force has doing nothing astonishing that I have witnessed, nor have I seen them functioning in a catty or underhanded manner. I have simply had no contact with them whatsoever.

So really it comes down to why would they be offering a whopping full billion influence for people to boost their egos with praise or smash them to tiny bits upon the rocky shore of ridicule? It seems a quite spectacular way for a group that seems greedy for attention to draw such to themselves so that they can squirm in the sheer delight of it's presence. Oh, yes, the may be another reason. It may be publicity. Perhaps membership is down among the said J-Force. And what of their leader J-Man? It is said he is legendary, but has not his so-called J-Man said that he was legendary all along?

In closing, I would like to point out a few things about the J-Force. They are apparently in need to show proof that they are mighty and possibly legendary by giving away a large amount of influence for perhaps no other reason than being benevolent to the community that they hold dear. The fact that I have fought in the streets of the Shard known as Freedom for many years and have seen no sign of the said J-Force leads me to believe that they may be purely mythic and, in fact, may not actually exist; are the J-Force simply a "big fish" story? It apparently has been said that you have to love the J-Force or hate them. To me this is simply not the case. Who is this J-Force and who has truly seen the legendary acts of J-Man? I can not make judgment upon what I have not encountered, unfortunately, that includes the J-Force.
  13. Mission accomplished.
    We found that Midnighter.
  14. you can stay in the mission, just send me an invite. I sent you a tell.
  15. what's your character name?
I'll be on over there with Astral Form in a minute to help you look.
  16. what server are you on?
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Everyone level is in every zone

    [/ QUOTE ]

Besides the obvious fact that some levels can't get into some hazard zones, the AE has allowed players to team with any level.
If you haven't seen lower leveled players in Peregrine Island begging for farms or PL'ing, -- I have to ask -- where have you been?
    Siren's Call apparently...

    [ QUOTE ]
    teams are scarce

    [/ QUOTE ]

I sever jump a lot, but I was on two different PuG teams on Freedom this week and was invited to several more.
    Not seeing the scarcity.
If you can't find a team, start one.

    [ QUOTE ]
AE farms are terrible at best

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Define terrible.
I don't think that there should be ANY AE farms, so they are all "terrible" to me.

    [ QUOTE ]
PvP is a dead zone EVEN on freedom

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Have you tried Infinity?
I've heard that Infinity was one of the PvP Servers.
I haven't done any PvP for a while though. I have been busy doing other things.

    [ QUOTE ]
I play siren's call and it used to be booming all day every day. RV is okay

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe all that rampant PL'ing in the MA/AE means that the player base that was in Siren's Call is now in Recluse's Victory, Warbug, or the Arena?

    [ QUOTE ]
But still, is it just me or has the population deteriorated in a big way?

    [/ QUOTE ]

There are less people on than were on during Reactivation Weekend, but other than that I would have to say no.
  18. What was the cap that you put on your credit card purchases at the NCSoft site?

That might have something to do with it as well.
  19. Check out the last paragraph or so of this ::

    https://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthre...SID=&fpart=

It isn't meant as derogatory toward what you want. It does offer an option of exactly what you want - maybe even more so than you are asking for.
  20. One of the best things that you can do at this point is to post to this thread ::
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthrea...page=0&vc=1

The MA was never intended to be a farm-making tool.
Help make your voice clear that farming missions need to be removed or be clearly marked as such so that the MA can be used for what it was intended to be used for.

Those of you that are farmers, like farming mission, etc. - you should know that all of us don't want to farm. Those of us that don't want to farm should not be forced to go out of our way not to farm.
Yes. The MA was not designed to be a farm-creating tool.
No. You don't have an excuse for using a tool in the wrong manner.

Telling someone not to use the MA/AE because they are having a hard time find a mission that isn't a farm is a "farming" problem.

You do understand that the MA is a really big deal because it allows players to create their own content, right?
That this is some ground breaking in-game technology that was created to allow us to tell stories and create adventures in game, right?

Turning something that has such great potential into a travesty of farming is just sick.

On the other hand, we could just drop the City of Rogues idea and have the DEVs create the City of Farming. That would give all the farmers some place to go where they could be happy doing what they like to do and they could leave the rest of us alone.
  21. I did a search on this and found no results - hence, this post.

I am working on creating long arcs. It would be cool if other players ran my arcs, but I'm not worried about ratings. I'm writing the arcs for fun. I'll be rotating stories in-and-out. I will probably keep ones that have more votes at any given time in, but will still give me at least one slot to rotate - and, at this point, I'll probably rotate all of them as new arc are made.
This is just to make it clear that I'm not really overly concerned about ratings or plays.
I don't really have a stance on this subject.

It appears that here maybe far more people running very short and short arcs as compared to longer arcs.

I'm not saying that this is good or bad, but it does appear that it will be easier for a very short or short arc to reach the +999 status than a longer arc. (time-wise this should be obvious)

How do you feel about that?

Will it make you more likely to make a "very short" or "short" arc -- in order, to have the possibility that it will be played by more players simply due to the length of the arc?

Are you concerned at all if other players play your arcs or not?
  22. This has been suggested repeatedly.
If people want to filter their e-mail to get e-mails from friends only, there should be no problem with this.

[u]I ONLY GET E-MAIL FROM RMT SPAMMERS. I AM SICK OF IT. I DON'T WANT TO LOG INTO THE GAME TO GET A RED E-MAIL - YOU HAVE RMT SPAMMER MAIL!!!! ANY MORE.

AM I YELLING. YES. I AM SICK OF IT.
I AM SICK OF PEOPLE DEFENDING THE RIGHTS OF PEOPLE TO SPAM E-MAIL ME.
IN FACT, IT IS ILLEGAL IN VIRGINIA TO SEND SPAM E-MAILS! TOO BAD IT IS WAY TOO HARD TO ENFORCE THAT LAW.
    [u]

There is nothing wrong with a player being able to activate a filter to get e-mail from frends only, sg members only, etc.

There is something wrong with someone defending the rights of someone to send me RMT e-mails that are EULA breaking.

    Bring on the filters!

[EDIT :: BTW - accounts that are "banned from sending e-mail" by the "spam" button in the e-mail window, are only "banned from sending e-mails" temporarily. Apparently, their accounts aren't even closed. So as soon as their "banned' status is gone, they can start sending spam e-mails all over again.
And, as many know, the gignore space is far too small to handle all the RTM e-mail spammers - let alone the players that we are /gingoring for what ever reason we individual felt it was necessary to do so.]
  23. As far as grammar and spelling go, it has to be pretty bad before I use that as a reason to give a -1 star to a mission (I start my grading at 5 and work my way back from there due to flaws). In fact, I don't think I have ever down rated a mission due to grammar or spell.

A friend asked me to run their arc and there was a lot of Engrish going on. I didn't know if it was intentional or not, so I pointed it out as such. But I did not go into details.

We aren't getting paid. As long as in the intent is there, I give an arc the benefit of the doubt.

Everyone has those things that "pushes their buttons". So I can see this with the so-called "Grammar Elitists".

I know mine is "Kill Them All"s. That's a -1 star from the get go ... and that's if I run the arc. I try to avoid those arcs from the get go - so most of the time I'm not rating them at any rate. Sometimes I'm too lazy to check the info before I pick the arc and then I just dread it when I run into that "Kill Them all".

If these "Grammar Elitists" catch grammar or spelling issues in the "promo blurb" for the mission, maybe they should just not run it?
  24. Why do that?

It doesn't fit into the tanker archetypes general attitude, right?

This is one of the reasons that I generally try to avoid inviting tankers to teams.
It is good to see this kind of post, it helps me reaffirm my belief that a good many of them are just too full of themselves.

Some tankers need to take a chill-pill, ease up, and learn to work with a [u]team[u].

I certain hope all those kins that Winters_Rose is kicking put Winters_Rose on /gignore and 1 star rate Winters_Rosein Notes.
    I know I would.
