....Tankers to get more damage in a way that encourages Tankers to team...

    [/ QUOTE ]

You mean like by teaming with archetypes that are damage dealers?

I keep seeing these threads pop up about tankers needing to do more damage.

Tankers need to understand their archetype, learn their position/place/advantage for a team, or pick another archetype that does damage.

No archetype is supposed to be the end-all uberest. Each Archetype is supposed to rely on the others.

I've said it all along that I think tankers are the most over-powered of all the archetypes. I still hold that stance.

A tanker that wants to do more damage should team with a blaster or a scrapper (if it is a heroes only team) - even a kheldian!

If a tanker can't beat them down fast enough by themselves, then a defender or controller can heal the tanker, buff the tanker, debuff the enemy, hold the enemy, etc. so that the enemy can e defeated faster or, at least, the tanker doesn't fall.

The game really has in-build advantages of being on a team.

I'm against seeing tankers being given any more damage than they already have, their resistance to most attacks tends to be over-powering for the archetype enough as it is in PvE and way over-powering in PvP.
  2. Well, since no one has said it yet.

The server population works like this.
The server at the top is the one you logged into.
The one below that is the one that has the lowest population per capacity.

The one at the bottom has the highest population per capacity.
Freedom and Virtue are always the two most populated servers. There is usually PvP action on both.
Justice and Infinity tend to juggle for spots 3 and 4.

Some say that Infinity is the PvP server. The same way that Virtue is the RP server. If you haven't figured out what Pinnacle is, then I'm sure you will soon.

The other alternative is to copy a character to the test server. Your character stays on the live servers, but it is copied to the test server. See a link for that here ::

    https://secure.cityofheroes.com/cgi-bin/coh_transfer.pl

There tends to be a good amount of PvP going on there when it is open.

But I'd really try one of the more populated servers as well.
Check out the Forum here for each server and post there. I'm sure they will let you know the current PvP levels.

I've been busy with the other stuff lately. I server jump alot, but I haven't been keeping up with PvP since the MA went live.
  3. If you are going to "fix" sb to make it easier to apply, could you do the same thing for density increase, clear mind, any kind of force fields, etc. (list every power in the game that needs to be applied to one teammate a time - sb is only one of them!).

I think a command that would cycle numerically through team mates (and not just ones in your vision range)(and only team mates - not pets, etc.) would go a long way to help in this sort of situation.

Generally, when I play a kin, I'm sb-ing every mob or two and density increasing every mob if I have the chance.

If you think a kin is bad, play an empath on an 8-man team and see how concentration intensive it is!
  4. First off, did you have free slots?
If so, why are you deleting?

    First off, character concept:
Definately a blaster, definately all range, and technology. Think sexy cybergirl meets Seven of Nine meets Data meets Iron Man.

Is her hair green, purple, or blue?

    [ QUOTE ]

At first Energy/Energy would suit her, but considering the lack of damage output, slow attack animations (lots of scrappers) coupled with the already mouth-foaming hate I was recieving from groups because of my knockback (lots of scrappers), I decided I'd try something else

    [/ QUOTE ]

(I kind of find this knockback comment funny after I was on a team with a shield tanker that was practically foaming-at-the-mouth from self induced rotfl from using shield rush to knock groups all over the place - off platforms in all different directions, etc. After the second time I bolted down the area with Carrion Crawlers before he could bust a mob all over the place, he quit the team.)

My level 50 blaster is energy/energy. I very rarely had anyone give me a hard time about the knockback - however, that blaster's concept is mostly single target. The character has the the cone knockback for self-defense; if they get that close to me, then the scrappers aren't doing their job. The only other AoE the character has is Nova, and, from my viewpoint, anyone that complains about knockback from a nuke that generates that much damage doesn't have their priorities strait.

One of the keys with knockback is trying to force an enemy into a corner and keep them there. So if you do use AoE's with knockback place them a little off center of the enemies so that the opposing side is a corner or a wall. This will limit their dispersion by the knockback.

I'm a little at a loss as to why you think the damage is low.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Help?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Don't panic.
Don't "reroll"/delete unless you are out of slots.

Not everyone will agree with me, but this is my stance of blasters. I have 17 of them.

You can switch back and forth. You don't have to play just one!

Different kinds of blasters are more efficient working in different ways. You have to play with them to figure out what works best and when - for you.

In general, blasters need to know when to run. Having a corner nearby is great. That corner has 100% def and 100% resistance. Use it.
At the very least, falling back can string out a mob. Stringing out a mob can go a long way.
If you are a blaster and get down below 1/4 health, I strongly suggest you run and hide until you have lost agro - unless of course, you have already run before that point.

Agro management - As far as I'm concerned, all tanks should have taunt and should be actively using it. If they are, it can protect a blaster from pretty much all agro. Unfortunately, this is not the case in normal play.
The one target that you know for sure the tank, scrapper, etc. has agroed is the one that they are attacking. If you do more damage than a scrapper than you can steal the agro from them. If at all possible target "through" a tank - even if they don't taunt, there is a highly likelihood that they will keep the agro. It will also mean that both of you are attacking the same target so that target will go down faster.
As you are trying to get someone else to cover your agro, if you are on a team that can't hold the agro, don't use AoE's!

Always carry a full column of break-frees and at least one full column of respites (I suggest at least 2 columns of respites! I usually go for 3!).
If you get mezed, the break-frees can save you. If you get mezed, it is 90% likely that you should withdraw to a distance where, at least, any cone-mez's can't reach you.
The last respite in your tray is to keep you alive when you are running away.

The mission door/elevators are your friends. Don't have any problem with fleeing downstairs or out of a mission if doing so will keep you on your feet.

I highly suggest that you don't try to blapper it. Your close-range attacks are for when an enemy gets in your face and they are almost out of hp's.

Remember that blasters are ranged attackers, use range to to your advantage. Fall back as the enemy approaches you. Run when you need to. Target through someone else in order for them to keep the agro - preferably a tank that isn't switching targets alot (and wait for them to attack first). Be prepared, always stock break-frees and respites.
  5. Well, Why have neutral content at all? (I guess it is pre-Going Rogue gray area content... maybe?)

Yeah, okay. It is a simulation - for some reason - and not actually the "real" CoX world. - or - are we really creating alternate dimensions just as real as any of the alternate dimensions that the DEVs create?

    Bah.
Reasons can be made up for why, I still don't like the mechanic if it works that way.

    DANG ONE STAR!

    [ QUOTE ]
Ok...pisses me off. Just posted my new arcs and of course...1 starred! Pisses me off that someone has the tenacity of doing that. WTH is wrong with these people that are doing that? Heck...if you don't like something...there is a feedback thing say it. If you do, say that to. Don't be an idiot and show what part of the gene pool should be irradited and be too chicken to own up. Heck don't like it...1 star, but tell me something about it...that's cool. The no comment thing is a ******...

    Ok that's my rant.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I gave this thread a 1 star.
The OP content contains unnecessary vulgarity.

I guess it may have only been worth 1 star as you didn't list the name of your arc or the arc #?
What is the name of your arc and what is the arc #?

I don't think people being required to reply is a good thing. The DEVs are supposedly keeping track of players that are 1 starring a lot.

I don't know how good your arc was, so I can't judge at all.

If it was all "******" this, and "******" that. I would have 1 stared it.

I have an arc that no one has played, one that a couple people have played, and one about 20 or so have played.
I'm going to rotate arcs in and out as I finish more.

If you only made one mission, make another one.

The mission I posted 3rd has had the most plays, and it is the longest of my arcs. I honestly don't think that it is really any better than my first arc, though my first arc has an EB on the second mission while the third arc I wrote the EB is on the last mission.

I've heard it more than once in various creative fields.
Treat rejection letters as a badge of courage.
I've seen people that have done X better than you that never sold their work, but I've also seen people that were a lot worse than you that sold because they were persistent.

Don't get pissed. Make more arcs.
    Practice makes perfect.

I don't know if it is a 1 star or a 5 star. I just hope that person voted how they honestly felt and didn't just can you for no reason.

    Chin up.

    oh, and quit your pissin'!

    new to the game

The official guides are here ::

    http://www.cityofheroes.com/game_inf..._overview.html

The tutorial missions are very good and give you a good grasp of everything you need to know in order to get playing. Read everything. Take your time. It will really help with the basics of the mechanics.

When you get the chance go to the University in Steel Canyon or Cap au Diable and do the mission arc there for info on crafting.

When you are ready to deal with the Markets, talk to the Wentworths or Black Market reps near their respective market places.

Use /hc to access the [Help] channel to ask players questions in game.

There is a lot of information out there.

I find it a lot more fulfilling to learn as you go and enjoy the experience of finding new things as they arise.

Ask players on your team questions.
If you aren't sure what to do, hang back and follow the teams lead.

We have been known to be a very helpful and polite community. Pretty much anywhere you are in the game you will be able to find people that are willing to help you.
That doesn't mean asking them for loot, etc. It means asking questions.

But there is a lot to be said for exploring some on your own and learning your own angle on the game.

Welcome to the City/Isles ... and good luck out there!
  11. Dag, I was going to check that.

Yeah, I agree that it makes no sense for Heroes to be running villainous missions and villains playing heroic missions.
I kind of thought that was the whole reason for neutral missions (and have made/planned many of mine neutral).

Oh, well, maybe it will have an impact on "alignment" when City of "Going Rogue" is released.
  12. Did you think you were renewing your subscription to an MMORPG, a first person shooter, or City of Farmers
    ( http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...age=0&vc=1 )?

An MMORPG is a RP'ing game.
    CoX is a MMORPG.
    CoX is a RP'ing game.
Of course, the DEVs are trying to cater to the RP'rs in the City.
Is there reason that doesn't make sense to you?

Why dress up in a costume (even street clothes - you can pick your look) in a "super hero" world with a character that has "super powers" unless you wanted to RP being a super-hero, super-villian, or super being in a super-heroic world?

    Why are you playing CoX?
What kind of game did you think it was?
    It's a serious question.

The MA was created for the RP'ing of the missions not how they could be abused for farming or PL'ing.
If the DEVs wanted a way to PL characters they could give everyone the option to level up to what ever level they wanted to at any trainer.
If the DEVs wanted to improve the rewards of farming, they could give everyone free access (easy harvest) to any thing they wanted. All they player would have to do was click on it.

Does that make a good game?

Perhaps we should add more RP to first-person shooter multi-player games?

How about RP situations in "real-time" simulation games?

I am honestly shocked at how often players complain about RP'ing in an RP'ing game.

It just proves again how much demand there really is out there for City of Farmers ( http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...age=0&vc=1 )

Yeah. I'm still as serious as with my original post about how much demand there would be for City of Farmers.
I do not agree with the players that say it would clear the City proper of a majority of players.
I think that it would give farmers what they want and allow the City proper to be use what it was intended for - RP'ing being a super and playing RP related content.
Though the DEV content is mostly about Signature characters and their exploits, the MA opens the door for player character and supergroup related missions - and missions that have nothing to do with player characters or signature characters (and that is a huge area).
As far as I know MA created content has far surpassed the amount of DEV created content in the game.
It is a shame that it can be hard to be find MA content that is truly what it was intended to be because the instances of abuse are so abundant.

RP isn't a four-letter word in a MMORPG. RP is what it is about.
Of course, the DEVs cater to the RP'rs.

It really shouldn't shock you or anyone else in the least bit.

Also, the patch notes =/= the eula.

Also also, don't you guys think that Niv or someone would have put a stop to it if they read it and said, "gosh that's against our policy"...? Instead, she posts the poster... hmmmm.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yeah, that's exactly my point.

That's why I was wondering if there was a change.

It is obvious that the DEVs have been doing it all along. No argument there.

It is also obvious that I took quotes strait from information generated by the DEVs.

I'm working intentionally to not do either - because of the rules.

I saw this posted with, apparent, backing by Niv (as you say) - therefore, I had to point out that which seemed to be blatant non-conformity with the rules.

I know it may seem like I'm trying to start an argument, but I'm just pointing out something that seems clearly obvious.

Either the rules have changed, someone isn't paying attention, or the rules clearly don't mean anything.
  14. The team that has skilled players that know how to act as team in order to get the most out of each players powers - regardless of archetype, side, or power sets.
  15. I had one of these in a mission.

The character was not "attackable", but the mission would not complete because the character was following the player to the door. It was an outdoor forest map and even when we dragged the character through the zoning out area the character couldn't find the door and, therefore the mission would not completed.

But the mission did not fail.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Used to be that if someone was a level 50, you could count on a certain level of skill and teamwork, because they had worked hard through all the zones, and knew what to do.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's been years since that was the case, probably more than 4... unfortunately....

Use the Add Note feature. Turn the show stars option on.
It makes it easy to keep track of the players that don't have a concept of what is going on.
You can also use it to keep track of players that are causing this kind of problem.

The star won't show up until you see them, but then you'll know.
It's kind of a pain to have to use the "add notes" on all your teammates before you hook up with them. That's why it's been suggested that the stars get shown in the /search window.

    Yeah. It's bad.

It's farming. You know what farming looks like. If you don't want to be around it, you can leave before it all goes to Hades.

You know what a team looks like going south.

Tag them and leave the team.

When you see that one star hanging over the head of which ever character that they might be playing when you run into them next, you will thank yourself for knowing from the get go what you are dealing with.

Some people have argued that really it takes no skill or time to learn to use powers well. I'm glad that you are on my side that it takes time, practice, and experience not only to learn how to use powers but to learn how to play well enough to be an important part of a team via teamwork.

    Even Wolverine uses teamwork.

My first character Vegaton doesn't like farmers. They kill plants. Vegaton doesn't like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have this mental image of Vegaton standing in a Kansas wheat field carrying a protest sign and chanting, "Bread is murder! . . . Bread is murder! . . . Save the wheat!"

Meanwhile farmer Brown sitting on top of his John Deere thresher looks around to see if there are any witnesses . . . and since it's Kansas there won't be any, he guns it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Earth-1 :: Champion Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher. Vines grow up from the earth and trap the rear axle of the thresher.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble," as it flies off safely into the distance.

    Earth-2 :: Freedom Shard

Vegaton does not have a protest sign. With a wave of it's hand, Vegaton spreads it's seed of confusion on the farmer's face.
The farmer turns toward his house and barn, running the thresher through his worldly possessions, thus, destroying them and his dreams of harvesting the earth for profit.
Vegaton cackles madly and races off high speed toward the next farm...and it's next victim. Vegaton is a villain and he has not constraint against those that desecrates the earth.

    Earth-4 :: Infinity Shard

The farmer comes out of the trance just as a giant walking Venus Fly Trap snaps it's maws around his head.
Vegaton cackles madly and flies off toward the next farm...and it's next victim. Vegaton is a villain and he has not constraint against those that desecrates the earth.

    Earth-5 :: Justice Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher.
Suddenly the farmer is "teleport foe"-ed in front of the spinning thresher blades.
The farmer screams in horror as the massive killer-of-plant-life charges toward him.
Vegaton gestures and teleports itself along side the massive machine. Winding up, Vegaton throws a huge spike-like thorn through the thresher's engine block.
The thresher grinds to a halt, blades still spinning just inches away from the terrified farmer.
"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble."
Instead of "arresting" the farmer. Vegaton takes its time destroying all the agricultural machinery on the farm that it can find.
Once it has completed it's mission, Vegaton teleports off into the sunset.

    Earth-7 :: Pinnacle Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher. The air grows extremely cold.

Raising it's hands above it's head, Vegaton summons a hurricane around itself.
As the thresher approaches Vegaton, the winds of the hurricane knock the thresher flying into the air.
As the farmer lands with icey winds swirling about him, tendrils grow up from the earth and begin to crush the air from his lungs.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble. This is how I "arrest" your kind - farmer scum."

With a wave of it's hand, a huge walking Venus Fly Trap creature grows forth from the ground and shambles toward the helpless, held, freezing, and rather panicky farmer.

    Earth-9 :: Triumph Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) winds up and throws a huge spike-like thorn through the farmers chest pinning him to the seat.
Vegaton side steps the thresher and commences to throw spikes through the tires of the massive mechanical monstrosity.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble. I'll just "arrest" you with that huge spike through your chest."
"I'm one with the plant, foolish one!"

    Earth-11 :: Virtue Shard

Vegaton (only cares a protest sign on Earth Day, so I guess it's Earth Day) turns and reaches out toward the thresher. Vines grow up from the earth and trap the rear axle of the thresher.
"I am Vegaton! I am one with the planet!"
Raising it's hands it summons a storm of ice and hail down upon the farmer. With a flick of it's wrist, the farmer screams in horror as seeds of confusion fill his lungs.

"You should be glad that I'm a hero, terrorizer of the Earth. You would kill me if you could, but I am noble."

Vegaton concentrates into the earth, drawing forth plant life to enshroud the thresher and crush it until it stops moving.

"Really. You think that threatening me in this manner is appropriate, Farmer Brown? It is clear that you would try to kill me because you thought you would have to opportunity to do so without witnesses has proven that you are a vile villain. A dastardly cad. But did Vegaton not know this all along? Vegaton knew. Vegaton hates farmers, but Vegaton will let you live, because Vegaton is a hero."
"You do not belong in this City. I am one with the planet."

And when you play alts you aren't connected to your main. It is an RPG - you can only have fun from the satisfaction that comes from truly knowing and inhabiting your character. You can't possibly have fun having alts - so why have them (I know, I tried it out and hated it)?

    [/ QUOTE ]

All-in-all. That's one of the most trolling posts I've ever seen.
    Honestly.

Why did the DEVs give us so many slots?
    To sit empty?

I see that you claim to have tried to have alts and have failed to enjoy them. You are fixated by your one character and can not understand the joy and freedom that having multiple characters gives to other players.
To start with, I have several characters with the same name on multiple servers. My first character - I guess you would call that my main - is on seven servers with various power sets, but always essentially the same character. So there is a reason to have more than one character; having the same character on multiple servers.
Another reason to have multiple characters is to explore the different power sets of the game. If I get bored with one set or archetype, I always have a character to switch to that is different. I personally like variation. It is the spice of life.
I like to create characters. I guess it has something to do with liking comic books and thinking up superheroes with various powers. Huh, what do you know - this is a game about just that.

Have I played all my characters this year? No probably not. Have I played over half of them maybe not. 1/3 of them? Definitely at least a third of them. Some times I play multiple characters the same day, and, by played, I mean running missions.

I'm a Legion of Super Heroes.

    I'm not a Highlander.

I'm certainly not a farmer. My first character Vegaton doesn't like farmers. They kill plants. Vegaton doesn't like that. On some servers it is a hero, on others it is a villain. It depends on what went on after it was created. Was it rescued by heroes? Was it imprisoned for attacking farmers for harvesting their fields?
Vegaton was created long before I played CoX.
    Vegaton doesn't like farmers.

Do you really want Vegaton to be the only character I play?
  20. A friend of mine had a good idea for this, I told them to post it, but they may not have.

Their suggestion was changing "Kill All" to "Kill Most".
Making this 90% should clear up most of the issues that happen with that one lost mob or single enemy on a map.
  21. The Logitech's Dual-action game pad has the same basic configuration as a PS2 controller

    I put :
    Left stick :: forward-backward/strafe left-right
    Right stick :: fly/down/turn left/right
Right pad button left :: main tray slot 1 (primary attack - fast recharge)
Right pad button top :: main tray slot 2 (secondary attack - next fastest recharge)
Right pad button right :: main tray slot 3 (3rd attack)
Right pad button bottom :: main tray slot 4 (a "OH! $&#$" power of some sort, AoE Heals, or a tray flip (/macro Prev "prev_tray" or /macro next "next_tray" - these allow you to flip the active tray - so by using this I have access to two trays that I lay out in the same manner.)
Left upper shoulder button :: next target
Left lower shoulder button :: main tray slot 5 (directed heal, AoE/cone, or /macro flw "follow" for melee characters)
Right upper shoulder button :: nearest target
Right lower shoulder button :: main tray slot 6 ( AoE/cone)
left pad moved left :: main tray slot 7 (snipe or some sort of ranged attack for use to pull for melee characters)
left pad moved right :: main tray slot 8 (/macro Heal "inspexec_name respite")
Left stick button :: main tray slot 9 - main travel power
Right stick button :: main tray slot 0- secondary travel power (or utility)

So using the tray flips and repeating the sticks and left d-pad right to keep my travel powers and insp heal in the same spots in the tray. that gives me tray slots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 to use for different powers in two trays or an access to a total of 12 power + 2 travel powers = 14. Or if I use tray slot 0 as a different utility power on each tray - a total of 15 powers.

    Macro listing

    /macro Heal "inspexec_name respite"
    /macro flw "follow"
    /macro Prev "prev_tray"
    /macro Next "next_tray"

Parodies and derivative works are not allowed.

Or is this a posting promoting an event/mission that is clearly in violation of the above rule?

    I'm confused.
  23. I agree that the other members of the team should be able to see the Mission briefing and send-off text.

It his how to facilitate this that is the question.

I think you can get some of the info by clicking on the little info/red-explosion button next to the mission name on the nav window, but a lot of players don't know that it even does anything.

    Villain Empaths?

    [ QUOTE ]
Wasn't Pain Domination made because Empathy didn't fit the villain "theme"? With the new expansion it looks like villain empaths will become a reality. Now again, what was the reason villains didn't get empathy ported over?

Yeah. The empathy effect-color will be converted from green to a shade of gray and Pain Domination effect-color will be converted from red to a shade of gray as well. That way they won't really clash color-contrast-wise (I have fortunately never run into someone with Pain Domination and Empathy both on the same team and both auto-firing their AoE heals, but you get the idea.)

You know it's very Heroic to use "Pain Domination" on your allies, at least if they are paying you inf and want it used on them intentionally.

  25. I looked at the links. I'll add this ::

The Pre-release CoV box set was released with two Arachnos helmets - 1 male and 1 female, but I think that there were actually four total and they were divided up by region or something. Also the pre-release CoV also had a Hero-Clics figure. It looks like they combined the whole set of what was available via the CoV pre-release in the CoV collector's edition box. It also came with pre-release beta access for CoV.

I think that they gave a way a PPD Hardsuit Costume at Pax-Con (or some such).

I can't remember what in-game stuff they got at Hero-Con other than beta-access.

As far as "must haves" for these boosters, etc., I would say that the Good versus Evil is the first one to go for. It includes the jump pack and the Pocket D Teleporter. I get more use out of those two then any of the other "extra" "booster" powers. It also comes with the Justice costume set.

You can't beat limited-fly at level 1. I don't know how many times that Jump Pack has gotten me out of trouble. You can fly up to the roof of City Hall in Atlas, get the badge there, and still have enough juice to fly to the top of the globe for that badge with one "use" of the jump pack -- if you time it right.

Being able to teleport on the Pocket D on the whim gives you quick access to Talos, Kings Row, and Founders Falls. (yeah, well if you are a villain...then Port Oakes, Sharkshead, and Saint Martial. )
