  1. It really isn't that hard to find a name.
It usually takes me less than 3 times.
I haven't made a character for about 2 months now, but often times I have tried a name that I was sure would have been taken and I get them.

If the character is unique to you, find out what makes them unique and start from there. The basic concept should give some good options. A color related to your costume is a good adjective to add before the name. For personal names, add a middle initial or suffix. There is also the tactic of not placing spaces between two or more words :: "LikeThis".

I suggest avoiding the "clan" coding stuff like "vVNameVv". It really doesn't have a place in this game. There was a time when that was great to show that a character was part of a certain group, but we have an option to display a characters SG above their name. It really isn't supposed to be part of their name.

If you are on Virtue or Freedom, possibly the way to get the names you want is to try on other servers. There are probably more characters on the lists for Virtue and Freedom than an of the other servers - the names are taken individually per server, so it may very well be that some of the names you were trying were/are available on other servers.

Honestly, people can play and get teams on other servers. I know, I game on all of them.

    -------

I jumped into check out this thread because I thought it was about the really bad names that are showing up in the game.

I think that Age of Conan has the right idea about restricting names to "names".

A good example of what I'm talking about is a character that I ran into last night called "LFT".
Now I guess to some that is kind of funny, but I think it is pretty pathetic.

    "Look! Up in the sky!"
    "Is it a bird?"
    "A plane?"
    "No! It's LFT!"

    Yeah, right....

Out of curiosity, why couldn't a witch use a rocket launcher? She's got two hands. Heck even Buff the Vampire Slayer used a rocket launcher.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think the OP's point was that the character was "magic" and not "tech".

Of course, a witch could use a rocket launcher. I guess and example may have been better if a "tech" character took an epic pool to cast "magic" spells.

Back to the OP's question ::
I would hope that a character conception player would try to make their powers fit throughout their existence.
Maybe it was a 2nd build?
  3. Uh, I think there really are ninja dojo....considering that ninja are real.
  4. There are "normal" teams out there.
If you can't find one; start one.
If you are on Freedom or Virtue, contemplate making new characters on other servers. There is far less "farming" issues on other servers.

I play on all the servers. I don't farm.
  5. Let's remove Purples and IO sets -in general - from the game.
  6. I'll agree with the others.
This is to be addressed elsewhere.
Your server or not (I have 13 characters on Champion); it has to do with the whole game and not one server.
My stance is the same on any server I'm on.
The farmers have gone from being some-what annoying to a major problem.

    Just Saying Hi !

Greetings, and welcome to the City!
    Good luck out there.

Don't forget you can access the [Help] channel by typing

    /hc [message]

The [Help] channel is for getting in-game help from other players.
  8. They are much better than the pre-existing enhances.
The won't "make or break you" but they will make you more powerful than someone without them - in general.

That beings said, sets "set" you up with certain bonuses. Using non-set IO's allow you to set up each power more freely.

IO's never expire, so I think they are always a good bet.
  9. I started a thread a while back about "good ideas being lost in the shuffle of the forums".

I think the game is great as it is.
I think the game needs a lot of improvements.
I think the game has been better at times - I blame the current problem on abuse and exploiters.
I think the game has taken a great direction in incorporating player content into the game - I just wish everyone understood it was for "story" content and not "easy rewards fast".

I feel like I put a lot into the game. The game gives me a lot in return.
Right now it is different experience than what I has been during the time previous to the release of the MA. Part of that is due to creating MA content. Part of the reason is being aggravated by the exploiters and cheaters. Part of it is due to the out-of-sync bug finally getting fixed (hurrah!)

I'm hoping that the changes to the MA are sufficient to correct the game's direction.

    New Team Search

I rate all farmer with 1 star. I also put them on ignore.
  11. The_Alt_oholic

    New Team Search

uh, there is a rating system. You can click on a name and it says "Add Note". At the top you can select how many stars to give them and make notes.
There is an option in the options menu to display these stars over the heads of characters that you have rated.
  12. The_Alt_oholic

    New Team Search

I'd be happy if they showed the stars ratings in the search window. That would be more helpful than my ignore list as that thing gets flushed all the time. Besides, since I always send tells before invites, I won't ever get a reply tell from someone I have on ignore to join a team.

Honestly, I have only ended up on a team with someone that I had 1 starred once. I warned the leader about the problem that I had had with that player. They warned the player about the issue not long into the mission when they repeated the behavior I had made notes on. I'm pretty sure that the one-starred player ended up leaving the team not long afterward for one reason or another (may have been kicked).

But I would still like to be able to see the star ratings that I have given players when I'm trying to recruit for a team.

    Does AE need XP?

Though I'm against farming and power-leveling in the AE, I think that XP does have it's place in the AE.

I am at a bit of a loss how one would gain salvage from fallen foes (in fact different ones that the ones that you are fighting) simply because you earned "tickets" in a "virtual" game. (this is all kind of nutty anyway as it is a virtual game inside of a virtual game.) The ticket system makes far less sense to me that xp in the MA/AE does. If it was just for unlocking gear for the MA it would make more sense. What do do with the extra tiickets? Use them to rent billboard space to promote your arc in the City? Use them to have NPCs talk about how cool your arc is? Use them to pay to play "DEV's Choice" and "Hall of Fame" arcs (If they are really that good, wouldn't they be worth 10 tickets to play?)? etc.

If there wasn't XP in the AE, a majority of players would never use it.

How many players use the Ouroboros or exemplar/malfactor?
I rarely exemplar or malfactor and the only reason I use Ouroboros is quick transit and easy to reach insp store at level 25+. I don't care for the flashback system at all, but that is probably because I'm an alt-oholic and not a solo character player.
By the very nature of this game, it is a game about alts.

I understand your rational that you shouldn't be getting "real" training in a "virtual world", but we have to look at the fact that "virtual training" is being used to prepare some people for some very hazardous and/or combat related jobs, so there is some "merit" to training in a "virtual" environment.
One of them is that you "can't be killed", so maybe what need to happen is that there should be "no debt" related to "falling" in the MA/AE.
Replace it with a "three life" system and add a "bonus life" for each mission completed. Run out of "lives" in an ae mission and you "lose" the arc and have to start all over again. Beef this system up even more by not rewarding any tickets until the arc is complete and you have something...but only if you get rid of one and two mission arcs.

...bah...I'm in ranting typing mood...I need to go play before I fall over.....
  14. Let's face it.
Freedom and Virtue tend to get locked with max population during Double XP weekend.

Don't get caught unable to play a character because you only have Alts on Freedom and/or Virtue.

Make an Alt or two on other servers now .... possibly even create an alter-Earth version of your Supergroup(s) on another server so your sg can be ready to function elsewhere as well.

Remember Earth-2 and Earth-11 aren't the only two inhabited dimensions in CoX.
  15. I have the feeling that there will be a "disable other players custom power colors" in the options.

Obviously this kind of thing would be a real pain on dial-up players (yeah, there are still people that play this game on dial-up connections) so they would have to put in this kind of option so that the players with low-band width could still play (yes, they have already added other options like this to help out the players with lower bandwidth).

"disable other players custom power colors" would also still allow you to change your custom colors for your own viewing. I'm assuming that this would mean that there would also be a "disable send custom power colors" option in the menu for the same reason.

As far as "removing" buffs. I'm not really for that, though I have read arguments before in regards to players that don't want to be sb'd, etc.
I understand it is a hassle sometimes, but the buffs are there to be beneficial to the team.
  16. [ QUOTE ]

There is absolutely no reason to start your lowbie in Atlas unless you're a Peacebringer, it boggles my mind that everyone does it and then complains.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry. I thought the fact that it was a low level zone - one of two that you have the option of picking on the hero side - wasn't a reason to pick it.
As I recall, it is the first option.

At any rate, how would a new player know not to go to Atlas?

Yes, players spend more time from level 40-50 (some people only play their level 50's). I just think that they should be running missions in any of the low level zones - especially in the MA.

It is clear that you don't care about the other players.
    I do.
  17. Zowie!
Now that's some serious release notage!

    You are quite right.
The thread is primarily about exploiting the game.
    The thread shouldn't exist.
  19. Lusca could definitely move around. Other GM's can.
Of course, getting too close to shore might make Lusca attack the enemies along the shore, but I'm okay if Lusca doesn't attack them.

I like the Propel idea for Lusca throwing boats, etc. I really like that idea.

I think it is about time for Lusca to show up in Talos!
  20. Welcome to the game.

Remember you can get help from other players in game by using the [Help] channel by typing ::

Oh, btw, I checked out that Wiki link.
I had always heard that Champion was the unofficial server of "Champions the RPG" players -- but I could see how saying that might cause "confusion in the market place" at this point....

Also the servers are listed in the following order ::
Top - the one you were on last.
    2nd to top - Lowest currentpopulation/server capacity.
bottom - highest current population/server capacity.

So you will see the 2nd through last slots change around as current (characters logged) population changes.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I personally cannot stand when I let my teammates die in battle.
I play my Tank to protect others, and if I can't do that then I fail. I'm a Tank, it's increadibly easy for me to survive most things in this game without help...my challenge is keeping the team alive.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is my goal as well. (I don't like seeing teammates fall no matter what my archetype.)
My tanks are to take control of as much agro as possible so that the rest of the team can devastate the enemy.
I think I've made it clear before that Taunt is critical for any Tank that is trying to achieve this goal.
  22. I don't see it listed yet, but was anyone in the jail?
As far as I know, you can't complete the mission if any member of your team is in jail.
If they are, you have to bust them out.

do you feel like a bad [censored] because you let everyone know who you've put on ignore?

I sorta read his comment as "there goes another thread into Derail-ville."

And to all the readers of this thread, I hereby apologize for derailment.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is yet other thread that wants to take up the Flag of "farming is a legitimate play-style".
The players that follow this banner fail to understand that what they want to be "legitimate" isn't.

The DEVs don't want farmers in the game. The DEVs feel that farming is reduces the longevity of the game. The DEVs made it clear that they didn't want anyone using the AE as a farming tool and that players would be punished for doing so. The DEVs dropped the 10-ton hammer on some of those farming the AE.

Farmers cried that they were being treated unfairly. Farmers cried that they should be able to do what they want to do if they pay to play the game. Farmers still want players to think that farming is the way to play the game. Farmers try to make it appear that farming is the only way to get the things that you need in-game that you need to be able to play the game. Farmers distract players from actually playing the game.

The act of farming cause a imbalance in the game that causes others to want to farm in order to be as uber (, l337, or whatever lingo you want to use) as the other people exploiting the system. Farming feeds on itself. It is a blight of greed that self perpetuates.

Farmers lead others into the "easy way" of farming that takes them away from actually playing the game.

There is no place for farmers in the City of Heroes (either side).

It is against the EULA to promote or support an exploit.
Why would the DEVs have anything to do with "supporting and promoting farming"?
Burn down the farms and drive the farmers from the City.

And, yeah, I'm proud that I can stand up for what I believe in and take steps of my own to keep farmers out of my gaming experience involved with CoX. It has made me a target for harassment and still I stand my ground for what I believe in.

Others can help in the fight against farmers too by reporting farms in the AE, 1 staring farmers using Add Notes, turn on the option so that you can see stars over players, don't game with farmers, and put farmers on ignore in the forums and in the game.

Farmers have no place in the lower level zones - at all - ever. This worse and most recent act of blatant exploiting and bemoaning of rights to abuse the game have brought me to this final and intolerant stand against all farmers.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
There's a large difficulty spike near the end. It's definitely impossible to solo past level 55.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    I give.

The last level you can solo at is level 50.

Once you reach level 51, you have achieved a state of game play that is above what mortals can comprehend. At level, you will understand what the true meaning of the game is and the whole point of soloing become moot.
