I think it's just a generic city location, not an actual zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree it's nowhere found ingame. However it does look like there's atlas' statue on the right hand side
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see Atlas at all in that.
My immediate answer was Steel Canyon, purely from the density of high rise structures. If and when there is a major graphics overhaul. That is what I'd expect Steel Canyon to look like.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's right there!
ok, you can only realy see a globe, but I haven't seen a globe anywhere other than on Atlas' shoulders
[/ QUOTE ]
Maybe its petronia or whatever tyrants city is called -

This happened about two weeks ago. We had 50 lvl SSTF team. We played about 3 mission when one player suddenly said "it was fun, bye..." Everybody was likewhat? Probably that player missed the whole idea of playing taskforce. Example of worst thing of AE magick.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really a good example that player could easily had a million good reasons for going in a hurry. As all must remember, its only a game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Its only a game but doing a TF represents a commitment of time and you should be willing to see it thrue till the end before you sign up to one.
Now of course there could be a million reasons why you could suddenly have to log during a TF and I'm sure 99% of teams will be perfectly understanding if you send a quick tell along the lines of "Sorry got to go" mum/dad/significant other etc etc needs my help or I need to go run to the shops etc -

lower level grind = faster epics
if they want to block farming, i suggest they do something about how slow leveling go's.
[/ QUOTE ]
Levelling has never been faster then now. It should be impossible for even a hardcore player without a job or school to get a 50 in a month!
[/ QUOTE ]
i have a full jub and am a casual player, what you say is that a casual player may only have a lvl 50 after 2 YEARS.
if you like to see a game with the right XP rate and req, look at GW.
while in comparison the XP rate is higher in COX then in GW, GW has a way better XP req.
i'm already testing this, and i have seen the 2 main reasons why lvling is so slow.
the missions give a way to low reward then it's worth, and the req to go to the next level is way to high.
if they dim this, then they lower both the grind and the boring side of this game, and there is 70%more boring parts then fun parts.
[/ QUOTE ]
I find my self asking why do you still sub to CoH you don't seem to like it all that much and if your don't have the time to play it then why bother?
As to the more specific slow leveling you must be doing something very very wrong while yes it can take 2 years or more to get a character to 50 (my current longest being 4 years 3 months and only level 33) its all to do with style of play and commitment i alt a lot hence why i have several characters that are older than a year and still haven't hit 50 but that's down to my play stile when i concentrate on a single character i can easily take them up several levels in a a week my claws/elec stalker went from 35 to 49 in the space of a couple of weeks with no farming of any kind all i did was play missions some times solo some times teamed if i could get on a ITF id take it. when i was solo i would make sure i ran complete mission arc for the mission arc bonus i would also do this with teams if they had no objections. in the end it was all fast leveling and easy XP you just have to commit to the character.
[/ QUOTE ]
This isn't about CoH, it's about CoX (both of them) Personally i despise hero side, but i have a lvl 50 warshade and ilu/kin controller.
And he never said he didn't like the game
[/ QUOTE ]
I was using CoH as a catch all term if you read my post you'll notice i mention how i leveled quickly with my stalker
No he never out right said he didn't like it but this wouldn't be the first time that he's posted giving the impression that he doesn't like it so i was simply asking if its that bad why play it? seems a valid question to me why do something you don't like doing? of course if there is something about CoH (general term) that he likes and it keeps him playing then why is he not doing that instead of trying to get a entire way XP is rewarded changed?
and just to be clear i was making no comment on the subject of farming this was purely a post based on a observation. -
yea you can when you purchase the pack threw the NC store it'll come up with some option once the purchase go's threw you'll be able to either apply the packs serial code to a existing CoH account or create a new account you just pick the apply to existing CoH account option.

You can psionically confused a Mechman because he has an artificial intelligence. Your psionic attacks are less effective on him because your powers are tuned to work on human minds, but he does have an intelligence that you can affect psychically. You can read his mind. It's unlikely unless you were an expert in AI that you would understand what you are hearing, but you could still read his mind.

And there we have a perfect example of power fudging which is all thats required to justify how a charichter that has this Anti-Power set manges to depower a natural or tech oragin -
yes but it comes down to do you believe demitri if you follow his logic there is no such thing as a mutant origin instead each and every mutant is a hole new species (which dose infant make more sense than the marvel X gene logic but never mind that) so if demetri is correct then so is Sister Psyche as Psionics would be a new species as would any other ability that arises that ability could then be passed down from generation to generation so its entirely possible that every Psionic user out there could trace there ancestry back to a single individual.
But the mutant debate asside there's still powered individuals and groups before the opening of the box from the time line
there was plenty of magic on the go as well as i mentioned earlier Giovanna Scaldi was using magic to expand her powers, the banished pantheon were active 1861 - 1864, the Cult of the Shaper were also active
What changed with the opening of the well and the coming of statesman was the number of what we would view as super heroes increased until that point super powered individuals if they were active worked as part of larger organisations such as the church but states served as a inspiration to would be heroes to rise up and fight wrongs.
Any ways shoving all that to the side i like the OPs idea sounds interesting and who cares about would it wouldn't it work on natural technological origins that question doesn't seem to bother people when there psionically confusing a mechman. -

On the copyright issue, in American law I believe there is a rule that states if you don't go out to protect your IP you can lose it. Which is why Marvel took NCSoft to courts they had to otherwise NCSoft could just turn round and steal the IP.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not just NC soft if marvel failed to defend there copyright then it open the door for any one to steel it. Tho i don't think they necessarily have to win the case as long as the defend it there original copy right still stands. As soon as a company stop actively protecting there copy rights its pretty much up for grabs. -
The well of furies/Pandora's box is not the source of all super powers in the CoH universe I'm not sure where you get that idea from but your just plain wrong. the opening of the box served as a catalyst for many of the super individuals as well as spurring on some technologically and scientific advances but its not the only source of power. the power of the Mu dates back much further than the box as dose the powers used by the circle of thorns and the Corlax. The original founder of the carnival was a 17th century (sure it was 17th) mutant and magic user and she fought another super powered individual sent by the church who may have been blessed by god or may have been a mutant.
The box is just a excuse that can be used to justify the sudden up surge in super powered individuals aka us the players. -
not all the powers in game are related to the opening of pandora's box its opening is more a of a reason to explain why there are so many powered individuals in the world.
individuals like nemesis and lady grey would be 2 examples of non box related powered individuals. -
Don't you dare touch that fog i like the fog

Firey Assault/Icy Assault. Hello Fire/Ice blasts, hello fire/ice swords.
If you could pick free powers? People would use it to game break, some would gimp themselves too, but... look at it this way:
No one but a /Dev Blaster can use Cloaking Device. Doesn't make much sense. I'd love to use my 24 power picks to make someone with a few martial arts movies, a couple of the Arachnos Soldier gun attacks, cloaking device, combat jumping, quickness, hurdle, y'know, create a high-kicking, gun toting special forces type.
It'll never happen in this game, a total customization system will never work because people will always game-break/gimp themselves and then the devs will have to step in because some complained and then others complain that the devs stepped in and it all goes pete tong.
[/ QUOTE ]
never say never tho it is very unlikely.
As to the gimping/game-brake that's always going to happen just look at CoH even with the supposedly well balanced AT system and power sets there are sets and ATs that rise above the others at the same time there are those that go out of there way to seemingly gimp them selves all in the name of character theme. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Further each set would work more like the epic/patron/pool powers in that you would need to unlock the next power in the set by having a previous one so you could roll up a duel blades/broad sword/assault rifle/willpower scrapper but you mite only have 2 powers from each set.
[/ QUOTE ]
Interesting!, So more like a wide-ranging branching tree with crossover points that enabled other powers from other sets as long as you took a pre-requisite tier power that they both had in-common.?
More diversity = less specialisation tradeoff?
[/ QUOTE ]
pretty much as i said it would take a hell of a lot of balancing and a hell of a load of work to implement. -
[ QUOTE ]
Super Strength/Shield or Super Strength/Willpower Scrapper anyone?
It could get rather messy.
[/ QUOTE ]
What more messy than the SS/Shield and SS/will brutes that are on the loose at the moment?
I believe the original CoH was very much a open framework you picked your powers as you wanted them with no AT or power set restrictions (there was also more sets) but at some point it was decided in the devs (and reportedly one in particular) infinite wisdom to implement the current system.
would it brake the game?
No i don't think so there would need to be a lot of balancing added and few limitations.
The thing I've often thought of is keep the ATs, these would give you your base line stats HP ext and would also come packaged with a number of inherent abilities that would be used to rain in the more extreme combinations.
So you could pick stone armour/earth control as power sets but depending on your AT they would function differently as a controller your armour values would cap out much lower but you would have superior control while as a tank your armour values would be high but your control ability would be low.
Further each set would work more like the epic/patron/pool powers in that you would need to unlock the next power in the set by having a previous one so you could roll up a duel blades/broad sword/assault rifle/willpower scrapper but you mite only have 2 powers from each set. -
Was that not just in the early "leeked" emails?
-
i bet i know where you've seen it and i bet it had a freind
-
yes if it was ramped up to ridiculus proportions but i don't think i ever suggested that.
Pluss there is a fair bit more content in the 30+ area of teh game now than there was when in the past. -
[ QUOTE ]
Back OT:
The argument that new players won't know how to use tactics in combat is bunkum. You don't suddenly learn how to "pull" on reaching L20 with your first toon. I've seen L50s continually fail at pulling because they don't know how to break line-of-sight.
It may take a little time to perfect but using your brain is an L1 power
[/ QUOTE ]
i never said players would suddenly learn anything what i said was that debt gave death meaning.
While the learning curve in CoH was pretty far from steep there was thing that to learn that served you well in the later game these things are being eroded by the Dev's seeming constant need to make things easier.
I see the deduction in debt as pretty much chief amongst these erosion without debt death has no meaning. death is now just a cool way to get a huge buff via things like mutation or to get the team a big boost via the likes of vengeance.
you mention pulling whats the point when you can just keep charging in like a lemming? -
Its a bit like a cross between Ulterior, the chiten armour plates, and the EX-proto parts
I wonder if it could be part of a upcoming vet reward. -
hmm cant say i recognise it at all looks interesting tho did you take a note of its name?
