It's a never-ending cycle. The devs do add new content, for 50s and for other levels as well.
So, I guess we should just stop adding content? I think you missed the main idea here. New content that is different and allows the player to put more of their creations in game. Also, many do spew negatives about new content but you have to look at the content - this game, far too often, adds the same old same old. There's enough of that. Let's add new stuff only and give us many options

Nice of you to poo poo my ideas without offering any suggestions I really don't see the point of your post. No offence but why not try working with/adding ideas instead
  2. Well, something for the level 50s to do? Here are a few ideas.

    1) How about, at 50, supers get enlisted into a new service where they deal with high end threats/missions etc. Being a member of this squad allows you access to lvl 50 only arcs. Each arc would involve a new signature super (not another version of the current ones). All new signature supers that we have to deal with. These arcs could slowly be added by the DEVS and perhaps DEVS could include arcs from AE in here and make them canon (they were mentioning this before). Oh, these should include all new maps

Another good way to intro new signature supers would be to have each one run through P.I. or Grandville - using the same element as the rikti invasion. However, it would be just one AV or Hero (suped up a bit in the open environment maybe) to deal with. These open world 'invasions' would only happen to intro the new super and could reward a badge. Once that person has been intro.ed then maybe move to a different one. I figure doing this 'invasion' style intro is easier than a new arc.

    2) Since we have a ton of repetitive content, please make all new content a bit more interesting and not so intentionally time consuming. We have a ton to do so any future material needs to be new.

    3) Our own Nemesis system ('borrowed' from Champions, to a degree). Have a zone, or front, that is not as well gaurded and where only 40+ can travel to. That zone should only be occupied by some new minions and AVs/Heroes created by the players. Every time we hit 40, we have the option of making our arch-enemy. This enemy can exist continuously in this unprotected/open zone. Extra rewards for going in and dealing with him/her/it! Perhaps, if your toon reaches level 50 then this arch-enemy gets powerful enough to hit the regular environment and it would be an open mission - to beat the random enemy in the zone. It would beat the constant zombies and rikti invasions - I like both of these but in moderation. Between the new area/zone and having your enemy 'invading', each of us may see our counterpart every now and then!

Also, perhaps the DEVS would allow us to create a Giant Monster in addition to our arch-enemy. One GM per account when any toon dings 50 - like an unlock. The GM could be in the new area and outdoor environments. This GM would also plague heroes, vills and Praetoria zones (outdoor).

    4) Perhaps, at lvl 50, give us the ability/option to buy weapons. No more than maybe 2 at a time and allow us to slot them. These weapons should be in a 2nd section on our build. Each weapon is one slot and can max out at 3 slots. We can easily obtain them, delete the weapon and get a new one or just replace them with a different weapon. Slots obtained via XP - no need to level but just get XP.

    5) Level 50 - 1 extra divine power. An arc where, if you complete it, have the opportunity to get 1 new divine/super power. 6 slottable and those are, again, gained via XP. Perhaps a NEW power for each AT (examples of new powers: missile launcher from shoulder, gattling gun on shoulder, power staff etc.).

    6) NO MORE re-hash of existing content. There is enough of that. Let's keep everything else here on in fresh and new!

Anyway, I think the more you involve the player, the more fun. So, I would love to see more player stuff (arch-enemies) etc. Architect Entertainment is an awesome tool but there is too much junk in there; too many farms. This would be another cool way to get more player involvement.
  3. I am not sure but I think the DEVS might be figuring out how to make things a bit more exciting. I really hope they have learned giving us the same content and slightly changing it is killing this game.
  4. Very unexpected and very appreciated. Happy Holidays.

Completely agree. I think all hazard zones should be co-op. It'd be nice. I am sure the zones like the Hollows etc would get some new energy and interest.

    1. Because it is impossible for any dev to keep up with the players voracious appetite for new content.

    2. Because this isn't fantasyland or Sci-Fi land where we can wave a wand or tell the holodeck computer that we never want to repeat anything. No MMO has an infinite number of maps, opponents, and objectives.

Which is why all successful games add new issues/expansions

Welcome to the computer gaming industry. All game graphics are repetitive and redundant. See above for why.

Yeah cuz it would be so much more "fun" to have to scour 40 frickin floors of an office building looking for a handful of opponents or a single glowie, and what if the devs put bad guys on every floor? Nothing would attract players faster than having to clear every floor of an entire skyscraper during a "kill all" mission. The average mission would only take several hours to finish and a TF several days.

Yeah let's have maps that are accurate to the buildings floorplan.

Yup, the facts as you see them LOL. Again, disagree with your opinion

It would be nice if some of your replies were actually useful or added to the discussion.

    1) Hate to break it to you but CoX is noted as one of the more repetitive MMOs out there. Many reviewers and comments also support this on various sites (namely massively. com and mmorpg.com plus others). Not a big deal...I'm still here and hope to see these concerns addressed. So, when you state the obvious (impossible for DEVS to keep up etc., I think we are all aware of this fact) it doesn't really help. We have a lot of stuff to do so they don't need to add anything that is so repetitive. All of the new stuff could be a bit more unique. This game does not lack content.

    2) You comment here about how no MMO can have infinite numbers of maps etc. I think this is more than obvious and I am so glad you used it as your retort. Speaks volumes. Again, I wonder what sane person would expect it all to be unique. All I ask is for a bit more unique looks (maps as an example). Honestly.

When I note architecture, I don't recall asking for scaling 40 stories etc. Do you even play this game? Are you telling me the interior designs of the buildings would exist in an actual building ...really? I thought people would figure out my comment but you obviously did not. The offices are pretty odd...walls in odd spots, odd staircases, buildings at angles etc. Not a big deal, really. So, yeah, let's have floor plans that are a bit more realistic. If you think I am suggesting we do 40 story kill alls well...I won't say it

There is no reason why they have to stick with the city for missions. They went outside of the city many times so that's not an issue. They have zones that don't involve Paragon or the Rogues Isles. There is enough city and it would be cool to see a new look

Anyway, I enjoy reading your replies and how you make assumptions so you can make even more outlandish replies. It seems to me you are one that is looking to argue without the ability to debate or make rational arguments. Kinda makes me scratch my head but it's also pretty funny

    Again, I think you're 110% wrong. Couldn't disagree more.

Even if a lot of MMOs are doing the same old why should CoX? It's not too late to add some unique angles.

Oh, and the graphics are very repetitive in CoX - that's the main thing that makes this game look repetitive and redundant. Same few varied mission maps; the various villain groups are used over and over and over; a lot of the bosses in a mish look just like the mobs/minions and the look is tired.

GR might make the game seem shiny but blueside will have the same design - tired old building with a lot of really bad 'architecture'. Who designs some of these buildings??? lol

Anyway, we don't know all of GR so here's hoping it really makes the game fresh again!!!

I don't know what game you've been playing, but I've seen 16 issues of innovation added to the game over the past five years which has kept the game fresh and exciting.
Yeah, hi, I'm playing CoX..that is why I am posting on their boards. That might be hard for you to figure out so I'll help ya out there.

Yep, 16 issues. I got on board just after i11. It was a very long wait to i12 which was a light issue but very cool. I13 really didn't add to the game - QoL, power set, PvP issues, day jobs (day jobs...lol...weak!). I14 was a cool innovation but very poorly implemented into the game. I15 - not a real issue. I16 - good add but nothing new for us to do.

This game is a lot of fun and has a decent system. We do have a lot of things to do but unfortunately a lot of that is quantity and NOT quality. The same mission over and over with a few tweeks to it is not my idea of fun or innovation. Hopefully they stop doing that
  9. I think there is a decrease in numbers but there was one last year at Sept. as well for a while. Who knows if they'll be back. This is my only MMO and would like to see it do well. However, it is a dated game and there hasn't been a ton of innovation or new things to keep the game exciting. Hopefully GR is good enough to bring back a lot of people. Either way, I am here until GR at least.

No, I cannot find the numbers as they have not been put out - or they're not at the same place they used to be. Anyone trying to tell me the numbers are as high as just before Summer is...well...I won't say Anyway, it is my opinion the numbers are quite. I play almost daily and see smaller pops on Virtue - by looking at the numbers in-game and the server loads. I am sure many will dispute this but I am pretty sure I am right. It's too bad as this is the only game I play. I think the lack of new things to do and new games is killing us...
  11. Well, I have all the extras so far but I am not going to get anything extra until I see what GR has to offer. I am concerned over the lower population in the game and may have to look for another game if the trend continues. I also find it disturbing NC Soft hasn't published its sub numbers last quarter. Sad but true...

    I'm not worried.
I don't know if there would be too many tickets they would need to reply to. In my 2 years I have never seen this game with so few players. It's sad. This is the only MMO I play right now and I understand why people leave - hopefully they come back soon!
  13. I have noted many hopes for GR and will add a small one here. New loading screens - especially the heroes one when you first load the game. That looks old, tired and many of the heroes don't look the same as on that screen or are very 'basic' looking. There are some great costumes out there. Update the screens
  14. It would be nice to have Lord Winter look 'unique' and not like the WLs. I hope the DEVS realize there are far too many missions/characters where the main boss looks just like the minions and that is a shame. I really hope ALL future content is of a higher standard - I hope it begins with the new Winter Event.
  15. This is a solid pack. I waited to see the pieces but this turned out to be ok. I still don't get why they don't have a belt in a set?

It is a bit skimpy on pieces but I am ok getting this one. I had to say no to the science pack. That was an absolute rip.
  16. Adding new things to do with new mission maps sounds like a priority. Maybe some open missions? Multiple choice options on missions where your decision will vary the actual course of the mission? That sort of thing would be nice.

Devs, it is no longer the 'old days'. We do not have the player base we had 3-4 years ago, when we could see plenty of that base on at roughly the same time. We no longer have plenty of players who willingly pile on to an event at the drop of a hat.

One thing that Ultimo pointed out rings true, that spawning the event in too many zones at the same time can only be detrimental to the enjoyment of said event. (And yes, I knoticed this even before the patch to increase the spawn rate.)

I was in Mercy Island for about two hours this morning. The team I was on broke up just as the banner event started. I asked the level 45 toon if he was going to be forming a team, to which he replied that he was just going to chill and hang with his friend. (I could only see the three of us at the time.) Then about an hour later, the zombie event started up, and there was no call-out in the broadcast channel of a zombie team forming, let along call-outs to join teams.

Not to say that it doesn't ever happen. I was online Saturday night with one toon, and got all the zombie and banner event badges within about 40 minutes. However, this happened blueside.

Maybe with Going Rouge we'll see a meaningful uptick, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Yes, the new graphics engine will be a plus, but if all former players (some of whom are now over at "That other superhero MMO") hear is how poor things are now, do you really think that will make any difference.

I have to somewhat agree. This event isn't exciting or that fun to begin with and then add the lower pop...not too fun.

I am hoping we get some players back but there is a lot of cool new stuff out. I was hoping CO would be good but I already ditched that game and came back here. Took minutes for me to remember why I am looking for something else Ah well. Not sure GR will solve the 'same old same old' syndrome of CoX.
  18. Have to agree with OP. This event is tired and the new aspect doesn't seem to be fun. I wish it was. The lag has been there for some of the banner attacks but ok at other times.

All in all I did the event for an hour plus some other ToT. I was done and haven't played any of the game since. I think I am on my last legs here but I want to stay...it's just not that fun anymore. I'm holding on to see if ROGUE helps at all.
  19. Took another short break from here and I am glad to see a new aspect to the event. Unfortunately, the event isn't that fun as it stands (most of my reasons are similar to the ones already posted and it looks like the DEVS are making some adjustments). Also, the constant zombie invasions that go on all year really ruin the novelty of this event and it just isn't highly anticipated (by me, anyway).

This game just looks dull now after playing some of the new stuff. I still prefer CoX due to lack of content in CO (not to mention the polish it needs) but who knows what CO will do. Right now I am back to CoX and here until I find out what GOING ROGUE is about. It will have to be significant for me to stay.

I still sometimes play WoW, on a server that is routinely listed as High population. I rarely see any players outside the cities. I *know* they're in there somewhere, just not in the areas I can access. I'll have to assume they're all in instanced dungeons, or in an area where I can't go, or rarely visit. Like Northrend.)

Fact: By I 16, the AE had resulted in a large number of players being visibly concentrated in a very small number of zones. With the changes made in I 16, those players no longer had any reason to be there. The changes to AE make it counterproductive to run MA missions at all if your only goal is XP per minute, since all but the most challenging enemy groups yield somewhat less XP than their standard game equivalents.
Assumption: Some of them almost certainly quit once their "Easy" button was revoked.
Assumption: The remainder (whatever percentage that may be) have split up and gone to other zones, since that is the only way to find content in their level range that yields "excellent" XP per minute.

Fact: The changes to the difficulty system allow the Fire/Kins and other uber-builds to go quietly run massive farms for hours, with no need for other players at all.
Assumption: Some of the farm leaders have probably switched to this mode, and have effectively removed themselves from normal gameplay. They're still in the game, but they have no reason to come out unless they need to vendor/market all their loot.
Assumption: Some of them probably still include friends or other players in their farms for various reasons. (I've been invited along by a farming friend just so they'd have someone to talk to. And since I don't doorsit, they find my attempts to fight level 53 Battlemaiden henchmen with my level 26-but-sidekicked Peacebringer amusing. Especially since when I manage an epic faceplant, I don't whine about it.)

Fact: During the height of the AE craze, some players that *didn't* want to be constantly bothered by AE farm teams looking for fillers switched themselves to hide from searches.

Fact: Some players were set to be hidden from searches before this, either because they wanted to hide from spammers or just prefered to solo.

Fact: Using the Team Search tool to get number of players in-game is *wildly* unreliable, since it *only* returns the number of characters that match the search parameters. Anyone hidden automatically fails to match any search parameters and is excluded. Characters from the opposing faction are also excluded, except possibly in Co-op or PvP zones (I've never checked so I have no idea how it functions in these areas.) If you search by zone, anyone inside missions is excluded. If the list is truncated, it only returns the number of characters that were actually shown, and anyone not on the list is excluded.

Fact: All the servers have been upgraded substantially. An in-game population that might have locked a server when the game first launched could very likely still register as "green" at this time. (Only the devs know what the approximate population cap is for each server. I'm not aware that they have felt it necessary to share this information with the player base at this time.) In any case, the server load indicators are also not a reliable way to gauge the number of people playing the game.

Fact: In North America, the school year just recently started for many students that don't attend school year-round.
Assumption: Some of the people you aren't seeing are indeed, not in the game. But these people would still consider themselves active players if asked. They just consider "not flunking" to be a higher priority than teaming with you at this time.

Query: Coming to the forums and shouting "The game is dying, the sky is falling, DOOOMMMM!!!" is meant to accomplish what, exactly? If you have a suggestion that you're certain would increase the size of the playerbase, the Suggestions forum is over that way. <--> Otherwise, I'm not certain what you intend to accomplish, other than to mildly annoy some people. (I'm assuming here that mildly annoying people is not actually your primary goal.)
Good lord I cannot believe I am saying this AGAIN but here we go. The decline is based on my observations of the server loads - all light since late Aug. Mentioned this before and saying it again. Feel free to read SOME of the posts here - there aren't that many.

I am not here to yell DOOOOOOOOOOM or whatever the term is (this is pretty much the only MMO I like and don't really game). I would hope the DEVS take some of the criticisms here as feedback. Most of the game updates have been cosmetic - I believe it is cheaper and more profitable to do this. From what I am told, new environments, art, maps, systems etc is quite time consuming and, therefore, expensive. Unfortunately it is getting to be a bit much and the game is suffering, IMO. I know others feel the same but what %, I don't know. I don't chat with a huge number here and I often see such comments on pages when discussing CoH.

Anyway, I am more than happy to provide my reasoning but I think I have done it enough for this point

Here's to the DEVS stepping up the material we get and to seeing more players join/return to CoX! Excelsior!

Simply stating "people are leaving the game" with no qualifiers is just unsupported *DOOOOOOOM*. If you can SHOW that significantly more people are leaving the game than coming in, then you have something to worry about. But, you cannot show that. Your observations of server population are somewhat meaningless. Why? Because you're not everywhere on the server and you don't have access to some mysterious panopticon giving you hard numbers on who's actually on the server and who's hidden.

The devs can. They have access to the aforementioned hard numbers.
They say that subs are up.

Yes they should. They need to stop *DOOOOOOOM*ing and just play the fricking game. It's easier to get on teams that way. Standing around whining "thus sucks", "there's nobody on", "there's no teams", "nobody will team with me" accomplishes exactly JACK *BLEEP* SQUAT.

Wait. That's not QUITE true. It makes people go out of their way to AVOID YOU.

In short, lighten up a bit brother...

Currently? Sure. It does the same thing this time every year.
Unfortunately, you can't say whether this is part of a past trend (that'll rectify itself), or a new trend (that won't).

    Why?

    Because you don't know.

    Weak updates.

    *Sigh*

    See CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.

Simply flaming what's come before as "weak" helps NOTHING.

If you're going to ragequit, please do so SILENTLY. The attention-******* is just ever so slightly nauseating.

Wow. I love how you're Mr. CoH and can, in one single swoop, prove so many people so wrong (in your own mind).

Anyway, you can spin comments anyway you like. That is fine. You can be in your own reality You cannot dispute facts and then call people doomers for saying them - get real. Fact: the player base is declining and at an all time low during my 22 months. These players may or may not return and the new ones aren't flooding in. I hope this changes and we get a large player base but who knows. I don't have hard numbers and the NC Soft people don't make them readily available. All I can see are the server loads and they are low. Again, a fact.

Weak issues? You actually want me to detail this? Dude, are you a DEV or working for the company? Ugh.
Ok, why not. I joined after i11. So, my first issue was 12. It had some good stuff in it but was light. I pretty much like all of it. However, the huge wait for 12 made is seem worse.

Issue 13 was quite lame. We waited a long time for i13 and they give us Day Jobs. Shield power was cool and some QoL stuff. The rest? Meh.

Issue 14 was good. They finally gave us something innovative and cool. MA is wonderful but it was very poorly implemented into the game despite numerous cautions from the beta testers. Enter City of Farmers!

Issue 15 was light and weak. Reichman stuff used a lot of the same old maps (for the most part) and the storyline was a bit...off.

Issue 16 was a decent issue. It had some very cool elements but, once again, did not add anything new to do.

I don't have any desire to detail each issue and if you liked them well good for you. I thought they were ok.

It would have been nice to have something new to do, new maps...something different. Ah well. It seems many people have spoken by leaving the game.

Sadly, I don't think you're alone. I wish the game evolved a bit more but it didn't. The repetition and grind wears you out after a while. GR is our only hope...
  24. Ok I do believe the servers (Freedom and Virtue) had their capacity increased over a year ago. Keeping that in mind, the amount of players is much lower now than compared to a August. Also, the last 2XP weekend as well as this one have not been busy when comparing them to the previous 2XP weekends.

It would be nice to see the servers hit medium and heavy loads but they are not. People have left the game and may/may not return. Nobody can say. I think people should face facts - the game's player base is declining. Hopefully this turns around.

It is unfortunate. This game can compete with a lot of MMOs including the new ones but too many weak updates. This game has stagnated but I hope GR changes that.

Well it didn't seem like it was too busy or as busy as I remember. But the numbers were the highest I have seen them since August (based on server loads).
