How about the DEVS stop with the power prolif and just make new ones.
-
I think new TF/SFs are a good idea. However, only add them if they are in the caliber of the ITF. We got Reichsman after and that one is not so good. Weak story, repetitive villain group (we see them all over the game already) and just not as fun.
I also hope by new systems they mean a change on how/what we do for missions. The get a contact, get mish, go to door and do it is old. Add to that the same maps over and over...yes, it is time for a change.
So, yes, a well done WW TF would be great. Oh, and thanks for answering my question! -
Quote:This. Or most of this. Ran with some PUG groups and some SG mates. When we did some old TFs and radio missions, it got boring and fast. The same maps, same enemy groups...it was too much to stomach. I didn't go for too long this 2XP weekend. This game is beyond stale and I don't know if GR will change it.Tried to play, realized I can't do the same old stale content any more, even if it was 4x XP.
Cancelled account til GR, hoping that it brings a ton of new mission maps and some new gameplay in.
Not a rant about the game itself, but anything that's as repetetive as CoX content is will get stale and boring after 5 years.
On another note, I was very happy to see the big 2 servers hit medium load. Have not seen that in a long time. It has been almost 2 years since I have seen servers at high load or greyed out due to high population - sad but true. -
Found this interesting article regarding the subs for CoX.

I think the Mighty Terminotaur was the original inspiration here!

Quote:It depends. How do those subscription numbers effect the share price? Are they offset by other financial factors? What's the financial health of NCSoft as a whole? How much of the balance sheet does this game account for? And what are the impacts to the share price if those subscriptions numbers change?
You know, people on these boards will do all kinds of mental gymnastics to extrapolate the subscription estimates by looking at the revenues. Do you really believe forum goers here are SMARTER than serious investors, or is it that you think NCSoft believes the serious investors are stupid?
Because unless you do, hiding subscription numbers does nothing to impact shareholders' decisions.
NCSoft Exec 1: Boy these subscription numbers are so low! I'm worried this will drive away investors!
NCSoft Exec 2: Hey... I have an idea... let's just NOT TELL THEM! If we don't say anything about the numbers... they'll just invest and be fooled!
NCSoft Exec 1: That's brilliant! We'll make millions!
That's not a realistic situation. That's a bad comedy sketch.
I'm an investor (not in NCSoft, but in the stock market) and I do enough research that a lack of subscription numbers wouldn't impact my decisions either way, because my decisions would be based on actual dollar figures on the balance sheet, not a number of subscriptions. A million subscriptions with a high overhead may be less desirable than a fraction of that which is more profitable. I've not done the research on NC Soft itself, but the actual subscription numbers are less important than EBIT and expenses of the company as a whole.
I also know, as an investor, that any information relevant to the performance of the company (in terms of return on investment and price per share) CANNOT be obfuscated from me, in accordance with SEC rules and regulations. If subscription numbers, by themselves, were vital to deciding if NCSoft was a good investment or not, they'd be in the annual report.
You could have a million subscriptions and lose money. You could have a mere 100,000 subscriptions and be profitable. Subscription numbers are, by themselves, entirely arbitrary. There may be a relationship between EBIT and subscription numbers, but that relationship isn't terribly important on the bottom line. Financial performance over time is all that matters.
Because that trend will tell me, as an investor, that should the subscription model not work for NCSoft on one of it's titles, if the company's management could figure out a way to maintain profitability, either by changing models or altering it's investment and development strategies. I don't need, as an investor, to know exactly how many subscribers there are. I just need to know that NCSoft knows it's business and is doing a good job of making money at said business, and it's financial balance sheets over time are showing a trend towards profitability. Subscriptions of one game that represents a small percentage of it's revenues aren't even on my investment radar.
There are many very good reasons why you don't publish subscription numbers and all of them have to do with marketing, not with attracting shareholders. Hiding subscription numbers won't "fool" shareholders. Investors aren't stupid and I doubt that NCSoft believes they are stupid.
PLAYERS, on the other hand...
Yes, shareholders would be interested in sub numbers. A game relies on the subs. Any savvy investor is going to look at the main areas of an MMO. If people don't sub then the game will perish. CoX is a small portion of NC Soft but shutting down a game would always cause concern; it'd be silly to ignore this. Anyway, this is for investors.
In my 2 years, the last 5+ months have had the lowest number of players I have ever seen (in my general observations). The game may not be dead at this point but you would have to be silly if it did not concern you. I like this game and want it to strive but if the numbers decrease then there could be trouble. GR might be pivotal in this game's existence. -
Quote:I have been looking for CoX numbers. Where did you find them? I can't help but notice you did not cite or link any source at all.Sorry to say, but CoH/V's Q4 2009 revenue was way down, it didn't meet its 2009 revenue target and the set revenue target for 2010 is less than it was for 2009 (19 000 million Won in 2010 vs 25 000 million Won in 2009).
So the financial indicators are that NCsoft doesn't see CoH/V growing in 2010. Or even staying stable.
Maybe GoRo brings players back. Maybe Paragon Studios got by some soft numbers into NCsoft's financials on the back of Aion doing fantastically. But the Q4 financials painted a very interesting story. -
I pray we can customize our giant monster class NPCs in the Mission Architect. Otherwise, I find it kinda pointless
-
I am SO happy they are revamping the Posi TF. I have only ever done it 3 times in 2+ years. It is horrible right now. Synpase TF is also brutal (and worse) so I hope that is next on the fix list. I am so happy they are actually paying some attention to us.
Lots of good stuff in i17. I think DEVS have to really look adding new wrinkles to any new content. We have tons of arcs etc. I hope anything added is unique and looks new and fresh. By that, I do also mean the mission maps. Stop recycling them SO MUCH!
I was really hoping CoX makes their own Nemesis system. It would be so cool to put in your own arch-enemy that everyone else can see/experience. Mission Architect is a cool system but it was just implemented poorly. Everyone I encounter uses it to farm. I look for mission teams but they are rare.
Anyway, I think the DEVS really have to realize any future content has to be innovative in order for this game to evolve. Adding in a new arc or missions is almost getting pointless... there is a ton of that already in game. Make future content fresh, innovative and new. After 6 years it...well...gets dull... -
Quote:Disrupt the feel of the game? To quote you: "Hah. Ahaha."Hah. Ahaha.
Also: I have always been against adding outside IPs to the game, because it would disrupt the feel of the game, not to mention add more work for the devs to replicate existing characters properly.
I think if this game starts to sink then they would have to do something outside the box, so to speak. -
So, GR is coming out and hopefully giving this tired old horse a kick in the butt. If it doesn't there could be some shaky times ahead. CoX will need something in a bold, new direction. I was thinking maybe they team up with some comic companies that are not involved in an MMO and have a mutual partnership. They could add these IPs in CoX which would expose them to the MMO/gamer world. Some benefits: In exchange run ads for CoX in all of these comics/put the CoX label on the cover etc.
So, who do I mean by IP? Well, I was thinking characters such as Spawn, Hellboy, Savage Dragon etc etc. Each main character could have their own TF/SF featuring that character's world and make them ITF quality with completely unique maps etc.
You could also use the 'invasion' feature in game and have main characters invade a zone in game every once in a while.
I know adding an IP would sort of take away from the game's independent feel but these smaller comic book company heroes are kinda in the same boat. Anyway, just my 2 cents. -
Quote:Really? You can't see how NC Soft is preying on the people who love this game and is trying to milk them for every last nickel? Really? You can't see that? Showing us gratitude for being loyal? Wow. I would love to tell you what I really think of your post but I would get banned. I would not have minded if they made it part of the collector's pack but it is SO obvious they are trying to scam every last cent they can. This after NC Soft made some huge profits last quarter. I guess we all see the marketing strategies that earned them these huge profitsI have read most of this thread and can say a few things. People, you just don't get it. They are giving us a chance to play some of the going rogue stuff early, great way to show some gratitude for being loyal. Yes we have to pay for it. But if you choose not to so be it, you lose nothing. Some of us can afford it, some can't. This one truth is what makes this country great. I have play dp on test and loved it, I will spend the money to get to play it early and will be buying to CC as well. To those that can't, I'm sorry, this doesn"t effect you at all. I team alot and I can say that a lot of players have not bought the booster packs, it doesn"t change the way they play. In closing, if you are going to buy it anyway why are you complaining and if not you don't get vote.
Makes 'this' country great? Well, I agree Canada is pretty great so I agree with you there. -
I think NC Soft's sales ploy here is somewhat....Cryptic....get it...Cryptic!!! XD
Ok not nearly that bad but man oh man what greed can do to people. It's sad. I am quite sure many players can barely afford to play this game with today's economic state but that doesn't stop companies from screwing us over whenever possible. Why should video games be any different. I am sure some of these company execs would sell their kids if it meant turning an extra buck.
Well, I am not too upset with NC Soft but will not be getting GR early. I want to know exactly what's in it first and then make up my mind. This game has been underwhelming for the last while and I can't assume GR is going to revolutionize this game. I hope it will and make me eager to play again. Sadly, I haven't logged into this game for a bit. So much potential...help us War Witch, you're our only hope... -
Quote:I don't think it's confusing at all. They're asking us to shell out 30 or 40 $ U.S. for something without knowing what exactly we're paying for. Not happening in my case. It costs just less than a new game so it will need a ton of stuff.ok, having gotten some sleep, this method is a little confusing to some, but I think some people are getting hung up on the free month being 15 dollars, lets remember that that only is if you are on a monthly billing structure, the value for people on longer set-ups will be less, and I suspect that people who are invested enough in the game to prepurchase months ahead of the actual relwease, well , i suspect that a healthy portion of those players already are on the longer billing cycles, in fact i suspect that a good number are just now running down their holdiay deals, and may have, like myself, already signed on for the deal offered last summer, so for a lot of us, the free month would be 10 dollars or slightly above. It is still money, and if the ultimate pack costs more than 10 bucks i will be raising heck up in harlem, but it looks less dumb than it did last night, it still appears to be confusing to a number of people though..
This sale technique also seems to be a bit of a cash grab. Ah well. I am waiting to hear what exactly we get before I buy and keep playing. -
Pretty bold move by NC Soft to have it this method put in place. We don;t know what GR contains so I can't be one for doing a pre-order. From what I have seen to date, there isn't enough for me to spend money on GR. I can barely play now so GR will need a lot in order to keep my interest. Side switching, ultra mode, 2 new powers seem to be the main features so far....not even close to being enough. I will wait and see and maybe get the full version.
-
We have too many zones. Close some down. Put more in the ones we do have.
-
Well, we don't know a whole lot about GR when you think about it (or I assume so). So, I am hoping for some ITF quality TFs; some new archetypes; completely new set of mission maps (and not using any of the old ones); costume creator upgrade and lots of new costume pieces. This is in addition to what we hear is coming out. The game seems to be costing $29 U.S. and isn't much cheaper than most new MMOs. So, it really should come with a good amount of new stuff.
Looking back at CoV, it had new zones and kinda new ATs. Unfortunately, it used the same factions, maps, etc. GR will need to be more.
I was all a flutter about pre-ordering when the announcement came out last week. After having time to think about it....I think I might wait to see what GR is about before I shell out $.

Quote:I tend to agree here. What they have offered, so far, is not enough to resurrect the game. My graphics card probably couldn't handle Ultra mode and the other features are good but nothing great. Side switching is way overdue...so overdue that I am ok without it now. Anyway, some info would be good...even an updated timeline as to releases, betas etc.Second week of Feburay... no info on GR and no big "We're going to PAX-East, here is the official info on GR" announcement yet...come on Marketing Dept, Let the Devs blab about what they've been working on!
We need some new info so I an allocate funds and time to GR... with the current meat on this bone I am not going to bite! 2 powersets that I don't want and a graphics update that I can't afford do not make me want to run out and get this... -

Ok, so you linked your old posts/guides. Good work. I am sure someone can use them. I am sure the new players may review them. I still fail to see how you contributed to this thread, other than being a 'troll'. You didn't make any points about the article or form your own opinion on the topic. Instead, you decided to directly attack me and not put anything (for or against) into the thread. Ah well.Your posts in this thread speak volumes of your character and intellect
Good work!
I really don't see how linking your old posts is adding to the discussion. Must be the new book learnin' you crazy kids are doing these days -
Quote:The repetitiveness is wearing on me, too. I suggest we start going back and simply remove anything that's repetitive. The following are additions from just the past 14 months which are just the same old thing over and over and should be completely banned:
One
Two
Three
And one of the most egregious examples is four and five which is just about exactly the same!
Six
Seven
Eight
Nine
Ten
Eleven
Twelve
Thirteen
Wow. Someone has a lot of time on their hands. Good work! If you dig a bit more I am sure you could come up with more of my posts that take a similar tone. Well, keep tryingOh, I missed your contribution to the thread. I'll look twice. I'm sure you're not here just to be a 'troll' as, I believe, it's termed. Heavens no, not you. The be all mod of the CoX forums!
Now, if you could only come up with something of your own...maybe one day -
http://www.massively.com/2010/02/03/...map/#continued
Massively gives is a pretty good write-up. I am sure anyone that has played this game for over a month would concur. The repetition in this game is savage and the main reason I stray! It's true!
Also, this just in, other related/surprising news: the sky is blue! -
Please, not the same event again. Please...no....

I actually dislike the multiple versions of the signature characters. Apparently GR will have the alternate versions, Cimerora has the ancient versions, etc. Why? Why not make new supers all together. Most of the signature heroes are pretty cheezy and the villain side revolves far too much around Arachnos and everyone getting to be a 'chosen one' Give me a break hahaha.
Make some new and exciting factions that are modern and cool looking. Just my 2 cents.
