  1. I tried to provide some feedback but he is beyond help or so it seems. Mr. P.S. strikes me as an immature adolescent who is trying to review a game he dislikes. What makes him different than any other 'troll'? Not much. His video isn't a review and he doesn't know what is required for a credible review.

I take pity on Mr. P.S. in his new apartment and stained clothing. One day he will learn and I pray he does. I would like to see our society flourish (and bathe); I would like to see someone debate intelligently (not rant)...oh, I could go on but I won't. I hope the OP doesn't go off the deep end and harm himself or others.

Mr. P.S., I would be happy to mail you some soap and shampoo if you like. Perhaps some cologne for when you have the ladies over to your mom's basement? Perhaps some sweets for the ladies (or will you just eat them)? Let me know how I may be of help...if I may quote Bon Jovi, "I'll be there for you. These five words I swear to you."

Also, WoW is not coming to you. WoW has 10 man and 25 man raids, and PVP events that rely heavily on teamplay dynamics. The difference is WoW gives casuals a reason to interact with the rest of the community. CoH might have a healthy forum community, but inside it's not so lively.
There are multiple teams on the go in Praetoria right now at 230am PST. Another swing and a miss by Mr. Pit-Stains.

I'm sorry dude but I can no longer consider your opinion valid. If it took me a week to do that using the old CoH missions, I would never have gotten to level 50 after 2 weeks of re-registering.

Review is 100% valid because Going Rogue didn't change my criticisms.
Your bias opinion is valid in your mind. Wow. Your video is valid because GR didn't change any of your criticisms. Astonishing. You know, it may not but you can't make that claim because you didn't experience GR Did the light go on yet?

I find you a very interesting topic today. Not sure why...but it baffles me how you are so adamant about your 'review' being accurate and dead on. I am assuming you're just out of high school or something because your thinking is very clearly flawed in analytical terms.

You point out that my review is bad because the newest model of the toaster, Toastinator 500-A has an additional setting just for toasting bagels. I point out that Toastinator 500-A still doesn't even ******* work, but you don't care because I didn't talk about the option for toasting bagels.

Does that make sense to you?
You just don't get it. It's cool. I get you believe the game is whack because of your noted criticisms. I get it. I've said that. That is your opinion. For anyone to take you seriously, you need to research the item a bit more so there is some credibility to your claim.

Let's try one example: GR. One of your gripes: lame bosses. Well, like I said, bosses aren't too complex in GR or CoH. Some are different but not enough. Not sure why that is. Anyway, GR has added some changes to the mechanics of mobs in missions. The odd ambush; options part way through that effect the mish; different aggro mechanics and room design. So, while the bosses are kinda the same, the missions have given us a new wrinkle. It's not huge but it's there and kinda fun. You would not know this nor can you comment on it because you didn't even try it.

Your broken toaster example isn't even relevant here. Do yourself a favor and learn how to analyze feedback. It's not all good or valid but this thread has generated some obvious flaws with your review. You have dismissed all of them. Dude, seriously, it's a terrible review. You have noted a lot of concerns I agree with but what you presented was not a review of the game.

    Does the boxed expansion change...

-low level salvage, recipes and enhancements being worth millions of influence on the AH?

-Enhancement system upgrade taking way too much downtime?

-Not enough inventory space for low lv characters.

-Repetitive and boring mission design for levels 1-50.

    -Lack of pvp content.

    -Lack of endgame content.

    -Boring boss design.

-Needing to take several optional powers just to unlock the ones you actually want to use?

Or, you know, anything else I was critical of in my review?

Maybe if I said I was bored levels 1 to 20, or that I wished I could make my Scrapper a villain rather than just roll the nearly identical Stalker class, then Going Rogue would have impacted my review. But I didn't and it didn't.

    Nice try.
Oh, I absolutely get what you're saying. You say the game didn't address all of your points with GR. I disagree. A lot of what you wanted may not be there but GR did get a couple of your points. However, that's not my issue here or in my previous post. So, let's try again.

A competent review will look at significant aspects of the game. GR is significant and I think we both agree. You didn't try it out or play it and just made the ASSumption it's the same old, same old. In some ways you could be right but you don't know for sure. You never played it! Get it? In order to have a competent review, you have to review the material Did the light bulb go on? I hope so. You can't claim you've reviewed a game when you didn't even explore one of it's two major expansions! That should seem obvious to you but it isn't. This is a tip, in general, for you to apply to any and all future reviews. I hope you take the suggestion to heart.

I don't quite get your 'nice try' comment. I only suggest you remove your review for your own sake. I am, in no way, a complete fanboy to this game. If you look at my history of posts, I have some very critical ones. I would like to see the game improve. It has the potential to be so much more and might be in the near future. GR isn't great but it's a definite step in the right direction. You may want to try it someday. Not for your review but for you. It's obvious your review is very weak. Call this a lesson and maybe one day you'll put together a legitimate review.

PS - if you think Scrapper and Stalkers are nearly the same....well...you really have no clue about the intricacies of this game. You just validate my feedback: you don't know the topic well enough

    is MA dead?

I think the best way to generate interest is to have the DEVS possibly add missions to the game canon/lore on a regular basis. These could become the paper and/or scanner missions so it doesn't disrupt the lore too much.

This may be a lot of work but if they set up strict guidelines and then look at the arcs, it may work out. Maybe state they would like to add one mission every two months for a while? I know it would get the MA interest way up!

Is MA currently dead? No but it isn't too active as far as I can see. It's tough for a player to find something well put together and fun.

I really like this as an item in the game to use and play. For some reason I have teamed with players that have a 'no AE' policy and others who complain about the lack of XP, rewards and difficulty. It's too bad but maybe one day the MA will get some legitimate interest and not rubbish missions and farms.

The other content is new power pools for certain archetypes and the option to do alignment quests to make your character go to the other side of the fence-- and other than having the alignment system, the quests aren't structurally any different than any other quest in the game already.

Neither content addresses my criticisms of the game, so it really has no impact on my review. But to appease the vocal majority I'll review Going Rogue content in my next video.

I've become very intolerant of MMORPGs that have poor boss encounter design. I was already fed up with it 14 years ago when I first got into MMORPGs, and now I'm completely unable to not be highly critical of any game that can't offer more of a challenge than games which came out when I was a child. If you really think about it, something as old and simplistic as The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has more challenging boss design than most MMORPGs on the market. There is no excuse for modern games made for adults (like CoH is) to not be at least that challenging.
This comment right here displays one of your many flaws: you didn't even bother with the boxed expansion.

Like I said before, there are some valid points we made to your post. You still haven't acknowledged them because if you had then you would not make this type of comment. You may think there is nothing new to GR but you don't know for sure; you didn't try it or acknowledge it's presence.

I really hope you learn from some of this because your review and many replies are very flawed. I do agree with a a lot of your comments about weak parts to CoH but when writing a review, you really have missed the mark. You don't know your topic well enough to present a critical review. Sorry. No two ways about it.

Anyway, the servers are quite busy even at 1am PST on a Monday night of the long weekend. I guess we'll see how many stick after Sept 17. For me, this MMO is one of the better ones and your review is very inaccurate. If you keep doing this type of thing, your credibility will be shot (it already is with me - I wouldn't trust your review on any other game I am not familiar with). Anyway, you may want to take down that youtube post and try again.

That was my look on it too.

As long as the ads fit the setting of the game, I'm all for it.

Hell, if given the opportunity I'd totally play a character like Captain Amazing. Especially if being a sponsor ***** got me free gametime
Yeah exactly! I get a bit annoyed at all these people screaming about no ads and then whine about the crap costume pieces we get for free and then have to pay for the ok ones in booster packs. Just a possible situation where ads could have meant savings for the players. Some people just have no clue
  10. I thought this was a good idea by the CoH team. Ads to generate revenue are were subtle in game. I am working on the assumption any additional revenue would go towards improving the actual game.

I am a bit surprised at how many people were offended by this. To improve the product they had to look at a real ad and not a pretend one. No problem here and I am not sure why others were upset over this. Very common these days but ah well. Who knows what actually happened to the ad system.

Are you trying to suggest I don't understand why I don't like something?

And as for my claim of a million + subscribers in other games....uh, there's no backpedaling, those are facts.

Some people don't agree with my conclusion. I knew that before I even made the review. It'd be more helpful if you explain why you like the content I don't like, rather than try to dismiss my reasons for disliking that very same gameplay by trying to claim I'm ignorant and stupid and so forth. Because trying to prove I don't know what I'm talking about isn't gonna fly, because I do. The only difference is you like the stuff I don't like.
I'm not trying to change your mind here. I really don't care. I am just wondering why you don't back up your 'facts' with any empirical evidence. Please link me to a game, other than WoW, that has more than a millions subscribers. Also, please compare apples to apples here - that means pay to play games and not free to play.

Geez, what kind of schooling are you taking? Not to be rude here but you can't make all these types of claims without referencing or proving them. Any level of university teaches you that. Should we do this in forum posts? Nah. However, when trying to do a serious review then maybe you should. Again, it supports my theory of you making a very so so effort with this review.

You ignoring GR, or even mentioning it, also is a major indictment of your objectivity and ability to review.

After reading a lot of this thread, it seems you are not interested in feedback and just get very defensive. Some of the posts are a touch unfair to you, granted, but you really need to 'man up' here and take your lumps when putting yourself out there with this type of review. I suggest you read some of these comments in this thread and take them to heart if you want to be taken seriously.
  12. Well, GK, I really hope you're not actually trying to defend the style of your review or it's lack of objectivity.

This review seems like its of the game from 2005. Like I said before, you have some legit criticisms but you are way too bias and too whiny to take seriously.

This game has it's flaws and some of them are never really addressed but it is still well received by many professional gaming web sites.

CoH isn't for everyone and it seems like it really isn't for you. You half-arsed a review and it shows. You want to be taken seriously? No chance. Know what you're doing first and then research your task a bit. Your replies go outside the scope of your own argument far too many times as well (best example: where you try and back pedal your claim of MMOs having millions of subs but then note mostly free to play ones AND without any evidence to substantiate any of your claims - not too smooth).

Anyway, good try and hopefully this has been a bit of a learning lesson for you. If you want to be taken seriously for any type of reviews, you have a long way to go.

..and several others have since came out and gained a million+ subscribers.
The only MMO I know of with that number is WoW. Can you provide the name and numbers of the others? Some empirical evidence would be sweet. Most companies do list their quarterlies. For a game going 6+ years, CoH has a decent amount of subs.

Just out of curiosity, which MMOs do you prefer over CoH. If you say WoW, you may lose your last bit of credibility with me
  14. I think the review was a touch harsh and kinda unprofessional. By unprofessional, I mean the profanity and being dressed like a scrub. Minor point.

I also think you make a lot of valid points. The repetitive maps are a pain. The market is a fun tool but the prices are way too high.

I agree about the lack or rewards as well for various missions etc. Nothing special and sometimes too onerous (enjoyed your suggestion of giving you some reward for doing one of the task force commander missions).

I also think AV fights are a touch too easy at times. I don't think any toon can solo most of the AVs in game so maybe you can enlighten me about your experiences there. Have more strategy involved would be nice.

The IO/crafting system is a pain in the butt but I don't agree with your gripes about getting enhancements. In a decent team, sometimes you don't even need enhancements. I often just use drops as I go along. If you have a tough mission then go get them.

This game is not almost a decade old. It's just over 6. Again, minor point. However, I will add they should have added more end game content and original content. I think the last lead dev really steered CoH into a rough patch. I also have no idea of what resources are allocated to CoH by NC Soft so maybe they don't have the money to add what we'd really like. It is obvious they take the low road in a lot of ways by just repeating the same missions over and over. They really have to stop doing that.

Overall, you make some valid points but the pros really outweigh the cons. You really don't touch on many positives and it seems like you missed a lot of stuff on your journey to level 50. GOING ROGUE is a great new system for the early levels. Fun stuff for sure although they do the repeat mission map thing again...sadly.

Running all over the zones for contacts is something they did long ago; that part is still in game but you really don't do it and if you do there is often a cell phone option. I think all MMOs are designed to keep you playing for as long as they can so making you do this rubbish is not unlike a lot of MMOs - keep them running around and doing something without it costing us a lot of money to make.

I don't know what to say here about your review. I agree with a lot of your criticisms but I feel most of those are minor (other than end game and maps). A lot of your concerns did exist at one time but are not so obvious in the newer updates. I really think you just went through the content as quick as you could.

Honestly, you need to research your topic much more before considering yourself a reviewer. Anyone can slap something online and be harsh critic. Your review is a total rush job and it shows. Many of your negative comments are absolutely true but you need to be a bit more objective. It almost seems like someone at CoH ticked you off you're writing a revenge piece. If I had never played CoH before and saw your review, I would think it's a piece of trash. Consider this: it has been around 6+ years and probably has at least 150 000 subs right now. Stop comparing it to WoW's sub numbers because that is the exception and not common in MMOs.

PS - you're reviewing CoH so why do it in pieces? Mission Architect in another review? Why? Review it as a game in it's entirety.

I20 in 2011? So odd considering closed beta for it begins next week (?).

Is i20 supposed to be massive? We've had a lot of light issues lately so that would be a welcome change!

I still can't see how it's not out this year
  16. Nice!

So, i19 sounds like it will go live SOON(tm) and i20 hits closed beta next week for maybe a December release? Is that what we're looking at? I am guess i19 will be October; sounds like most of this was stuff not quite complete for GR and might just need some finishing touches.

I also wonder what i20 is since it is going into closed already.

I also really hope i19 hits soon so I can work on my toons and get the powers adjusted.

Do you have a source for this? It makes sense and I thought this is how it'd go but I was wondering if there was official word.

I think this is a hot topic because every toon made will likely need a respec. I hate doing this because the respec system isn't the best but it's not a big deal. I have a lot of alts and I am sure it will be a complete nightmare doing a respec on all of them.

Bottom line, it's a great change and overdue. Too bad it didn't happen with GR Good work, devs!

Also, I hope the new TF isn't a bunch of old maps slammed together. I am already twitching when I keep seeing the same maps (old and new) in Prae.
  18. I agree with the OP, completely, in regards to the same old map over and over. After 6 years they should retire ALL of those old maps and not add them ever again.

I know it's work but I would rather see a bunch of new mission maps added over more zones. Once Praetoria is completed then just focus on new maps and retire all of the old ones. The new lab maps, as noted earlier, are starting to kill me now!

I also see a lack of epic looks/maps out there. No new planets or planet destroyers to beat. They really need to add something epic. IMO, they have some amazing parts to this game and I hope the new lead Dev makes more 'to do' things than Pos did.

Hey man, welcome back to the game!
  20. I am pleased with GR and the experience. It did it's job - generated new interest in a tired, old game. I still enjoy CoH and have been on lots since GR hit and it looks like many others have as well. I have never seen this level of activity since being here (joined i11). Happy to see it.

Unfortunately, we don't know what the Devs are going to do next. Whatever it is, it seems to take quite a while. I would be surprised if the Incarnate system is completed within 1 year. I am also thinking they want to add TFs to Praetoria and they already noted more zones are coming for higher levels. Seems like a lot of work and I don't know if I have the patience...too many other games on the horizon.

As for new powers!? I would love to see tech armour! Gatling gun mounted on the shoulder; missile launchers using the same missile animation we have on Arachnos flyers; massive cannons we could carry (like Rocket Girls); chest beam cannon like some new Clockwork bosses have; also Clockwork have a cool attack originating from a small almost antennae like item on their backs; large hand held gatling gun and instead of color customization, allow us to choose where the items shoot from so it won't interfere with the toon look too much
  21. TheJazMan

    One Shot TFs

So, after being here for a while, I can't help but notice the CoH canon is very intertwined. I think there needs to be a bit more 'one shots'. A bit of a departure from the usual canon and something you can and it will all be right there; no more seeing them over and over all over the place. The uniqueness would also be a solid draw for players, IMO. Encountering a group, arch-enemy etc. in just one location or mission....or a TF/SF.

I think doing something like this would allow the CoH staff to stray from canon and just go nuts in a creative manner. It would be nice to see something more super hero-ish than we have been getting lately. I love the ITF but it's ancient Romans mixed in with a faction I don't really care for.

How about something new. Something epic. Make it a TF and with all original maps. Something like a galactic journey with all new aliens etc. They could also do another TF based under water and give us some maps of that nature. This may also cure some player's itch for new zones with these themes. This game has way too many zones as it is.

Perhaps a small, dedicated Dev team to produce there between issues. So we could see 2-3 unique TFs/SFs a year on top of a regular issue (maybe the issue is a tad lighter due to a split of resources but who knows).

I really think GR is decent and generated significant interest in this game once again. I just think it would be cool to focus on giving us more high quality TFs like the ITF.
  22. Completely agree with OP. Very lame looking.

I also have say I really dislike Studio 55. A dance club in a utopia should have been SO much more but it fails. It's not like a rave location or secret set up. It's THE club in 'utopia'.

It'd also be nice to see a new hospital setting in Praetoria. City of Recycling at it again...sadly.
  23. I really like OP's point #6. It'd be nice if, whenever the leader picks a mish (in any location), you get a large pop-up window and can read the mission or close it if you don't want to. Maybe even have it like those help pop-ups (exclamation points) where if it comes up you can close it and read it later. That way you know what's going on and feel much more immersed in the CoX world.
  24. PS - the character slot issue is beyond annoying. I am locked out of my server, essentially, and, no, I don't want to start a toon elsewhere and transfer cuz my pals are on Virtue!
  25. The new zones are very nice and the new missions are interesting enough. Sadly they use the old maps again and re-skin a couple. Very sad. Studio 55 is too similar to Pocket D which is another shame; same hospital interior too?

It seems adding more zones is a bad idea. I know they will but it might be very tough teaming and finding people over so many zones. I don't think we'll maintain this mass of players for a great length.

We didn't get any drastically different mission types or goals. I like the varying paths but there could be more variety involved. Maybe a future issue.

I just hope the Incarnate system has its own set of unique missions (and maps) and is a fun end game system. Unfortunately that is coming SOON.
