Quote:It is wide open. I usually take hasten and super speed for travel. Combat jumping, tough and weave.I'll whip you up a build and then you can play with it after that (I'm bored). Are you found of any particular power pools, epics, or travel powers?
Looking for good defence, decent damage and hope to keep the build on the cheaper side. I am ok without purples - LOtGs are fine.
I appreciate any help and builds so thanks -
Interesting experiment...
I put these on the market for 1 inf whenever I get them. This is a video game. -
Quote:Well said! Let me add that Praetoria has been in CoH canon for far longer than the last few issues. Let me also add the GR expansion was all Praetoria as well. GR is far more than a typical issue.I'll put my vote in for "tired of the Praetorian focus". The location is very pretty, the individual stories, many of them are well written... the overall sagea, IMHO, is being overdone. Praetoria *IS* wacky Goatee land, the Mirrorverse. It does not require or deserve any more depth of focus beyond that (it saddens me that this level of storytelling isn't being applied to the main environment in the lvl 1-44 range beyond Praetoria tie-ins). And when the whole thing devolved into a Frank Herbert-esqe festival of plots-within-plots, secrets-within-secrets, I lost interest. Seriously, the Ghouls and the Destroyers are revealed as artificial threats to keep the populace in line. The Hamidon is firmly placed as Cole's own muppet in his official bio. Would *ANYONE* be seriously surprised if it were revealed that the man pulling Clavin Scott's strings from the background was in fact, Tyrant?
I wouldn't, and it saddens me that I can think that way. This is supposed to be a superheroes game, not Ghost In The Shell. I look forward to the Issue when the threat is an actual menacing threat from beyond, and not some dystopic conspiracy-laden alternate version of ourselves.
Because that reminds me far too much of the real world we all have to live in.
It also looks like the TF and SF is going to be Praetoria based. You also get to deal with Skyraiders - another very dull faction in CoH. Why couldn't we get some new super villain team TF where we take them out for whatever said reason; a group far more compelling than the Praetorian stuff. IMO the i20 TF/SF could have been the perfect way to add something else to the game. The raids/trials further the Praetoria stuff and then we could have seen something completely different! No more factions...maybe just a rival super group...5 or 6 other supers and their plots etc to deal with...you know...like they do in comics.
I guess i20 comes out in April so, depending on what it's like, it might be time to break after April from this game. It seems to be the same old, same old issue after issue. I will say the new raids might be fun and are a bit different from the usual (giant turrets to take out our incarnates...yay...or not).
I hope War Witch et al add something very different in each issue. The stuff here, after 7 years, is overly repetitive and beyond stale. -
Yeah I love how all of the i20 content looks like it will be heavy on the Praetoria stuff. Oh joy. I can't wait....
Yes, folks, that was SARCASM! -
That was very good of you to record and upload.
I am surprised someone didn't ask about the ability to customize the Lore pets -
Quote:I think most of the old TFs are just horrid. I have no idea how they got put into a game. When I first joined and played Synapse...I wanted to quit the game. Fortunately my good friend who got me into CoX said it gets better. Yikes....the old TFs really need fixing...I found Citadel to be rather... meh. It's neither exciting or annoying. It's just flavorless, and there's a big bondage fetishist at the end. Bah.
Y'know what task force was really annoying and needs revamping? Synapse. Dear god... cloned map after cloned map of clockwork for hours and hours. AAAAGGHHH! -
Quote:These are my questions as well and concerns. The old TFs and SFs really suck bad. I can't stand them and even the WST hasn't tempted me too much (although I have done a couple).Glad to read that it sounds like back details are *finally* after the better part of a decade of requests in the production queue. But the not *too* soon remark does give me pause. 1 year? 2 years? It's getting late.
The desire to revamp at least some of the legacy content, even if it is only legacy TFs is encouraging.
And add my name into the hat hoping that IDF costume bits (or something!) are coming to the players with i20.
To be clear, that list of trials... that's mapping out i20, i21 and likely i22, correct? -
Any mention of us getting new costume pieces for i20? The IDF set was teased way back before i19. Other than the servers being together, not much news there. I thought people making such effort to go to see the CoH gang in person would be rewarded much more than this....or am I missing something?

Quote:I am very glad street clothes got put on the back burner. Give us SUPERHERO stuff!Am I the only one who finds this to be very disappointing, and a bit of a disservice? For a game that touts customization, saying "Oh, you can't have a street clothe wearing hero, it's not heroic." strikes me as being a big mistake.
Heroes can be caught offguard, or maybe not have time to get into their costume. We have Pocket D and Studio 55 for roleplaying, there are characters that aren't spandex clad heroes, that street clothing would suit, it would suit villains to for similar reasons.
Also, if street clothes 'aren't very heroic', then what the hell, Party Pack? How heroic is dancing like Michael Jackson, or bouncing a basketball? -
Quote:I have been thinking something like this for a while. It feels more like a D&D type game or some military/fantasy game hybrid; this is totally within the comic realm but maybe not as significant as it is here. Praetoria is not my idea of super hero comic stuff - it is nice background and there are some great aspects but this has been the focal point for too long. Also our very super incarnate powers are heavily based in P. too? Ugh.Praetoria / Incarnates, as it is currently being executed, is such a bad idea. I think what's going on is that the devs are bored with the superhero / villain game and are trying to transfer themselves to another game while keeping their current salaries and positions. They're doing it by changing the superhero game into something else.
Boo hiss.
I don't want to play a game where the goal is to fight an evil empire, and to become a god in the process of dethroning the evil god. It's the classic bad AD&D story with sci-fi scenery. Bleh.
These were some of the main reasons I suggested these One-Shots. -
Quote:Any chance we could your build on here? I am new to both powers and wouldn't mind having a solid build guide to look atKM/SR is a great combo, and currently my favorite Brute. The scaling resists work with the -damage, and the +recharge helps with stacking +damage and getting Power Siphon back that much quicker. Aesthetically, both sets have a light, agile feel that go well together.
-
How about NO myths and maybe something more super/comic book like! We have touched on myths already. Let's see some epic stuff that is kinda like what we read in comics. I am thinking bring out the classic rogues gallery - like in Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and Batman (to name a few). They had some periods of amazing foes and story lines. This game is lacking a cool rogues gallery.
Enough of the Nazis and the related factions. Add some more actual super hero genre stuff and not military types etc. -
Quote:I would prefer to get a sidekick and be able to completely customize its appearance. If the devs aren't game for that then this idea of swords, guns, orbiting energy spheres etc would be the next best route. I do not want any CoH canon attached to my toon; I really don't find the cannon overly interesting or compelling. The CoH lore strikes me as a tad repetitive and not exciting - also the look/appearance of so many NPCs/sig characters etc is a total turn off.I think the idea of using existing mobs from the game as player pets is pretty dumb.
Making it work out from a flavor standpoint is a pretty tough ask. Even if you had access to every enemy group in the game, it's never going to entirely make sense to see people walking around with an IDF guy or warwork or CoT mage or whatever in tow, especially if they have particular powers that make them appeal to certain ATs or powersets.
I'd like it much better if they were nonhuman objects of some kind; dancing swords, little gun turrent/targeting drone things, nictus-style fuzzies, whatever. -
Quote:This might be a bit of an apples to oranges situation. For those of you who are "tired" of Praetoria - I would hate to be in a movie theater with you when the plot of the film doesn't go in the direction you want it.
No, seriously, this is why I carry a macheté with me when I go to the movies.
Praetoria is a decent idea but it is limited. The GR stuff was neat but may have been a bit better if we could travel in and out of it from level 1-20. As it stands, we are forced to be there and if you go through it a number of times with different alts..well...it gets dull. Even if the storyline is different all the time, the maps and look are pretty much the same. It gets to be a grind even from level 1-20.
I think this one-shot TF where the story begins and ends would be a nice option to have. Sadly issues come out at a slow rate so we may wait years for something epic to happen. Make these one-shots epic since they start and finish a major story in that TF.
This game seems to be in a bit of a rut. Countless missions where you are saving banks, robbing banks, stealing/saving art etc. I really don't feel like much of a super doing that stuff. What supers rob banks these days?! lol I don't know what it is but the devs seem reluctant to give us a lot of epic bang for our buck; we get the less exciting stuff and have to wait for the epic to happen...I guess.
I just hope we change direction here and soon. It doesn't seem like we will be so adding these different one-shot TFs seems like one good option.
Maybe we can add some other ideas to this as well? Some suggestions for invasions of someone OTHER than rikti or more interesting open missions etc...? -
So, this seems like a fun build but I have not dabbled with SR or KM. Can you guys post your thoughts on this? If someone can slap up a build that would be great too. I am not too sure which way to go on a build (not the best at making them). Any help would be much appreciated.
-
I agree I wouldn't want to pay extra for something like this but I assumed the devs would not employ a small separate team to do something like this due to budget. That is why I suggested $1. Having said that, maybe it is within their budget.
It would be nice to to a TF like this and have the story start and finish right then and there. I don't know why the devs have not realized you cannot do a multi-issue story arc when get 3 or 4 issues a year. -
Quote:There is NO NEED for the story to trump player choice. The Lore slot could mean the lore of our character and not of the game. Character customizations is a big selling feature of this game - let's keep on that path. There is nothing saying the devs can't slightly alter the story behind the lore slot before it is released. There actually IS a reason why the Incarnate pets are Praetorians. But it's more implied than outright stated, which very well could be counted as an error in judgment on the part of the story folks at PS:
The Well of the Furies has chosen Emperor Marcus Cole as its champion. Everything related to him and Praetoria has been granted additional power by the Well. The Well is focused on helping Cole to succeed in his plans of multiversal domination. Now, those characters who have begun their path as Incarnates also tap into part of the Well, albeit a much smaller part. Between the Well favoring Emperor Cole and the fact that our Incarnate characters are also entwined with Cole and Praetoria (what with having to hold off an invasion while engaging in counter-attacks), it does kinda make sense that if we were to try and focus the Well's power into beings, that those beings would likely take the form of the Praetorian enemies we've been fighting and whom are under the command of Emperor Cole.
Like I said, I don't think this is explicitly stated anywhere. But it's by no means a stretch, and would explain why an Eldritch mage can't summon forth a dragon, a ninja can't summon forth a bunch of tengu, or why VEATs can't summon forth Arachnos troops.
This is just one of those unfortunate cases where story trumps player choice. -
Well, I am kinda getting there. The Lore slot was just the latest frustration. I think the game has gone too heavy into Praetorian canon. It is overwhelming and we are beyond a 'saturation' point - IMO, of course.
So, I am sure the devs have all this planned out and will change course after a few more issues. This could take well over a year. I say let them do this.
My suggestion is to have a separate small team of devs make one-shot TFs. These would be not tied to any current CoH canon at all. They would be self-contained, original TFs in the mold of the ITF. Original maps, content, enemy factions etc. Maybe some innovation where you have choices and making those choices can send you some different ways along the TF; each choice causes you to branch off into a different direction (of course you could only do this so many times but it would be different). Have each TF cover something we have been asking for - one could have an underwater portion to it; another could be based in space with a space zone etc; another one could be based in Asgard or whatever - you get the idea.
These would, of course, cost the company a bit more to staff the extra people needed for this idea. I would suggest, to alleviate costs, they charge us $1 for each 'one-shot' TF they put out. They could launch one between each issue so we have a new One-Shot approx. every 4 months as well as an issue. That way we are getting a steady diet of new stuff
Anyway, just an idea. I think it came out of my feeling that this game is kinda stagnating. I think there are a lot of players here that may be tired of Praetoria and would like to see some completely original content that does not take several issues to complete. The story begins and ends with each One-Shot! -
More than happy to see Lore slot delayed if we can totally customize the look of our pet/sidekick. I don't mean just a little but from scratch just like we do with our toons in the costume creator. I'd be ok if we couldn't color powers etc but the look of the pet is key.
I would be fine if they delayed just the lore slot or all of i20 or the entire incarnate system. So far this new system is very so so to me. We are drowned in Praetoria crap. It has been steady and non-stop. Enough already. -
Quote:Yeah they could also change their canon/'lore' idea so we can fully customize the look of our pet. No thanks to what they're shoving our way at this time. They aren't Praetorians. You are using your connection to the well
to draw forth the essence of vanquished foes to aid you. It sounds similiar to the AVs you see in Mender Ramial's first mission. I think those mobs were in a Time's Echos group. Other "Time's Echos" show up in the Minotaur mission. Time's Echos look a lot like Reflections in the Shadow Shard and I wonder if they are related in anyway. Those two groups might just be using the same aura.
So hopfully I get to vanquish non praetorian foes in the future and summon them to do stuff for me. I really hope my Lore pet doesn't have to use that aura the Reflection do.
I hope they delay the Lore slot and give us what we are asking for. -
Quote:I am, honestly, very disappointed with the Lore slot. I cannot believe they didn't make your sidekick fully customizable. This game's biggest strength is the customization. To be able to have full control over your sidekick's appearance would have been a huge achievement for this game. It may have been the best thing since i12.Like we got other options for PPP pets for people who didn't like the blatant Arachnos concept?
If there was only time to create one pet per tree, it should have been generic. If they want non-generic pets but are concerned about balance, they can create one pet per tree with different skins. Someone in another thread suggested using something similar to the Halloween costume tech. It's quick and dirty but it's better than everybody having a Praetorian following them around.
As it stands, i20 is looking somewhat questionable. A VERY heavy focus on Praetoria as of late has many players feeling fed up with the updates. Enough already. I really think the devs are losing touch with the playerbase and the game will suffer for it in the end. -
I find a lot of the recent updates kinda boring. We are just getting dumped on with Praetoria content. Too much. It isn't so exciting to begin with.
The game, in general, has too many non-epic feeling missions and arcs. There is very little epic in this game.
The developing story arcs take so long that people lose interest. Do some epic ones in one issue.
Yeah, I really hope the devs take a read of this. P-Town is kinda dull. I have a tough time taking a lowbie through there. -
Flooding with more Praetorian content. Yay. <---- sarcasm!
I really hope there are significant additions made to the costume creator. We were teased with the IDF suit months ago and they haven't put it out.
Honestly, the theme of this game over the last several issues is pretty...well...not my thing. I think someone said it before - let there be diversification! -
Seems neat and interesting. Hopefully it isn't another dumping of Praetorian content and something new and original with actual costumed supers and all that.
I also REALLY hope they have original mission maps involved. That would be the big bonus. -
Quote:This.I'm double booked but I'll try and be there for some of it.
However, it's a shame it's another trial set in Praetoria. Hopefully there'll be others set in Primal with something a bit more epic than guard towers to fight. :P
From what I have seen, the theme/canon/objectives of i20 have been disappointing (from what has been see - I realize this is only PART of i20). There is way too much focus on Praetoria. Way too much. I hope there are plans to diversify future content.
