Quote:It's been proven time and time again that no matter how valid your opinion is on these forums, there will be people who will act like it's not or it's not important. Typically it's the same people every time, and typically they are just blind supporters of anything the devs do... See: Sheeple.Right because god forbid I hold a company I'm paying to the agreements and promises they make, that's just unthinkable and self entitled.
They had to postpone - ok fine, it happens... but they should have found some way to make it up to the player base. That's what you do when you have a mess up on your end, you fix it and make it up to those who were badly affected. Down this morning for matinence, irritating but - ok, at least it wasn't normal playing hours for most. Now again - less then twelve hours later... again, because they are having problems on THEIR end. I don't think it's wrong to expect the Devs to man up, own the problem and make restitution.
Self entitled in my opinion is taking my money, then showing me no respect by constantly not following through on promises without even an effort to make it up. Seems to me the ones who feel entitled are the Devs, entitled to OUR money. -

Doncha know, Posi is the best troll in CoH.

Right, to me it has nothing to do with the downtime itselt... This is not the first time stuff like this has happened, see: PvP and SG bases for the past few years.
-
Take it as a sign that the devs give a crap about keeping their players in the loop. Moreover, it's a respect thing, we pay them monthly for a service, I expect them to let us know what they are doing to the service when it's not available. I don't think it's that hard to understand.
-
Quote:Right because it takes more than 30 seconds to write, "It's for an emergency bug fix," or "It's for emergency stability fixes."Patience people. They may have had to address something quickly and wanted to minimize downtime so we can get back as fast as possible. I'd rather that than them wasting time explaining.
I'd rather the community mods take 30 seconds out of the time fixing it (Since the mods aren't the ones fixing it anyways) to tell us what the general problem is, as opposed to saying nothing. -
I don't care that the servers are down, I do care about the lack of respect towards players in giving us zero clue as to what the emergency is... if it's an exploit or bug fix, tell us that, you don't have to say what it is EXACTLY, but we are left in the dark right now.
If maintenance needs to be done it needs to be done, I'm not disputing that, it's the fact that we have no real way of knowing whether it was "necessary" since we have no official statement on what is actually being done.
Also sure, they don't have to do 2xp weekend but when they announce it I expect to be getting the most out of it, and today I haven't. Also if they didn't have such bad sub numbers they wouldn't need to rely on promotional things like free weeks and 2xp weekends to get people to keep playing, which is directly related to things like this. -
I like how you have taken servers down TWICE on 2xp friday and not given as an actual reason as to why.
-
Glancing at what made it into the beta so far, I'd say that was another dev conspiracy to keep us guessing for another 2 months of sub money.

Leveling a toon to level 4 makes me feel committed to a toon and I already have a bunch of things to work on...
All joking aside if you can get people to street sweep or get their toon to level 4 somehow (Not difficult by any stretch of the imagination) I think it could be pretty sweet. -
lol, thanks for bringing so much attention to this thread. Despite the fact that it's just back and forth drama, it brings attention to it and draws people in, so go ahead and continue to argue. I will sit back and continue to watch the channel grow and watch KBs and other arena events become a mainstay again.
Thanks for the support, channel is still open and growing.
Also the channel is up to 170 members, pretty much all from Freedom, still growing. just sayin. -
Yeah I didn't personally participate but I was listening to feedback on it and listening in vent and throwing the occasional off color commentary, seemed like almost everybody had fun with it, definitely worth trying again in the future... If I had to guestimate probably 25-30 people showed up and did it.

Quote:Hey man you're entitled to what you want to think but there are plenty of us who don't want to spend the last few months a lot of us are going to be on this game (New games coming out that people are planning to move to or just quitting soon, not everyone but a good majority of the PvP community that's left.) grinding boring PvE content or sitting around in zone basecamping or spending all day getting kicks trolling or whatever. The way I feel and other people I talk to feel is if we're going to be subbed for one reason or another, we want to do at least enjoyable things. That's not going to happen with a completely divided community. You don't have to come on board but I know a lot of people that are interested.Quality PvP is impossible because you're playing City of Heroes. It will never be competitive; it's only enduring quality is allowing you to get laughs pub-stomping, but most people are too bad for that anyway.
It's not worth the time. Go make a bagel.
I realize that was a pure troll comment, and I was definitely expecting them, but the notion that it's a waste of time is something that talking to other remaining PvPers has led me to think otherwise. -
I know PvP is kind of looked down upon by most of the PvE community but it would be cool if you could list this new channel under a PvP sub-category, we are using it as a community to rally remaining Freedom PvPers to squeeze what's left out of PvP, it's a growing channel and what not, and it's public... Refer to my other thread on the Freedom boards for extended info
channel is called "Freedom PvP 2011"
Thanks. -
Quote:I'm gonna PANCAKE your PANCAKE with my PANCAKE, PANCAKE!Too bring up all drama but at the same time pretty much a fact from what Ive seen since Im in both channels, BMT may have less ppl in it at one time of the day/nite but it get PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE done like no joke. Champion United has alot more ppl in it at any time of the day/nite but thats jus becuz when it was first formed a few years ago all those mods blinded invited mass ppl and the ppl that clicked accept jus stayed in it. But I will say Champion United does have alot more talking going on in it and a less I guess one word to use would be " serious " attuide around its chat windows.
just saying -
You would have to seriously consider banning powers that can easily abuse KB, not whole power sets but those powers in particular, (Power Push, Force Bolt... anything that does over mag 9 KB... *cough* tk blast)
-
I encourage people to do this, if for nothing else then the prospect of prizes and maybe having some fun times and meeting those elusive PvPers who are decent people
. I don't know if I will do it or not but I can see there's good times to be had here so go for it if you can make it.
-
I realize I posted this in 2 places but not everyone reads arena boards, but yeah, if you're interested let me know or ask around Freedom AC and such places and someone will invite you.

Hi, I know a lot of you probably don't recognize me but I have recently taken a pretty vested interest in getting some quality PvP going on in Arena on Freedom, and have recently created a central channel for it since the reality is AC is barely used for anything besides drama and trash talk. "Freedom PvP 2011" is a place a lot of us have agreed will be a good place for the remaining PvPers in the game, particularly on Freedom to start gathering together to make the best out of what's left, we have plans to do various arena events, including the already started nightly Kickballs.
We are hoping to get some other stuff going, that is more competitive, including hopefully sometime after i21 getting a full league started. I'm sure you are also asking how one person plans to do this... Well I don't know, but I do know that we have plenty of people willing to help out from the PvP community.
People more of you may recognize that are currently supporting this, @Teh Artic, @PF?, @Midnight Havoc, and some others that I can't remember, as well as a good supporting cast of people who are not "vets" but are interested in making this happen.
Currently we are using an anti-exclusivity policy in the channel, it's public and any PvPers are welcome to join, or anyone who is interested in PvP.
Only rules/guidelines of the channel are: Keep drama out of it as much as possible. I know that trash talk and such things are part of PvP, but if it becomes drama/trolling/griefing/etc. all people involved will likely be silenced and be asked to take it to tells. So far so good, have over 120 members mostly from Freedom, if you want in, send a tell to @TheKatalyst or join through the channel search, or ask around on Freedom there's other mods who will be happy to invite you.
Sorry for that huge wall of text but I wanted to make sure I covered everything. Thanks!
PS: We are doing this now in the hopes that i21 will bring back some people who would also be interested in this along side the non-vet people. -
tl;dr
New channel for Freedom PvP events "Freedom PvP 2011" have good support for it, growing numbers and already have started doing events. Ask @TheKatalyst or ask around in AC as there are other mods who are cool people who will invite you, or you can join through channel searching. -

I'm under the train of thought that whatever you have fun with in this game is what you should do, doesn't matter what other people think. If you like fiteklub, more power to you, it was certainly more popular than ranged arena type stuff for a good while so clearly there's something there.
To clarify I don't personally think it looks that fun but I've also never really tried it hardcore like some of these guys who do it, so y'know... don't knock it till you try it kind of thing. -
Quote:I like how all PvPers are characterized as being teenagers or immature or trolls or griefers or all of the above. Have you ever heard of "generalizing?" Just because a few PvPers are not so nice doesn't make us all bad people or whatever way you want to spin it, there are plenty of us that want this game to be what it can be, and PvPers believe that a good way to do that is put more emphasis on PvP, or at least not let it sit around and not get touched issue after issue. People also need to understand that plenty of us are still bitter about i13 and the neglect of PvP since then. But my point is that labeling all PvPers as bad members of the community is just wrong, and also saying that PvP doesn't matter because we are a minority is wrong, we still pay 15 a month to do what we want, which happens to be PvP.Is the Arena, Bloody Bay, Siren's Call, Warburg, and Recluse's Victory not enough zones for a dead aspect of the game? Why the Shadow Shard?
If the PvP community was more robust (and not just an extremely vocal few) I could understand the want/need for a new PvP zone - maybe a PvP off-shoot of the Shadow Shard - but not taking an existing zone and make it PvP so a few teenagers can get their rocks off.
/end rant
That said, I don't think a Shadow Shard clone would be the best option for a 50 PvP zone, but I do feel pretty strongly about adding more 50 PvP content, especially some kind of new and improved FFA zone. -
Yup, got quite a few people in it already, a good mix of both Arena and Zone PvPers, trying to keep drama out of it as much as possible to help promote future PvP events on Freedom (Primarily in the Arena). So if you are interested in promoting or joining things like that, it's public and anyone is welcome so long as they are interested in PvP. We decided bringing a fresh channel for everyone to the table was better than reviving dead PvP channels that people forgot existed. So anyways yeah, join up or ask around for an invite if you are interested, been running Kickballs every night on Freedom for the past couple weeks.
