You can only have one patron, If you start sirocco's story arc, you cannot later play Mako's ark....

But after you have sufficiently progressed along whichever arc you chose, and earn the patron badge, You can choose from ANY of the patrons' pool powers. (This was not always the case - but was changed to this some time ago)

You can select Mako's powers for build 1, and Scirocco's for your second build. It's just the story arcs/badge that you cannot switch.

Yeah, sadly, no unlockables for any Arachnos weapons.

Although I've always felt that there are at least two mace models already in game that could thematically support the various things that the "Arachnos Mace"s do. The tech mace, and that over-sized bug-zapper (Crop) that Dominatrix's underlings have.

And there seems to be almost no reason to restrict most of the assault rifle unlocks from the Soldier VEATs...

huh... then they must have changed it at some point, because I'm sure that only the boss wolves used to be the only ones that counted.
EDIT: that also means that I wasted 45 minutes last month only killing the bosses around the bog and graveyards... poop.

I think the better one is uppercase " i " and lowercase " L "... the default fonts in CoH have those work better than with 1, I believe.

But then you could run into even more typing problems than some have expressed with the period at the end (Lessened by the clicking on names in the chatbox thing).

    Personally, I have a number of ways to create unique names that still have the same feel as my original (but already taken) name-of-choice;

    http://dictionary.reference.com/
If you are using english words, look them up here. Specifically, scroll down to the "Origin" section. A good source for alternate spellings, try clicking on any prefixes/suffixes to look for alternate spellings of those. Although sometimes the meaning may change slightly, so be careful.
-"Catastrophe" could become "cathstrophe" or "Katastrepto"
At least one of those may tweak the nerves of some more devout wordophiles, but if it appeals to you, gets by the wall of taken names, and is somewhat close to what your original choice was; run with it.

    http://thesaurus.reference.com/
Yeah, most of these are going to be sections of the same site. If the synonyms provided don't pan out in terms of availability (It's likely that most synonyms of 'fire', or 'burn', have already been claimed, for example), click on one, and then at the top of the page hit the dictionary tab, and use the previous method with the synonym of your original word.
-"Catastrophe" could become "Cataclysm", or going back to the dictionary method - "Kataklysmos"
Tip; Be sure to look under the correct definition for your synonyms - if you wished your name (catastrophe) to convey more of a "mass destruction" feel, Mischance from "calamity; unhappy conclusion", may not convey the same thing.
Also, unless going back to the dictionary/origin method, avoid using common words - only because "Armageddon", for example, is likely already taken (but you never know).

    http://dictionary.reference.com/translate
Any old language translator will do. When in doubt - translate it into another language. Not always fool-proof, but try to go for the languages that use (most of the) the same alphabet.
-"Catastrophe" was translated to "Catástrofe" (spanish) or "Katastrofeøvelse" (Norwegian)...

    http://wordsmith.org/anagram/advanced.html
I usually use this one more as a last resort of the four, as all the original meaning of the name is usually lost. But sometimes you find gems, and alter the rest of the character to reflect the new name. For settings when using this tool, I'd generally recommend no more than 3 words. Although I like to start with one, and go from there.
-"Catastrophe" becomes "Aptest Roach" or "Chaos Tar Pet" (If Catastrophe was going to be a Fire/therm corruptor, you might consider changing to a fire/dark corruptor if you decided on "Chaos Tar Pet")

    And combine any and all of the above 4 for interesting results. My personal favorite was getting "Kata De-Liquese" out of "Catastrophe";
    -Synonym of Catastrophe > meltdown
-Hmm... wasn't part of the meaning for the prefix 'Cata-', "down"?... ok, and go with alternate spelling...
    -Kata-Melt? no... doesn't sound right.
    -Synonym of Melt > deliquesce
-Katadeliquesce? No... not quite... what about giving it a slightly french-sounding spin?
    -"Kata De-Liquesce" ... perfect!

Also - just because of the sheer awesome if you need inspiration; Seventh Sanctum. Heck, they have 3 versions of name generators dedicated to superhero/villain names.
  8. Short answer? yes.

    Long answer: yes - but..

I only found it a bit constricting in that it seems there are really only a set number of buttons that the game detects as chords (keys you press and hold, then press another key for a different result than the second key pressed alone, Ctrl+1, for example)

I could not find a way to define new chords (set a couple buttons on my game pad to them, and I increase the overall actions I can perform with the pad.) So I had to set up and use an external program that could pick up button presses and send a different signal to the computer (pressing button 9 would be the same as pressing Ctrl).

In the end I had it set up so that buttons 9 (select) and 10 (start) were bound through an external program to Ctrl and Alt, respectively. Buttons 1-6 fired off the respective powers in that tray slot (9&10, being ctrl and alt allowed for the use of multiple trays). 7 and 8 combined with various ctrl and alt combos used inspirations. Left joy stick was forward, strafing and backwards. Right joystick was jumping, turning and down (I used flight). And the control pad had a couple different targeting commands, follow, and auto run.

    Mars Symbol?

    [ QUOTE ]
I know these symbols also stand in for male and female, but its not like its going to open up the floodgates for strange gender-bending characters like "Man-Woman" or "Female-Man" if they did allow them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
And considering if you've bought the science booster, you can now change your gender at will... seems even more odd.
  10. and you can always try 'ye olde shivan run', works wonders.... combine it with a nuke or three and you're laughing.

On my corr that can't take a punch at all - I loaded up on all four when I had to take on black scorpion... it was a teensy bit of overkill.

I was playing nice earlier. Here's the deal. I don't like teaming. So when I do it is for a specific reason. If I feel the team will not help me accomplish whatever goal I'm going for, then I will quit. I won't give notice or anything. I'll just quit the team. I personally don't care if it is a PuG radio team or a task force. If I don't think the team directly benefits me in the way I want, then I'll just leave.

Do you know why I will do it that way?

Simple, because I see teams as nothing more than fillers to use as I see fit. When they are no longer useful, I leave. That simple. If the leader has a problem and demands an answer, I'll let him/her know. But I won't be nice about it. I will be extremely blunt and critical.

But Munki, why be so mean? Simple, because I play this game so I can have fun. As long as I'm not breaking any rules, I don't give a crap about anybody else. If somebody's day is worse off because they ran across me, I don't care. I see all of yall as nothing more than fillers on the way to accomplish my goals.

edit: The people that feel they deserve some sort of explanation are self obsessed losers. That simple.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Quitting without a word on a normal PuG I can deal with. It might annoy me because I consider it impolite, but it doesn't cripple the team.

But quitting a bloody TASK FORCE because the team no longer "benefits you in the way you want"? I'm sorry, but that's nothing short of being a huge dick. It might surprise you, but you can't just recruit new people during a TF. A person quitting can be crippling when you're already at a Task Force's minimum requirements. Nothing's lovelier than someone quitting on you in a six-member Moonfire Task Force that's already pushing the team's limits. But you know what? I didn't mind because at least that person had the courtesy to say she'll be gone because her boss called.

I'm not telling you to be selfish. Hell, not like I need to, selfish people stick to themselves, so it's not like I usually have to deal with them. But if you join TFs just to quit because the team doesn't cater to your every whim, you're not just being selfish, you're being a huge bloody [censored].

    [/ QUOTE ]
Unless your every whim is "Please, please, for the 6th time, please stop using dimension shift on every other mob!", or something... :P

Lately I've taken to adding "blind invites may result in blind quits" in my lft comments; And even then, if the team is at least half-way decent or has a couple other worthwhile people on it, I'll excuse myself politely, and leave after the next mish.

I think I've only quit (in recent memory) without saying anything twice. First one was a fairly demanding farm, and 6 of the other team members were below lvl 10, and didn't contribute much other than faceplanting; I quit after the second team-wipe. The other was a blind invite to what turned out to be a bubble farm.

EDIT: also, to the OP, around what time are you playing? Late at night people will often log off to go to sleep, in the morning, they may be off to work/school... Although it would still be nice of them to send a short message, just a "sorry, gtg." would be better than nothing.
  12. Kinda makes me wish that the halos were purchasable recipes that could be sold on the market... would they get expensive and rare further away from the winter event? sure... but you could get them.

Purchace the recipe from contact, 1/2 the current required candy canes, Craft the recipe at any table, the other half of the current candy cane cost.

    [ QUOTE ]
oh nevermind I see. It's still lame then .... oh well.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not really; considering updating your account with the cdkey of a different CoH release still grants you the free month ($15 value), plus whatever came with that release. Personally, I'm quite fond of the Justice set, and the sinister glove and boot options. And for the early game (before you can visit Ouroboros), the VIP teleporter is handy for getting around (depending where you need to go), and with a tailor in there - no more trekking to Steel or IP.
Check the Wiki for more info.

Considering item packs are usually $10 on their own, it's a fairly decent deal to go with the full editions.

    Hellion Bosses

Badging is the main reason why I like the hazard zones blue side. Need to "arrest" a lot of somethig? they probably exist in large numbers in the hazard zones!

Although I seem to remember igneous bosses being a little more... abundant... before the revamp... or at least they were the only ones that had a small fire patch while 'hidden' in the ground... I could be wrong though.

    Overseer Badge

Also - if your primary mitigation is from defense; good luck getting it (on your own) before you are a level where they start spawning yellow to you. The eyeballs are crazy accurate and pack a mean punch.

I think this is one of the few cases where it's harder for heroes to get something than villains.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Sorry if this is incredibly noobish question but...I am, factually, a noob here. I've been going to the City of Heroes wikia for all other questions thus far (hence how I figured out the whole security level thing) but I couldn't find anything to explain the problem I am experiencing. Can trial account users not access zones? Do I need to be in a group?

    Thanks in advance for your patience with me. ^_^;

Our community is generally a helpful bunch to newbs if they are willing to ask questions and learn. Welcome to our game - hope you enjoy your stay.

I figure those guards, even if they are taking advantage of our law-abiding supers, are at least semi-effective in their job. Unlike those Vanguard Security Officers. They keep asking me to step over to them so they can check my clearance - but I can just breeze right by them and they don't even TRY to stop me. I really don't see what's keeping all the lower-leveled characters out of the RWZ... or villains for that matter. "Step over here, Lord Nemesis. I need to check your clearance. Or... Just go right on through - not like I'm going to stop you."

    My idea is as follows;

1: Remove all enemy instagib from the AE building area.
2: Rework Rikti Dropship routes so that they go through the AE buildings. (if desired, re-design the buildings to include circular dropship-sized war-wall type shields)
3: Initiate Rikti invasion weekends as desired.

    5: profit!

Although there is little information - Praetoria seems to only be where the magic happens, and if you switch sides there, you get to leave Praetoria, and go to the other side. (previously villain-only ATs freely roaming about Paragon City)

Plus; we don't even know if there ARE Praetorian versions of the four patrons... I think it's been said in the past that Marcus Cole may have killed Stefan Richter at the Well of the Furies in the Praetorian universe. I think the only known villain group that is good on the other side of the portal is the Carnival of shadows (known as the Carnival of Light).

Although we don't yet have all the details - I'm guessing Tyrant (Emperor Cole?) rules Praetoria much like recluse rules the islands - but instead of a free-for-all of villainy and scum, he's developed a paradise of a (city? state? country? world?), where, despite their evil war-mongering ways, the Preatorian Arch Villains (by our standards) are the heroes (by theirs).

I'd wager that the direction your moral compass points will have a lot to do with whether you challenge the authority of the ruling body, throwing the universe into a civil war.
Or suppress rebel movements, keeping the peace - even if it means keeping the jerks in their position of power.

  23. For not winning any costume contest I've been in with it; I have this one costume on my scrapper that, in the past 10 teams I've bean on, at least 2 people on each team have complimented my costume, and I often get tells from people passing by that they REALLY like it. These people need to host more contests on triumph. :P

But I'm not really complaining; many of the top 3 that I've seen recently have been fairly good... perhaps not always to my tastes, but then some people like rap 'music', and I wish to destroy that particular form of artistic expression with a huge explosion whenever I hear it.

By far, the best costume contest winner I've ever seen was dressed in black (or really dark blue) tights with the Emblem Blend pattern on the chest (in a brighter colour) and then a circular chest detail that was the same dark colour. the character's name had something to do with eclipses (if not simply "Eclipse"). He beat me for 3rd place. -That- I didn't mind loosing to; it was a fairly simple costume, but very well done (was shortly after those 8 or so "emblem" patterns were released).

[/ QUOTE ]Well, It's an improvement - You'd be hitting more often, and harder. Be warned that some might nitpick about some things like taking the entire Super Speed pool, when all you really need is Hasten and Super Speed (and they likely have a number of points in terms of optimization). But if you're happy with them, run with it.

That said, I'd agree with swapping the two +tohit enhancements in Buildup and Aim with two more recharge reductions each. Considering you have all of your attack powers slotted with two lvl50 accuracy SOs, you should be naturally be hitting 95%(max) of the time against most targets anyway.

Thanks for the help everyone, the ctrl+a trick did indeed work, I think I had a few un-selectable hard returns from when I was using it to keep track of which praetorians I still needed. Although, I've had further issues with the character count after typing out my bio. But I'm just happy to be able to properly space it out again that I can deal with a few missing characters.
