  1. I made it through the Gone With the Wind Sequel with shall Not Be Named. And I've sneered at the Pern books now being penned by Anne McCaffrey's son (I'm just not interested in his interpretation of his mother's ground-breaking works.)

And I threw a Pride and Prejudice sequel across the room when it was revealed that Elizabeth was a medium. I get a little more lenient about public-domain characters, but I still think for all of the successes, like, say, the Mary Russell books by Laurie R. King, featuring Sherlock Holmes, there are five more which results in B having to duck as throw the novel around and/or yell at it.

I want to feel the author is being true to the original character, even if they're placing them in really odd situations, not like they just used the popular name to trick the reader while they, the author, to write something completely unrelated. If I've invested time in a book or series, it's because the original author managed to create a character in a world which interested me, which held my attention. It's [u]their[u] vision I care about. Planned multiple authors, like in the Ring of Fire world by Eric Flint, don't bother me. That's a deliberate, shared vision.

I also have strong opinions about deus ex machina endings. If it's a cop-out and not just a plot device, I'll snarl at that, too.
  2. Any beacon we've earned will be placed tonight.

We don't have beacons to all of the zones yet, however, simply because I got distracted by villains on Infinity and never played a high-level hero here and got the beacons. And now the team is going, and earning them.
  3. I understand the logic behind that a bit more, but my concerns are still that even with a draft, the finisher is bringing and substracting things and can only guess the intent of the original author. Of course, with the Wheel of Time, I long ago reached the point where I thought it needed to be put down, not put to bed. Since I think its garbage, I don't care as much if it continues to be garbage, even if the stench is slightly different.
  4. I'll see that the beacon is placed tonight.
  5. My professors in college widely viewed The Hobbit as being a version of Beowulf.

I get tired of the post-mortum publication of an author's work, too, as in this case and what happened with Marion Zimmer Bradley's work. In MZB's case, all of the "MZB's Blah Blah Blah of Avalon, by Diana Paxton," should just read "Glorified fanfic!"
  6. My husband is the reason I don't post on Justice very often. It's bad enough he tells me what he's posting before he posts it, I don't need to read it. Especially since he usually has a [censored]-eating grin on his face as he runs it past me.

There's only so much punnage/poop talk I can take.
  7. From the Adventure Log of Countess Clink Clank

Tonight was an evening of great triumphs! We completed our quest for the hero Synapse, fighting many of the clanks. We even fought a great one, Babbage, with assistance from the heroes of Paragon, before going on to beat the "Clockwork King" himself. "King" indeed, and I do not approve of his use of clockwork!

I then discovered a psychic gathering of heroes, a collective know as "Guardian." With their assistance, I was able to rally troops to take down the devilfish Lusca herself! For the rest of the evening, we were joined by the heroine AlphaWave, as we began the process to save the township of Croatoa from its hauntings!

And, I discovered Civil Twilight holds a most uncivil grudge over my winning the Parisian Clockwork Cake Competition all of those years ago.

    Happy Monday....

Nonsense, no need to settle. You bring the nachos, and I'll make the mudslides, and while visiting you can finally make the villain you've been wanting to make and we can team you to level 15 range, for your first strike force.
  9. Textilian

    Happy Monday....

I'm going to stop at the store on the way home and get some ice cream, oreos, and either Irish Cream or Godiva liquor and make mudslidesc drinks before logging onto the game.
  10. Tonight we finish the Synapse TF at top speed before picking up Patches and try and get enough teams going to kill Lusca. Then we'll save the Fortune Teller and start up in Croatoa if we have the time.

    Happy Monday....

One more day before I go see Fabergie Eggs in San Fran with a stop at the fabric shop on the way back!

(Do I even need to mention the stop at the fabric shop anymore? Truthfully, there's ALWAYS a stop at the fabric shop when I'm out and about)

    Happy Monday....

    Mmm, Friday. Yay, Friday!

    Happy Monday....

I had to ask the great oracle google what Barbarella was.
  14. I hereby declare Thursday night a non-guild night!

    (Are you impressed?)

We'll finish the Synapse TF on Tuesday, grab Gol, and kill Lusca, maybe save the Fortune Teller.

Death to the octopus at 7 pm PST 2/17/09!

    Happy Monday....

Mr. Sins builds my computers for me, because it gives him more pleasure than it would ever give me. In exchange, I make him bowling shirts.
  16. Textilian

    Happy Monday....

So this is what I'd use on my bowling shirt.

(by the by, I'm aware of real world stuff, but use the boards for my light and fluffy place. It's like angel food cake for the brain)
  17. From the Adventure Diary of Countess Clink Clank

Today we started a special series of missions from the hero Synapse. Already there seems to be more purpose involved than the similar series we did for Positron. Patches was unable to join us, doubtless off pursuing his- you know, I don't know what Patches does in his free time. All of these years, and perhaps Aluriel is the only one to have any inkling.

    ---

    OOC Stuff:

When shall we continue the task force? As it is, we're locked into it, Patches is locked out, and Lotus, who's locked in, can't make it on Thursday. We're also level restricted to level 20.

Here are the options as I see them:

-Take Thursday off. Finish TF on Tuesday, then kill Lusca and also Rescue the Fortune Teller. Dive back into everything the Thursday after, with Croatoa and Striga and such.

-Finish TF without Lotus (not in favor of this option, personally)

-Hunts. We could hunt skulls or hellions or embalmed in Perez. We could kill Lusca. But that still leaves Gol out since the rest of us are locked into the TF.

I'm open to discussion, but my personal preference is to resume next Tuesday, and finish up as quickly as we can to pick up Gol again.

    Happy Monday....

Well, I'm up and going home sick. I got done that which won't wait, and everything else will still be there tomorrow. It will always be there tomorrow.

Please send soup and also buttons.
  19. Textilian

    Happy Monday....

Mmm, soup. I could get off the bus at the store, get stuff for soup, make the soup and then take a nap.
  20. Textilian

    Happy Monday....

Have a cold. At work anyway. Hoping to go home at lunch. Trying to sell armchair on Craig's List, getting tired of, "Is it free?" when I have it listed for "$20 firm."

    I feel all grumpy today.
  21. Textilian

    Happy Monday....

You are so awesome, with your sewing talents and built-in rotary cutter.

So why'd you learn to sew?
  22. Textilian

    Happy Monday....

So before the great forumn hamster debacle of yesterday, Raiden mentioned he was using the pin-up buttons on a short sleeved shirt. I want to know more. Raiden, are you making a new shirt or just replacing the buttons on an exisiting shirt, and where did you buy yours?
  23. Fine. Have fun without us.

    See if I care!
