It sounds like you may be using the background downloader.

Stop the download.

Open the NCSoft Launcher.

Click once on City of Heroes.

Click Update.



If it is still going slow then it sounds like your ISP is throttling traffic on the Akamai network. My ISP does this and I can't even get 50 Kb/Sec for downloads. If I take my rig to work I get close to a steady 900 KB/sec.

The Justice server will never survive that one alone.

Possibly by using the Helper and Help Me tags.

When the system was introduced, existing characters were given the option to select Helper, Help Me or Nothing.

I think new characters get to set the same option. It's set per character. Helper is a gold color and Help Me is a purple color.

Regarding being able to respec your primary and secondary:

I was just scanning Von Krieger's Coffee Chat threads.

Dug up a few things from some of Von Krieger's recaps of the Coffee Chats. I was trying to find where the comment from Posi about Powerset respecs was but had no luck.

Posi doesn't want to add the Echoes of DA and Galaxy to villain Ouro. He suggests that badging Rogues change alignment one more to Hero to get the badges.

Personal Player Housing is a possibility, Posi has written designs for it 3-4 times. It just has to get on the design schedule.

Zwill: "Player Housing is like one of the biggest drains on server resources in existence."

They won't allow gifting of paragon points until their customer service department is satisfied that it can't be taken advantage of.

Posi: "We can't do it unfortunately. We know not everyone will use them. But if you have friends come in and they like go on Freedom and you have nothing on Freedom you can move over."

Zwill says we cannot trade the tokens in for their equivalent PP value.

I'm sure there are more things out there, these are just some of the ones that caught my eye while scanning through them. Some stood out since they come pretty close to answering some Suggestions and Ideas posted here recently.

I think Positron's comment about Powerset Respecs was during a uStream chat or something similar. You might want to search Von Krieger's posts in City Life from around August 2011 through December 2011. That still may get a bunch of hits.

There was no HeroCon in 2011 (only a Bay Area M&G held in San Francisco at Elephant and Castle) and 2012 brought us the first Freedom Player Summit.

I didn't see the Twitch.TV with the vehicle comments so can't help there by providing a date.

I'm with DarkGob, Forbin and Ironblade on this.

I got the same interpretation that they did.

Had DarkGob not responded with such a full list I was prepared to start a similar response.

One of the things he did leave off was the limited ability to post on the forums. Under the initial plan that was presented before Freedom launched free and premium accounts would have had 0 posting priveleges.

You can thank the forum regulars for speaking up and pointing out specific forum sections that would be extremely beneficial for free players to post in such as Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs and this one (Player Questions).

I know that I saw posts from DarkGob, Forbin and Ironblade supporting the idea of allowing limited posting priveleges and I know I supported the idea as well, so we are 4 of the people that you can thank for helping change Paragon Studios plans in that regard.

So yes, while you may not get email notifications about a thread while you are premium you can at least say so on this forum section. If forum posters hadn't fought to get that access for you we'd only hear about your complaints in game, and then only depending on your level of access to various chat channels.

There are times I wonder if we made a mistake in getting them to change their plans, but most times I think we did a good thing.

EDIT: And you may or may not notice that I'm still not putting my answer to your original question in my posts. You still really don't want to hear my answer.

They will sometimes push a fix for a particular issue to the Test server with it running basically the same code as the Live server in order to get the best test scenario.

Glad you got it working. I'll file the ScanSoft info for future use.

I had wondered about it but thoiught surely I'd seen it in the HJT from someone that wasn't having issues.

Sorry I didn't think to mention trying it.
