Remember, this is just ONE of his ELEVEN level 50 characters. I'm not sure how many non-50's Uber has, but I suspect it is more than one.
I'm also fairly sure that he's not just sitting around playing the same small handful of characters all the time. He can swap to whichever character is needed most for particular activities are being run or whichever one he needs the rewards most from what particular activities are being run.
Plus all of the time he spends testing on Beta and posting on the forums.
I'm not sure when he finds time to hold down a full-time job. -
Quote:What.in the last 2 weeks I have started 21 threads on all boards, that is 1.5 a day
13 on this board, less than 1 a day
I suppose one could consider 1 thread a day to be a lot of threads.
I suspect however, that my threads are noticeable and interesting. They get a lot of responses and stay visible due to that.
People on Justice tell me it doesn't count unless I'm the one that makes the post. -

The /auctionhouse or /ah command was something I earned as a Veteran Reward for 84 months (7 years) of loyalty to the game, well before Freedom was launched.
Now you want them to implement charging me a fee for a reward I've already earned?
That's effectively taking away the incentive to use the "perk" I was given for being loyal to the game and supporting the game for 84 months (7 years) of subscription. The perk being that I have full access to the market without having to traipse across at least one zone and possibly more and then back to what I was doing?
You must be out of your Nether-loving mind to think this is even remotely a good idea. -
Quote:/auctionhouse is NOT new with Freedom. It was part of the old Veteran Rewards program and was one of the rewards for 84 months along with the badge, 1 Free Character Slot, 7 Free Reward Merits and the ability to change the colors of your title.
Quote:/auctionhouse is actually new with Freedom and is a fairly high tier Paragon Rewards perk, I believe.
Another command that I think is unlocked at the same time is /vault, which gives you instant, remote access to your security vault.
/vault is NOT new with Freedom. It was part of the old Veteran Rewards program and was the reward for 87 months along with the badge.
With the launch of Freedom, some of the old Veteran Rewards became available to those that didn't meet the old VR requirements. Both of those commands are available in Tier 8. -

Further tip for future reference:
Rent a car through Hotwire using the Hot Rates. As soon as you can. Sure, you have to pay up front, but it's worth it.
I got a Full Size car (Dodge Charger) for 3 days for under $80 counting the taxes. Last trip is was under $70 for the three days rental on a Full Size car.
It will be a car from one of 7 major Car Rental agencies: Alamo, Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, Dollar, National or Thrifty.
Filling up was a bit under $20 and that was after the trip to Stanford Shopping Center Friday, Hotel, Holder's Country Inn, Hotel, Holder's Country Inn, Airport (dropping off first person), fill up, drive around, airport. At the California gas prices, that's pretty decent getting it filled for less than $20 after that much driving. Foot got heavy on accelerator at times also (not driving economically). -
-
Here's my summary beginning with my arrival at airport.
Found @artphobia and dragged him along with me.
Found @dramen and dragged him along with me.
Rental car counter for paperwork, then to garage for car.
Attendant: "I have two full size cars available. I have a Dodge Charger and "
Me: "I'll take it."
Attendant: "But I also have a "
Me: "I'll take the Charger"
Caught up with @Red_Gren @Red Valkyrja and @Bourke for lunch, happy TJ, met Rangle and Impish Kat, happier TJ, Fred's Steak Sandwich in mah belly, happiest TJ.
Wonderful weather, women in skimpy outfits walking past, very happy D.O.M. TJ.
Wandered Stanford Shopping Center, found Chocolate shop with Austrian chocolate (or something like that), happy Impish Kat.
Game Night. Wandering room, chatting with players and devs alike, good times. Early registration announced, I'm ecstatic. Good cigars on patio with Zwifflepuffenstuff and Dramen (thanks again Dramen).
Bed.
Bacon Waffles at Holder's Country Inn with a lot of friends and a side order of bacon. Heavenly.
More players, more devs, panels. Good times.
Drinks. Mmmmm.
Meal. Mmmmm. Black Pebble, Freitag and Arbiter Warrant at our table. Better.
Karaoke. Players great. KJ ... can't say without a ban. I don't want to click Report Post on one of my own posts today. But c'mon, he had NO Johnny Cash in his collection and had to download Ring of Fire (at least he got one without lyrics unlike some of his other downloads).
Sitting on patio chatting with players, TheNet and another Paragon QA person. Zwillyoubelieveitwasonlythreemaitais joined us and chatted candidly for a long time after bar closed. Thanks man, you guys rock.
Sunday more Bacon Waffles with a side of bacon at Holder's and more friends. Some were new friends. Always good to make new friends.
Dropped artphobia off at airport and drove around with Dramen for a bit, disappointed in lack of "scenery" downtown or in parks we found. AKA no women in skimpy clothing walking and enjoying the nice weather or tanning in the park.
Back to airport, couldn't do bag check since I was too early. Waited in lobby with Dramen. Checked bag and then walked Dramen to his gate. Looking and places to eat and Dramen's flight was delayed so he joined me. Cute bartender and waitress in The Brit where we ate. Dramen left, waited for my flight. Landed after midnight with still a long drive to get home. Home around 4:30 or so and getting dressed at 6:00 for work. Totally exhausted but very relaxed and full of good cheer from the weekend. Easy to tell I haven't had to talk to many teacher's today since I haven't run into Major Buzzkill.
Getting ready to go home now and will probably crash immediately.

Great food and weather.
Fantastic devs.
Wonderful time.
Ready to do it all again.
Need to win lottery so more friends can come. -
I didn't see it mentioned in the Newsletter this time but may have overlooked it. I also don't see it on ParagonWiki.
With all of the extra work in getting the Anniversary stuff started and the Pummit I'm sure they are just a bit behind in getting the word out.
I'm pretty sure that Freitag will have it posted as soon as he can today. He, Hit Streak and Zworkedtoomanyhoursthisweekend did a great job with the Pummit as well as putting out Anniversary info, moving and setting up computers and other hardware, coordinating with the Seattle and Austin offices for the Anniversary and Pummit and more. -
Quote:One of my main reasons for going to these events now has been to meet more players and hang out with the players I've met in the past or only known through the game or forums.
Somehow (I suspect Rangle gave a bribe to Texas Justice but cannot verify), we got an invite to Sunday breakfast at Holders. That turned out to be a who's who of some of the players I respect most associated with this game (Impish Kat, TJ, Samuraiko, Hyperstrike, Redlynne, TonyV) and several new friends too. I got to sit at the adult table without a bib and only had water knocked all over me by the waiter once (very refreshing). Apologies to Hyperstrike who drew the short straw and had to babysit us noobs in this gaggle of CoH heavy hitters.
It was attending some of the NCSoft M&G's in Austin and the 2007 M&G at Dave & Buster's that started getting me out of feeling so shy and awkward in social situations like that. That first NCSoft M&G in Austin had me feeling like the kid that got to sit at the adult table with the heavy hitters. That was where I got to hang out with MissInformed, Moggie, Neutra, Miri and several others that I considered to be part of the heavy hitters crew.
It has long been a tradition that when Red Gren plans something for a Justice meal at the Bay Area events that ALL players are welcome to come, even if they don't play on Justice. We started doing that with the Justice Japanese Junket at the first HeroCon and continue the tradition even now. And breakfast at Holder's Country Inn will always be a part of the events for me, particularly the Bacon Waffles. Everyone should experience those at least once. They did a better job of timing our waffles for delivery to the table Sunday morning than what they did Saturday. I know they recognized us immediately and realized that they needed to get started sooner on the Bacon Waffles so that they didn't get totally overloaded just from our table.
Even more than getting to bend the ears of the devs, I just like getting to hang out with the players, especially when some of them are the same ones I've been seeing at these events for years. I'm not that big into the board games so during that part of the weekend I used it to go around the room several times chatting with various players and catching up or meeting new people. I surprised myself by sitting down at one of the computers for a bit Friday night, but it didn't last long. Once Zwillingtoadmittoonlythreemaitais announced that they were doing an early registration I logged out of the game to get my nametag and such.
Of course, it's always great to get to add new faces and names to my lists of people I look forward to seeing at these things and now you and your wife are on the list of "must see and talk to" just as Impish Kat and Rangle got added this year along with Hyperstrike and others.
Once again it was a fun weekend. They are still trying some things to see what fits best in their plans going forward for events and will refine things based on how this one went, just as they learned things from the last one.
I don't know what it is but we seem to have a very binary system going for Karaoke at these events. One event we'll have an awesome KJ that does a fantastic job and keeps things exciting (the first HeroCon and the first Pummit) and the next time we get some that ... well ... doesn't do such a good job, doesn't seem to be very well prepared, and I'll stop before saying something I shouldn't about them (second HeroCon and second Pummit).
EDIT: Sorry this rambles a bit more than usual. I'm on a serious lack of sleep along with the lag from time zone changes and having to be extra busy at work the first morning back. I'll have my body back on a normal schedule by ... Thursday (possible) or Friday (probable). But by then I'll be starting to get it out of balance due to The Avengers being released. -

I take it the Starter Kit comes with the 400 points? And since she would be VIP for the month, she would already have access to the invention system? Sounds like win/win so far.
Just remember that when the VIP status lapses she will lose access to the Invention System unless you purchase a monthly IO license or buy enough Paragon Points to move her up the Reward Tiers high enough to permanently unlock IO's (Tier 7 completed = 27 Reward Tokens earned). -
Quote:*looks at previous posts*TJ, what time are you doing lunch on Friday? Me, John, and Chris land in SFO at 1:30pm (I think), and God knows we're gonna be starving by the time we arrive in San Jose.

Around 11:30 or 11:45 is when we should be getting to the Stanford Shopping Center and Schaub's Meat Fish & Poultry.
By the time you get from SFO to San Jose/Palo Alto/Mountain View area we will probably be on our way to the hotel to check in.
Unless we decide to invade the Paragon Studios offices. -
Almost as an afterthought something scrambled across the back part of my brain.
Two years ago I stopped by Paragon Studios office and was not allowed past the lobby.
This year, I won't be alone on Friday afternoon.
I wonder if they'd be able to turn away several players fresh from eating a good Fred's Steak sandwich that stormed their offices?
One of those things that makes you go "Hmmmmmmmm". -
Since it hasn't been posted anywhere (including the schedule in the first post) what time is registration opening on Saturday morning?
Will there be any early registration available on Friday night? -
Quote:If you check the time stamps of the posts, she posted this nearly 30 minutes before the official announcement post was made. Why do you always repost official announcements as if they weren't put in the News and Announcements forum folder?
She didn't repost the official announcement.
She pre-posted information before the official announcement. -
Quote:Yeah, I think you are better off dealing with this on a case by a case basis as it arises. Making a thread to complain about how min/max'ers are being treated is not going to garner the response that you seek.Quote:Which is exactly why you need to address them when they do that. Making a thread to complain about them doing that is not going to address the issue directly at all.
Very well stated. -
I can't test this with my system on Virtue since I refuse to create a character there due to the name of the server.
However, I do have a lowbie alt on Freedom that I can test this with after I get back from the Pummit.
I still don't think I'll have much of a problem, but I'm willing to test it during a high server load time. -

Quote:Reading Ukaserex's post it seems that most of the recommendations are made on the assumption that either the poster is a VIP or is willing to spend money for all of the unlocks (SSA's, IO's, AH, Alignment system, etc). One thing about Ukaserex's recommendation about using hero merits- they are available via the Alignment system. So to use them, you will either need to buy the alignment system in the Paragon Market, or find a new/unused box copy of going rogue and add it to your account.

Quote:Side note here. Non-VIP accounts do not have access to the Test server.
Last, if you're not sure about some build change and want to give it a test drive, go to a trainer and use the second build. You won't be sharing enhancements - it'll be like leveling up another fire blaster from 1-50 at a trainer - but you can try it out without having to load test or sacrifice your current build.
They also do not have access to the Beta server but that's a different matter. -
Quote:That's not a problem I've ever had, even with my lousy ISP connection. Most of the RPers used to hang out on top of City Hall, but not as much anymore. Atlas crashes a lot of people's systems with it's crushing lag and memory leaks.
Also, devs, if you read this... please fix that. I miss being able to go into Atlas. I can't anymore because my system screeches to a halt when I get near City Hall or the plaza.
This isn't on a monster gaming rig either. It's on a Dell that is nearly 4 years old. The only change to the system is the addition of a second drive for installing Windows 7 and replacement of a burned out Power Supply.
I've also never had that problem on my laptop even when I'm running wirelessly. -
Quote:I don't think that is completely accurate. I do think that the developers may have had a problem with the way procs behaved but they just didn't talk about it publicly since they had no tools at that time to change the way they worked.
For instance, see the proposed I24 proc changes. Procs have behaved in a roughly similar way since IOs were first added to the game, and the developers have never before had a problem with the way procs behaved, in the sense that the general mechanism was considered fine even when certain procs/powers were unbalanced. Yes, procs worked in a way that penalized some powers and aided others, but that was generally understood and still was an accepted part of the game. But now, I and others that utilized the nature of existing procs in order to enhance our gameplay are "selfishly trying to protect the bad mechanics for their gain."
As new tools have been developed, they have been able to change several things, not just procs, that they couldn't change before (Hami-O's that affected a stat they weren't supposed to affect as one example).
It's also possible that with some of the new items they are trying to introduce that they need to use newer tools with them and they are trying to balance older items along with the newer items.
It's also possible that some of the changes are due to design decisions made by the current team of developers rather than staying with decisions made by previous development teams.
That's not someone trying to claim you are "selfishly trying to protect the bad mechanics for their gain" as you put it. That's someone offering a fairly reasonable and plausible assessment as to why things are being changed now.
Also, there have been changes to the game since day 1 and will continue to be changes to the game. It is the developer's that get to make the decision as to whether or not they think a specific change is needed and they are under no obligation to give us that reasoning. Also, they don't always tell us if they think that something isn't working as well as they want it to work or in the way they want it to work, especially if they don't have a way to change it.
Work with the changes or leave. That's your decision. That's been a decision every player has had to make over the years in regards to specific changes. The old phrase was "vote with your wallet" but that's no longer a relevant phrase. -
