Quote:I probably could have put this in the last post, but I wanted to bring out this specific point and why I slightly disagree with you about it.
Generally speaking, I don't think it's appropriate to make a big deal out of people shifting around in the studio.
Many of us in the community have had direct or indirect interaction with some of the staff (and not just rednames) and have built a bit of a familiar relationship with them.
Knowing that people I've grown to trust are working on Project X makes me think this is something I might like. But some might possibly have that opinion anyway just because it's made by Paragon Studios.
Knowing that several people I've grown to trust are working on Project X makes it even more likely I'd be interested in it. But some might possibly have that opinion anyway just because it's made by Paragon Studios.
It may wind up being something I have no interest at all in, but I can base comments about it or recommendations about it on my previous relationships with those people. But some might possibly have that opinion anyway just because it's made by Paragon Studios.
For example, if it was a game based on the fashion industry I likely wouldn't have any interest in the game but I could give positive recommendations about the people that designed the game due to past interactions with them.
The trust factor is big with me. If you've earned that trust, it takes quite a bit to lose it (or at least something that I consider a very personal betrayal). Once that trust is lost I'm extremely reluctant to have anything to do with someone.
People that have met me and gotten to know me likely have seen that side of me.
Maybe it's not something that would be worth making a HUGE deal over, but mentioning when someone has moved over to work on the other project can help build anticipation for that project.
Of course, I can see where the reverse would be true as well in that some people might not try it just because it was someone that used to work on CoH that they didn't like. But some might possibly have that opinion anyway just because it's made by Paragon Studios. -
Quote:D'oh. I actually knew about Dark Watcher but somehow left him off the list.Dark Watcher is the only one that jumps out at me.
There's a few others you all have never had forums interaction with. Take into account that people have also been replaced with new hires as well. Generally speaking, I don't think it's appropriate to make a big deal out of people shifting around in the studio. COH still has a strong, dedicated development team and the fact that Paragon has other coals in the fire is a pretty exciting prospect. I know that I'm especially excited as the prospect of building a new Community from the ground up is a challenge I'm looking forward to (I'm not going anywhere, I'm in charge of all of Paragon's Communities)
Many of the people who have opted to shift to another project have put in many years on COH. While that's definitely admirable, from a professional and creative standpoint, I don't think anyone can begrudge them wanting a change of pace.
I don't begrudge them moving on to a new project, especially since it's at the same studio with some of the same people they've been working with for some time. I've not had any negative thoughts or interactions with the people who have replaced them in their previous positions either. I just have new names and faces to get used to and will get to talk to familiar names less here on the forums and possibly at future events like the Player Summits (it was great seeing TR, SM, NS and DW at the Spring Summit even though I knew they were on the other project and I knew they couldn't talk about it).
I'm looking forward to seeing what they are working on. It might be something that intrigues me enough to try for more than the first free month that comes with the game. Or enough that if it's a F2P game that I'd be willing to actually spend money on it. Trust from my previous experiences with those people goes a long way in my book.
Of course, I noticed that you didn't directly answer my suspicions about Ghost Falcon so I'll just keep that as a suspicion until given more information.
-
I couldn't remember for certain if it was you that reported this Roderick, that was why I didn't give any names.
I thought it was you, but wasn't certain that I didn't associate your name/avatar with it from you posting in that thread. -
Quote:There were reports on the forums from people who had experienced exactly this situation. They had gone Premium then tried to transfer a locked character to another server but were unable to. Support told them that a character must be unlocked in order to be transferred. The character they wanted to move was on a normal server, not Exalted. Are you sure about that, Rod? They said someone should be able to transfer characters off of the Exalted server if they dropped to Premium, and you CAN'T unlock a character on it.
With the way it is working, unless they have found a way to do something different for the Exalted server only, the only way to transfer them off of Exalted would be to do so while still VIP. -
Quote:That bolded part is actually the crux of the problem. You were only wanting to scan to find what you were interested in, but that wasn't your complaint. You're complaint was that the interface was clunky and hard to use, which is frankly rubbish. This latest statement actually shows why you wanted someone else to do the work to put it into a different format.Hero_of_Steel - thank you very much!
Texas Justice - It took me 20 seconds to scan what Hero_of_Steel posted for the information I find interesting. With that other interface, in 20 seconds I only managed to load it up and figure it out. Beyond that, I have to either guesswork what each feature is based on a minimized picture, zoom on it, which takes a good second on my computer), or go through the entire thing, which, again, is one second per change alone, plus the time it takes me to process the information each time.
You can claim I just need to give the interface more time, but my own take on it is, why would I want to "learn" a new interface if I can get the information faster in a more traditional format? New isn't always better by virtue of being new, and if your only retort to my concerns based on hard data is to dismiss my experience as lies or some supposed physical handicap, you're going to have a hard time making me see the errors of my ways.
...And, yes, as you can guess, I tend to be on the other side at work; and, since we're exchanging pleasantries, from my perspective too many IT folks just seem to care too much about technical accomplishments and too little about actual efficiency.
For the record, I never said you need to give it more time.
I asked how hard it is to click a forward arrow or a back arrow.
That's not having to learn something new. You already use forward and back arrows in browsers and other interfaces.
As for the work stuff, most of what they refuse to try to use is actually more efficient than the way they insist on doing things. They'll go through an 18-stop process to do something manually that takes them 4 steps to do with the software.
I'm not worried about the technical accomplishments that much, I'm more about them getting things done in a simpler and less time-consuming manner.
I also want them to teach their students how to use these tools effectively since that is part of what they are getting paid to do. When they refuse to learn it themselves, they can't teach it to the students. -
Quote:Clunky and hard to use? This thing is clunky and hard to use. Anyone care to summarize the information in a text format?
How hard is it to click a forward arrow or a back arrow?
I guess it would be hard to use if you took an arrow to the mouse hand, but otherwise?
I'm on a slow wireless ISP connection and I can easily click those arrows.
This sounds much like the complaints by some of my staff for software they haven't even tried to use. -
OK. So. The good folks we've lost to the other project so far (at least the ones I know of).
Second Measure
The Television
Tunnel Rat
Hero 1
Black Scorpion
Noble Savage
So can/will you tell us if there are any others not on that list that are on the other project?
Does anyone else know of someone I inadvertently left off the list? If so, please post corrections to my list.
I'm suspecting Ghost Falcon may be on the other project as well, but only have suspicions about that. -
Quote:You are not wrong, and yet you are wrong in other ways.Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are both Blue-side missions. Rogues cannot be assigned them.
Both mission arcs are set over level 14, which, if I'm not mistaken, is when the Oro Portal can first be earned. Therefore, they are not overly difficult to access. I would call this a possible improvement, not a bug. As others have pointed out, these can spawn in other zones as well.
Heroes can team with Rogues. If the Rogue is on a team with a Hero that receives a mission located in Echo: Dark Astoria, the Rogue has no way to get there unless they have the Mission Teleporter or possibly the new Team Transport. They shouldn't have to rely on access to a power on a timer that may not be available when the mission comes up.
None of these missions should be sending teams to Echo: Dark Astoria due to the inaccessibility for mixed teams.
As NekoNeko pointed out, some of these are random door locations. They should simply remove the options for locating these missions in Echo: Dark Astoria. -
Quote:I call shenanigans on whatever you've seen on Amazon. Oddly, I can't find anything along those lines in reviews on Amazon, but if you have somewhere found something like that, the person that posted it is lying through their teeth.
As to the locking on OEM/System Builder, go look up some of the reviews on Amazon. I'd rather not tempt fate by purchasing one only to find out that if a hard drive dies, I'm out that money for the OS.
That being said, thank you for the suggestions and help. I will try to find an upgrade for Win7 Premium. I will also look into the method for dual booting. Peace.
Simply replacing a hard drive will not trigger the reactivation. As Hyperstrike said, it requires replacing a significant amount of hardware to trigger the reactivation query.
I've been a tech since 1993 (not to mention the several years before that of starting to tinker and learn hardware) and have built several systems, rebuilt several systems and done minor hardware upgrades and replacements. Not just for myself but for friends, family, strangers and even some of the companies I've worked for.
In that time, I've had to call Microsoft exactly 2 times for activation problems. One of those was because someone had written the license key down in a way that made it difficult to tell if it was a B or an 8 in the key. The other was due to an electrical storm frying the system less than 4 months after it was built and having to replace everything in the computer. As soon as I said "electrical storm" and mentioned where the customer lived the Microsoft rep apologized for the problems in registration and activated the license in their system. He told me that the only reason it had triggered was due to the major number of hardware ID's changing and how recently the OS had been registered. Total time of call? 10 minutes. I was browsing some tech articles while I made the call. I'd have been reading those articles anyway, so no real loss of my time.
Oh yeah, and both of these problems were on Windows XP. I've yet to have a problem with activations on either Vista or Windows 7.
You asked for advice, were given advice, then made a ridiculous statement that was shot down by several people that are computer techs. You came back in with more FUD posting and again the techs gave you accurate information to shoot down those posts. And yet you still want to act like you're being wronged because we are giving you truthful and accurate information to correct the misinformation you've gotten elsewhere.
You take the cake. -
Quote:Actually, there is a rationale for it, and it's been posted previously by Clockwork 01, the Associate Producer for the game.I must say I'm a little disappointed in the Panther Stealth Power.
Firstly, there go my toggles again! WHY do you have to disable them in ALL my Market-bought travel powers??? I've never understood the rationale for this. Probably because there is none.
Quote:It requires the modification of every animation currently existing in the game to work with these movement modes.
Furthermore, it requires every new animation created in the game going forward to be created with these additional movement modes in mind, increasing the number of animations needed for every new power set, emote, etc.
This is not a simple request, it is an exponential increase in time and work for every new animation that is put into the game. -
Quote:He'd have had to have not looked around very much for the first several years of playing the game. The Goat has obviously not looked around very much.
Edit: Which given the reasoning for a specific suggestion of his....
I've seen people create some amazingly accurate IP Violations over the years, all the way back into Beta. -
Quote:The OEM versions are not garbage./headdesk
What I thought was a good deal on Win7 turns out to be OEM/System Builder garbage. You know, the version that (supposedly) locks to a specific configuration. Forget that noise.
I guess now I have to find a copy of XP 64 bit that works and isn't a scam/burned copy.
Sorry for wasting everyone's time.
I've never been locked to a specific configuration on any OEM version of Windows I've bought.
I had a system that I'd been running Windows 98SE on that I reloaded with XP shortly after XP came out using an OEM version of XP Pro. A few years later I did a major rebuild of the system basically re-using just the case, power supply and optical drives with the rest of the system internals being new and didn't have any problems using that same OEM version of XP Pro.
That system had a motherboard failure shortly after I moved back to Texas and I replaced the motherboard with a different manufacturer's board (couldn't find a reasonably priced ASUS of the same model) and had no trouble with activating the same XP Pro license on it.
And that's just one system. I've regularly re-used OEM licenses when doing complete upgrades. I know several other techs that do the same thing. -
Someone needs to change their forum signature to accurately reflect the new name for the event.

Quote:Yes, and as usual you completely ignore the fact that there are people in this game that DO NOT TEAM. Not just exceptions for small teams, not just exceptions for large teams, not just exceptions for leagues but NO TEAMING AT ALL.It's 4 people - that's a small team even in normal mission content
And as usual, you chose to respond to someone you KNOW does not team with an insipid comment that "it's a small team event".
For anyone wondering, this post has been heavily edited multiple times before hitting Submit Reply. The first 4 versions were much harsher.
Those versions also would have required moderator action.
When people purposely make responses like that because they know it will bait me into responding, they get what they get. -
Quote:It was a Live Preview of the Summer Blockbuster Event. When did or when is this supposed to occur? I dont recall seeing any announcements at 5pm today.
The information was posted on the Facebook page and on Twitter.
There was no official announcement on the forums (at least none that show in Dev Digest or Community Digest).
It's already happened (almost 2 hours ago) at this point in time. -

Quote:And this is why I'll not be doing this event.
Edit: Yup, LFG event via holiday events. Caps at 4 people, no more no less.
(for those that have difficulty interpreting comments, the / text that follows is put there just for you, as is this explanation)
/sarcasm
I'm so glad that they've decided that forced teaming is required for any new events.

Ambient Occlusion is a framerate killer. Turn it off completely in both the Ambient Occlusion and Advanced Occlusion settings.
Also, I'd recommend lowering the Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering settings to more reasonable settings. My recommendation would be AA at 4x and AF at 4x or 8x.
I'd even set Bloom to Off or get it down to a normal setting of 1.0 instead of 2.0 and lower the World Detail to High.
People have reported problems with running Shadows Enabled at No. I'd recommend setting it to Yes and then running Shadow Mode at Stencil Shadows for a minimum or higher.
Finally, your audio driver installation appears to be corrupted. I've seen other seemingly unrelated problems resolved by getting audio drivers installed correctly or updated correctly. Since yours are showing the date as 1/1/0001 while the video driver date shows correctly, that indicates a corrupted installation of the drivers with the funky dates.
A better place to have put this post would have been in the Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs forum section since that is where most of the tech folk tend to look for things like this. You may want to PM a member of the OCR team or a forum moderator and ask them to move this thread to that section. -
Why would you want to ban the Repeat Offenders network of players?
Sure, you may not like Pinball Wizards, Brain Damage, Stone Cold, Faithful Fans of Fallout or any of the other SG's that are part of the RO network, but they've done nothing to be banned for.
Oh wait.
Fuhgeddaboutit. -
People were also doing silly things such as dropping O-portals on top of mission entrances (especially the in-ground entrances, submarine hatches, etc) to keep people from being able to click on the mission entrance.

Thanks for doing such a great job leading raids for us Warboss and for being so reliable.
Justice has one of the best groups of raid leaders around, and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to meet a few of them in person as well as in the game.
When you come back to leading raids again I may be able to be persuaded to team with you at least once.
That's about the highest praise I can offer in a virtual environment. -
Quote:I'm not sure I can totally place the blame at Paragon Studios door for this one. It seems to be more of a problem caused by PlaySpan. The only thing I'm tired about the Paragon Market is the horrible interface that requires me to drill down three levels and flip four pages to find the item costume bundle that's either new or on sale. It makes the consignment house UI see like the pinnacle of UI design.
Check out the upper image on this page. -
Quote:Interesting.Probably the same thing as this, as I'm having the same issue as described by the OP in said linked thread.
It started working for the OP in that thread after I put in a support request about it and they started fixing it.
It took a bit of time but they finally got it all fixed.
It all works as it should for me.
Tested again yesterday before I responded to this thread.
Perhaps you should put in a support ticket to get your issue fixed?

I'm glad no one was taking pictures during what passed for Karaoke.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that had an expression on their face showing their disdain for the KJ and how badly he was doing.
