Not saying you have no control over it. If you tried to be obese, I'm sure you could manage to do it. Likewise, just because one is predisposed to obesity doesn't mean that they have to be obese. With a good diet and exercise, anyone has the capacity to be a healthy weight.

I do think, however, that our particular culture that rewards people for sedentary lifestyles, that is driven by non-stop passive entertainment (television and the Internet), and in which eating healthy is considerably more difficult and usually more expensive than shoveling a steady stream of junk food down, it's hard not to be obese no matter what your metabolism is. Sure, we can fight it, but do we as a society really want to?
You made my point as well Tony. Trying to blame obesity on one thing is a flawed argument. There are several factors at work.

Trying to blame it on specific products or a high sugar diet is just as flawed.

I've had mostly good dealings with NCSoft support, and my interaction with Billing and Account support the one issue I dealt with them over was extremely positive.

But I've just seen too many of the NCSoft support staff reply inappropriately to support tickets, not fully pay attention to what was being said or making other mistakes. Some of these I've seen as posts made by other players, sometimes it's been in posts on other sites where the actual responses were posted and a small handful have been direct dealings with support.

I'd just hate for her to have her account perma-banned because someone wasn't paying enough attention to what was actually said and misinterpret it as being a disputed charge.

Given that some of their Support people haven't fully paid attention to the actual issue or what was said in the past I don't think it is unreasonable to think it could happen here.

It's possible that if the credit card company was contacted and they tried to set up a time to do a conference call when Billing and Account support is open that the person they initially contacted could misinterpret it as a disputed charge. I just think it's better to try to eliminate as many possible misinterpretations as possible.

Edit: I can't put much stock in common sense anymore. I see too many instances of common sense not being used daily. As for NCSoft's business practices, well, I've been a supporter of the company and of the game for over 8 years. I still trust them enough to give them my money in annual payments. I base all of my previous comments on past experiences, both personal and from people I trust, with some of the support staff members.

I think the last report I saw was that you had over 300 alts, is that correct?

I've only had a problem on one server getting a name I wanted. I tried three of my favorite character names from Justice and all were in use on Victory. Since I was only going to create a character there to play with a few people I didn't worry about it. I wound up not logging in to that character for well over a year, although my account was active the entire time.

Thanks for the info.... guess I'll have to get a jump on it tomorrow.
My fear is, now that this has been dragged out for a few days, that the "deal" will be considered off.
D'oh, forgot that you can't PM. I'll do the PM for you.

If they try to say the deal is off make sure you remind them that you filed a support ticket immediately and have asked for information that they delayed sending you an answer to.

Not saying NCSoft is one of them, but many companies may not want to have to talk to their costumers, but they don't dare ignore VISA or MASTERCARD, or any of the other biggie credit card groups for fear of losing the ability to accept payment via that vector. It's very possible that whomever you speak with at your CC company will be able to 3way call in NCSoft with you on the line so that you can discuss your issue with a witness/moderator right there.

Since billing and account support are only available during the times I listed above, it would be rather useless to contact the credit card company to try to have them conference in NCSoft account support. Also, they may flag it as a dispute and cause the account to get perma-banned or the NCSoft people they contact may mistakenly assume it's being handled as a disputed charge and perma-ban the account. We don't want that happening here. We've already lost one hottie on Justice due to that.

I'd recommend the Live Help tab tomorrow or the phone number I listed (they seem to be preferring the Live Help tab now to phone calls, this is likely why they removed the number from all of the support pages). It would likely still be helpful to contact one of the OCR folks to provide what help they can.

I'm guessing that whoever was handling the ticket didn't directly have an answer about the 6+1 in this case and had to ask someone. Since the person they have to ask is in Account or Billing Support, they may not be on the same shifts and may be still waiting to get a response from them.

Is AS still very long to use? Inside combat and while hidden? Or both times are different now?

Don't worry StarGeek, i wouldnt dump an almost purpled build for fun. But thanks for reminding me i have multiple builds, i've been trying to fight lvl 53 with my unslotted build. It was painfull... =p

Funny thing, i have access to First Ward and Dark Astoria. And my purples seems to still be working, at least partly. (3X ultimate fire and cold resistance bonus O.o)
Premium accounts can get into the zones, they just can't get the missions for those zones. If you are teamed with a VIP and they try to run the missions they will get a message that all team members must be VIP (or have purchased the First Ward arcs in that situation).

As for why StarGeek mentioned the second build, there have been plenty of people that didn't know about it. Some have come here complaining that they had to remove all of their IO's for their build so that they could re-slot with SO's. He's just trying to head that off.

There is no 800 number. All there is is a 512 area code number. Like the rest of billing and account support, it is only available from noon to 5 PM Central time Monday through Friday. It has been a while since I've had to call them, but the number I have written down here is (512) 225-6359. I have no idea if that number has changed. I can't find it on the support site anywhere.

Similarly, the Live Help tab from the support site for account, billing and technical support issues is only available Monday through Friday. It is also only available from Noon to 5 PM Central on Monday through Thursday but noon to 3:30 PM on Friday.

You may also want to send members of the OCR team a PM with a link to this post asking if they can help get your question answered about the 6+1 deal. Hit Streak, Freitag and Zwillingtohelpeveryone would be the ones I'd try.

I'd actually try to ask Black Pebble but he has PM's disabled the last time I looked.
  10. No.

Even if emails were sent out, the person may not have the email account that was originally associated with the game account. I know mine has changed and I've been subscribed since day one. It took a while for me to change the email address since I didn't need access to it though.

Also, they have enough problems with emailing things correctly. Look at all the comments by people over the years that are not getting the Promotional emails, even the ones that have jumped through hoops making sure that the flag is set to receive emails, making sure that the emails aren't going to a SPAM folder, making sure that they've white listed the address the emails are supposed to come from, changed email addresses to use a service other players are using that are getting the emails. All with no success.

And what if the email goes to someone that is unable to check that email address due to being shipped out of town, out of the state or out of the country for work or any other reason? What if they are in the military and deployed to a location that gives them no access to the email address they have on file or to the Account page to change it?

What if the email goes to someone that has no internet access temporarily for one of any number of reasons?

Your "grace period" couldn't be long enough to account for most of these situations and still be a viable "grace period".

I have friends that haven't played in years that have popped in off and on over the years during free reactivation weekends. Some of them are considering coming back at times now that Freedom is available. I've actively worked to get some of them to come back on a more regular basis. Do you know what their reactions would be if they logged in and their characters name was gone? We'd NEVER get them to play again. Some people would even be raging across all types of internet forums, game sites and other places gamers might look (or just anywhere they could post) slamming the game.

This has become even more an area they aren't likely to touch since the release of Freedom since it is a way to entice former customers back and get them to use the a la carte services in the Paragon Market instead of a full subscription.

Where's JRanger when you need him?

    That was a Cryptic policy.

It's not necessarily an industry standard.

Even if it were, PS wouldn't be required to follow such a policy.

They've already learned that not all of Cryptic's policies were good policies.

  14. Just as in this game, problems reported to the map outfits don't get fixed as soon as they should and some are still not fixed. As I said, I've been fighting both of those for well over 10 years.

You've been told that they work to correct the errors reported to them but make rant posts when you find something that hasn't been fixed.

Someone points out to you things that haven't been fixed in the industry you brought up having experience in and you blow it off as if it were totally different from what you are complaining about.

    It's not different.

EDIT: I'd say that the standards should be even higher in the map business in getting corrections made. Errors in addresses can cause delays for emergency response units, electrical company repair units and many more areas that need accurate addressing and mapping. I've had experience with delays from emergency vehicles due to the address errors in the mapping products. This was after they were told that not to use the GPS for the address as it was wrong but were given explicit directions by their dispatcher.

EDIT2: Whether Samuraiko or anyone else has offered to do the proofreading is irrelevant. Especially if it's someone that keeps trying to get hired. I know of several people that would be willing to do it for free, I'm one of them. If I offered to correct errors in any of the mapping stuff they wouldn't give me access to it unless they were hiring me to do that specific job. Still irrelevant.

If people are told over and over again that sugar is healthier than red meat, they're going to believe it eventually, even if it's not true. My diet has always been high in sugar. Many of my friends comment that I drink a little tea in my sugar. My grandmother drank her tea sweeter than mine and ate more sugar than I did, mostly from eating her own deserts.

I'm not in the least bit obese and I avoid exercise as much as possible. She was very active but never was one for exercise. She was never obese either.

Yes, they should fix the typo's when reported. They don't always do that.

As for Google Maps, or any other mapping, don't get me started. Quality Control is a joke. Someone made a typo at some time in the past and what should show as Rd on a map to my house shows as Dr instead. The county maps show it clearly as being Rd all the way through, but not the online services. I've been trying to get that fixed for well over 10 years. It makes it impossible to get to my house using any online mapping service or any GPS units. Quality Control my donkey

On top of that, someone got really sloppy when writing my address down by hand and the person entering the data read 213 as 43 instead (go ahead, write 213 down really fast so that the lines might cross, someone can read it as 43). I'm still trying to get that fixed. Where's the Quality Control? Right, there isn't any.

My suspicions as to what those reasons were may be off base, but I like to think they might be pretty close.

Head off complaints from players that "liked" the fog in the old DA or the flavor of the zone or whatever else. They can go to the Echo and get the same stuff.

Head off complaints from players that the old badges were no longer available. They can go to the Echo and get those badges.

Not take chances on accidentally leaving a mission door with nowhere to be placed or being placed in an inappropriately leveled zone for the mission. If you've missed one, that still gives you time to move it's door once you know about it. If there is no zone to set the door in, it could cause major crash issues.

It may not agree with everyone else's thoughts.

My personal opinion is that laptops run very hot anyway so those temps are likely OK as long as those are the temps you are seeing under load, like while the game is running. CoH puts a load on systems anyway and is a good stress test for systems.

I'd start to worry about it if those were the temps during normal computer use (browsing the web, creating documents or spreadsheets, watching a video, etc). Especially since the game is going to put a load on the graphics chipset and CPU. That would be what I'd consider the high end for normal computer usage (ie, non-gaming).

If those are gaming temps, I wouldn't worry until it got around 85 or higher and I'd only run that for a short time.

If you are going to be running an extended game session on the laptop (over an hour) I'd recommend tabbing out at times to check the temps or keeping the temp monitor on top of the game if you can keep it out of where you need to see most of the time.

Frankly, I don't use my laptop for any extended gaming session mostly due to temperatures and less cooling capabilities. Most of my laptop gaming is short sessions.

Others may have differing opinions on the temps. I couldn't find any specs on what the 550M or 555M are rated at for temps (not sure which you have, but those are the two that came up for that model number).
  22. Nothing in the forum rules about asking a question related to what has already been said in the thread.

Since the thread was having recent conversations about the graphics chipset already it seems quite relevant to ask about the temps here rather than start a new thread and have to link to this one or repost a lot of what was in the thread.
