May I ask why thread "necromancy" is discouraged?

Doesn't creating threads about the same topic make things more difficult to find when searching due to multiple threads about the same topic coming up in the results?

Heck, it's even on the guidelines just posted under section 5...

It's a little contradictory since players are being asked to search but then if the thread they happen to find is "old", it will be locked and they will have to go through the trouble of creating a brand new thread with the same information they just posted.

This is in no way a complaint or aimed at causing trouble, I am just honestly curious what the specific reason for this is. All other sites/forums I have personally been a member of discouraged creating a new thread if there was one already made about the same topic, regardless of when the last post was made.

    Thank you.
I'm not Zwiffendaggerinmyback, nor am I a Moderator, Administrator, Volunteer, Dev or an employee of Paragon Studios or NCSoft, nor am I another forum user (does that cover the new entry in Rule #16 well enough?) but I do have some thoughts about it.

If there is a recent discussion, they want you to search so that we don't have 15 new posts about Celestial Armor being removed but instead have one thread to consolidate that information in to make it easy to find.

If there is an old discussion, things may have changed so that the old post isn't relevant and people don't miss seeing the dates on posts and think that something said applies currently. The game has enough changes that what was happening then may not be how it happens now. Reasons given during the old discussions may not apply as they do now with other changes.

If there is an old discussion about something it would be appropriate to link to it so that people can see that it's something that HAS been discussed before but that there have been enough changes to make it so that all of the things stated in the previous discussions may no longer be true but still present some of the same information that would be relevant today.

    ---------------

It made sense in my head when I started typing it. I think it still makes sense.

    ---------------

And that may not be the reason at all, that's just one reason that I can see for it.

If I'm completely wrong, I'm sure someone from the OCR team or the Dev team will correct me.

EDIT: BTW Z, now I have new numbers to remember. Thanks a lot.
  2. No, it's supposed to change KB into KD or KU.

Unless something has changed since the last discussions I saw about it.

Or I'm just totally misunderstanding those threads and comments.

  4. It could be a number of issues and not a problem with the game or how the game uses OpenGL.

There have been enough graphics drivers with poorly written OpenGL support or graphics drivers with other OpenGL or CoH issues.

There is software that can conflict with some of the OpenGL calls so that it can't be determined that the game itself is at fault.

Without any actual technical information it's all just guessing however.
  5. Try communicating through global names. Posts with email addresses in them are likely to be removed.

Demanding dev responses is against forum rules.

Then again, so are threads discussing characters names being changed.

Consistency in enforcement of the forum rules has never been a strong point for any of the Community teams for this game.
  7. Both of those games use DirectX for graphics rendering.

    City of Heroes uses OpenGL.

  9. I'm not talking about just GG, I'm talking about everywhere.

As for the rest ... like I said, I've edited out enough comments tonight, I'm going to stop now before I decide to quit editing my own posts.

EDIT: I should re-word something I said earlier. I'm trying not to use them unless I poach them from elsewhere. I don't always suceed.
  10. /shrug

I've just gotten tired of seeing smileys in almost every post on the forums. I've stopped using them unless I poach them from elsewhere.

When I'm at work, as I was when I made that post, I have less access to sites that might have the images I want to use.

They are also against forum rules.

I didn't say "that wasn't funny" nor did I see anyone else see that. I saw a few light-hearted comments about your previous posting history (at least the posts I'd seen).

I had comments about your suggestion in my post initially but decided to remove them since I couldn't find any wording that didn't make the response sound harsh or condescending. I just left the light-hearted comments about the lists as the entirety of the post.

    Who made a personal attack?

A few people made some light-hearted comments but there were no personal attacks.

You are reading things into posts (at least my posts) that aren't there.

We need to force people to use these social spots in the game.

Charging a fee for using the /vault command (formerly a Veteran Reward, now part of the Paragon Rewards shrub) would be one way to get people to use those highly social locations in the game.

I keep hearing that Steelclaw lists are funny.

They should charge you a fee each time you use that command rather than running to the social spot in the game that exists for this purpose.

That was sort of my point they took so long giving us a new power to aim for how many people just like me now have dozens of characters powered to the MAX and with all the salvage they need to slot Hybrid.. All that's left is to run the trial again and again and again . If we'd had hybrid sooner we wouldn't have as much salavge built up and probably less characters powered up as well. Depending of course on the individual, their time available on line, and the amount of time it takes fo them to get bored doing the same thing again and again.
    OK.

You, and everyone else that quoted my post, missed the point completely.

Maybe you need to re-read the quote in my post again and then read my post to see the connection.

    Context people, context.

I didn't say anything about any other games so I'm not sure why you are bringing that up.

I asked about whether you were in Europe for two reasons. The _fr at the end of your forum name and the recollection of something similar from someone in Europe that found it was a problem with their ISP.

Doesn't it take Advanced iXP to open the Hybrid slot? Or has that changed since I last looked at Beta?

Isn't the only place to gain Advanced iXP in the Magisterium Trial? Or has that changed since I last looked at Beta?
  19. OK.

I did what I should have done in the first place instead of asking a question.

I looked up Enhancement Converter Salvage at ParagonWiki.

Yes, Enhancement Converters can be used on SBE's.

It makes the LoTG set more appealing now.

    I certainly do.

One thing it lets me do is stay in practice on what the range of each attack is without any risk.
  22. Check the global channels on Union and you can likely find where and when people are organizing WST runs.

If you don't know the main global channels for Union you may want to check the Union forums.
  23. Are you in Europe by any chance? I saw reports last week or the week before about someone in Europe having a similar problem and it turned out to be due to something with their ISP.

I'll see if I can find the post when I get home.
  24. Can Enhancement Converters be used on SBE's?

Can't remember if I've seen that covered or not.
