Maybe out of curiosity you could give it a try at work if it's safe to do so.
I have no need to scan the files with AVG. The purpose of scanning it with 3 other trusted A/V products was to see if they reported any viruses. That's a basic troubleshooting step when a program reports a file is infected. Since they didn't find a problem it seems to be a false positive and I don't need to scan it with the one reported as giving the false positive. The other explanation would be that the file that was uploaded was infected already which I can't test since I don't have that other persons files.

As for AVG in general? It's still a good program, but it's become too bloated for my tastes.

I think I might have gotten 3 false positives in the 7-9 years I used AVG, both on my personal computers and work computers. 1 of those false positives was at work this past year.

I stopped using it on my personal computers because it became just another bloated program that used more resources than what I liked. They also made it more difficult to shut down temporarily for software installs. Previously I could disable it from the system tray icon. Now I have to open the program, go to Tools > Advanced Settings > Resident Shield, uncheck the User Resident Shield box and click OK. After installing the software I have to repeat the process in order to check that box again.

Too much hassle for something that used to require two clicks to disable and two clicks to enable.

    Already covered a day ago.

    Keep up please.

  3. I don't have a computer here at the house that has AVG on it. I can take the file to work with me next week and scan it with two different versions of AVG there, but after scanning it with 3 other programs with no problems I don't really see the need.

    Sounds like a false positive.

Luckily I have a few computers I'm working on here that have different A/V systems. I've scanned the downloads I've done (including one after seeing your post) with 3 virus scanners and none of them have detected anything. I used Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials and Kaspersky.

    All came up clean.
  5. They left him in Maria's A Hero's Hero arc through Oro.
They left him in the Tutorial.

You'll also need to unlock your alpha slot before Captain Nolan will talk to you, if I recall.
I knew I should have put that in the post.

You can gain Incarnate Salvage (Threads) without having the Alpha Slot fully unlocked, just by defeating mobs on the streets of DA. It also gives iXP progress towards opening your Alpha Slot.

To do the DA Arcs as your own missions:

    1. You must be a Level 50 VIP.
    2. You must have the Alpha Slot fully unlocked.
    3. You must run the arcs initially in DA after talking to the Intro contacts.
    4. Once you have completed an arc you can run it again through Orobouros (I'm not certain if you have to run the Personal Missions before being able to access the contact through Oro as I had already run them before testing it so hopefully someone can clarify that point).

I recommend talking to Taskmaster Gabriel in DA as well once you start the arcs (do it between arcs as he sometimes won't talk to you with an active mission there, possibly only when doing them through Oro). You get two Empyreans for completing the entire DA arc (whether the first time through or through Oro) subject to a 7 day timer.

There are also repeatable mission contacts in DA but you must have at least started unlocking the Alpha Slot by killing mobs in DA, by completing Mender Ramiel's arc or by using Astral Merits to purchase an Alpha Slot unlock voucher from Astral Christy and then redeeming that voucher on the character you want the Alpha Slot unlocked on. You don't need it fully unlocked to get missions from Ephram Sha (Heroes) or Maharaj (Villains).
  7. That means that something is blocking it's access to the registry.

A HiJackThis log would likely show what software is blocking it.
  8. Hokey Smokes ZM, that hurt my eyes trying to read it.
  9. You could always use Neo Shadowdream's Login Screen Changer.

You can create your own login screen with it from just about any image.
  10. Uncheck the box to "Only show free costumes" on the tailor screen and see if they show up.

The other option would be, if that doesn't resolve it, to log out to the desktop and then log back in. Sometimes the store and game don't sync correctly so the game doesn't have the right information about what you've purchased.

If that doesn't resolve it, submit a support ticket at https://support.cityofheroes.com using the Ask a Question tab. If you haven't created a Support Account before you will need to create one.
  11. The driver listed is the driver I see on the nVidia site (301.42). As Chad said, that may not be the best driver for your card and the game. You may want to try the 296.10 or 295.73 drivers instead.

The bigger problem is that it appears that the driver installation is corrupted which is why it is showing the driver date as 01/01/0001 0.00.00 instead of the actual date. If the audio driver date was listed the same way, I'd assume you were using a non-US date and time format, but since that driver date shows correctly it indicates a corrupted video driver installation.

Uninstall the drivers but don't reboot yet, uninstall the nVidia Display entries from the Control Panel but don't reboot yet, download and install Driver Sweeper but don't run it yet, download a new version of the nVidia drivers but don't install them yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode and cancel any New Hardware Wizards that come up. Run Driver Sweeper and have it remove the remnants of the previous nVidia video driver installation. Reboot when it prompts for it and let it load into normal Windows mode.

Cancel any New Hardware Wizards that come up. Install the video card drivers that you downloaded before rebooting into Safe Mode. Run CoH Helper again and paste the results into Notepad. Look at the driver date. If it shows as 01/01/0001 then the installation is still corrupted. If the date is showing correctly, try to see if you can see your character.

Also, your CoH Helper report only shows part of the output. It should have entries from reading your registry to get the settings for the game. Since this isn't showing it seems that something may be blocking access to the registry. That could also cause the corrupt driver installation.

You may also want to post a HiJackThis report as shown in Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread that is stickied in this section of the forums. It could be software on your computer that is interfering with CoH Helper being able to access the registry entries or that is conflicting with the game and not letting you see the character.

Since we can't see the game settings that are missing from the CoH Helper report the only thing I could offer as advice there would be to set the settings as low as they will go or Off except for settings
    Shadows to Stencil Shadows.

Lastly, your free space on Drive C: is at 19%. Some Windows routines have problems when the free space percentage gets below 20 to 25 percent. They don't see that it is 42 Gb free, they only see the percentage.
  12. Have you run through those arcs initially through Dark Astoria and not through Ouroboros?

You have to complete them as normal arcs before you can access them through Ouro.

If you haven't run them yet start the mission chain with Captain Nolan in Peregrine Island for Heroes or a Threatening Arachnos Message for Villains.
  13. When I tried to get on Test last night it just sat at the "Retrieving Character List from Training Room" screen.

After a few minutes I clicked the Back button and got a window asking if I was sure I wanted to leave my place in the Queue.

Haven't updated Beta to try it.

EDIT: Updated Beta a few minutes ago, logged in with no problems, got the Character List and loaded one of my characters into the game. Decided to see if Test was working but I still get the "Retrieving Character List from Training Room" screen that just stays there.

I sent a PM to Arbiter Warrant when I saw the initial post.
  15. I'm glad you were able to resolve the problems.
  16. Ah.

If that is indeed the case then that's sloppy wording for the patch notes.

When there is a word in existence in the game for a specific entity or type of entitiy, you don't use that word elsewhere to refer to other entities or types of entities. It only creates confusion, as evidenced here.

I was envisioning Jurassik, Hatched Kraken, Devouring Earth Monsters in PI, and other entities already classed as Monster in the game. I was even willing to include Giant Monsters in that description.

For some odd reason I was thinking Minotaurs and Cyclops were in the Monster class but they are just Elite Bosses (are they just Bosses in the Sister Solaris arc that is part of the DA arcs?).

EDIT: I know why I was thinking that about Minotaurs and Cyclops. Part of the Mission Objectives text for some of the Solaris arc refers to them as "# monsters of Romulus Augustus to defeat".
  17. What were your settings on that was getting you 5 or 6 Monsters at once?

    From the patch notes:

    Quote:

Monsters are now allowed to taunt players. Taunts from monsters will affect players in the same ways that taunts from players do.
Why would anyone run into range of that many Monsters when they are solo?
  18. No putting words in my mouth, please.

I said more players and non-subscribers. I didn't say new players.

As for what was said before on Massively about this very trial, when was the last article they had? I apparently missed seeing any articles that were more than just an announcement about the Magisterium Trial or Issue 23. The announcement didn't give the details that the Dev Diary entry did. They may have given more information on some other sites, but some people are picky about what sites they get their gaming information from.

Many people look specifically for the Dev Diary type posts on Massively and other sites because they like getting the viewpoint of the Developers rather than just some reviewers interpretation of something.

In the long run, I know I'm not the target audience for these articles.
  19. No, you can't convert threads to Astrals or Empyreans.

Why two? That allows them to give two different types of rewards with different timers for different tasks. Some are given as rewards for completing certain phases in iTrials or for completing the iTrial itself. Since I don't iTrial I can't give you all of the information about what is rewarded for what. However, ParagonWiki can give you information about how to earn Astral Merits and Empyrean Merits.

Empyreans can be earned in DA by talking to Taskmaster Gabriel and then completing each of the DA arcs (in the first run through in the zone or through Oroborous) every 7 days. Completing all of the arcs and talking to Taskmaster Gabriel gains you 2 Empyrean Merits each time (subject to the 7 day timer).
  20. Hmmm.

Marketing did something to promote the game to non-subscribers and people complain that it's not new information.

Marketing didn't do what someone thought they should do (TV ads, product placement in TV shows, etc) to try to bring in more players and Marketing is a bunch of incompetent slobs.

    Got it.

    Like that.
  22. Since I'm at home now and looking at my Desktop computer it seems that I may be blocking it at home due to using Stylish and Zombie Man's Hero Skin or at least I'm guessing it is the Hero Skin doing it since I don't have anything listed in ABP for the background image, even in the Blockable items listing.

It's possible that it's one of my GreaseMonkey scripts doing it, but I think it's the Zombie Man Hero Skin that's doing it. Of course, you may prefer the Zombie Man Villain Skin instead.

I highly recommend using one of those skins as well as several of the GreaseMonkey scripts mentioned in that thread such as the Forum Signature Tamer and the Sticky Fix. I also use City of Heroes vBulletin Font Stripper script to remove colors from posts. I found it listed in a thread on the forums but can't recall where it was.

EDIT: D'oh. I found a way to verify that it is the Zombie Man Hero Skin that is removing the background image. I went into the Add-ons Manager to the User Scripts and Disabled the HeroSkin entry. Immediately my eyes were assaulted with the new background image. I quickly Enabled the HeroSkin entry again.

What browser are you using? What version of the browser? Is it the most recent version of ABP?
