I would agree if something was broke, but since nothing was broke, nothing needed fixing
[/ QUOTE ]
You are either being disingenuous or else are very clueless. There was a massive exploit there, and I'm really glad it's fixed now.
[/ QUOTE ]
I know exactly how it worked, and in my opinion nothing was wrong.
[/ QUOTE ]
In the Devs outlook, it was broken, so they fixed it. The exploit people were using was not what was intended by the Devs, and they have said as much. That is why it is called an exploit.
To the Devs, broken means "not working as intended". If they intended for people to have an "Instant 50", they'd put a button in the Character Creation screens with something like "Start this character at level 50".
Whether your opinion agrees with the game designers opinion or not is a moot point.
I'd quote my Dad's comment on opinions, but I don't want this to be interpreted as an attack on another poster because that is not my intent. I like my forum and game accounts and prefer keeping them active instead of banned. -

I'm confused by this statement:
"Just the other day, I was playing a low level Warshade and used the Combat Attribute window to help me decide how to slot Dark Nova."
I was on my Peacebringer just now, opened the Combat Attributes Window, but when I went to the Enhancement Screen and keyed over powers, the Attribute window goes away.
If I have the Window up and I click over Glinting Eye, it doesn't tell me anything about Glinting Eye?
???

I'm not going to try to read pohsyb's mind on what he meant by that, but I think I may be able to make an educated guess as to how it would work. The following is all conjecture on my part, but I think it may be close.
Conjecture:
I'm playing along on my warshade monitoring several attributes. I see some areas that I'm a bit weak in, and Dark Nova could help those areas with some slotting of H enhancements or A enhancements. I know that H enhancement provides roughly Y increase of that attribute, so I can slot # H enhancements to give me #Y increase to that attribute. Likewise, I know that P enhancement provides roughly B increase of that attribute, so I can slot # P enhancements to give me #B increase to that attribute I also see that Dark Nova will take S enhancement and O enhancement, but the attribute window shows me I'm already at or near the cap on those, so I'll not slot S or O in Dark Nova and use the slots to enhance what really needs enhancing instead of wasting slots with something that won't help much at all. Previously, I had to do a lot of research and digging, then a lot of math on my own or using a planner, but now I can see the needed information on the screen in front of me.
End Conjecture.
I think this may be close to what pohsyb's comment meant, but only the man himself could say for certain.
All in all, especially knowing that there is more to come in the "Real Numbers" area, I must say POHSYB ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
Of course, some of us already knew that, and are glad to see that more players will learn how truly Awesome pohsyb is.
Now. Back in the box.
I still think pohsyb should be allowed occaisionally to bring a Jump Bot into Talos for giggles.

Not to nitpick, but did anyone else notice that in the Giant Monster article, they say they are speaking to D. Perez (and all of the answers use the initials DP) but in the first question they refer to the interviewee as Dr. Rogers?
Everything else seemed to be of the normal fare for the Scoop staff. -

What's up with your name being spelled wrong on your avatar?
[/ QUOTE ]
That was due to a goof on his name-badge at the Meet N Greet. They spelled his real name wrong by leaving off a T at the end of Bennett and spelled pohsyb as pohsby (hence, the spelling in the avatar). Flash doesn't do well on a plastic cover over a name badge, but you can see almost all of the the names, and pohsyb's corrections and his notation at the bottom.
Here is the post with Red Gren's picture links. The avatar is fully explained with these pictures, and of course knowing the "get back in the box" joke from Beta. -

Does this move mean Pohsyb gets a new Box?

Hopefully, it will also be a bit bigger than his last box.

Just FYI, while it's a help, the City Vault isn't the best way to check if a name is available on a server as characters who haven't been active in over 90 days won't show.
The check name feature at character select is a much better way to check names.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very true. I just meant a cursory check. Something not showing up in the Vault doesn't mean it's not taken, but it's a good first step if you're on a computer that doesn't have the game installed.
Then again, outside of the work environment, why would anyone want to use a computer that doesn't have the game installed?
[/ QUOTE ]
I can think of several computers I go to that don't have the game installed. I'm a computer tech, so I'm often at people's houses, and sometimes will get to discussing the game. Or at a friend or family members house and either talking about the game or trying to get them into the game. Being able to show them the City Vault and some of my characters or other players in the game can only be a good thing. How many people do you know that have gotten started playing the game just from seeing the Costume Creator screens at a friends house? I know of a few. This would just expand that even more.
You reiterated the point I was trying to get at earlier about a quick-n-dirty cursory check on a name. It doesn't substitute for the Check Name feature in the game, but it does give you a bit of an idea if a name might be available.
EDIT: As I've said earlier, I can play the game from work, but can't get to the website due to our filters, except for the forums. Once the City Vault goes live, I may have to petition at work to have those pages unblocked. It took me a while, but I finally got them to unblock the forums and leave them unblocked for me. -
Except, as LH pointed out, characters that have been offline for 90 days or more will not show up. That was the one piece I missed when I made my original comment. In many cases you'll be able to see if that name is in use, but not always in the case of the character that hasn't logged in for 90 days.

I had intended to say that it is a good way to check for a name when you are not at a computer that has the game installed. Sometime inspiration hits when you are around a computer with internet access but no CoF, such as at w*rk. Luckily for me, I can get to the game from w*rk but not to the website, and the game plays fairly well on my laptop. I have however convinced them to unblock the forums for me.
Sorry LH, I goofed that one up. -

So from the NCSoft Q&A all character names, server location and costumes are displayed via the vault regardless of the in-game settings?
[ QUOTE ]
. As noted back on the 20th of November, "you will have the option of hiding your Statistics, Powers, Badges, and Friends list from inclusion on the public web page." You'll have to live with knowing your character's name, image, level, server, archetype, and origin are searchable via the Vault
[/ QUOTE ]
[/ QUOTE ]
I felt a bit sorry for Jesse (Ghost Falcon) during the Q&A. He was showing off the City Vault by bringing up names he knew and doing some searches. He typed in Texas Justice, scrolled over to make sure he was getting the one from Justice then clicked the name. Up pops a new page with my name. I don't recall if my AT or Server were listed, and I was in a holding pattern at the time with no SG, but there was no other data available. I had set the options to not show anything on the web for this character for testing purposes, and it worked out as a nice surprise test at the event. I felt bad so went up and gave him Eyes of Texas as a name, and you can see in one of the Massively.com pictures a shot of her powers as he hovered over them showing the tooltips that come up.
I wouldn't mind having the option to hide everything from the webpage, but there is no real need for it that I can see. As others mentioned, this is a good way to do a check online to see if a name is available or if you are trying to remember the exact spelling of a person you teamed with or a friends name and what server they are on. Had this been available at launch, more than 1 SG wouldn't have had to move servers because several people they convinced to play the game couldn't remember the server name and picked what they thought was right.
I must remember to change my options next time I'm on, as I have no problems with people seeing my information, I just haven't had a chance.
Jesse, Ghost Falcon, I'm sorry man, but it did show off that feature during the Meet N Greet. -

Is this Vince D'Amelio?
Vince is a CoH Cryptic Developer. I didn't know he came over to NCSoft (or is he attending as a fan of the game who happens to be Cryptic employee?).
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, it is.

Vince is an NCsoft employee, he dwells among the others in the programming temple of DOOOOOOM!

Zomg! The entire dev team was there and no one got a complete list of names with pics!! (At least, of those that would give permission.) Bah! None of you deserved to be there!!
<pouts looking at an incomplete dev tracker spreadsheet>
(BTW, before anyone asks, I'm pretty sure the 'plus one' is Hero 2, Hero 1's newborn son.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I believe the plus one is in reference to the great and mighty pohsyb.
I could be wrong however. It's happened before and I'm sure it will happen again.
And for whoever asked before, yes, Azrhiaz is a very foxy lady. Almost enough to make me want to test out the PvP waters. Almost.

You know Neutra, we have enough tech savvy people that this may just work!
[/ QUOTE ]
Tech savvy? In this group? Where?
As for me, 1.5 miles is too far to drive for all the "other" get-togethers that will likely be occuring, at least if Austin wsa any indication. I was at a hotel just a mile away in Austin, and it really put a crimp on my joining the festivities. I did better than some I won't mention at showing up for morning things, and they were staying at one of the hotels behind the D&B.
Although, we did have Moggie, Glow Plug, MissInformed, infallible, and other Austin locals arranging things. Let's see if the valley residents can match them.
-
My flight is scheduled to arrive shortly before 2pm. I'm not sure what time Neutra is getting in, but I'm supposed to pick him up at the airport. Depending on how the flights are and how Neutra feels about it, we may swing by the offices of the company I used to work for so I can say "Howdy" to some of the folks I worked in Colorado with. Otherwise, I'm up for grabbing something before the event and am generally up for most anything except Korean BBQ. If any plans get finalized, I'd bypass the trip to see former co-workers if needed.
Heck, I'd even be up to driving to Mountain View to check out the new NCSoft NorCal digs. Maybe we can get Ex to give us a tour before the event. -
Well, my ISP problems kept me from getting online last night and seeing this, so, they were out of Kings when I called. I'm staying at the Marriot like Manoa, Neutra, and so many others. I did the "staying at a place further away from everyone else" in Austin and didn't care for it much.
Since they were out of the Kings at the group rate, I had to book a Double, so I'll at least have plenty of room to spread out. As with Neutra, I'm not checking out until the 2nd, so I've got two different rates for the two nights. Unlike Neutra, the lady that booked my rooms didn't offer me any discount for the second night, which would have been really nice since I couldn't get the size room I wanted. Oh well, guess Neutra just has a way with the men.
I "could" have booked a King for both nights for 99 a night, which works out to the same total price of the Double at the NC Soft rate and the second night at regular rate, but it might have been farther away from the rest of you, so I just stuck with the group. Rather odd since I'm not really into the whole "teaming" thing, but ah well. Maybe someone that is only coming for the night of the event will want to share the cost of the room and use the other bed. If I'm lucky, they'll be female.
I am not a lucky person by any stretch of the imagination. -

Also, I don't know that this is remotely as bad an occurrence as the one you mention. We're keeping most of the same game designers that we had, and it's been said they'll have a fair amount of autonomy.
<shrug> Here's hoping anyway.

I think that would actually be King Colonel England now.
Maybe you had to talk to him at the Meet N Greet in Austin to get that one. -

As for Teh Boyfriend ..... wasn't he supposed to at least type Hi in here for us? Geeze, if I hadn't met him I'd think he was a figment of someones imagination to keep from being hit on by all us D.O.M.

[ QUOTE ]
Actually, it's Somber Traveler.

[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, there I go again, spelling words correctly.
And like Manoa, I'd like to thank those that offered the rides to all of us so that we could meet in a convenient location and ride together to keep those not as familiar with Austin from having to navigate some of the confusing paths we took.
And at least I found out that it appears to be the Whiskey and Bourbon that are the causes of my problems with drinking. It was nice to get a bit tanked and not have any kidney pain.
I still liked the taste of that Lethal Weapon. Losing the ability to form a word for 10 seconds wasn't so good, but at times I need to be forced to shut up.
-
Did Neutra ever recover from that Lethal Weapon shooter I bought him? He barely said 2 words to me after that.
And at least you stayed in SK range most of the night.

The Justice Server Group Photo. Can't remember who all was in it.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is:
Front: Mad_Malkavian
Middle: Neutra, Manoa's boyfriend (He doesn't post and I can't remember his character's name), Manoa, Ashley, Armless Dan
Back Row: Texas Justice, DiscoChild
[/ QUOTE ]
Teh Boyfriend is also known as Somber Traveller. It's a shame Super Goober wasn't in the shot with us. And for those that don't recognize Mad Malkavian as being from Justice, he's from Virtue but we let him RP as being from Justice since Rowr wouldn't.
And that's my shoulder in the left side of the frame in the shot of The Defuser and Ex Libris.
I'd like to offer special thanks to MissInformed and Moggie and her family for helping wrangle our Friday night, Saturday Morning, and Saturday Night After get-togethers. And of course, MissInformed for the Sunday brunch arrangement. I'm a bit glad the first place we tried this morning was full, since it gave us a chance to switch to Rudy's and have The Worst BBQ in Texas. And no, I'm not being rude, that is actually their slogan.
I had a great time this weekend, and Justice and Virtue definitely know how to represent and party. Sorry I can't remember names of all the Virtue folks that were joining us on the meals and drinking, but I had fun hanging with you all. I'm not sure what his forum name is, but Jonathan came through for me big time by printing out my registration acknowledgement that I somehow left at home and bringing it to Dave & Buster's for me.
One last special thanks to Moggie's daughter for putting up with us this weekend and not complaining about how much sleep she was losing. Late nights, early mornings, and more late nights had to have tired her out quite a bit, as well as putting up with some of us old folks. At least she and I had something in common in that we are both around Middle School students all day long. Get some rest, you earned it.
Edit: MissInformed is in the shot, she's just hiding behind Manoa. I'd post one of the pics I took of Missy, but she'd hunt me down and do unspeakable things to me if I were to be that stupid. -
[ QUOTE ]
*sigh* Too bad I have to leave for work in ten minutes. If anyone's still up for doing something before or after the meetup tomorrow, though, I'm still up for it (off work until Wednesday night so losing sleep then won't be a problem for me).

Ok, how's this for Friday night then?
Meet at the Dave & Busters flag pole at 7:30pm and figure out how many cars we'll have so we can go eat/pub crawl?
Sound ok?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds good to me. I've arrived and checked into my hotel, and I'm already wishing I'd gone ahead and ponied up for the higher priced room next to D&B's. This place sucks.
I'm gonna grab a shower and then check back here to see if any updates are ready. I may go find a steak house first to get a decent meal, but I'll play that by ear.
Manoa and Neutra have my cell number, as does MissInformed (unless she had to delete the D.O.M. to make room for someone interesting).
-
I'm staying at the EconoLodge just down 183 from DnB, and wouldn't mind getting in on the carpooling. Heck, I can even play DD for some of my fellow forum-goers since the old body doesn't like it anymore when I ingest alcohol. I miss my buddy Jack at times like these.
Since I'm not far from where the rest of you are staying, I'd even be willing to taxi or drive to the closer hotels to meet you there and then leave as a group. Unfortunately, I rented a fairly small car or I'd volunteer it for carpooling duty. Maybe the local Enterprise will have to upsize me for free, since they are often out of the smaller cars, and I can wind up providing the car if that occurs.
I'll likely stop at a good steakhouse early in the evening and get a meal, just haven't decided where I really want to eat. MissInformed has my cell number if she hasn't erased it from her phone, and I'll PM Neutra and Manoa to let them have it as well.
If enough people from my server hit the same place, I can already see the headlines in the Saturday Austin American Statesman "Justice Invades 6th Street, Insanity Follows".
